Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
Ninja_Meh replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
why not just go play breaking point then??? these infected ARE NOT what we will end up with, they are clearly testing different mechanics using the old system to see the reaction from the creche and then decide whether or not those mechanics will work well with the newly coded ai... why cant people see that what they are doing is finding out how much crying gets done when the zombies we currently have slightly resemble the zombies we (hopefully) will end up with soon. it beggars beleif that peoples idea of feedback is just say zombies broken fix now cant beleive not fixed blah blah, they know all that, personally for me i think the fact they hear you when your sprinting behind them around 100-150 metres or so is perfectly legit, u always see the hyper alertness of the infected/undead in these settings, its more the issues with being lay down in the grass behind them at similair distances that cause the frustration for me and many i play with, but we know that this is temporary so hence do not moan about these things -

In terms of getting hyped, your a good 6 mopnths away from that i reckon, these zeds are still placeholder mechanics working from a lot of the old code from the mod zeds, so still from a clunky system that does n ot deal with melee all that well. I loved that you made reference to the 1.7.7 fiasco, i was in the testing group and skype chat with the devs that were working on the new updates, and how we all laughed that when this patch was released, the world of interwhebs would be filled with the gracious tears of crappy players and bandits who would die by zeds all the time. we tested everything over and over till literally you could sneak walk BACKWARDS or sideways but never forwards directly (your footsteps make a slight higher noise level than sidestep and back peddle) right up behind a zed and kill it easily in which ever method you chose, but then if you alerted a single zed, as it aggroed its screams would be as if a players sprint noise and attract more, and more and .... well more and the reason they would chase you so ferociously was because they would run to the last alert spot (where they last saw you or where the last noise you made was) and the n do a line of sight and sound check, if you lay out of sight and didnt move after turning a corner, they would wander off after 5 seconds or so AND WE WERE RIGHT EEEEEEVERYbody moaned, and razor AND dean hall were happy about it, because they wanted that level of shit ur pantsness for players from zed aggro. if you liked that patch maybe we should team up sometime lol u seem legit dayz OG to me Your the kind of player that converts a friendly like myself into a merciless hunter type. if anything the 1.6 million odd people who played the mod i would say around 4/5ths wanted the mod to get harder and more like it is now, and also wanted the game to be more so. if i dont speak for you thats great, dont let me find you in game though, as i will just aggro zeds all over your ass and then come beat you with a bat relentlessly once your dead till i get bored :) ;) oh and :P -

i really hope they just make the zeds so unbeleivably buggy and alarming that they literally scare off the call of duty fan boys hell bent on ruining this game :) they shud stay in confined maps of small spaces where they should shoot blindly as they run round each corner (just in case something/one else is round there). this game is amaze balls and i have high hopes for where it will be in 1 or 2 years time :) -

for me post length is no issue, unless its crying, no one in these forums that had an account pre stand alone likes cry babies. the fact we are talking in length about what we see as important to the game or what is wrong with any current systems in place makes these posts legit as hell yeahs -

Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)

most if not all of my points ARE constructive on this issue. I just have an abrasive attitude which makes me seem like im just tryna slap people down, im not. but in reality if this game is to be what was promised to us since the last few years of playing the mod, what im saying is just a reflection of how the majority of the community feel about this game. After having just played the game again for another hour or two i can safely say the zombies as they are are not a huge threat, the issue seems to be which server i am on. some servers the zeds desync of themselves was enough to mean i would get hit or killed by them (because they were not where my client displayed them but in fact probably behind me or something) and also i had an instance of killing two zeds with single and double blows from a baseball bat, the respawn mec hanic kicked in and two zeds spawned out behind a tree or bush and did not head for my location at all. but then some invisible zed seemed to enjoy trolling me while i bandaged and killed me without jhesitation. To summarize constructively, the zombies and their mechanics as they are, are definitely not perfect, but i think are a good enough challenge at this stage in development to make people think before they kill another player or zombie with a loud firearm (which is the intended aim i beleive, as rocket said the whole team are trying to find a way to pull the new players lured to the game away from the COD BF shoot everything that moves mentality) as stated a number of times previously, these zombies are NOT the zombie code that will make it into the game and there is a seperate team from Bohemia working on creating functioning zeds from the ground up code wise (and presumably some extra graphics in there too) The main issue i think that causes so much whining about the zeds in the first place is the desync from certain servers and ping issues etc, causing the already imperfect zed behavior to be erratic at best. Namely the awareness mechanic, seems from server to server to be hugely different, which suggests that what causes zeds to seem to notice you from "2.5KM" away (please that literally has never happened to anyone without an over active imaginatiuon) is because actually you ran past a zed, but on your screen the zed was further away (because of server client lag etc. this is what needs fixing next, and im pretty sure is being worked on vbery hard by a group of people who know this is the issue. -

all this crying about bamies having it hard and so on, ther point of the game is you sneak about, head north, get geared up and the game becomes "easier" in the sense you get eventually armed as a reward for barely making it out of the coast alive, at which point the only real threat becomes the pve aspect of the game and other players who didnt do stupid things like try to gear up in elektro or cherno. the respawn mechanic IS PLACEHOLDER, and i think it is in PLAC E to help people get used to the fact that soon, when the new zombie system (which is being worked on from scratch to address all the issues of clipping and so on) is in place, zombies are gonna fuck u hard if you decide to use your gun as opposed to axing or fighting them with other melee/bare fists. the reason so many people bought arma 2 for this mod was because it was so much harder and a lot more fun and original than your usual multiplayer shooter games, plus a lot of people love the survival horror aspe ct of it. PLAYERS ARE DEFINITELY NOT intended to be the most dangerous part of the game, they are however the most unpredictable aspect and this is what makes the game. in my opinion. if people think this game should not be about zombie survival and that it should be less realistic, please do give me your steam account and i will pass it on to someone who SHOULD be playing dayz with me instead of you winding up on the shit end of my axe like a cry baby. -
im in :) KAFU AFA-GO!!! get me some pants :) i r definitely not an uber douche, just alittle bit douchey, mainly to bandits or annoying people so i think its justified

I know full well that in a setting of "reality" sense, i would be VERY unlikely top EVER find a fully automatic assault rifle lying around anywhere in towns and so on, maybe large cities in police stations but even then they would be kept behind locked doors a plenty and so on so very difficult to access, and i know that if i was to shoot at any point a gun that makes the kind of noise these do i would expect to be dead within around 5-10 minutes, if every one who is infected is looking for fresh brains and noise is a main attraction for them, these zeds would be literally everywhere, and i think id be happier with an axe to take on zeds and a gun for the sole purposes of use to confront other people not infected. i think this mechanic is very good and really people just need to learn to adapt to the game, instead of say it would be better if it wasnt so hard... the whole point of the game is to survive, in a place where you should not be able to easily. i dunno call me old fashioned but games only ever kept my attention when i struggled to win at them, in the last 10 years computer games have nose dived into gratuitous shoot em/ beat em ups and all good franchises have been raped of any sembelance of respectability by turning them into "action adventure" series resident evil for example, clunky controls slow as shit zombies huge horrible boss fights with next to no sign of how to beat them and crappy weaponry till almost the end of the game, then check resi 6, start with assault rifles and just run round blotting everything that moves with it,,,, way to ruin a great game concept. i hope the zombies get even harder and more frustrating, as then i can utilise my super sneaky playstyle to camp out near zombies and use them to locate and hunt(bandits) or aid other survivors. just again my opinion -

if you hit them with melee, when they respawn they do not aggro to the last place they heard gunfire when respawning, the way i see it is the respawning is a way to reproduce the effect of having a lot of zed numbers which you cant see, but once you alert them with gunfire they would obviously run to you in swarms in a real life situation. as it is they cannot implement hordes of zeds or large numbers across the map server side because of the hugs lag and sync issues it will cause. until they figure a way to achieve this i think this is a good system to ready you for a more final mechanic. point of interest, zombies hardly ever kill me, like hardly ever. so i presume it is peoples playstyles that is getting them bummed by zeds as i just axe them fuggahs and grabs my loots -
Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)

zombies cause me no issues, unless due to lag/desync, people complaining about respawn are clearly sprinting around on loud surfaces shooting guns ablaze like they were in cod zombies mode. in dayz shooting your gun is a BIG no no unless to defend yourself from other players (bandits namely) also using direct chat is another key thing some people dont seem to grasp, u shout in game, zombies hear this, they run to you, you sprint away cos your scared, alerting yet more zeds in vicinity, hmmmmm sounds remarkably like some of my favourite george romero films.... stage 1 sneak a bit more and be observant stage 2 find axe asap stage 3 only carry dual guns if your man enough to deal with zombie flood after (foolishly) shooting at one stage 3 use axe on zombie noggins from behind stage 4 DO NOT RUN AWAY stage 5 do not complain because you are not used to this games core aspect yet stage 6 accept that you paid very little money to be involved in an alpha, where many changes will occur stage 7 eat beans and drink pop stage 8 MAN UP -
the other alternative would be to have a development roadmap site specifically for the release of anything dayz updates orientated, and then have the forums as a space for testers (players if some prefer to be called that but at this stage in the game every player SHOULD consider themself as a tester not a player) the whole reason its gotten to this suggestion of having seperated threads and locked changelog posts is because it would seem that people do not consider anyone else when posting mindless twattle on important update information threads. Clearly they left the changelog posts unlocked under the impression that people playing dayz as it is, READ THE BLURB people are advised game is not finished and that as such people should NOT BUY THE GAME yet lol. shows that a lot of people do not read anymore before buying stuff. i hope somehow between the supportive test base and the development teams something can be come up with to divert this situation. i dont want this game to go down the pan because a load of lemons dont understand what they bought in the early access section on steam with dayz.....
-
ok so again every one is in agreement thatthe ai pathing of arma 2 and the zombies using that system in dayz do not work well, this is being addressedi beleive and from what i know, the zed thing will always be at best buggy.as for bullet proof zeds the only zeds who can take more than a single headshot off of me is the pilots of heli crashes. it sounds to me like a lotof people expect the game to accomadate their playstyle, but it simply does not accomodate any playstyle other than damage limitation and risk evasion.
-
personally i do not see what all the fuss is about with the infection,i actually far prefer it being that much of a kick in the balls when u do get infected, my advice to you all is gethunting around stary novy and that central map space forheli crashes, i have a tent with 12 antis in about 8 of which came from two crashed helis.

with no back knowledge of code in any way really, im just stabbing in the dark here, but is the random infection line allowing for the infection to have a random chance of catching EVEN if your blood is high, if so could you not just trim that variable so the random risk off of any individual hit is just ever so slightly less, and maybe make it like a 1 in a 1000 chance if your blood is higher than 10,000?
-
wow so thats nice at least there are TWO super rare items to keep your eyes peeled for now XD

as one of the people who was tesing this patch out and giving feedback, i really dont see why people sare getting infected so quickly, 1 your obviously rushing yourself if your getting aggrod a lot now, the ranges for me have been for the most part FINE, i can literally sneak around zombies with ease, have you ever found a smoke grenade??? ever had one in a place where players are trying to kill you, why not say hmmm, throw it in the enemies general direction then sneak off and get th fk outta there or track the person as they lose a train of unforgiving zeds and kill them. as for antis i played this build this morning for like 3 hours, in one server in cherno or elektro alone, i found a total of 4 anti biotics, by which point id already found a hunting knife and machete and filled my bag and invent with beef and chicken just in case i got ill, to top it off i got bandited for surprise surprise tryna be a good guy player. if you wanna survive in this game then get out of the south, anyone complaining of low loot is looting wrong, just run through buildings and dont pile anything, just hit each building grab the goodies and move on to next town or something and come back, so bored of reading these complaint threads when the mod has just taken a huge leap in the best direction it could, actually been teaming with randoms i meet more now than i ever thought would be possible. i cant beleive razors gonna waste time "fixing" other peoples sloppy playing styles for them by making a by definition hard game easier for you all, i personally would rather he was putting out test builds with crafting in and working on any of the minor bugs in .7.7 as and when he can be bothered/ finds the time. the reward for getting even a loaded pistol now is in good contrast to the games settings, if it were a zed apocalypse, you really think your gonna hit a hospital in a city and find any kind of useful kit, well heres news for you buddy it has already been looted by every other fk bean. i understand ur frustrations with some of the new mechanics but tbh you all can find a knife and axe so you can all hun enough meat to keep u alive long enough to find antis, if i can do it, as a fairly mediocre dayz player, anyone can. FACT
-
Back of pickup truck wrecks you find around town, in between bits of corrugated iron leaning on small non enterables, all non enterable houses seem to have loot spawns around them, dog kennels, rubble piles all sorts of new places. personally i think its going down the right path now, forcing players to look for stuff and also to not just loot cycle near their camp in one area etc. my main gripe now is the lag on zombie attacks, seems like your being hit when they are miles behind you, after you have run straight by them, not sure what the issue is causing it but it could be either connection, server quality, arma bug or dayzcode
-
canned food has declined, you can always hunt north fields of the map for the abundant animals around and dip in and out to hospitals and nearby spawns for antis, simple really. will agree zeds seem to have a lot of lag when attacking so your already past them but then the attack registers. this is a lag issue and maybe a coding issue also, will see if i can help to get it fixed as is also upsetting me a little too lol
-
REAL bugs i have encountered On occasion tools such as hatchets or crowbars etc are unable to be picked up (no way to replicate seems random) sight meter reading higher if you go from the gravel on side of a road to the actual road (you gain huge visiibility by this and is totally not realistic, visibility should only be dependent on light and player stance (ie crouched or standing or prone) imho Some occasional random zed behaviour, probably arma related anyway as opposed to dayz coding issues. will update and edit as i find more things
