    New Player

Whitelisting is just a way for people to keep their servers secure. Ususally there is an application process, and then your credentials are added to a list which the server checks when connections are made. If you're not on the list, you're not getting on the server.

    Killed by Zombies???

I was killed by a zombie just last week. I'll tell my story: I was casually walking up to the Balota Airfield, carefully listening for zeds, getting ready to go around the corner into a hangar. THEN the sounds of an aggro'd zombie pops into my headphones, rushes only a step and begins slapping me. Admittedly, I was a little startled, and I began to unload my pistol. I was never fully aware that a zed could just knock you out, And I'm fairly sure I was at full health, but it made cinimatic sense for my character to have a fright and fire his weapon wildly and then black out. [Here's some TL;DR text!] The fun part was getting back to my body... I spawned in Solichniy. It's 1 AM when this happens and I'm tired, but I'm not letting my hard earned kit get away that easily. I run for maybe a half hour making sure to keep my left shoulder towards the ocean, only ever stopping to get a can of soda. I make it to Cherno and it's getting dark. Luckily I find a body well geared, but I spend only a few seconds taking an AK and some coke and beans: I've got my priorities here. The sun is setting quickly. On the other side of the city, west side near the gas station, I spot a player on the road. Mind you, I'm up in the hills and trees trying not to get spotted. He's on his way to the airfield. Bad news for me... Mild panic sets in and I contemplate killing this man. But I don't waste a single bullet, I turn and run. Then I finally make it to the hangars, and it's dark now, the sun has fully set. I begin making my way up the side of the hangar when I hear an odd sound: Footsteps. Player footsteps. Then an aggro'd zed! I immediatly freeze and before I know it two zombies run past me and into the opposite hangar. I see a flash light flick on and wave around towards the zombies, then the gun fires. My only chance! I run at my body and frantically start swaping gear. Mission success, and I haul ass out of there. I don't think he ever knew I was there, cause when I full on sprinted out of there I could see the player's light spinning around trying to find me.

  5. eidted... I'd imagine your interet provider or network card would be the biggest factors for sorting out desync issues

    How do I even backpacks?

lol. As other have said, open your Inventory (ususally with the G key) and double click your backpack (my preferred method). Nothing will really change, but you'll have two numbers now above the items list on the left sepcifing Available and Maximum space. Your default backpack will say (8/8) above the items list when you open it, and the first number will decrease respectively as you add items into your backpack. When your backpack is open you'll move items to and from it just like you would when looting a pile.

this is funny =B I'm pretty sure people just register colors differently? when I was a kid I had a cousin try to tell me Johnny Bravo's hair was green.

New to DayZ, What to do? [The Newbie Experience]

As a fellow newbie, I'll tell you to throw caution to the wind. Yes! Do it! Forget your inhibitions and run! Get used to holding shift and quickly double tapping W to get away. Crawling is fine and dandy, and you'll need to do it at some point, but you need to make progress! Press X and run! You're going to get nowhere fast by crawling everywhere so keep your head down and keep moving. Use your NumPad: you can take quick glances behind you with 1 and 3. I know, I know, I told you to run, but take it in stages too. Make it to cover then rest for a few seconds. If you need to shoot, you need to shoot accuratly, and nothing is worse than bouncing ironsights. Plus, if you're breathing heavy you may not be able to hear zeds or players around you. Low Pop Servers are nice for newbs. Join servers with a relatively low amount of players already on. This seems like a wierd thing to do, and it took me a while to finally get over the fact that there may be more of a chance of hackers on these servers, but you don't have to stress about hostile players as much either. Hit the greocery stores and get yourself a pair of binoculars and a nice supply of food/drink, you'll probably find a better backpack too. Cities usually spawn a plethora of .45 acp ammo, and the M1911 is a decent sidearm. You should be afraid of the sound of flies, but not afraid to loot the body. This sounds counter-intuitive, I know, but more often than not the deceased have something you want. Proceed with caution when looting a body, and be quick about it. If you think there might be something left you want, leave and sort out your inventory, then decide if it's really worth risking the time and trek back. This person obviously fell to SOMETHING, so you don't want to stick around too long to find out what. I dunno how much that helps, but I can tell you that is how I acquired my Mk 40 Mod 0, M40A3, and coyote backpack. and I still have yet to fire either!

    Zombie killing Incentive

I'm fine with a can of beans found on a downed zombie. That's all the incentive I need.
