People are spending all of this time making actual rebuttals to gibonez' statement. In all truth, though, we don't need to. We're playing DayZ, not "Day". Getting rid of zombies or pondering what it would've been like without them is pointless. -

They're doing that anyway. Don't think there's anything that can be done about it, save for completely removing all of the out-of-place guns, but that would be just as pointless as adding them in the first place. Considering the game has more then just handguns, I don't know where you're getting that info from. Unless you think the main weapons in the full-game will be handguns. -
Faster way to get military geared up?

I know this is an honest question, but I also honestly think that you should never easily be able to have all the gear you want, at least not easily. DayZ isn't supposed to be an easy game, getting all of the stuff you want in a lifetime should be something you have to work for, not just a mad dash to Balota/NWAF/Loot-Spot-Of-Choice and then you're done. But to answer, I find that police stations are consistently spawning SKS rifles as well as pistols, for whatever reason (I've never had this much luck with them.) Staroye is a pretty good location to head for, it's got quite a few useful spots and is almost always untouched. -
They're already mainly using the M4. 5.56x45mm loses velocity very quickly at the ranges were fighting now (around 500-600m) so the lengthened barrel of the M16 proves rather pointless in the heat of combat. Most of the units already use their 7.62x51mm M240s or M110s/MK14s anyway, whilst using the M4 for shorter distances.

Probably won't be in the same patch, as they have to work on quite a lot of different things including 5.45x39mm ammo vs the 7.62x39mm which is already in the game and works. Eventually we'll have both, though.

We're getting an AKM and an AK-74M. The AK-74M is just an AK-74 with black, synthetic external parts instead of wooden ones. Here's a screenshot of the AK-74M with a GP-30 that they released a while ago; Here's the AKM: Two different guns. The AK-74M was "put on hold" as stated by Chris Torchia quite a while ago, but in that same statement he also confirmed that they were actively working on the AKM and SVD. And I'm not bitching about, it I know the game's M4A1 is called as such. (sorry if you weren't referring to me on that one)

AK-74M is on hold for some reason, but it'll probably be better overall considering 5.45x39mm will (likely) be the more common ammunition type. And I'd assume the GP-25 grenade launchers will be easier to find than M203s.

Exactly, but that doesn't mean we can't have western guns, either. Even if they're rarer, some modern weaponry like the HK-417 or SR-25 would be nice.

I'm not talking damage or dispersion, but there are some realistic things that would be completely annoying to have. Do you really want essentially permanent broken bones (Yes, morphine & splints could alleviate it, but it would still have to heal on its own)? How about being bitten by poisonous spiders that, for all intents and purposes, you cannot see? How about spending hours completely disassembling your M4A1, properly cleaning it and then reassembling it, forcing you to keep in mind every single piece that could be taken apart and putting it back together in the exact necessary order? How about being forced to watch your character take a piss and/or shit (for realistic durations of up to 10 minutes), with an exemplary complicated system that includes constipation and immersive, top-quality sound effects? Is any of that really fun to have in a game? No. Sure, it's a part of real life, but I didn't buy DayZ to have a permanently broken leg, play "Weapon-Cleaning Simulator" or watch my character excrete. -
G3 is German, FN FAL is Belgian. Germany and Belgium generally aren't considered eastern countries.

Yeah, I guess if they wanted to expand upon the US involvement thing then an MK12 or M110 would be fine (Preferably the M110 since we have the M4A1). They could also have an MK14/M39 EMR and HK-417, which I think would fit nicely. Although their high-tech status does seem kind of weird, they fit the game more than most people would like to believe.

Depends on what you mean by "high-end". Things like the M110/MK12 SPR, AS50 and WA-2000 have no place. Guns like the M24, SV-98, PSG-1/G3-SG1, L96/L115, and M14 are, to some extent, reasonable. We will get an SVD, though.

That would explain a ton of the modern weaponry we see, but then again I don't want them adding the MX, F2000 or anything like that. It's probably just set a number of years after Arma II and then diverges from there. Although there are those mysterious biohazard domes on Altis.

Well, I'm not arguing in defense of said people. But there are plenty of people who will say "yes" to anything that will make the game more realistic, simply because it is. Just like you've got all of the people calling for the devs to take out the Western weapons and abandon their hard work on them because they're unrealistic. -
Technicals with PKMs or DShKs are not overpowered, considering how hard it would be to maintain them and get enough ammunition to support them. Tanks & APCs don't fit simply for the amount of experience that you would need to use one. Helicopters with gunner positions using PKMs are not really that overpowered, for the same reasons as above. Better ballistic mechanics will make them incredibly ineffective to anyone who isn't a skilled shot, anyway.

The game's M4A1 is actually called the "M4A1", not "M4". Don't know what this thread is trying to say.

It's true to an extent, though. There are billions of things the game is lacking in that could be added for the sake of realism. Hell, you yourself are okay with the variety of weapons there are, even with some that are a bit out of place. There has to be a better reason to add something to the game than realism alone. Otherwise, why shouldn't we have sex, or rape? If they're willing to go to the extent of having digestive systems in the game, which are perfectly natural parts of human life, then why not have sex, which is as well. I'm not actually arguing for/against the digestion system, mainly the whole "ITS REALISTIC SO WE MUST HAVE IT" argument. It is pretty weird that they're adding some sort of mechanic involving shitting when the game has almost no semblance of nudity to begin with, so I'm intrigued to see what they're actually doing with it. -

Yes, DayZ is meant to be more realistic than most other games on the market. Does that mean that everything in DayZ must be as close to real life as possible, and that anything that's realistic must be added for the sake of realism? I'd say no. However, most of the points made on the post are fairly good ideas. My one major problem with the medical & vehicular ideas is that they seem to overcomplicate the things a little bit. We may as well just call it "Simulator Simulator, with zombies" if we need every in-game system to be a replica of real-life. -

Copyright issues. They can't call the Ruger 10/22 by its actual name because DayZ Standalone is an actual game made for profit, so Ruger could easily sue them. They could definitely buy the rights to use the trademark, but it would be expensive considering the vast amount of manufacturers they have and the oddity of having certain guns with real names and certain ones without (Not every company will say yes to using their licensing just because they're asked) The Contender isn't even a bad weapon. A lot of people have been asking for a single-shot weapon, and there aren't a whole ton of them that make any remote degree of sense. Sure, you probably won't find a lot of them in Chernarus, but you wouldn't find that many other single-shot weapons, either. Gotta relax man, we're going to get an AKM soon, and the AK-74 eventually. We already have the Mosin-Nagant M1891/30, SKS & IZH-43. Additionally, the Ruger 10/22, M4A1 & soon-to-come P-1, MP5K & Remington 870 definitely fit the scenario. I will admit that their pistol choice was kind of weird (Colt Pythons, Kimber 1911s, AWC Amphibian S, and the CZ-75 SP-01 SHADOW) and the B95 is also somewhat out of place, but those aren't the entire weapons set. Hell, a regular CZ-75, Ruger MKII & 1911 would also be fine, so you'd really have to look at it from a fiction standpoint where the exact weapon variations aren't going to be perfect. The alpha isn't meant to be the point of the game where the weapons set is accurate or complete, it's where the devs add new weapons to test them and see how they work out in gameplay. -
If the infection had reached the stage where grass had overgrown everything, you wouldn't really see that many corpses around. Plus, arma's engine doesn't really allow for the super level of detail required to make a unique overgrown landscape like games like The Last of Us, Crysis or Far Cry do. Plus, we can't really say humans are no longer the apex predator. Zombies are numerous, but we still have the technological edge. I know most people want most of the tech stuff out of the game, though.

The only problem with your suggestion is that trying to switch it between clientside and serverside could potentially cause some problems when you have multiple people in an area. -

It's part of the aiming deadzone that you actually can set in the mod and in the standalone, very helpful feature. I wish more games would have it, especially Garry's Mod (which lets you do that in the 'C' menu but nowhere else)
