The devs do read through the suggestions quite a lot, but you'd be surprised how much the same stuff (or very similar) stuff gets repeated and becomes redundant to hear over and over. People do elaborate on ideas better than originally posted, but I'd reckon about 75% of suggestions posted (in a day) have probably considered by the devs already. But yes, plenty of things in the standalone have come through people talking on the forums.

No Attachments for Attachments [Torchia Tweet]
Chaingunfighter replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
To be fair to Chris, I didn't post the prettiest version of a carry-handle based red-dot sight. Black-Hawk down styled ones are probably a better representation of what these types of sights usually look like (and look much better). I just couldn't resist putting up Tears of the Sun because it's one of my favorite movies. May not be the most useful, but is that not badass? Oh, nevermind. Apparently no one else wants these either. Whatever -
No "Specialized" Cartridges [Torchia Tweet]
Chaingunfighter replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
They are probably only saying what they're saying now because people are asking for tons of guns so early in development. Yeah, they're not all begging for them ASAP, but being a developer it would be redundant looking at "Can I have this gun and that gun and that gun and that gun" posts every single day and responding to them with a definite answer. I'd say the only thing we should be certain about is that we won't get .243, .30-06, 7.92x52mm, .303, or whatever right off the bat. They'll probably make a bunch of bolt-action rifles, but they'll start off with just a few. At this stage it's better to get a general set of weapons that use similar ammunition so we can have a few of the basic weapon types to utilize while they work on rarer stuff later. If they actually did a VSS, It'd (hopefully) be extremely rare, but there's no point in adding something like that in at an early stage. Weapons aren't really the priority anyway. I'm more interested to see what they do with hunting, the medical system, and other mechanics than having a CZ-550, Remington 700, Springfield M1903A1, Gewehr 98, Winchester Model 70 and Steyr SSG-69 all at the same time. (Even though I'd like all of them in the game) The only problem with that even if they do change up the calibers is that guns like the SVT-40 which share ammunition with the Mosin would still be superior. -

Or maybe they'll correct it to 7.62x54mmR when we get the SVD. Who knows, the actual bullet model is of 7.62x54mmR rounds, so it's really the B95 that has the incorrect ammunition, and I don't know how many people would know what something as the B95 would shoot. I think you're being a bit of a downer to say we'll only have a few hunting rifles because they follow a similar pattern. -
I'm talking gameplay wise. I know that stark differences are indeed present within the real-life version, but replicating actual differentiation between the two would be difficult considering many real-life factors are poorly (or simply cannot be) represented in games. I love the Vz.58, but it's very close to the AK in external appearance and performance-wise it would be similar at worst. I certainly hope they implement it down the line, but working on it at the current stage would be redundant. Awhile back I was advocating for a Type 56 to be put in alongside the AKM, but that's even less likely than the Vz.58, so...

Hell no. If they were going to do anything they'd may as well do 7.62x25mm Tokarev but even that's a horrible idea. -
I just want them as lootable objects, not that they need to have some sort of set value that the game provides. $1 bills existed before the apocalypse, you could still find them afterwards. They may not have any singular purpose but it adds definition to what a real apocalypse scenario would be like (Not everything you find could be useful, even though money could be used as a short fire fuel)
-
Probably just to get the whole effects of attachments out. They wanted to show off and experiment with the different pieces you can put on your gun, and they were part of the process. Now I doubt we'll get subsonic ammo for a while, as they're focusing on generalized ammo for now, but I wouldn't lose all hope. I'm not too concerned, personally, if subsonic ammunition in itself isn't required. The random dispersion is much more of a concern of mine, regardless.

It wouldn't matter now; suppressors have no effect as of yet.

dammit double post

I think it'd be interesting to find different kinds of money (Mainly USD, Euros, Rubles, and Deutsch Marks) but their set value would probably be limited because you cannot do a whole lot with them. Still, it'd be interesting to make a coin collection or whatever as another one of your "DayZ hobbies" (like reading, for instance)

Too arcadey. Besides, people could simply leave their ammunition/gear on another server, leave and go hoard ammo from some empty server and then come back and voila! Double ammunition. It would simply increase the gap between the ammo hoarders and completely defenseless. Ammo should just be rare overall, but not to the point where no one could find ammunition for days on end (On an entire server in every loot spawn)
-
I'd rather them focus on things other than guns at the moment, we just got 4 recently (technically 5 if you count the Engraved 1911), and we've got another three coming soon (AKM, P1 & Thompson Contender). That's 15 guns since release (including the sawed-off IZH-43 & engraved 1911). And don't forget the AK-74, Remington 870, M203 & GP-25, and SVD that are eventually coming. Obviously plenty more guns will come out by the year's end and the RPD & Makarov are something I'd want a lot, but they should really focus on adding new food, medical supplies, clothes, etc.

The mod was worse with "carbon-copies". There were only a few variants of AKs & M4s, pretty much every other gun only had 1-2 other kinds (the M14 for instance) Meanwhile the current M4A1 has a plethora of attachments to make it "you", and the AKM will likewise. The SKS, Mosin, and most of the pistols have a good amount of attachments, too. Also, all of the wooden rifles (SKS, Mosin, Blaze & Sporter) can be spray-painted. Not to mention the awesome amount of clothes & melee weapons to complement them. I don't think he ever said it wasn't possible, just that it's not something worth making at this stage right when they're just releasing the AKM. There are other weapons in need of more priority than another 7.62x39mm AK variant right off the bat.

Love How Everyone Is An Expert
Chaingunfighter replied to zombiewarpig's topic in General Discussion
They're secretly working on a giant, 8 billion polygon Dallas PayDay mask that will cover the entire sky (And block out the sun, to force people to play night time) and constantly face every player. That's why development is "slow". The game has less bugs now than Fallout New Vegas and that's a game that came out 4 years ago and has had numerous updates/patches. Sure, there are some key problems like the zombie pathfinding, desync, server hopping/combat logging, hacking, etc, but they've fixed tons of the horrible glitches we used to have. And it's a perfect "excuse" (as you call it) because you were warned not to buy it. You have the right to complain about it, but only with freedom of speech, and you do not have a right to be taken seriously. The basic game structure is also in place, having a lot of bugs/glitches and not having the full feature list does not suddenly detract the alpha status. They've got the entire map essentially finished, they have working character systems, loot spawns, day/night cycles, basic zombie pathfinding, and a large variety of items. -
So, any word yet on when/if we will get realistic (not random) balistics?
Chaingunfighter replied to crazykage's topic in General Discussion
The mod was lacking in more than just one area in shooting. Granted I don't find the fact that the Mosin can use an LRS to be the end of the world, but still. -
Not to mention that in the Arma universe the forces widely made use of unconventional weapons. Some of the Insurgent soldiers carry G36s in addition to their plethora of AK variants. The Takistani insurgents used M16A2s, Lee-Enfields, FN FALs, M4A1s, and even Taurus Tracker revolvers. It's not hard to believe some non-Russian/staple western weapons (I.E. guns other than the AKM/AK-74, M4/M16, FN FAL, G3, etc, would appear, such as the G36 or AUG)

Dean has talked about loot actually being spread across the hives rather than servers. So once private hives get released they aren't necessarily bound by the loot restrictions of public server, which may only have 1-2 of a certain item across the board. Besides, groups can still send people to go get parts and then come back, it's not like they'd be forced to leave a server forever.

You're talking as if you represent the entire community, which is not true (There are plenty of people who hate snipers and love the fact that it's impossible to hit anything beyond 1-2 inches away without pure luck.) And the mod was hardly any better for ballistics. Most of the guns had true-to-life accuracy and bullet drop (or were close to it), but Arma did not have wind, air pressure, and rain did not effect your bullets at all. Also, most of the guns could not be zeroed (in addition to the weapon model quality varying greatly, meaning that some weapons were easier to shoot simply because of their sight quality). That's not to mention how poorly most of the weapons worked with the old combat system; the pistols were mostly useless The (M9 SD, PDW & G17 were okay, but I digress), a lot of guns had very skewed damage (A 7.62x51mm [DMR/M14] could drop a target in 1-2 shots, whilst it took 7-8 5.45x39mm [AK-74] rounds, and an uncountable number of 9x19mm/9x18mm rounds [it was rare to kill someone with an MP5/Bizon, and with a Makarov, well, a miracle]), and the general weapon variety was not good at all, even for what was available; For eastern guns, the mod had the Makarov, Double-Barreled Shotgun, CZ-550, Bizon SD, AK-74, AKM, AKS-74 Kobra, AKS-74U, SA-58P, SA-58V, SA-58V CCO, SA-58V RCO, SVD Camo & RPK. The RPK didn't come until very recently and the two highlighted SA-58s are completely westernized versions of their guns. Meanwhile, for western guns, the mod had the M9, M9 SD, M1911, G17, PDW SD, Revolver, MP5A5, MP5SD6, M1014, Remington 870, FN-FAL, FN-FAL AN/PVS-4, L85A2, 4 G36 variants, 7 M4/M16 variants, the M240, M249, MK-48, M14, DMR, M24, M40A3, Winchester 1866 & Lee-Enfield. While not all of those are bad choices (many of them fit well) they were clearly skewed in the wrong direction, and there were plenty of assets available that would've made much more sense (the PKM, other AK-74/AKS-74 variants, AK-107, Makarov SD, Bizon, Saiga 12, etc.) Not trying to argue for the new ballistics, but you're acting as if the mod was ever the golden age of shooter realism or something, which it was not -
Foregrips - What Should They Do And How Should They Do It?
Chaingunfighter replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
Well you wouldn't have spent the time on them to begin with. And I would never have complained if someone suggested them and they didn't get added. I'm sure if you put hard work into something that someone else thought out of place you would probably not feel the same way you do now. Yes, that'd be because what you added you'd think (and logically so) in place, but nonetheless. -
Plus there's a supermarket and military base there. Since the change of spawns I've never seen anything looted there (either that or people have just covered their tracks well). Even beforehand I've only seen the military base cleaned out three times and the supermarket opened once, but still full of loot, and that was probably because it was close to balota.

Bicycle Suggestions/Discussion [Official]
Chaingunfighter replied to ianaconda's topic in Suggestions
Cheaper =/= more common. Also, this may be true for wherever you live (I'm assuming a western country), but eastern countries do not spend as much money on gliders and the cost of buying/importing them could be very expensive, something that an average farmer could not afford. It's not like anyone's ever sent hang gliders as economic aid, either. Ultralights wouldn't make that much sense either. Granted, they're more believable, but hardly so. What we tend to think of when we think of common helicopters/planes make the most sense (Mi-8s, UH-1s, Bell 206s, Cessnas, AN-2s, etc.) -
Bicycle Suggestions/Discussion [Official]
Chaingunfighter replied to ianaconda's topic in Suggestions
Just because something is civilian does not inherently mean more of them are going to be available. The region is simply not meant for hang-gliding (There is hardly enough natural elevation where you could take off without crashing into trees or buildings). I'd actually think more civilians would own small planes than hang gliders considering they could actually use them (Remember that there was a civilian Mi-8 in Arma 2) Even if a few people did have hang gliders, the military would definitely operate more helicopters. I doubt Chernarus would have more hang gliders sitting around than civilian helicopters/plane as well as military helicopters/planes and internationally owned helicopters/planes. And I'm not even saying all of the helicopters/planes would still be working, but the idea that hang gliders would be easier to find is absolutely ridiculous. -
Bicycle Suggestions/Discussion [Official]
Chaingunfighter replied to ianaconda's topic in Suggestions
Where would you launch it from? And how likely is it that you'd even find one? A country like Chernarus could operate over 100 Mi-8/Mi-17s in addition to AN-2s and other planes/helicopters, and I'm not sure a single person in the country would have a hang-glider. It'd be Far DayZ 3. -
The tank wrecks around the map would be impossible to fix considering they're static models (and most of them are run down beyond repair, regardless.) Up-armored cars? Sure. Main battle tanks? No. It's a good ways away if they ever come anyway. Dean even said himself that he doesn't expect there to be vehicles for a while and they'll just be focusing on bicycles, motorcycles and ATVs. Simple cars probably won't even make it in this year.
