    We'll probably have more than one SMG eventually. Doubt you'd find a Thompson M1A1 or M1928 outside of the U.S. but it's definitely a cool gun.

    The old Uniforms...

    They could implement the old one alongside the new one, where the new uniform (non-ArmA 2 one) was the USSR uniform of choice and ArmA 2's was the new one Chernarus adopted post-USSR. Or they could simply be different police divisions, I dunno.

    I doubt that they would do that, it adds a huge potential to screw up the game if they were referencing incorrect files. But to answer your question, yes, you can open the PBO file with some different programs (like PBO Manager, PBOview, etc.) and then just open the p3d files in a model viewer. Also, some people will port models to Arma 3 and then spawn them in. Clearly an MP5K, but it's missing the foregrip (so it'll probably have to be found) and the back of the model looks like it will be compatible with a PDW-styled folding stock.

    DayZ is not an anti-game, I don't care if John Madden, Randy Savage, Chuck Norris, the president, God, or Dean himself tries to tell me that. It's not an anti-game, by any measure, definition, theory, or basic concept. And besides, wouldn't you be able to tell whether an item was ruined or not by simply looking at it? The indicator idea is fine.

    The argument for this is essentially the same as those who want forced VOIP or no out-of-game chat; what little can be done wouldn't actually solve anything. Sure, it may take away a couple of spammers, but those who are determined aren't going to be discouraged by having to post their spam an extra 5 times.

    GPS & Nightvision Feature Wishlist

    Balance is not key, especially for super-rare items like GPS & NVGs. If you were lucky enough to find a pair of NVGs, you should have a good advantage over those who do not. NVGs aren't useful in the daytime (Which I'm sure many people will stick to regardless of changes) and there are plenty of alternate light sources that are and/or will be available (flashlights, head-torches, camp fires, lanterns, etc.)

    I'd imagine they'll include a mount in the abundance of parts they have planned. They have the pre-required attachments system already working, so I don't see why not (the RIS handguard for the M4 flashlight)

    Considering we can mount the LRS on the Mosin without any prior attachments I wouldn't be surprised if there were some support for western optics on the AKM even with modification necessary. It would be really dumb for the M4A1's optics to be stuck to just it. (I think the Crossbow can also use the T3N RDS, Aimpoint & ACOG)

    Chernarus is not in the USSR, which ended in the 1990s. DayZ is not a simulator by any means, there are tons of breaks from reality it makes that could be changed well within the boundaries of realism and practicality but are not simply because they do not add anything or would take away from the overall experience. Also, there's no statues of Lenin in Chernarus, just the statue with the T-34/85 on it and the one with revolutionary forces holding PPSh-41s

    While your overall idea is interesting, fixing the zombies is not as simple as you'd think . But regardless, having a permanent infection feature would be essentially pointless, and not fun. I'm fine with you getting illness from the zombie's uncleanly, bloody hands, but to actually get the virus wouldn't be fun nor would it make sense (Dean has said no to players becoming zombies)

    Right. Nothing. That's not an overreaction at all, perfectly reasonable assumption. Let's beg the devs to release the alpha super early, then complain about everything and get them to change it. Then let's complain again that we don't like the new changes. Then we'll complain that we want the changes back, yet again. For fuck's sake people, you can never be pleased.

    What dayz could have been without zombies

    Most of the hills people camp on are relatively low to the ground, or are sheltered by trees. Granted, attitude temperatures would be an awesome feature, especially if they made some larger mountainous terrain to the north or west. Not sure about the random cramp animation, but having more effects to starvation/dehydration then just dying when you run out would be cool.

    Origins mainly took weapons from pre-existing Arma 2 weapon's mods and just re-configured them (like Vilas' Weapons, RobertHammer's, etc.) In fact, pretty much every mod did, only a few of the big mods actually made their own models and even then they relied mainly on already existing ones for the most part. Besides, I don't really count mods to a mod as being a comparison. Obviously a mod for a completed game with already available assets is going to be more complete than a standalone game essentially redone from scratch still in the alpha stage.

    (Not including mutiple of the same variants of weapons, as standalone has attachments) The mod had the G17, M1911, M9, .45 Revolver and Makarov pistols. The SA has the FNX-45, 1911, Amphibia S, CR 75, and Magnum .357, the same number as the standalone as of now, technically the mod had one more if you include the PDW. However, we have a Thompson Contender and Walther P-1 confirmed, so that actually means more pistols altogether, and we're still in the alpha. The mod did have more shotguns (3), the standalone has two, but the 870 is confirmed. Now, yes, it did have quite a bit more rifles, smgs & lmgs, but many of them were out of place and were just reused assets from Arma 2. So it's not really fair to complain about the standalone not having enough weapons when its' early in development, we have more, and they are all being made from scratch.

    Faster way to get military geared up?

    I'm not saying high-target loot spots shouldn't be something to shoot for. Obviously places of value are an important part of the looting aspect. My main concern is that you can go somewhere like Balota or the NWAF and get essentially everything you'll need. I'm not saying they need to start removing buildings/tents from there, but simply lower the overall loot spawnrates at said locations or at least give a higher chance to spawn junk/broken stuff.

    People are spending all of this time making actual rebuttals to gibonez' statement. In all truth, though, we don't need to. We're playing DayZ, not "Day". Getting rid of zombies or pondering what it would've been like without them is pointless.

    They're doing that anyway. Don't think there's anything that can be done about it, save for completely removing all of the out-of-place guns, but that would be just as pointless as adding them in the first place. Considering the game has more then just handguns, I don't know where you're getting that info from. Unless you think the main weapons in the full-game will be handguns.

    I know this is an honest question, but I also honestly think that you should never easily be able to have all the gear you want, at least not easily. DayZ isn't supposed to be an easy game, getting all of the stuff you want in a lifetime should be something you have to work for, not just a mad dash to Balota/NWAF/Loot-Spot-Of-Choice and then you're done. But to answer, I find that police stations are consistently spawning SKS rifles as well as pistols, for whatever reason (I've never had this much luck with them.) Staroye is a pretty good location to head for, it's got quite a few useful spots and is almost always untouched.

    They're already mainly using the M4. 5.56x45mm loses velocity very quickly at the ranges were fighting now (around 500-600m) so the lengthened barrel of the M16 proves rather pointless in the heat of combat. Most of the units already use their 7.62x51mm M240s or M110s/MK14s anyway, whilst using the M4 for shorter distances.

    Probably won't be in the same patch, as they have to work on quite a lot of different things including 5.45x39mm ammo vs the 7.62x39mm which is already in the game and works. Eventually we'll have both, though.

    We're getting an AKM and an AK-74M. The AK-74M is just an AK-74 with black, synthetic external parts instead of wooden ones. Here's a screenshot of the AK-74M with a GP-30 that they released a while ago; Here's the AKM: Two different guns. The AK-74M was "put on hold" as stated by Chris Torchia quite a while ago, but in that same statement he also confirmed that they were actively working on the AKM and SVD. And I'm not bitching about, it I know the game's M4A1 is called as such. (sorry if you weren't referring to me on that one)
