I think people understand that you want ACE's sniping mechanics, you don't need to post that video every single time you respond to something related to snipers. Besides, ACE still has some quirky parts of the ballistics, mainly due to Arma 2's engine problems that Take on Helicopters solved to an extent. They're obviously better than the current Standalone mechanics, but the engine potential is greater than what ACE alone offers. On topic, I'd say yes so long as they were some of the rarest things in the game. Dean did discuss thermal scopes specifically when he talked about hive-wide rarity and control of item spawns, and I think it would be very interesting for only like 10-20 out of the thousands of people playing to have one. I mean, not everything in the gameplay has to be 100% balanced. Lucky or rare finds that are considerably powerful should be in the game, as long as not everyone has constant access to them.

Oh, really? I thought .308 was the largest. Whatever, I'm not too familiar with CZ firearms. -

The Mosin & blaze fire 7.62x51mm (even though the Mosin should shoot 7.62x54mmR) which is equivalent to the largest real CZ-550 caliber, even though the mod's one was lower. With that, I don't think they should "leave out" the CZ-550 and M14 simply because of "balance". Sure, we don't need the AS50 or M107, but that's because they are hardly justifiable for the game (maybe the M107, but it's pushing it pretty damn far) -
There is a 9mm suppressor for the CR-75. The 1911 doesn't have a suppressor because it doesn't have a threaded barrel, so it wouldn't fit onto the base gun.

Can Nothing be done about MetaGaming in Dayz?
Chaingunfighter replied to yorkmorgan's topic in General Discussion
You don't need a second computer to mute the in-game mic. It's very simple to change the mic settings or even install a virtual audio cable which changes where input is sent to. "Auto-detecting" it wouldn't work. -
Well, that's how I feel it should be; everything should be vulnerable, not invincible. I'm all for them adding more mechanics that encourage different playstyles (vehicles/bases = better endgame to strive for, hunting/fishing = opportunities to survive outside of cities, etc.). In fact, I think the biggest reason we have so much KoS and PvP is because there's not a whole lot to do. It's an early alpha game and the only real things we can do are test out the new features and report bugs, after that it's pretty much solved. But zones that have higher zombie spawns and variable loot rates is a great idea (i.e. military bases or large cities), I can fully support that.

The atmosphere could definitely use a lot of work, but the clinics & police stations as well as the other unique locations have definitely given the area a more "spiced-up" feel than it had in Arma 2. They've probably got plenty of plans to do more buildings and one-of-a-kind locations, but they take a lot of time to make and then configure for loot, zombie navigation as well as proper collisions and what have you. I'm quite impressed with all they've done so far, pretty much everywhere has an interior and there are plenty of places to go. It's just something that takes time. The cars look more "burned-out" than anything, but the damage is inconsistent. Some places look pretty bad while others seem like they're in fresh condition. My guess is that a few months-time has passed, enough for the car wreckage to rust through constant rainstorms, but not enough for even gravel paths to become overgrown.

Yeah, they are, I was referring to the mid-run weapons which are confirmed but not actively ready. The AK-74's model has been pretty-much finished for a while, but it's apparently on "indefinite hold" for whatever reason (maybe them trying to sort of the grenade launchers, who knows?) Torchia has also talked about a lot of weapons, obviously it's all discussion and we can't guarantee everything the devs say they want will be in. But they do have a long wishlist, G3s and FALs I'd love to see, and I'm sure they've got plenty of other guns on there (probably around 99% of all guns people have suggested and will suggest). Also, it doesn't really make sense to me that they'd want a "mid-length" AR-15 vs an M-16 when the M4A1 with a 14.5' barrel seems to be the standard "mid-length" weapon. I guess they could have a 16' barrel one, but an M-16 would be noticably different (and could fire in bursts). If they really wanted to they could just add different barrels, or a GAU-5/CAR-15 with an 11.5' barrel. Stalker had L85s, G36s, F2000s, even an AR-15 variant. The probable reason for the lack of a Makarov is that it uses 9x18mm versus the .45 ACP already in the game. You could argue that they should've done the Makarov before the FNX-45, but the FNX is re-used from ArmA 3 so it was probably easiest for them to do. (They could've used the MP-443 Grach, though.) Besides, we're still in the early testing stages of the game, not the final game. The weapons list is obviously not representative of what we'll have in the end. As long as we can count on it being in the game at some point it's not a huge deal, is it? -

It's funny, because I remember the devs discussing how thermo-scopes were a possibility with the hive-wide rarity options. Maybe we'll get one for the M4A1 or something at some point. But besides the point, considering we have FNX-45s, Kimber Warriors, Magpul-outfitted M4A1s, CZ-75 SP-01 SHADOWs, MP5Ks (Not a bad choice, but other MP5 variants make more sense) and likely a bunch of aftermarket, synthetic and tactical parts for the AKMs, I'm guessing more modern weapons will come eventually. Just hope they'll do the AK-74 & 870 first. -
Seems too artificial. Having something like this enforced by the server seems like an unreasonable limitation; in reality, what's stopping some bandit from going into a trade post and shooting it up? Nothing. It might seem like it would be diversifying playstyles, but it's not really doing that, as it is just taking away the ability of the (supposed) most common playstyle. If players actually managed to set something like this up themselves, I'd find that to be much more interesting and cool than an enforced in-game feature, anyway.

I'm pretty sure most people would just associate the broken cell-phones with junk loot rather than an actual easter egg. Besides, why are we suggesting easter eggs? I thought the whole point was for the community to not know what they are until they're found.

What are the most popular VoIP programs for DayZ?
Chaingunfighter replied to tatchell (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Not necessarily. The time it would actually take to develop a system for that isn't worth it. The majority of people who play seriously probably would circumvent it, the casual people who didn't would hardly be affected by it and aren't really solving anything. -

"When"? I don't recall them saying that they will do so, not to mention that they wouldn't even be able to do so. -
That's quite interesting. I guess canonical Chernarus is the same distance from Moscow as the Czech Republic in a different direction.

Somehow I think that would be more easily exploitable than hindering... someone shooting at you? Just jump off of the building and you'll be absolutely fine! -

DayZ's Sporter 22 could not, by definition, be considered a firearm. Unless Chernarussian laws call Nerf guns firearms. -

Attachment(s) for the B95 (and things in the gamefiles)
Chaingunfighter replied to irishroy's topic in Suggestions
Well, the only reason they did that was because the CZ-550 was in default Arma 2, so they used what was in-hand, although I would've liked more emphasis on insurgent-based weapons anyway. -
Attachment(s) for the B95 (and things in the gamefiles)
Chaingunfighter replied to irishroy's topic in Suggestions
Probably, but the CZ-550 and R700 fire a wide variety of calibers so having both wouldn't be a far stretch (Obviously over a long period of time as they still all fill similar niches.) -
Endgame should be finding a ruined kitchen knife :P. Remove every other weapon from the game.

Attachment(s) for the B95 (and things in the gamefiles)
Chaingunfighter replied to irishroy's topic in Suggestions
R700 would be cool, but then again, at this point in the game it wouldn't really perform any differently; Mosin currently uses 7.62x51mm/.308 for some reason and also holds 5 rounds. They could do the alternative calibers of the R700 (which seems like something they would do), though. And yeah, you're probably right about this instance, however irishroy has complained about the R700 specifically stating that it shouldn't be in because; " 1. It's American, 2. It's a high-caliber sniper rifle, 3. It's a high-caliber sniper rifle " I was questioning that -
Things that should be added in a near future (suggestion from a large group of players)
Chaingunfighter replied to ladatron's topic in Suggestions
I'm not saying they shouldn't add them (I like variety), but I'd rather them do more sensible weapons first. No need to be hostile, I was just pointing that out. Hell, the AEK-971 and AK-107 aren't even terrible ideas (although I'd rather have an AK-105 over 107 since it's more common and has a shorter barrel than the confirmed AK-74M) but there are more sensible weapons they could do, some aren't Russian. And my statement about Russian weapons was in general, not specifically you. There are plenty of people on here who do act like that. -
The only problem with having a vast landmass far away from Chernarus to go out and find is that there would be no players there. Now, the island of Utes would be fun to set out and find, and if they somehow had enough players per-server that they could have people spawning on both landmasses, then that would be cool.
