Weathering on guns, wear and tear on clothing, more uses for spraycans, and more inventive ways to stay hidden
Chaingunfighter replied to Tricky_Vic's topic in Suggestions
Oh, you did have a point then. I doubt a very hastily made ghillie suit would hold together for long as you've said, and I guess if you really went overboard with painting you could probably inhale enough fumes to kill yourself, but that could be alleviated by wearing a mask or something. I do like the idea of customized clothing and objects a lot, just don't think something as trivial as painting should be super difficult to do. -
I'd be fine with a few of these so long as the majority of (if there are many) helicopters are Mi-8s or something.
-
I think the pumpkins should float around and attack anyone they see with their nonexistent eyes!
-
Not sure exactly how they would write a script for this. I'd rather they just keep it a server setting. I don't even use it all that often, though, so I wouldn't be upset if they got rid of it.

3 real-life hours = 1 in-game hour? And why exactly would a ghillie suit tear up after an hour? Painting your items does not need to be an impossible task (poisoning, 50% chance of base failure, binding solutions). I'd rather them just have craftable clothing and outdoor machined gear before we start painting our backpacks and coats. -
It would fit well considering they already have everything else Magpul for M4s/AR-15s (except BUIS, but I don't know if we need multiple sets of M4 BUIS)
-
But how interesting would it be to, in essence, only ever find an AKM/AK-74 in military spawns and occasionally a Mosin, SKS and IZH-43? I don't know how fun it would be to have a ratio that high for it. Granted, I think that AKs should probably be the most-common military rifles, but making it so skewed that you're almost never going to find a different gun sort of makes it boring. (And I'm not even for the Colt Python, Blaser B95 and FNX-45 in-game) And while the PPSh-41 would not exactly be common anymore, it makes a lot more sense than most other SMGs and there aren't a ton of those that I can ever imagine finding in a post-Soviet country like Chernarus.

Yes, I agree! Let's add some features from the award-winning QWOP to DayZ, and we'll have the greatest game in existence. He's not, he's making fun of people who take the whole realism thing too far. Big difference.

But when people say that it won't stop it, it means that it generally won't do anything to help the situation. People will KoS regardless, and I can guarantee the majority of people who KoS will continue to do so. Even if the zombies are impossibly tough, they simply aren't interesting to fight, and making them too difficult would be a problem in itself. Even reducing a mentality is very difficult. Just like vegans who say they are doing it to "help" the situation, but in reality plenty of animals are being killed in production of organic foods. The word "stop" is just used as a general term in reference to the fact that it will make next to no difference overall for that feature.

People aren't against the bow, I think we all want bows. I just don't think bows are going to stop the people who do find guns (someone has to, right?)

Loot Reset Mechanics for Object Permanence
Chaingunfighter replied to jfn3000's topic in Suggestions
Do not like the idea of the player's loot cache disappearing, it kind of removes the point of having a campsite at a pre-existing building. -
As annoying as spawn death is, I don't know that I can vouch for this. I personally would like it but I know it would still break the immersion at the same time.
-
You can already carry a gun in your hands, a gun on your back, a melee weapon on your back, a handgun in your holster, a sawed-off shotgun in your backpack and multiple handguns in your backpack. What more do you want!?
-
Most people are just going to shoot NPC survivors on sight (not to mention there is no real good way of telling them apart) for their gear. It would just make those 100 player servers huge clusterfucks of confusion where no one knows what's going on.
-
Yeah, and that's the problem. Usually I would take a secluded path and cut northwest rather than heading to the two major cities on the coast, but the towns in between are so sparse and rarely have enough food to sustain you through. I've also found that people tend to pick through those cities on their way to the NWAF or Cherno so it gets quite annoying and I end up just rushing to Bay Tikhaya and hoarding the food spawns at the supermarket.
-
The only problem I have with this is that it would make running between points extremely tedious in addition to stamina, but it's a good idea.

Direction of development: rocket & co. please read!
Chaingunfighter replied to pantsd0wn's topic in Suggestions
The teams responsible for new content and for fixing the game are mostly separate. If they did not have the new content then honestly we'd just see the same changelogs with the new stuff removed, When the modeling/texturing/animating guys decide to make something new, they should work on implementing and fixing that. They aren't responsible for the AI pathing of the zombies, nor for fixing the various bugs and glitches we find. -
Nah, it doesn't, and Rocket (head of DayZ) has said it probably won't happen. The reason we don't have zombies with any lootable clothing or stuff is because of optimization problems so I can imagine dead players fall under the same category. Anyways, wouldn't it make sense that the current people are alive because they are immune? Regardless, welcome to the forums, and remember to use the search function (This has been suggested many times)!

The Community's List of Suggested Weapons for Dayz Standalone (Version: 1.29)

I'm gonna guess the FNX-45 and Colt Python? Or M4A1 instead of Python? -
Interaction with the World & Buildings!
Chaingunfighter replied to CornflakeZ's topic in Suggestions
That would be completely unrealistic, why exactly are they slower than walking/running speed? Are they MK1 tanks from World War 1? And how come they have no weapons or ones that cannot be used? And the majority of tanks do not have a lot of extra room to store things. I don't think tanks are necessary anyway, the only military vehicles should be trucks, technicals and light cars (and helicopters later on) -
You said exactly what I've been wondering; where are the close-quarters sights (EOtechs, CQC Red-Dots, etc.), as well as attachments to give the R.I.S. handguard a point (Magpul and Vertical foregrips)? Yeah, there's the flashlight but in most cases the Magpul handguard is much better I'd suggest adding a PEQ box as well.

Open letter/suggestion/request to the DEVS: DO NOT implement nudity/scat/piss.
Chaingunfighter replied to crazykage's topic in Suggestions
/signed. I'm beginning to think that some people on this forum (assuming they're serious) are after "Real Life Simulator (with zombies): 2014" more than DayZ. Yes, it's realistic to have said features, but there are a billion other features which are realistic. Just to name a few; There are only 13 or so guns in the entire DayZ universe right now, and at least half of them hardly fit the settingEvery single car in Chernarus is an unusable rusted-out junker while the rest of the scenery is essentially fine. There are no animals in the current DayZ universe, save for birds and insects.Players can carry many pounds of gear and run with the same stamina as if they had nothing, even though it's clear we're not all U.S. Army Rangers.Suppressors in-game have no effectZombies in-universe have super powers and can run through walls and doors, but also are afraid to run through nonexistent invisible walls and lose sight of you when you enter a pine treeAll of the game's optics aren't even zoomed in as far as their fucking in-game description states.People can play music through their microphones, but I'm quite sure the people in-game are real humans and not androids with built-in sound systemsYou can leave the in-game world and rejoin as you please (dis-including the server-hop timer)Your character never has to sleepThe electrical grid has failed, but all of the game's light posts still workYou can hear a random chain-link fence sound absolutely anywhere in the world, miles away from civilizationZombies do not react to environmental noises. Some zombies are able to detect you from hundreds of feet away, silently lying in the grass, while others cannot see you sprinting right in front of themA large majority of players shoot others on sight. (I'm not opposed to this at all, but in reality it may not happen this way)Interchanging parts on weapons (Including well-attached parts like stocks and handguards) can be done in secondsDoors magically open as if you say "open sesame" without actually interacting with their handleThere are doors that are seemingly unblocked but cannot be openedThat's just a few of the unrealistic, or semi-realistic parts of the game. Do I think they all need to be fixed? No, 95% of them I couldn't care less about and the other 5% is more important than fucking excretion and nudity. My point is that there are many breaks from reality within the game, but the majority of the things I've listed people don't complain about because it's assumed something will be done or simply do not see the big deal in it, that's how I feel about this feature, it's not necessary and they have much better things to focus on. -
Map Converted To Island With Various Weather Climates - Images For Example
Chaingunfighter replied to dashx73 (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
1. Seems somewhat plausible, but I can imagine that security of any nuclear plant and its facilities would be a major military operation and disposal would be handled very carefully, because every government knows exactly what a reactor leak is capable of doing. Not to mention that changing the map to a relatively small island essentially removes the likelihood of a nuclear reactor being there, as there would be no point in building one. 2. Depleted-uranium, is just that, depleted. It gives off much lower levels of radiation than fission rods and that used in bombs. Trust me, they wouldn't use it in civilian aircraft (and armored vehicles like the M1A1 Abrams tank) if it posed such a hazard to the crews and civilians around it. Granted, long term direct exposure to depleted-uranium will probably cause some adverse health effects, but as a frequent flyer I can tell you that I have not grown any third arms (yet). 3. Even a "tactical" nuclear warhead would decimate a rather large area and render it useless, so they'd better have a damn good reason to use them. A significant portion (much larger than shown on the preview) of the map would need to be ruined and the radiation levels would certainly be lethal. I doubt you're going to find any Level A Hazmat suits in Chernarus (and any that were there would have been used early on due to the virus itself) so it essentially makes the entire idea of a rad zone pointless. -
That doesn't happen immediately, it takes (at the very least) months for that to happen and in some places years. For the first year or so the only major change to scenery would be having farms, lawns, gardens and human cultivated areas be overgrown with weeds and tall grass. Roads start cracking open allowing seeds in after many winter ice cycles pull the concrete apart (it consumes the road quickly once it's done, but it takes time to get set up). Most buildings would not see major (natural, not apocalyptic) damage for the first years to come. Chernarus+ still has full dirt & gravel paths, so it's obvious there hasn't been too much time after the apocalypse, and I think that justifies the setting well enough. (If they made it years after they'd have to completely redesign the map and make essentially all quality loot in bad condition and extremely rare [everything would be trash], although it seems like some DayZ players want it to be like this.)

First of all, you do not need a giant wall of colored and bold text just because you want people to look at your post. Second of all, your system is entirely arbitrary, as you admit (There's no good way to tell how 'interactions' happened without being there yourself) and assumes that everyone would be driven mad because they shoot people. Schizophrenia as well as other insanity-based diagnoses vary heavily on the subjects they do affect, and many people who have said syndrome have had similar experiences resulting in it. Hell, there are murderers and rapists who you'll often see on TV giving interviews, and are clearly apathetic and nonchalant towards the situation. No arbitrary systems are needed, it makes way too many assumptions to work, and does more harm than good in the end.
