I'm not entirely sure how common ultralight aircraft would be, as interesting as they are. Helicopters like the Mi-8/Mi-17 would be common, and it's unreasonable to expect them all to have been severely damaged, especially ones in hangars or unused ones. Helicopters obviously need to be rare and hard to fix, but it makes good endgame content because it's honestly terrifying to assault people with an Mi-8 armed with a PK. Yes, you could call it "OP" to have usable machienguns on a helicopter, but getting enough ammunition for it to be effective is going to be a lot harder.

I'm surprised there are more people that care about difficulty than fun. It's a game guys, you aren't playing it for fun!?

Server Hopping Master Thread to End All Threads
Chaingunfighter replied to Spockrock's topic in Suggestions
They can still just travel 3 minute outside of the zone and join an empty server to head back there. The only server hoppers who are still around at this point are people who do not care about time limits and are willing to do a little extra work to get free stuff. The problem with a lot of these so-called "easy fixes" is that they have been discussed before and there are obvious flaws to all of them. -
I don't know if I want the game to be entirely bow-dominated content, but having craftable and compound bows would be awesome (compound ones you find are obviously better quality). The hunting crossbow is confirmed, to say the least, but I'm not sure it will replace guns.

I wouldn't say that; AKMs are still very common in third-world militaries, as well as police and paramilitary forces. Original AK-47s are still seen on the battlefield, but they have been mainly outplaced by AKMs and Type 56s.
-
AKM, because it actually makes sense. The AK-47 would be incredibly rare and fills no niche the AKM does not, save for being slightly older and having a largely recognized title. And I don't get how you find the AK-47 to be any more "classic", I find that the blue-steel stamped receiver on the AKM is more recognizable and classic.

To stop Kill On Sight, we should make life more valueble

Remember that these same features would be punishing people who defend themselves. Plus, the person could just use melee/suppressed or quiet weapons/fire from a long range. -
The Community's List of Suggested Weapons for Dayz Standalone (Version: 1.29)
Chaingunfighter replied to alexeistukov's topic in Suggestions
Quite a lot, actually. They were incredibly common during wars like Vietnam (alongside the Type 56 and Vz.58) but became overshadowed by the huge amount of AKMs, Type 56s and eventual other variants. I'd reckon more than a few AKs encountered today are actual, original, Avtomat Kalashnikov models, but most of them are either in Africa or the Middle East. Chernarus would be dominated by AK-74 variants and AKMs, but you know this. -
Suggestion for a new weapon in DayZ SA
Chaingunfighter replied to Legomatrixfantasy's topic in Suggestions
L85s don't make any sense, no British soldiers were there in the ArmA storyline. Maybe after the canonical diversion point, but unlikely. -

Chaingunfighter replied to alexeistukov's topic in Suggestions
No point in having a nearly identical but much rarer version of the gun. Actual AK-47s are rare nowadays, AKMs (and Type 56s) are the main ones you see nowadays. The Mosin-Nagant is still used by police forces and is a popular civilian rifle. -
I think instead of having them being the only place, have them be the best places. Not every soldier in a heli crash would have died and not every soldier on the aircraft carrier would have either. The survivors would have likely headed inland, thus resulting in things like M4A1s around the world. Not sure I want British guns like the SA80 or L86, but maybe an Arctic Warfare rifle.
-
The Browning Hi-Power is a common civilian pistol. I wasn't actually talking about the L9A1, but the actual Hi-Power pistol. It is used somewhat reasonably internationally (Similar to the 1911) so I think it makes sense. The L85 just isn't common outside of the UK, and there are better and more common 5.56 rifles to be implemented.
-
Browning Hi-Power? Yes. SA80/L85A1/A2? No. The only reason people use American intervention as a reason for western equipment appearing is through ArmA 2 canon where the U.S. invaded Chernarus in midst of the civil war, and evidently some U.S. equipment got captured or lost only to find new use post-apocalypse. The UK only provided support to Takistan through canon, and the section of Chernarus we play in is not anywhere near the border to Takistan. Granted, that's just through ArmA canon, so we don't know whether it is DayZ canon, as well as the divergence point (I.E. where DayZ's own historical canon comes into play) I dunno, I think that weapons like the FN FAL, G3 and HK-416 would be more common than the SA80 series, so I'd rather them do those first, but before those some AK variants and before those civilian guns/crossbows/bows/other improvised weapons.
-
Sort of like an old and rusted out, but not destroyed, version of the plane that crashed in Cherno? I can stand by that.
-
I'd rather them do a more modern single-shot muzzle loaded rifle before they do any sort of black powder firearm. A single-shot rifle would actually be interesting, but they already have the double rifle so there's no need to do one now, and even then I don't know the statistics on single shot'ers outside of the U.S. (can't imagine very popular for anything but sport shooting or hunting)
-
Good point, and someone who is flying a chopper (at least in the SA) probably has pretty good gear. Either that or they stole it.
-
It would probably all be ruined or very damaged, though.

Can an M24 put into consideration beside the Mosin?
Chaingunfighter replied to mareak's topic in Suggestions
I'd love to see an M110 or other semi-automatic sniper (Especially SVD) but it seems like a lot of people hate the Mosin as is and a semi-automatic rifle designed for marksman/sniper roles would be awful in their minds. Same thing with RPGs, although an RPG-7 would easily be more common than the FNX-45 and (most likely) the M4A1/Colt Python but it's not really fun when you find an RPG-7 everywhere. -
Can an M24 put into consideration beside the Mosin?
Chaingunfighter replied to mareak's topic in Suggestions
Considering the M24 uses 7.62x51mm (or .308) it isn't going to be the rarest ammo around, granted nor will it be very common. Also, 25 pistols is a lot more than you'd think, I can't even think of 25 pistols that would actually be common, nor 20 hunting rifles, or 15 improvised weapons (They don't need 8 variants of bows/crossbows, and improvised guns really don't seem practical save for something like a flare gun). Likewise, I can think of well more than 5 "assault" rifles which fit the scenario. In all honesty I would just like a R700 though. Hell, it's almost exactly the same, "M-24" is just the basic military designation for the R700. You could even spray-paint it different colors like the Mosin and SKS to make it look military if you wanted, and give it scope attachments like the real thing. -
The FNX46 is the upgraded .46 AMP (Automatic Mustang Pistol), because we all know gun calibers are named after horses, and created by Ford.
-
They use 7.62x51mm, but that's already in-game used by the Blaser B95 and (incorrectly) the Mosin-Nagant.
-
It would be more fitting than a lot of other weapons and I'd like to have some variety if possible. Obviously doesn't need to be common, but I think automatic battle rifles would be quite interesting, as the post-apocalypse would see the revival (and obsolescence) of tactics and weaponry. I think it's mainly implied for people who suggest weapons that they be added at some point in the future, not necessarily taking priority over clearly more important features. Although the content team is not responsible for the basic features (hunting, fishing, herbalism, etc.) so it's better we keep them occupied and making new and various stuff to play with while we wait and get new implements.
-
I hope they the story's questions to some extent while keeping it vague for the most part. However, relevance to historical events in the game universe's timeline would be cool. Would it not be interesting to find books/artifacts from the old Chernarussian Civil War which is depicted in the T-34 tank/men with PPSh-41 statues?

Military Gear lootspawns need immense reductions
Chaingunfighter replied to Baklavah's topic in Suggestions
"Forcing" interaction just makes the game bad in the opposite sense and only flips the goalpost, not solves the actual problem. Fewer long-range scopes just means that people will KoS in close quarters more and it will actually be a lot harder to tell who is interested in working together/trading/non-KoS banditry. It's very easy to tell someone sitting on a hill/roof with a sniper rifle is not interested in interacting with you in any way other than sending a bullet into your head, but someone running around in closer ranges makes it a lot harder to tell and much riskier for you. I find it much easier to avoid people who snipe from a long range by using cover than taking cover from people at closer ranges (where less cover is available, closing distance is easier and escape is much more unlikely). That's just my two cents, although I would advocate for lower weapon/scope/ammo spawns out of realism, not to try and force a player mentality that just makes it annoying for the other side. -
Ideas to make Chernarus feel more Eastern European
Chaingunfighter replied to Jhunt7507's topic in Suggestions
Chernarus is set in, at least, the present day. You've got the FNP-45, which is from 2010, the M4A1, which is from 1996, as well as tons of other stuff which was created and/or became common after the 80's. Also, it makes perfect sense for DayZ to follow ArmA canon up until the point of the apocalypse, I mean the actual US intervention + postwar peacekeeping is plausible. Also, obviously some USMC soldiers were killed, and not all equipment could have been recovered during the USMC's leaving of Chernarus, so that would offer them a good and canonical explanation for the M4A1 and US assault vests, as well as the future Western weapons. If they don't go off of ArmA canon, they have bigger holes in the plot than if they don't, other than "it's a video game"
