The Community's List of Suggested Weapons for Dayz Standalone (Version: 1.29)
Chaingunfighter replied to alexeistukov's topic in Suggestions
The PP-19-01 Vityaz is a 9x19mm gun, so they already have the caliber necessary to add it. There's also a .380 Bizon variant called the Bizon 2-02, and it's nearly identical save for the fact that it's .380/9x17mm. Granted, yes, you're more likely to see a 9x18mm Bizon, Makarov, and PM-63, but for development reasons .380 Auto gives much more variety and still allows for variants of the weapons people are asking for. You can still get a Makarov, it's just an IJ-70, you can still get the RAK, it's just a PM-73, you can still get the Bizon, it's just in .380, etc. And honestly, there's no real major differences between any of those guns and their "standard" counterparts, save for the Makarov IJ70 having black furniture. With .380, in addition to those guns above, you can also have a CZ-82, Vz61, Walther PPK/S, MAC-11, Beretta 84S, etc. So sure, it's not exactly the type of firearm people are asking for, but it's a much better development choice regarding gameplay. -
Well, it was just a name given to it by some of the survivors, it wasn't actually the officially designated name like H1N1 is for "Swine Flu". I'm fine with the virus having a name, and people can call it whatever they want (although I do think "Green Mountain Virus" isn't the best one) but I think the lore should just keep mentions of it ambiguous. I'm fine for a fully developed background of Chernarus being created, but the whole mystery and free thought you can have should still be a dominant force, if not the predominant one. Plus, leaving it loose, from a development standpoint, makes it a lot easier to add new things without breaking the lore. I mean, it's fiction, so you can do anything you want with it, even if it defies reality, but once you start violating your own story then it gets bad.

What Weapons Warrant Being Hyper-Rare and/or Regulated?
Chaingunfighter replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
Then you'd better get used to fistfighting for most of the game after a few weeks/months when most guns and even melee weapons start to get ruined and never respawn. -

Ah, okay. It was just odd seeing you flip out over something that should be fine, but all's well. Just do your research AHEAD of time next time :P -
The Community's List of Suggested Weapons for Dayz Standalone (Version: 1.29)

Highly doubt the M1911A1 will come considering the Kimber Warrior ingame is called the "1911". We might, and I say might, get an old variant, but it's pretty unlikely, and pointless to suggest. The Makarov is coming, although it's going to be a .380 Izhmash Makarov IJ70, which goes inline with gameplay better, as .380 has a wider variety of applications than 9x18mm and can be used in most 9x18mm firearms (PM63, Bizon, etc.) in addition to plenty of other ones (Vz61 Skorpion, Walther PPK, MAC-11, etc.) Still don't get why you don't like the PM73 RAK, though. -
CARS SUGGESTION (REALISTIC AND POSSIBLE)
Chaingunfighter replied to DOMINATING's topic in Suggestions
Pre-WW2 vehicles? There are relatively few pre-ww2 vehicles still running today, even in places like the United States, and the apocalypse hasn't happened. Most older cars require a lot of special care to keep running, otherwise they just become junk buckets rusting out where they sit, and the apocalypse would do no good to any of them that happened to still be working inside of a random barn or farm. They could make a unique model for one that spawns somewhere, but I don't think it would be worth the time just to add it when there are a good number of other vehicles with a larger utility you could add. -
Green Mountain is just a radio station with a few military buildings inside a compound, there's no actual ingame suggestion that the infection (Not necessarily a virus, could be some sort of parasite/bacteria/fungi) had anything to do with Green Mountain other than there being people executed there. Now, it's definitely interesting and creepy, but I'd rather the background of the infection be left ambiguous. Players can create their own story, and if they want to believe that there's some secret lab at Green Mountain, then that's perfectly fine. But let's not just start throwing around names because Green Mountain is somewhat creepy.

Most of the items you could probably still find as leftovers from Germany in WW2 wouldn't have ever borne the swastika anyway. Wehrmacht helmets typically did not, and most of their firearms were also not branded with them. Uniforms/outfits and Nazi armbands typically did not survive the war because they rot away much faster and not too many people had an interest in stealing dead mens' clothing. I mean, the map doesn't need to be littered with WW2-era stuff anyway. Wehrmacht helmets would be cool, and I wouldn't be opposed to a KAR-98K, MP40, Luger P08, or Mauser C96 (even though the latter pistols were mostly out of service). Other than that it's just up to the devs.

Why Randomly Spawning All Over The Map Is A Bad Idea
Chaingunfighter replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
You'd still have people who are at high value locations within minutes of spawning, even if they were 2km away from the nearest base, whereas someone else could be lost in the woods for much longer until they stumble upon someone who was fully geared because they got lucky. There are plenty of high value locations on the west coast, so all you'd have to do would be spawn in the west and you'd already have 1/3 of the journey to run. That's the problem. It's not like most people would kill themselves until they're only 5 feet away. -
I'm fine with an animation being made, but requiring a screwdriver is just unnecessary. Hell, you don't even need a screwdriver to install many of the attachments; M4 Handguards don't need any tools to be attached, in most cases (save for ones where you have different length handguards). Also, you don't really need a screwdriver to unscrew an ACOG or Aimpoint off of a rail, although it does speed up the process. On the other hand, many of the attachments, like the PU Scope for the Mosin or SKS, cannot be added without special mounts, which require more than just a screwdriver. Screwdriver requirements wouldn't really add any depth, they'd just make it a more tedious process and aren't entirely realistic in of themselves. Plus, screwdrivers are really common, so its not like adding attachments would be difficult for someone who was able to acquire them to begin with. And at this point, I highly doubt we're going to see the attachment system be taken further on pre-existing weapons. Disassembly of the M4 is likely as far as its going to go, so there's not going to be any shortening it down to the gas block, upper receiver, lower receiver, trigger mechanism, etc. I mean, it's a possibility, but they'd basically have to remake the models and I'm not entirely sure it would add much to the game.

Deer Stands - What Do You Want To Spawn There?
Chaingunfighter replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
If a hunter's going to leave his regular gear behind, I fail to see why an IZH-43, Mosin, Blaze 95, Sporter 22, or even an SKS/upcoming CR527 shouldn't spawn there. Not saying they should be common, but they should have a reasonable chance to spawn there. I mean, if you get caught up there and have to get down, you might not have enough time to sling your rifle and you just jump and make a run for it. -
NO. A FRESH SPAWN WITH A WRENCH SHOULD BE COMPLETELY 100% MAXIMUM EQUAL TO A GUY WITH AN M249 IN A CHOPPER!!!!11111one MELEE NEEDS TO BE ANTI AIR WEPAONS!!!!!111111 That's the logic of people here, sometimes.

IEDs are a cool idea, and some improvised grenades are already planned. I'd also love to see some landmines that you can place down near roads or in fields, waiting for an unsuspecting vehicle or player to come across. M-18 Claymores would also be great, although they'd have to be very rare, since you can remotely detonate them. They'd be a great end-game helicopter crashsite spawn, though.
-
Ah, okay. I must've misread or misinterpreted what you were saying then. It does bother me a lot when people suggest that zombies need to be more threatening than other players with guns. They want a game where everyone is essentially forced to work together by everything but their own free will.

Polar bears confirmed as hostile wildlife -
I don't think it was ever the intention of the devs to try and enforce team play. Granted, the game will get much more difficult, but it really bothers me when people try and suggest that everyone should HAVE to get along to survive, with zombies being the #1 threat.
-
Pretty much. I mean, I'll never deny that a highly detailed zombie survival mmo with a massive world and thousands of players would be awesome, but that's not what DayZ was intended to, will, or should be. Some day games like that we'll exist, but going on the forum and suggesting they essentially redo the entire game (again) as an entirely new thing is a very stupid endeavor. And you're exactly right, they devised a small server model. Although they have actually done a lot so that they could make the player caps as large as possible, it's nowhere near the thousands and probably won't be even by release. Even on the experimental 100 player servers the map still felt pretty full, but multiply that by 10 and it will be hard to believe that an apocalypse even happened with so many survivors.
-
It would be cool, and the technology certainly exists, but at this point in time it would be monstrously expensive to do. Remember that the devs have to build the entire map, which isn't just a big plain of space as in EVE, which would take a ton of time (a reasonably sized map that could handle tens of thousands of players would need to be exponentially larger (around 40-50 times) and would need to have all of the detail that the regular map does. This also means that tons of new building and environmental models and textures would need to be developed in order to keep the map from just being a monumental redundancy. That also means that a gigantic navmesh would have to be developed in order for zombies and animals to have proper pathfinding, which would take a very long time to generate.) Optimization would also be very problematic. Having 40,000 players on one map is going to put a HUGE strain on the server and on the client, even if the client is not actively rendering them. That's not to mention all of the zombies that would have to be added, which would still be a nightmare on the server. And let's not forget high population areas; in the current game, Novodmitrovosk with only 15-20 people on a 40 pop server can run like crap on some computers, imagine a city that size with 600 people, out of thousands on the entire map. No thanks. And what about the bugs? A game of this scale and on DayZ's engine would surely be riddled with them, and the scale would make it very hard for people to find. And the costs of just building everything, let alone running it, would be immense. Something a company like Bohemia would not be able to easily handle. What you're suggesting is that a small group of lumberjacks should build the Great Pyramids. It's not going to happen.
-
Or the scopes could just be a rarer find. I mean, I'd certainly be fine if the G3 had limited customization, because it would definitely be on the lower end of battle rifles and wasn't ever built to accept tons of attachments, but scopes for the G3 do exist. It's not like the fact that the G3 is semi-auto will make a huge difference anyway. A good sniper shouldn't need to take multiple shots to take someone out, and the G3's hefty recoil will ensure that just spraying long range will not be effective. It wouldn't be a long range weapon like the Mosin anyway. The best it would be is a DMR, and you'd have to work to make it such. That's why there's no real problem in having a variety of attachments for simple guns, like the AK. Yes, you can take the time to build up your rifle, but there are also higher grade weapons that do that for you. That's the balance.
-
The MAC-11 was the variant that had semi-auto versions, but I don't see any reason to have a semi-auto one ingame. On the other hand, a select-fire MAC-10 would be a great .45 ACP submachine-gun to have (basically the game's .45 counterpart of a .380 Vz.61 Skorpion). The AR-18 is wholly unnecessary because you don't see a lot of them anywhere, even in the US. A better semi-automatic .223 carbine would be the Ruger Mini-14. Not saying I don't like it, I'm okay with any weapons the devs add, this included. And I'd say no thanks to the hellfire trigger groups. They aren't compatible with every weapon and aren't known for working very well. They're generally intended for AR-15s, which wouldn't be as prevalent in Chernarus as in the United States. I mean, a semi-automatic AR-15 would be fine to have in DayZ, but you're more likely to find an actual M4A1 than you are one of those, and for gameplay reasons, it should stay that way.
-
It has realistic elements, but its not simulating the apocalypse. A simulator would be trying to make it as realistic as possible, something that DayZ does not always do, in the interest of good gameplay. For example; you only need to "apply" a splint in order to "fix" a broken bone, whereas a simulation would actually need you to use the splint and nurse the wound for weeks/months until it healed. Now, obviously, that wouldn't be fun or interesting at all, considering that requiring a splint or morphine is more realistic than some games which only require "medkits" or don't have in depth injuries at all. However, that does not make it a simulation. Game with realistic elements =/= simulator.
-
DayZ isn't a simulator.
-
There isn't "TOO MUCH military stuff", though. You're saying that the variety of gear that you could classify as "military", even as arbitrary of a classification that is, should be limited, rather than making the items themselves rarer. Having a bow made of durable fiberglass and industrially made cable =/= Far Cry 3 Predator Bow with C4 arrows and a Holo Sight. Also, RIS weapon flashlights being endgame content? LOL.
-
Combat knives, body armor, and vests are fairly standard military issue gear, there's nothing over-the-top about them. Most attachments you see are also fairly common ones. And I wouldn't say adding a drum mag or a bipod to AKs is silly, considering that's what is done all the time in the real world. Most of the time nowadays you don't see original, unmodified AKMs or even AK-74s being standard issue, at least in standing armies. Otherwise, you may as well call every modified AKM/AK-47 silly. I'm not saying we should be finding gas masks and full kit attachments everywhere, in fact, I support them being rare, but there's nothing wrong with having a ton of them in the game. It's just not fair to call it over the top, because it really isn't. But that's besides the point. Compound bows are not in service in any standard military on the planet as it is. There's hardly anything "high-tech", and nothing "military" about them. I fail to see why a better quality but rarer bow that cannot be crafted shouldn't be available.
-
A compound bow fits the setting perfectly fine, and I've never heard anyone start using the term "tacticool" for bows. "Already too much tacticool stuff" So, an M4 and a few pistols are "too tacticool" for the game?
