    End of an era!

Steak isn't actually on the developer staff, he just works here as community support on the forum. And I like how it's being reworked. It's still going to be a unique location (although actually moreso considering its getting it's own buildings now), but it won't be a source for military gear, so you'll have to travel inland if you want to get it. I can still imagine it'll be a high traffic location, because it's an airfield and has a lot of open ground for sniping (its also in very close proximity to Berezino and spawns), but it won't be as prominent. I like how they're designing new buildings & structures for each place, it's starting to give the map a much more "alive" feel, now that we have a variety of animals and locations that have never been present. I just hope that they start to push the focus of these unique locations away from the Northeast. We have the shipwreck, re-designed NEAF and re-designed Guba/Svetlojarsk, so it would be nice to see some things placed around in-land, on the southern and western edges, and even on new islands. I'm really liking the idea of having the prison being a building on an island that's substantially off shore. Not miles away, but maybe more Alcatraz-style, where it's just far enough away from any other land so that you couldn't swim to it... or away from it. Would make a good location for some end-game loot or even a well defended base, although it'd be full of zombies since there was no where for them to go.
  2. Pretty sure, because the CZ-75 in game is called the CR75, and they're both made by the same company in real life, so I don't see why not. They wouldn't call it the CZ-527 even if it wasn't going to be the CR527, though, because CZ owns the right to the name of the CZ-527.

We NEED some way to identify heros and bandits.

Wouldn't the heroes in this situation be the ones one with the shoulder aim while the bandits would be the wannabe badasses firing from the hip? Stereotypes, I know :P Don't really want this system, anyway.

NWAF study - Redesigning Skalitsy island travelling

Nah, they decided against it because it was too close and ended up looking ugly. But they did say they planned on adding in other big islands out at sea as a way of putting high value loot far away.

NWAF study - Redesigning Skalitsy island travelling

Instead of redesigning Skalisty, why don't they just add a new island much further off shore? There's plenty of open oceanspace for them to do that, and I love Skalisty as it is, please don't change it. It's one of the few forested areas left in the game!

Great Imgur overview of the upcoming weapon CZ 527

The suppressor doesn't even work, and you still have to find one, so that's not a good reason to warrant leaving it to crash sites. Plus, there will probably be more weapons, including rifles, that can accept suppressors in the future. Hell, even the AK-74M was shown with a suppressor, but I doubt they'll leave that one to the crashsites.

Great Imgur overview of the upcoming weapon CZ 527

It actually can sport a wide variety of scopes, so yes, it can. And what do you mean useless? These weapons are awesome, and I'm sure you'll be relying on these kinds of guns more than the AKM or M4 soon enough.

Why I kill other players (outsided of defense/necesity):

I don't think DayZ was ever intended as a "we have to work together to survive" game. The game would be no more interesting if everyone got along instead of everyone just killing each other. Besides, there are plenty of people who work well together, and it goes along well with the many people who don't work together. And I don't even think it should be that type of game. The player factor and freedom is something that's always been a part of DayZ, and it shouldn't be limited to the point of; "Well, you have a choice, but it's not really a choice." Aggressive people who kill (or try to kill) everyone they see are certainly kinds of people who would exist in real life, no doubt about it. They're another obstacle and frankly it can be fun to try and deal with them sometimes. I agree that stuff should be made rarer as development goes on, although I wouldn't say to the extent that guns become essentially nonexistant.

By far the best thing added since launch

That also means things like foregrips could make it easier to swing around. It would have to be marginally so, but it would give an incentive to look for one, or use an AMD-65 over an AKM.

.380 ACP Coming To DayZ! [Torchia Reddit]

Yeah, it's really just, you have the "good" weapons (M4, Mosin, SKS, AKM), the "okay" weapons (Blaze, IZH-43 Sawed-Off, FNX, Magnum, LongHorn, 1911, Amphibia), and the "not-so-good" weapons (CR75, P1, Sporter-22, standard IZH-43) However, there's no real difference in performance with those weapons. I mean, a Mosin isn't really giving you a clear advantage over a Blaze. The only reason it's seen in higher regard is because it holds more ammunition and has more attachments. But otherwise, the Blaze will kill you much faster in a close quarters situation, because the Mosin is bolt-action, while the Blaze will throw two rounds out in super succession. The 9x19mm and .22LR weapons could probably use a buff, though, because I'd like to see more people using the CR75 & P1 as their dedicated sidearm. Granted, the FNX-45 could probably stay as the game's high-end pistol, but there's absolutely no reason to take a 9x19mm over a .45ACP at the moment. The only time I've ever seen people actually holding onto them was when I ran into a group who had a guy who's responsibility was just for carrying ammo and sidearms, and he had one of every pistol in the game at the time (1911, FNX, Magnum, CR75, and Amphibia) Otherwise, yeah, there's no real tier of weapons right now. That may be for the best at the current stage, but I don't think it's best on gameplay when even the best equipped and longest standing survivors can be matched by some newspawn with a Sporter-22. That's why we need DMRs like the M14.

Why I kill other players (outsided of defense/necesity):

You'd be surprised what some people would do. Not saying that the "murder for no reason" would be as prevalent with such a small amount of people in real life, but you never know. But part of the reason why it happens is because there is no actual risk to you if you die in-game. Sure, you might lose all of your stuff, but you're not threatened in real life. You're not taking a real life, either, so it's a lot easier on someone when they see virtual pixels over looking into someone's real eyes. The fact that it's a game is really the big difference, even if it's meant to be close to real life. I mean, you can watch horror movies that have a sense of realism and not be affected by them, but put into a situation like that in reality and you'd be scared out of your mind. Just knowing that it isn't real makes all the difference. That, and all of the loot is abundant, so it's easy enough to get 200 rounds of 7.62x51mm ammo and snipe people from a hill or rooftop.

Why I kill other players (outsided of defense/necesity):

Probably, but that's not how human mentality works. It's hard for some people to get along now, how would you expect those people to get along when they're in a relatively lawless world?

.380 ACP Coming To DayZ! [Torchia Reddit]

Well, it wasn't really a prominent argument to begin with, and most of the people who did complain about it were satiated when they made the M4 incredibly rare (although I don't think it deserves to be confined to chopper crashes). However, people still do talk about it from time to time, and I'm just slightly shocked at the fact that people can think that way to begin with It happens all the time, like with people who think that the Earth is flat. Even though it's almost always a minority of people who believe it, I still can't help but be surprised when I hear it. I'm sure you did your part in stopping them, though :)

.380 ACP Coming To DayZ! [Torchia Reddit]

This. I don't understand the reasoning when some people suggest that the devs should throw out items when they don't match a certain quota. It's not even for just items that are unimplemented or are just being discussed, it happens with stuff already in-game. There are actually people who want the devs to remove the M4A1 from the game completely because it's not made in Russia, or somewhere in Eastern Europe. Ridiculous.
  15. Yeah, it was like ~25,000-50,000 of the 500,000 that were made actually got dropped. Still, it's not an example I would use when I want to compare guns that I feel wouldn't fit the game. Then again, he's complaining about a PM-63 RAK, so it wasn't really a founded complaint to begin with. (I'm not advocating for an FP-45 at all, though. There are other, more fitting survival arms that I would pick first.)
  16. What the fuck is wrong with a PM-63? It's a very staple Cold War submachine-gun made in Poland. Seriously, it was used by Poland (duh), Bulgaria, East Germany, and even Russia. Absolutely nothing wrong with it. Blaze & Python, okay, I can see why they might be upsetting. But the PM-63? That's one of the best SMGs they could've chosen to add. Even the MP5K was probably worse than it, although it's still a perfectly fine gun to have. So seriously, what's wrong with it? And honestly, the liberator is another terrible example of something to use when you're trying to say "unrealistic firearm". Thousands of them ended up dropped in Europe, so it's not improbable to suggest that a few would've made their way into Chernarus.

One of those would be something cool to find on hunting stands or maybe even at those downed Mi-8s at pre-positioned locations (not at the "random" chopper crash-sites, though.) Obviously wouldn't be very powerful as a main weapon, but could be carried in your backpack as a backup, or survival/hunting rifle, as it was intended for. I'd actually like some unique non-military weapons that only spawned at certain locations, just so that it would keep you moving from place to place if you really wanted to see everything, rather than just running back to the same barracks or piano house on spawn. I don't want it to be taken to the point that; "The Mosin only spawns in the big blue barn, but the SKS spawns in the nearly-identical, save for color, big red barn" but it's certainly something to consider.

.380 ACP Coming To DayZ! [Torchia Reddit]

That's why I said; assuming you have the models already. I want a Taurus Judge, too :P Even though it's not something you'd likely find, it would would be a cool weapon nonetheless. They've expressed interest in adding .410 gauge, so hopefully we'll get it eventually. .45 LC isn't something I think is necessary, though. I'd rather them just make it a .45 ACP if they were to add it.

.380 ACP Coming To DayZ! [Torchia Reddit]

The problem is, most 5.45x39mm weapons are assault rifles, whereas there are tons of different 7.62x51mm weapons. It's not so much "at the expense of eastern weapons", it's really at the expense of a few specific guns with incredibly similar counterparts (not to mention most of them are already similar). Think of it like this; if you wanted a Single Action Army in the game, would you; A.] Add .45 Long Colt to the game to have it chambered realistically, at the expense of another revolver caliber with more variety (like .357) or B.] Chamber it in existing .45 ACP and have room for another caliber which is used in many more guns than .45LC. I'd choose option B, because you're getting a better variety and usage out of guns at a tiny expense of realism. It may not be the most realistic, but in the end it allows for more guns to be added without over complicating the ammunition system. (Technically you could choose option C and not have the gun at all, but assume you already had the model made and everything was set)

.380 ACP Coming To DayZ! [Torchia Reddit]

Probably, in a realistic scenario you wouldn't even find M4A1s. They do exist everywhere and they're certainly acceptable for the game, but the chances of actually finding one would be slim . And you're right, from a realism standpoint you'd probably (and I say this with caution) be better off with 5.45x39mm, but from a gameplay standpoint you can do much, much more with 7.62x51mm. (Assuming you still want guns that fire the correct calibers) There are plenty of 5.45x39 equivalents in 5.56 or 7.62x39, but you'd be much more hard pressed to find a 5.56 M60, or M14, or FN FAL, or G3, or M240, or HK-417, or PSG-1, or whatever. (Yes, I know there are some things like the Ruger Mini-14 for an M14 and SA-58 Compact for an FN FAL, but they're far different from their respective guns than per say an AK-101 from an AK-74M)

.380 ACP Coming To DayZ! [Torchia Reddit]

Not necessarily what I'm saying, but I'm just trying to point out that there's no need for 5.45x39mm in order to have the same kinds of guns. I mean, an AK-102 isn't a western gun, but it still uses 5.56x45mm. I wouldn't be opposed to having that in-game as a high-end AK. Or they could do the AK-104, which is 7.62x39mm. Still an eastern weapon, just not firing 5.45x39mm. My point is that we don't need 5.45x39mm to have intermediate-cartridge rifles & light machine guns, because there are equivalents in other calibers.

.380 ACP Coming To DayZ! [Torchia Reddit]

It's hardly used in any civilian weapons in general. There are a few civilian guns, like the SSG-82 and a couple of AR-15 variants, but most of them are military weapons. Even then, it's heavily limited; AK-74 series, AN-94 & AK-12, RPK-74 series, and the TAR-21. TAR-21s exist in 5.56x45mm, most AK-74 variants have 5.56x45mm or 7.62x39mm equivalents, as do RPKs, and the AN-94/AK-12 are not something we really need in DayZ (they aren't even that popular in Russia.)

.380 ACP Coming To DayZ! [Torchia Reddit]

He wasn't responding directly to you, as far as I'm aware. There are direct quotations for that, as you know. wrong. It's common knowledge that there are a good number of people on the forums who would love to have every caliber imaginable, but the devs have already said that they're not going to do that. So now we are trying to make compromises so we can still get some semblance of what we'd like to be in the game. Fighting back and just yelling: "NO 545x39 SHOULD BE IN THE GAME" isn't going to further our argument at this point. Maybe at a future time they'll reconsider, but it's not worth it to try and assume so.

.380 ACP Coming To DayZ! [Torchia Reddit]

Design the bullet off of that 7.62x54mmR, and do what Katana67 suggested; call it "Rimmed", or something like that. If people are still getting confused at that point, all of the blame goes on them. It'd be pretty easy to differentiate, unlike something around "9x19mm" and "9x18mm", which look the same if you don't look close enough or read over it too quickly. Edit: Apparently the forum decided to post this as another post instead of adding it as an edit to my previous post.... Ugh. Honestly, I think we can live without 5.45x39mm. It's somewhat difficult to suggest not adding the AK-74M, especially considering they already made a model for it and everything, but it definitely would not be necessary. For the sake of limiting calibers, it's probably something that isn't needed. There aren't a whole lot of 5.45x39mm guns (it's hardly used in any civilian weapons), and almost every 5.45x39mm gun has a variant in 7.62x39mm. AKS-74U? AKMSU. AK-74M? AK-103/104. RPK-74? RPK-47 and RPD. If you really wanted to get into the semantics of things, you could simply Add wooden furniture attachments to an AK-100 rifle. There, now you have your AK-74.
