  2. An interesting idea, but adding voice commands takes away from the idea that it's really 'you' in the apocalypse. What I think they should do is change it so people can have a chance at more interaction before KoS, therefore allowing thinks like robbery to be possible (without having them as an 'official' feature). Oh, and if you kill someone that you're 'robbing', it should still be murder. It would be completely ridiculous if people would just go around robbing defenseless or off-guard people and shooting them. It would make more sense for killing someone you're robbing to have an increased reduction in humanity (Robbing them and making them feel like they will at least live, and then killing them.).

    Just a simple poll regarding gore.

    The bleeding system right now could use improvement. If you're bleeding out, you should leave a trail of blood around. Also, circumstantial things like decapitation could possibly happen (Such as hitting someone in the head with a hatchet blade), but I don't think it should go over the top like a lot of games do.

    Tasers: Meh. Could be a potentially cool weapon but they wouldn't be useful after they are shot off and could only be used on one person. Tranquilizer Gun: Sounds like an interesting concept, but these aren't very common at all (even in the civilian world). The only agencies that use these are wildlife administrations and possibly law enforcement in case they have to deal with the same situation. Tranquilizers, while they can be used against humans, generally aren't because of different potency of chemicals in the gun. For example; shooting someone with a tranquilizer meant for a giant lion or an angry bull is going to have a chance of actually killing the person you shot at. Besides that, it is not a practical gun at all (Even less so than the crossbow); tainted meat, does not work against zombies, slow and low ammunition, not common. It's like the crossbow, if you really found it you wouldn't take it unless you had absolutely nothing else available. Pepper Spray; Forcing someone to drop their weapon seems like this is more of a trolling weapon than ever. Besides that, the person you're after must be a really bad shot if you get within attack range. Pepper spray also runs out really quickly, and the worst part is that once the effects wear off, you still have a guy chasing after you. Tear Gas: I'd have to go against this, simply because it's such a rare thing to be used outside of quelling riots and small countries like Chernarus would have little-to-none.

    I know, what I meant was that most of the construction and architecture is from that time period. I was basically saying that I would like a few newer buildings put in but also taller ones reminiscent of the style of Chernarus. Remember that not everywhere is always using the most modern things :P (North Korea still uses MIG-17s).

    Besides that, in Penumbra/Amnesia, you don't have access to high powered winchesters and fully automatic assault rifles.

  10. They should just make DayZ use it's own Sound Driver and block out other ones while the exe is open so you can't use the other ones :P.

    Theoretically, that's a good idea. The problem is; mounting a scope that is not designed specifically for a specific type or group of weapons can result in inaccuracy and would really be hard to shoot realistically. Also, Binoculars usually don't have any aiming support on them :P
  12. Not to de-rail the thread, but if the ONLY scope was a CZ-550, I feel it would actually ruin the intensity even more. Of course, I'm all for removing the current anti-materiel rifles (AS-50 and M107 as well as the DMR, which isn't in service any more.) and they should probably make the SVD Camo just a regular SVD. However, the CZ-550 shouldn't be the ONLY one, it is really suspenseful knowing that you could be watched from a hill by a sniper. It ruins the point if the only thing the guy has is a slow ass hunting rifle.

    [SA Discussion] Crash Sites/Wrecks and their Loot

    This is an awesome idea, a couple criticisims 'Civilian International Jet AirLiners' I don't think a civilian Jet Airliner would really have a flare gun on them, unless it was really pure circumstances or someone smuggled one on board. The only planes I've ever seen with them are gigantic Boeing 757s that fly 1st class, and you probably wouldn't have any at Chernarus (at least often). Even if one did spawn, the algorithim that determined where it could spawn would have to be very well coded because Jet Airliners are MASSIVE and would probably clip with trees or bushes. 'Civilian Fixed Wing Aircraft' Well, these would be cool. I don't think finding military weapons at civilian crash sites is a good idea, they are civilian for a reason. 'Civilian Cargo' This idea is not bad, I think you really should have just merged it with the military one, because for the most part any civilian cargo is either going to be flown via airmail on passenger planes or on military transport planes (like the C-130). I also really doubt a vehicle in working condition is going to survive a plane crash. It would be interesting to see vehicle wrecks around or inside a plane so you could tell, but unless it's a really soft landing they would probably not survive. 'Military Cargo' This idea is good, but again; no working vehicles. Maybe vehicles that can be scavenged for weapons or other things. (I'd personally like it if you could take a weapon like a Browning M2HB off of a tripod or wrecked vehicle and use it later on your own). Also, NVGs should be super rare, and the loot should be around the same as a UH-1Y crash site. 'Military Transport' On the British note, there really aren't any low tier British items (The only ones that spawn from what I know are the AS-50 and the L85A2 with ACOGs, and the Army Uniform). I really think that British items should leave in the SA, they just don't make sense to have. Also, I think there should be VERY few crash sites on the map in general, where limits should be placed on how many crash sites are allowed on the map. Maybe you get lucky and find an Airbus or maybe you're wandering on the coast and sea an old seaplane floating in the water. I think I missed the point, though, which was that you wanted more variety in the crash sites you find around the map. Which I agree on, the only ones you can find are UH-1Ys right now. It would be nice and fun if you could find others. It would be interesting to see 'Ground' or 'Ocean' crash sites. Meaning randomly generated crashed convoys, or vehicles or boats. This thread's got my beans.

    They could, but for the 60s and 70s soviet bloc styled buildings along with the heavy industrial style, it wouldn't make much sense to have a lot of 21st century 'modernization'. However, I think a few skyscrapers (As tall or taller than the international hotel) would be nice, or at least the ability to explore the hotel itself.

    While I definitely think Chernarus could use more commercial business places, it's simply too rural of a country to make sense of a shopping mall. The biggest cities (Cherno, Elektro, Stary etc.) aren't more than 5,000-10,000 in population which is comparative to medium sized Westernized towns. While some sort of shopping center (maybe a large collection of stores or a strip mall) would be cool to have somewhere, a shopping mall just wouldn't make sense.

    Idea on Logout Rules affecting game play

    No. For one thing, this severely discourages passive play, and even many dedicated people would lose their stuff to incredibly stupid means because of real-life events. Forcing your character to remain ingame during the server (Even without a bot) would force people to spend all of their Non-DayZ time playing DayZ if they cared about their character. It discourages passive play and any event in reality that requires a person to stop playing (Work, School, etc.) is just a big 'tough luck'. Of course, the AI bot idea is even worse. Regardless of how well it is improved, the AI wouldn't be able to mimic YOUR playstyle exactly, and could possibly do some stupid or unnecessary things. What would it even do? Would it loot for you? Would it waste ammo on zombies that are 500m away and have 0.01% chance of spotting you through sight at midnight? This wouldn't work for anyone who isn't a robot constantly on DayZ.

    No spawn guns. The only reason you're starting off with one in the mod is because you have no hand-to-hand combat and a very basic and super glitched melee system.

    I like this idea. It creates a lot more depth and challenge, and discourages going up against large hordes of zombies or other players for better gear with a makarov just after you spawn. It also is going to stop the people who will buy the game and rage about it being too 'hard' from even bothering, which is a good thing. This should force new players to actually LEARN the game instead of act like a stupid 12-year old given a gun and told to shoot everything that they see. (EDIT: I also think that new players should start with NOTHING, definitely no backpack, flashlight, painkillers, and a very minimal amount of clothing)

    Robert Hammer's weapon packs are great. The thing is, a lot of custom servers use them to an unreasonable level. Most of his weapon packs give weapons that are really advanced. In fact, the only ones from this pack I could really see being in the vanilla would be the MP5K, Uzis and maybe MAC-10s

    So, say you're a Veteran player who wanted something different. You've had your fair share of L85s, M107s and the like, you've practically been everywhere there is to be on the map. If you shoot someone and kill them, any gear you leave they could just as easily come and get again. How do you solve this? Permadeath. It really explains itself, anyone who died would not be allowed to respawn; at all. Of course, this definitely shouldn't be mandatory but it could be something optional to make events more interesting. Besides doing this, it would also discourage/encourage KoS (depending on the scenario); If you're a new spawn and you've just grabbed a basic weapon; a Makarov or Hatchet or something, you'd definitely think twice before you shoot someone else is armed (simply put; you screw up, you get screwed.) Of course, this would also be problematic with players who killed soley for the reason to 'troll' or upset other players by forcing them off. It would definitely be interesting to at least see some servers utilize this. (Also, this may have been suggested before, but no one has used tags and any existing versions of this are buried under 400 pages of posts)

    That was more along the lines of what I was thinking, I guess the way I put it out there didn't really make sense. I'd never have any intention of this being mandatory and obviously you wouldn't put this on your server unless you were doing some sort of event.
  24. I agree, but some specific portions of the United States/Western equipment should appear to some degree, canonically. The most basic US Infantry weapons should probably stay (M4 variants, M16 variants and m249s). M240s, M107s, Mk.48s and other 'substandard' (Not meaning we don't extensively use them, they just aren't usually a part of regular infantry) should probably go, and be replaced with more Russian esque weapons (Like the PKM, RPK and RPD). In hindsight, I think they should add the RPG-7 simply because it's such a common worldwide launcher. Though honestly, this thread has been made plenty of times.
