Why reduce spawn gear if you simultaneously buff spawns? That makes no sense, 5mins later the guy would be back in cherno with guns blazing. Food is bugged, dont mind that, it'll be fixed. Weapons are already in mad abundance and their spawns should be seriously nerfed. Zombies are easy to avoid if you sneak, so sneak. Mostly empty look makes sense as well, it's not like you'd be the first there in reality. I got the feeling that the idea of this patch was to slow the game down and make it harder. Your suggestion would totally un-do that. Am not saying this works perfectly but it's a step in the right direction.

No, you need a weapon to kill them. Then use knife to cut meat from them, hatchet to hack some firewood and matches to make fireplace. Then ignite fireplace and cook meat on it.

Interesting idea, I'd be willing to try that out. Being established on a server I also feel the death is just a minor nuisance when I can just run to my camp and re-equip myself. I know the way there even without a compass by now so it's really no trouble at all. Also, I play mainly with a friend so am not just some ignorant solo'er who has nothing to lose. This system would really add some dread back to death and that way add some great depth. I can always tell bud to switch to my new server so it wouldn't completely ruin that aspect either.

It's apparently bugged, I haven't seen any food or drink either, only weapons and backpacks. I actually resorted to logging out before the icons were even turning reddish, that way they were always green when I returned to the game later. Food is not an issue when you can hunt, tools for that are in plenty, but staying hydrated is pretty much impossible at the moment. Just wait for another hotfix :D

Now more than ever, reduce weapon and ammo spawns
Heme (DayZ) replied to Imbalanxd's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
+1 definitely. Guns are way too common at the moment and it's only magnified by the lack of starting weapon. I found 2 weapons in the first house (the black one) I checked in my new life about 3mins to the game. Next building (supermarket) had 2 pistols, AKM and enfield. I was constantly stumbling into weapons and it became ridiculous very quickly. When I quit the session later I had literally seen dozens of weapons but not a single item of food and only one can of coke. Granted, the food/drink spawns are bugged but still, make weapons way rarer. -
-1 from here too. Originally when I heard that the gun was removed I was bit "meh, that sucks" but when I then died and respawned in the next-to-nothing gear it felt very refreshing. Spawned near Cherno and looted the whole place (every building) without aggroing a single zombie or being shot by another survivor. I think the current zombies have nice balance of avoidability and threat and without the gun-ho makarov maniacs roaming around there's much more depth to random encounters as well. Pick up junk and throw it somewhere to distract zeds who might spot you before sneaking past them. Prone, wait and inch yourself forward constantly minding your surroundings. It's easy to avoid zombies that way and since every house seems to have at least one weapon it's not hard to find a gun. My suggestion is to keep the start gear minimal and make weapons seriously more rare. I bet that would make most of the undesirable impatient player base quit and exponentially lift the enjoyability of the game. Sure sucks you can't just run around with guns blazing eh?
-
Weaponless guys would be "farmed" for that better stuff early on. Must be same grounds for both and I've greatly enjoyed my new life with no gun. With makarov I can just run thru the nearest town and pop the zombies inside a house, without a weapon I have to actually put some thought into the game and every item found feels like a small victory.

Suggestions to Rocket from a REAL HC player; Reactions to latest patch
Heme (DayZ) replied to allbusiness's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I agree with your general ideas, reduced sight range and enhanced hearing range are both good ideas and I like the idea that letting off a round in city would bring every zombie within wide radius to investigate. That is indeed investigate, not homing in on you. Also sounds like going thru foliage and bushes makes sense but crouching/walking on hard surface lets off way too much sound already and there's no reason to enhance that. You can really move quietly, even upright, if you have to. -
You're installing it wrong, I got that error too first but it was just issue with my installation process. I recommend you download six updater ( http://dayzmod.com/su.php ) and let it do all the work.

So, I kind of like the disable chats - encourage dc-voip policy but I doubt I'm the only one feeling that 3rd party voips ruin it a bit. Granted, I'm not all too keen to start yelling to random survivors with my rally english, especially since I mainly play with a friend anyway and random peeps are more threat than potential. Still, I feel it'd greatly add to the atmosphere if we (we use battlelog for voip, great audio btw) had to take our external voip use into account as well, knowing it can be heard by other players and maybe zombies near us. It wouldn't completely erase the problem, as one can use another computer or such like for voip and disable mic on gaming one but I doubt most would arse (I wouldn't). Thoughts? (also sorry if such suggestion existed already, quick search returned no results)

Yes' date=' "should". As you see there's AS50 there and while there's no mention of the TWS there is BAF_AS50_TWS or something in the list taken from the code. There's no really official note on this or then I haven't seen it. I asked about the AS50 TWS in irc the moment I found it. Someone said that it's probably hacked, some other said it's legit but just very, very rare, someone said if it shows up in tent it's legit and all this usual stuff. These hacked weapon? - threads are so common that they alone justify an official, dev-made list of weapons currently in the game. Lists compiled by random community guys or forum mods are insightful but they lack the "this is the truth" - backbone the official list would have. Players are afraid to pick up good loot now, fearing it might be hacked and lead to them being banned for playing the game. It really hurts the joy of actually finding good stuff, [b']especially since we can't just alt-tab to forums and check an official list for reference.

I found a camp with (several) such weapons almost 2 weeks ago and me and bud have been carrying them since that. It felt a bit fishy but people in irc thought it'd be legit and it's listed in the list of weapons taken directly from the code. We obviously wouldn't like to ditch such a weapon "just in case" and lacking formal list of accepted weapons (I mean really formal, made by a dev) there's no way to know if it's illegit. I was told that if it was indeed illegit weapon we should've been automatically banned when we logged out but that never happened. Could we seriously get some official list to prominent location here on the forums listing all the legit weapons so we wouldn't always have to worry about if the good stuff we stumbled upon is legit or not.

The flies/crows on very low humanity discussion
Heme (DayZ) replied to switch296's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well, since you already pulled the "unrealistic/in reality" - card I'll play it against you. You can't seriously think that banditry in reality would be only perks? There would be drawbacks to it as real world obviously isn't quite as simple as the game world. That's why I'd be in favor of some subtle minuses or even artificial punishments for bandits to simulate those. Oh, and before you folks go rage that carebear crap at me I might note that am bandit myself, simply because there's no reason not to and it's by far the safest way to play and best way to survive. No incentive for teamplay can fully remove that, some gradually worsening punishments might and if they're subtle and slow enough they would not nerf bandits much either. Maybe add alcohol or some other stuff the bandit starts needing to keep his conscience from bursting as his humanity decreases :p -
Yeah, my latest tents have been magically emptied as well. Placed new ones near old ones and routinely filled and saved them with random stuff. Came back the next day and the new ones were empty and old ones untouched so I can pretty safely exclude thieves. Happened to my 8 newest tents on different servers.

15 min of playing...over 2 hours of black misery
Heme (DayZ) replied to maleitch's topic in New Player Discussion
Ye you should never try to introduce new players to the game when it's night ingame. I did the same and spent couple hours trying to meet up with buddy and throwing flares around. That was before I realized ping doesn't really matter in dayz and started playing on servers in the US (I'm european and some US servers work better for me than most EU ones). Also it's almost hard to find server with night anymore, no matter what time I try to play. You just had seriously bad luck with servers it seems. -
A suggestion to stop rampant killing
Heme (DayZ) replied to Mystic5hadow's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yeah, mystic has a valid point. I'm new to DayZ and like the mod even with its alpha hicks well enough, but I have to say I didn't expect it to be such a deathmatch. Now I have nothing against bandits as a concept, it's realistic and adds one kind of depth..BUT I think the treshold to become a bandit is too low and that leads to these "rampant playerkillers" who kill for fun and wont even bother looting your corpse. Most of the survivors I have met in the game have either shot me or tried to, and since it's mostly one-shot-kills kind of game am usually dead before I realize am being shot at. It's become a lot worse since the bandit skin was removed and I've started to consider shooting everyone on sight just in case. This snowball can only grow bigger and roll faster and eventually it's plain f4a DM between players and zombies and I doubt that's what most of us would want to see. There should be some consequence to excess killing and maybe even some smaller ones for long-term banditry. Things are way slower irl as we all know and notorious bandits would develop certain infamy, survivors would share their intel on him and his looks and stuff and this would make it harder for him to keep on his business. Sadly, with ppl popping in and out, average lifetime being like 30mins and there being whole 3 different skins (or something like that) in the game it makes it too easy for bandits to take ppl by surprise. Again, it's nice to have bandits, they add some thrill and nervecracking to the game but too much is too much as most would likely agree. edit: Also the nasty little point I forgot to make, playing bandit is so much easier than playing survivor. Maybe that's exactly why there's such an abundance on the bandit front. It's easy to shoot the guy while he's trying to evaluate you, it's easy to snipe someone from a mile away for no reason. I kind of gotta wonder what's the thrill IN being a bandit, especially now that there's no skin to mark you as one?
