The Community's List of Suggested Weapons for Dayz Standalone (Version: 1.29)
Chaingunfighter replied to alexeistukov's topic in Suggestions
Yeah, it was prone to breaking and simply could not be controlled. It was similar to the US' Vietnam-era M14s, which were also select-fire, and suffered from similar problems; they couldn't be controlled while firing in automatic. The M14s weren't designed in such a rush, though, so they didn't have the same reliability problems. A good ol' SVT-40 is probably all we need. -
Second "Game" listing in Steam for Experimental
Chaingunfighter replied to Frough's topic in Suggestions
It's funny, because there is actually a second listing on the Steam library for the DayZ Mod, so I don't see why this wouldn't be possible for stable and experimental releases. (They also have one for A2:OA and the A2:OA Beta, so they could definitely do it for separate installs) -
Don't bother with the DayZ wiki if you're looking for accurate information, it's disorganized as hell and a lot of the information on there is false. It's an unfortunate side-effect of the game not yet being complete, no one wants to take the time to work on it. And it's true, any time the devs comment on anything suggested to them, it gets listed somewhere on the wiki as "potential future content", like the G3A3 and FAL on the weapon's page, which have only been mentioned by Chris Torchia once as a possibility. (Not to mention someone kept editing the page insisting that a G3 and G36 are the same weapon) Back on topic, as much as I'd love to have to actually learn information on things I wouldn't be able to do well in reality, (sure, I may know the procedure, but procedure and perfection are two different things) it seems artificially inhibitive to prevent me from attempting to set up an IV, or attempting to fly a helicopter. They could easily fix that by making it a step by step process that you had to do correctly, but then it would be odd to be unable to do it before you'd read the book or if it wasn't based on prior knowledge. Also, how would the game made sure you'd read the information correctly? It'd be very odd simply being able to open a book and suddenly the knowledge pops into your head (very Elder Scrolls esque), but then having to read to the point of where the necessary information is located it'd be odd because this may have not been the first time you're opening it. So honestly it becomes either pointless (if it only needed to be read once, even if you die) or arduous (you need to re-learn certain information every time you die)

Yes, it would be nice to see one. To top it off they just need a Luger and we're good :)

Regardless of being cliche, I like the music :) If you really want cliche, try "Ride of the Valkyries". Can't get more 'overused helicopter music' than that.

That's the sole reason I don't want an Mi-24 or some sort of gunship, because it has essentially no counter but Strelas and Stingers, which would probably be super rare. The furthest I would honestly take helicopters is Mi-18s with PKMs or Hueys with M240s/M60s. Not to say playing some of the various DayZ mods where there are helicopters and jets you can go up against isn't incredibly fun, but I think gunships and fighter jets may be taking it a little too far. Besides, isn't flying in a Huey unloading an M60 while blasting Fortunate Son over a loud speaker intimidating enough :)?

The Community's List of Suggested Weapons for Dayz Standalone (Version: 1.29)

You can already find kitchen knives, rocks, and pens. Not sure if rocks and pens can be used as weapons, but I honestly doubt you'd use a ballpoint pen as a weapon. Sure, there are some pens that are made of hard and sharp metal, but most are just plastic and would break when you tried to stab someone with it, giving them a minor cut at best. Table/chair legs and glass bottles (that can be broken) sound awesome, and I could stand lamps (can't really imagine someone keeping a lamp on their back) -
I honestly doubt smoking will kill most people in the time frame that they usually survive for. Sure, there are rare exceptions, but even if they had cigarettes from the get go and your character is somehow still alive from day one and still smoking, it's only been 6 months. Sure, we could arbitrarily assume they were a lifelong smoker, but that would be incredibly pointless.

M4 and AKM respawn only in site crash
Chaingunfighter replied to dimitryrock6's topic in Suggestions
They are selective-fire rifles, not assault rifles. :) -
The next gun he's been working on is the MP-133, which is a Russian pump-action shotgun. So that's two pluses; Russian, and a type of gun we do not have yet. Besides, he just recently finished working on the P1, which is essentially a P-38 with polymer parts, and I doubt he wants to get working on a World War era German pistol right off the bat.

What's with your sig, Norris? You really cannot stand any non-Soviet weapon? (Except the C96, of course)

He may have been referring to the 9x19mm Steyr AUG Para, but those only come with 25 and 32 round magazines, so he still got something incorrect. -
Burlap sack backpack to have ever expanding slots until...
Chaingunfighter replied to tmanz's topic in Suggestions
It's an interesting idea, but the problem is that it assumes the fabric would break before it simply became (essentially) impossible to put more stuff in there. It would probably rupture if (for whatever reason) I decided to fill it with heavy rocks, but I doubt if I put as many empty tin cans as I could on the inside it would break once there was simply no more room. They could, of course, base it on a weight factor, but it would be incredibly arduous and wouldn't really add anything. That, and people would eventually figure out exactly how much they could keep and would just be sure not to go over that limit. -
Zeppelins are very susceptible to being carried away by the wind, they can be damaged incredibly easily (a large enough round could pierce straight through the balloon and ignite the hydrogen) and are unsafe (Hindenburg, and all of the previous reasons). Not to mention how monstrous the work of maintaining them is. Sure, they're arguably not as complex as helicopters or planes, but keeping them very carefully in check is super important in order to avert disaster. That, and they're really expensive and hard to find. There's a reason you've probably seen few actual zeppelins besides Goodyear blimps; they became obsolete quickly with the introduction of winged, motorized aircraft. Also, I can't imagine a small country like Chernarus would have the funds to maintain any blimps, and the ones they had would likely have been destroyed or quickly put out of use after the apocalypse. Worse still, if they had survived, the environment would have rendered them unusable at an alarming rate. Hot-air balloons are definitely plausible, but they still take a lot of time to inflate with gas that has to be specially stored and burn through it fairly quickly. Not to mention that a hot air balloon could probably be shot down by a couple of 9x19mm rounds and a whole new system of controls (not that you'd have control) and engine physics would need to be implemented. Honestly, they should just stick to helicopters, planes, and some ultralight craft. I'm sure it'd be awesome to unload an RPD onto a town from a balloon, but the work that would be needed would be way too much.

Books, for one, can be found anywhere, whereas hemp is a plant that takes a long time to grow and is selective on where it can be found. Plus, you can read the books for entertainment or to pass the time. It wouldn't really change a whole lot and isn't really common, whereas I've probably seen books almost every day of my life. Alcohol (mainly beer, wine, vodka, and rum) is another story, as it actually adds a layer of gameplay because they can be useful and can be found almost anywhere.

No, he uses the M1. The M1A1 was the one with the metal folding stock rather than the full wooden one. Regardless, it's a cool weapon, but I doubt they'll add it because there aren't a whole lot of weapons that use .30 carbine. The closest thing they could do to an M1 without making new ammo would be the Ruger Mini-14, which I actually want (5.56x45mm, but semi-automatic and very different from the AR-15 type rifles and common select-fire ones).

How difficult would you like the game to be?
Chaingunfighter replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
My ideal DayZ endgame would be finding that one ruined kitchen knife that there are only 1-2 of across the entire public hive (What's that, you want a gun? Bahahahahah). No, but seriously, the game should be a bit harder. -
Fire -> Camp -> Shack -> Log Cabbin ?
Chaingunfighter replied to Taiphoz's topic in General Discussion
I have to disagree, but then again I don't know whether locks will be implemented to begin with. I'm all for suspension of disbelief on a lot of issues (like the Mosin with the LRS and the bolt), but honestly locks that are immune to any round except for this one which just happens to work goes too far for me. For reinforced metal doors (if it goes that far), you could argue that grenades would not work because they are not that powerful of an explosion and exert their energy in all directions, whereas a shaped/breaching charge forces the energy mainly onto the door. Still, if it boils down to it, I don't want to be completely locked out of a town for the sole reason that I don't have a very rare breaching charge when I have an RPG-7 that doesn't work simply for game reasons. -
Wouldn't really fix anything for groups who could just pick up the stuff and drop it on the ground and then wait for the guy to get back. Yeah, it's time consuming, but people get their stuff back nonetheless.

Yeah, and people are suggesting that the body gets removed on the player's death, when there's absolutely no good reason for that to happen.

The Community's List of Suggested Weapons for Dayz Standalone (Version: 1.29)

How many FNX-45s have been sold to Eastern Europe in the past year it has even existed? What about AWC Amphibians, Blaser B95s, Colt Pythons, and CZ-75 SP-01 SHADOWs? Those guns probably exist there, but in immeasurably low numbers. Even the M4A1, which definitely does exist there, would still be in low amounts. Either way, it's definitely authentic, just as the Blaser is. Any B95s in that part of Europe are going to be few and far, but the double rifle itself definitely looks like something you'd find in an old farmhouse. -
While I'm generally against people suiciding to spawn near better areas/with friends, it's incredibly easy to do so by just jumping off of buildings and cliffs, so having the animation which they clearly already have in the trailer doesn't seem too problematic to me. Also, I am aware that there are glitches that can get you stuck in places, unable to escape, so suicide would be legitimate for getting out of those spots.
-
The FNX-45 and 1911 are both semi-automatic .45 handguns, and the P1 and CR-75 are both 9x19mm handguns, very similar gameplay wise and they already have all of those. Also, we only have one confirmed SMG, and only one revolver in-game. What about a lever-action rifle, semi-automatic shotgun, light-machinegun, derringer, over/under shotgun, etc? - They've had no news on any of those types of weapons beyond discussion.
-
M1903 Springfields are probably better, those saw a lot more spread around eastern Europe because they were used in both WW1 and WW2 and are legal in many more places (And popular sporterized versions were also manufactured) However, to M1 Garands, M1 Carbines, Lee-Enfields, I'd say no thanks. The Garand isn't the worst weapon they could choose (and its definitely iconic), but a KAR-98K/Gewehr 98 and an SVT-40 would be better to have. If I had to pick an American gun from WW2 to put in (besides the M1911, of course), it'd be the M3 Greasegun, since so many were made and left behind because of how cheap they were, how much longer it was in service (til the 1990s) and because they also have .45 ACP in game (vs. .30-06 and .30 Carbine)

It'd be a little too gamey, plus I don't think the devs would want to name both the AKM and M4A1 "select-fire rifle", it would just be weird. However, on hardcore servers, I think it'd be very interesting to remove names & labels completely, so you'd have to identify everything you picked up through sight and inspecting it alone. Just imagine; you've been infected by a deadly disease and you're racing against the clock to get to a clinic and get the antibiotics you need. You see a small bottle in the corner, and being in a rush without thinking, you take the small pills inside. After calming down, you read the label on the front only to discover it's poison, and die minutes later. For hardcore servers, it'd be great, but I think keeping it as is would be best for regular servers.
