    The TANK Thread

You rarely see tanks like that even functioning today. Of all the German Panzer IVs ever built, only around 4 or so (last time I checked) are known to still be running, and they built thousands of them. I'm not sure too many Type 97s or Type 99s are still running, either. Regardless, my whole point was just that they don't add anything to the game in comparison to helicopters or planes which still require similar skill & power to operate but do make a difference in the end. I'd rather have a C-47 or Boeing 737 than a T-72, even though the T-72 clearly makes more sense in terms of realism. (The plane that crashed into the international hotel appears to be a C-47 but I could be wrong) The Chernarussian military operated T-72s, BMP-2s, BVP-2s & BRDM-2s before the outbreak (as we can see around the map in Chernarus+), so if they had to add something it would best be one of those. A BRDM-2 wouldn't be too awful in my mind, especially because unarmed variants of them exist and they only have light armor.
  2. Yep, let's just remove the hours of work they spent on making a few attachments because I don't feel that they fit. The fact that I found a Magpul stock is just so gamebreaking that they need to completely delete any evidence it ever existed in DayZ because DayZ is not a mil-sim and anything that has ever been featured in any medium of fiction or reality that features, involves, or references a military/defensive force/protectorate has no place in DayZ. Unless it's Russian (then anything goes).

    Bicycle Suggestions/Discussion [Official]

We know nothing of what happened before the time DayZ takes place. There's still the time after the outbreak and then the 11 billion years predating that. Peacekeeping forces, supply drops, the war with the CHZdK, Russia & US some years ago, Chernarus simply adopting modern firearms, arms dealers selling weapons to the remaining population, a possible invasion/incursion from other forces before the outbreak, or a resurgence of the CHZdK can all be explained as for why seeminly 'out-of-place' guns are there. Remember that the Chedaki insurgents had G36s and other modern weaponry that they clearly brought in from elsewhere, as did the Takistanis themselves. The US could have simply lent weapons to them, too (and we don't always just lend them our own tech, we've given quite a lot of foreign weapons in aid that we've never used ourselves)

    Bicycle Suggestions/Discussion [Official]

I'm sure railed conversion kits for the AKM will be among the many parts that they've said will be available, but most countries today utilize modern variations on their older weapons. Hell, even Syrian rebels have FN F2000s, Steyr AUG A3s, AMD-65s, and brand new SA-58 FALs. A few modern weapons besides the FNX-45 and M4A1 would not hurt.

    Bicycle Suggestions/Discussion [Official]

The LRS is not high-tech at all. The M68 Aimpoint CompM2 and T3N RDS optics are much more advanced, but they are also part of the M4A1 which is the most advanced rifle in the game as of yet. The FNX-45 falls close with its MRD and the simple fact that it's only been out for 1 year.

    The TANK Thread

Grenades, .50 caliber machine guns, claymores, anti-materiel rifles, and most IEDs are generally ineffective against MBTs. Lighter APCs/IFVs can take some damage from those but very little. I don't see the point of having any tanks/APCs/IFVs in the game. They simply require too much to operate and also require a very large crew who needs experience, in addition to adding little to the game. Helicopters are definitely similar to operate but they add much more to the game and can be taken down without immense firepower. ---- I actually do want to see an RPG-7, RPG-2 and/or M-72 LAW, so long as rockets took up a lot of space and were incredibly hard to find. Also, the LAW can only be fired once, so if you miss or screw up then you've just wasted a huge asset. The RPG-7 & RPG-2 are reusable but they have much more tendency to fly off course. IEDs, molotovs & hand grenades are a must, at least for me.

Loot, Supplies - They're just too common.

I hate using the "alpha" excuse, but we can't have finalized loot sets this early in development stage. Things are being added all the time and need to be tested. Bugs would go unnoticed and unfixed for much longer periods of time if people had limited access to them. And because of the loot hotspots, I doubt people will move away from them regardless of whether stuff is rare or not. Hardly visited locations will remain that way, in fact they'll be even more passed by because of people trying to get to places known to have more/better loot. Starvation would become very annoying if it were a problem you had to deal with right from the bat anyway, as most of the close-to-coast locations would be looted and people would die before they could go inland enough to get some. Sort of a double-edged knife.

Motive of the Cold War in the game

The DayZ art team actually made those models that went into Arma 3. I believe that's the same case with the FNX-45, although I'd be very willing to believe that the A3 team made it first, as it is incredibly modern.

Motive of the Cold War in the game

The setting is never explained, however it's safe to assume that it takes place sometime in the late 2010s/early 2020s (FNX-45 came out in 2012, there's 2017 cereal, etc.) However, it could be in 1860 for all we know, if the devs wanted to make that the game's history they could. Hell, the Battle of Thermopylae could be happening at the same time, and it just so happens M4A1s, SKS' and modern tech existed only a few thousand miles away.

    How's The Game Lookin'?

I cannot fathom how poor weapon mechanics ruin the entire game for you. That's all you ever complain about, but poor dispersion and an unrealistic attachment system is so bad that the entire game is worse than the mod?

Because every one of those $40 million dollar bills is actually a small robot that is programmed to go into DayZ and find every possible bug and/or complaint that specific people have and to fix them.

    More WW2 guns?

I'd like an SVT-40, Tokarev TT-33, MP-40, KAR-98K, M3 Greasegun, and PPSh-41/PPS-43 in the long-run. However, 50s/60s/70s/80s weapons would probably be the majority of guns you'd find in Chernarus (AKMs, AK-74s, AKS-74Us, SVDs, G3s, FN FALs, M16s, RPD/RPKs, Makarovs, etc.)

    Abandoned Film Set

So, I've been reading a lot of posts lately, specifically ones on the in-game camera, head bobbing, and such, and this has led me to what I feel would be great for the atmosphere; An abandoned film set.' Now, before you start ranting about "Chernarus would never have enough money for a film studio!", just hear me out. (Above is part of the abandoned Star Wars sets that were filmed in Tunisia) The story could essentially be explained as; some rich film company (probably U.S.-borne) had traveled to Chernarus to take part in filming of whatever new movie was being released at the time, where the outbreak unfortunately hit before filming was finished and everyone involved either died or fled. The set of the film would definitely give an interesting atmosphere that is clearly different from the rest; maybe realistic, but obviously fake or temporary props, fixed lighting, old cameras and lots of equipment lying around. Maybe bits of debris or fake blood scattered around, amidst the real blood of the now deceased and/or infected people on set. The setting would send an eerie message; that what we often depict in media can quickly become a reality. Besides the fact that it would add to the setting, it could also help to explain the over-abundance of American goods found, especially the PayDay masks (It's a much better excuse than them being used for festivals). The film set could offer a variety of unique loot; interesting costumes or what-have-you that cannot be found elsewhere, or maybe blank-converted firearms that would be useful to fool someone, but not in combat. (Part of the abandoned set from 'The Abyss') So, what do you guys/gals think? Would an abandoned film set be cool, or no?

    your choice in weapons?

FNX-45 with MRD is probably the best sidearm you could ask for, although I do like the Magnum. I really wish the M4A1 had an Eotech and/or Shortdot sight, I would use it much more than I do now, but until that point it's just going to be the Blaze 95 (Also great gun). I tend not to use the SKS because I can never seem to find 7.62x39mm rounds and I'm so accustomed to the Blaze at this point that switching would be bad. Instinctively reloading the SKS after every two shots would be a nightmare.

    Cars confirmed?

They're clearly confirmed, just looking at the Steam page will prove that, but the devs haven't really said much about them yet, since they're focused more on the AI and survival aspects.

smal loot goes crazy in a backpack

That's actually a really cool idea, although pristine backpacks shouldn't drop anything and honestly worn shouldn't either, but damaged ones will have a good chance of dropping stuff... Oh, and ruined ones? Good luck keeping anything in there. +beans

    Abandoned Film Set

It would definitely be something fun to go find, like the shipwreck, massive apartment blocks, castles, or prisons whenever they're implemented. Long down the line, if they were to make a map in a different, possibly more urban location, you could have posters or advertisements around specifically for the movie itself, adding to the overall interest and atmosphere.

    Primitive weapons

Ammo reloading is a complex process, it requires tons of machines and tons of necessary components. Besides, if you were required to reload for most of your ammo, primitive weapons would end up being the majority of weapons regardless, so your argument is null.
  22. Chaingunfighter

    Primitive weapons

I can see having some decently powerful, albeit rare melee weapons like authentic officer's swords or stun-guns be available, but I guess in the end you'd probably just take an Amphibia or suppressed gun when available. I would, however, prefer the majority of weapons that spawn to be melee items (since most of them are improvised/tools/more common in general), simply for authenticity (Not to the extent of having more katanas/halberds/gladius' than Mosins but definitely more knives/hammers/axes/shovels/wrenches/etc than FNX-45s)

High Pop, Low Pop, Why Pop?

Nope, not an anti-game. Sorry. And to be honest, I don't know that I'd like this feature considering the majority of the servers are empty, and another large portion have only a few people on them. That means that 9 times out of 10 you're going to be joining a server and never see anyone (A couple of those servers may have had people, but only a few).
  24. Chaingunfighter

    Primitive weapons

Yeah, it's just that crafting spears and bows seems relatively pointless considering the availability of firearms and conventional melee weapons. Obviously we'll have reduced weapon spawns in the future, but I don't think we should have to play for 6 months at a time to find an IZH-43 just because some people want primitive, craftable weapons. I'm not sure what the point of having them would be without super rare pre-existing weaponry (including even basic melee weapons like knives), but that's something for the devs to figure out. Knife-Spears would be cool, and obviously molotov cocktails and IEDs are a must. Bows, at the very least, seem necessary simply for variety's sake if anything.

    As-50_Thermal and MP5K [ Standalone ]

An M3 Greasegun, on the other hand, makes more sense. These things were much more widely used because they were cheaper, and saw use well after the war ended (even into 1991 with the US alone) whilst the Thompson really phased out after the Korean war (yes, it was used in Vietnam, but limitedly). It fits the scenario moreso than a Thompson does, that's for sure (At least, it feels more authentic.) Of course, the best WW2 SMG they could have would be the PPSh-41, and followed afterwards by the MP-40 and M3.
