Spawn weapons with didn't load outs and magazines
Chaingunfighter replied to Roshi (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
Yeah, it is pretty odd that you can find all sorts of attachments for the game's guns, but no one ever thought to put them on the guns until now. Obviously finding a pristine, full Magpul, bipod & ACOG M4A1 would be extremely rare, but if that stuff is in the game it makes sense that someone used it beforehand. -
I fail to see how it's an issue, of course they'll be rarer later on. It's not fair to just jump up and yell "GET RID OF IT, GET RID OF IT!" right after something comes in.

Those were people who were absolutely well-trained with the use of mortars, not to mention they probably had rangefinding equipment with them to make it many times easier. If you do happen to be a current/former soldier with mortar crew experience then you should be able to use it, effectively, as you would in reality. I think mortars would make the game interesting, as most people would not know how to fire them, and the fact that they are unwieldy and usually need a crew to operate it means that you wouldn't have large numbers of people taking them. In fact, they are less "OP" (Not that I find that argument valid) than long-ranged sniper rifles, as they are much harder to operate, find ammo for, and are completely indirect fire, whereas sniper rifles can be used at similar ranges (Not exactly 5 km, but up to 1-2 KM is still very far away), are direct fire and generally have more common ammunition. For those who would be able to use them effectively, it would be a lot more fun. It's not something they should focus on, definitely something to add long down the road, but I think that if they used realistic mechanics, then they would be cool when encountered.

First of all, no flaming is necessary. Second of all, he's right, the in-game zombies are not undead but infected. While the devs could change the zombie canon, it would require them to completely re-do zombies (again) and set up all of the new animations, scripts, modeling as well as the instanced limb destruction. That may be cool, but it would require a huge amount of effort that I don't see any reason for spending the time on. Also, I don't think it would be more interesting if you had to hit them in the head, firing two simultaneous buckshot rounds into someone's shoulder would probably kill them from the sheer force of the gun. Not to mention that the idea that undead zombies can survive without using their major organs is beyond me. Pretty much every part of your body is crucial to performing basic actions and movement, so there's no good reason why undead ones suddenly only need their brain and minor lung functions to completely work.

What do you mean "high-tech"? What are we, hunter-gatherers from 8,000 years ago? Yeah, society has collapsed, but modernization and globalization are pretty much everywhere nowadays. Post-Soviet countries are not limited to Russian-based items or equipment anymore and many have chosen to adopt western as well as eastern weaponry (the Czech Republic, for instance). I don't know why people think that we would all go back to using sharpened sticks, bows and random blunt objects after an apocalypse, modern tech still exists and is much more prevalent then all of the others. In fact, you'd probably see more guns than bows and improvised weapons pretty much everywhere, obviously the game can't completely follow that so that it gives said weapons a purpose, but it would take a while before gun usage would die down, and that assumes no one has set up places where new guns and bullets can be made.

These are the DayZ forums, where people do not want any high-capacity, select-fire, and/or long-ranged rifles, machine-guns, or explosives of any kind.

I'd like to see some adapters so we could use the western sights on the AK/SKS/SVD styled rifles, and vice versa, so they all have a little more versatility than being limited to a few, or in the case of the western sights, one gun. (Obviously more western weapons will eventually appear, but that's beyond the point)

I'd rather have people just spawn all around the map, having spawns only on a limited section of the east-coast seems too limited and heavily allows spawn-camping. While spawning in buildings would be cool, are you talking about anywhere on the coast, or just inside buildings at the same areas? If that's what you intended, I can't see any major reason to implement it, being that spawning outside is essentially equal and spawning inside objects could be very prone to spawn-glitches.

The Community's List of Suggested Weapons for Dayz Standalone (Version: 1.29)

Busy enough that it wouldn't be nightly updates or whatnot. I have the time to do it, just not every day. Wanted to be clear on that. -

I'm sure plenty of people (including me) would be willing to hope, but it's much better that someone who is obviously devoted to doing the thread steps up on their own. I would be glad to help, but I'm fairly busy, at least for now, so I can't promise frequent updates. -
More Military Clothes to Replace the "Full TTsKO Look"

That's why we need a flamethrower; EXTERMINATE! Or maybe just some molotovs, those would fit much more. -

Or both, the M60 & PKM are quite different and would perform differently -
So long as they stop strafing my shots, then I can't complain about this being added.

Sad we won't be seeing it for a while :|. -
Chris Torchia already said they won't be doing the original AK-47, as they have the AKM planned and there's no real differential value it adds to the game. The AK-107 and AN-94 are too new and not common enough to justify; I'd rather see an AK-105 before they did either of those. 1. AKM, AK-74, AKS-74U, AK-105, in that order. Remington 700 is fine, but I think it would probably be a hunting rifle variant with a possible scope. RSASS is so far fetched, it's not worth the time trying to justify it. MAC-10 is commonly .380 ACP and the Uzi is 9x19mm (which is in the game). The MAC-10, if they added it, could be a .45 version and the Uzi could retain its 9x19mm version. Both weapons are reasonable suggestions.

Somehow a thread about unique weapons gets derailed into an argument about America, the possibility of a zombie apocalypse, and people ranting about how they don't like Fallout 3/New Vegas. What the fuck, internet?

So, the Sig Sauer P226... let's talk about it for a minute (or two, depending on how long it takes you to read this). The Sig Sauer P226 is an incredibly useful handgun, having a decent 13 round capacity, as well as being chambered in 9x19mm, .357 Sig and .40 S&W (Probably only one of those calibers for DayZ). It is known for extreme reliability, and is rather ergonomic to hold (I've used one before, and it is). Any player looking for a reliable pistol would surely take a P226 over the FNX-45 or the Magnum as of yet, being that it stands in a middle ground of the two. However, the handgun costs a high price on the market and is not something that your average farmer or civilian in a post-soviet agricultural state would own. For that reason, I'd propose that it be strictly found in military/law-enforcement type locations, as I can imagine the gun's popularity would lend some to show up in Chernarus. I know that the devs have no reason to focus on this, and in the end it's just another military gun in a game that is supposed to revolve around civilian and improvised weapons (i.e. melee). However, I think that the P226 is a perfectly reasonable pistol to work on sometime in the long run and it's something I personally want to see eventually. What I want to know now is; what do you think? I made this poll because the P226 is one of my favorite all-time guns and I want to see how the community feels about having one. (Also, devs, add an Eotech to the M4 attachments if copyright restraints won't prevent you from even using a similar looking device, which I fear Eotech does actually claim on)

Then players would catch on to it quickly and it would end up being a place of instant death, not of anything supernatural, but of bandits hiding with Mosins and the soon-to-come SVD.

And the fact that it is used by the Russians in ArmA 2 and in Call of Duty: Black Ops II giving it a sense that it is only an "elit3-level special forces shotgun of d00m!1!111one". Most people think of the 20-round variant when they see it, and nearly everyone on this forum is opposed to anything that has high-capacity and/or shoots long-ranges or does a lot of damage. Probably an AK-103/AK-104, then, as those are 7.62x39mm guns. The guy in the first picture is definitely using an AKMS, though. -
Any creature that follows me will feel the wrath of my SKS.

Shanty Towns/Brothels would be player run if anything, but I'm not sure implementing prostitution features & animations is a very good idea...

The argument is hardly even logically sound for traditional zombie movies because they fail to explain how undead zombies can operate without most of their organs (You'd be surprised how many parts of are body are vital to have). If they have no bloodflow, they wouldn't be able to move, nor would they get oxygen to the brain necessary to keep it running. And i'd be fine with faster zombies, but I don't want them to be "OP". Tougher, yes, but I don't want a dumb attempt at making them the "main" threat per-say.
-
Yeah, revolvers & guns like the Mosin, IZH-43 & Blaze 95 are useful in that you don't need a magazine/speedloader to fully load them. However, they have lower capacities than most other weapons of their type so it makes it a harder choice among weapons with magazines. Right now they are more accurate but when the SVD comes it will probably be around the same as the other 7.62x54R rifles but obviously is magazine loaded. Then again, i'm not specifically for balancing the weapons as getting the gun you want should actually take some effort, but I do think it makes a fairly good passive balance to higher-capacity weapons.

The SKS is incredibly popular with farmers/hunters everywhere, even in the U.S. I'm not sure either a brand-new $1,000 FNX-45 handgun (released in 2012!) or a Kimber 1911 are going to be more popular in a rural, post-soviet state. If they added a Tokarev TT-33, Makarov PM and/or a Nagant M1895 (hopefully all three), then I can see them spawning more in larger cities, over guns like the SKS/Mosin, but farms would probably have good mixes of everything. I do think the models for the 1911 & FNX are incredibly sexy, though. No denying that, even how out of place they may be.
