Unless you went out of your way to over saturate the spray paint on the weapon's mechanics themselves, I doubt it. With certain guns like the M4A1, maybe, but for something as simple as a bolt-action rifle, especially a reliable one like the Winchester, I doubt you're going to have any major problems. It wouldn't be good long term to do an unprofessional job, but considering that DayZ is a game (i.e. your guns aren't with you forever) and character lifespan is fairly short, you wouldn't notice any major problems directly stemming from the paint work itself for months or years (or with guns like the AKM and such, probably never.) Maybe they could have spraypainted guns degrade slightly faster, but honestly it seems unnecessary to me. As for the OP, I think it's pretty clear that we can't do it yet because the new modular color implementation system that will allow them to replace having to create separate textures for every painted model is still being worked on. When it's done it'll presumably be usable on most weapons and your color palette will be far more than just green or black. If camouflage is really a concern the ghillie gun wrap works wonders for now - sure, the wood you can still see on the rifle might be slightly more visible, but honestly if someone is going to notice that much then they've probably seen you first.

A post apocalyptic sandbox like DayZ with all of the proper survival mechanics but various terminator models instead of zombies would actually be really cool (although very difficult if we were limited to the current selection of weapons and items.) There was a Terminator ArmA 3 mod in the works awhile back that had some pretty good progress and fit better (because it has that futuristic vibe, and with HK-Drones and HK-Tanks and whatnot you'd need heavy weapons and vehicles that aren't present in DayZ) but it's been dark for some time now.

The Community's List of Suggested Weapons for Dayz Standalone (Version: 1.29)
Chaingunfighter replied to alexeistukov's topic in Suggestions
What purpose, besides as variety, does the AK-47 serve at this point? It's pretty needless with the AKM, and while it might be cool later it serves absolutely no purpose now. Most Eastern European countries have gotten rid of their AK-47s by this point anyway; AKMs are still kept in reserve and for second-line troops, but the actual AK-47 and its derivatives are more common in Africa, the MIddle East, Eastern Asia, etc than they are in Europe nowadays. There's no real need for any civilian versions of the AK platform specifically - a 7.62x39mm Saiga would be far more appropriate, although really the SKS makes other civilian semi-auto 7.62x39 rifles pretty pointless. I'm doubtful that the folding-stock series of AK rifles will ever be separate to those that can swap them all, and the underfolding stock used on the AKS-47 is in the game, usable on all AKs. The AN-94, at this point, would only make the slightest sense at helicopter crashsites. There's no way the police or general military would have them, and considering that even the special forces groups that do have them rarely use them, it's hard to justify. An AK-12 would be better, IMO, because it's actually going into trials with the general Russian military as well as its SFs on a wide scale. The AK-74M model you heard of became the AK-101. It's a pretty simple model change that can be done at any point, although I'm not sure it will. RPK-74s and RPKs are fine, but neither is in service in Russia anymore. Only the RPK-74M still sees use. The RPD is okay but it's not based on the AK platform in any way. AS VAL is pretty needless because it's just a fiull auto VSS Vintorez with a pistol grip rather than wooden stock. OTs-14s would be cool. -
Literally - Just over 2285 copies assuming it's a fully refurbished T-72 ($80,000 USD) and alpha price remains consistent ($34.99 USD.) In actuality I can't imagine a huge portion of that came from game sales at all; BIS has a much larger business range than just DayZ.
-
You can spawn the wrecks in the editor, although it's just one of the copied models. I definitely think they should do something closer to the present day, while trying to avoid inaccuracies (like arming the ENTIRE US Army with SCARs or Russian forces with AK-107s when only the SFs should have them.) Though a 2010s game is preferable to the Cold War IMO - T72s are still prolific in modern warfare and a game in the present day could really show off the differences between advanced newer tech while still leaving older stuff relevant and deadly.

so how good is the UMP 45 in 0.58 stable?
Chaingunfighter replied to claws4life's topic in General Discussion
MP5 has a higher ROF but the UMP45 is instakill pretty much every time - it's far better if you have ammo for it. -
No doubt it would be cool if it weren't such a technical challenge, but it is. Every upper body animation in the game would need to be changed even just slightly for lefties, and that's a pretty substantial workload in itself. I can't really see it working in general play though, because if it's done realistically and not just by mirroring then people using their left hand will be at a disadvantage using most firearms and whatnot - and I can bet that few would actually choose that option if it were optional, and if it was a 10% chance to players then they might just commit suicide to respawn if it had real disadvantages. Definitely not a bad idea at all but I don't see it paying off for all the work it needs.

Hand wraps, gloves, knuckle-dusters and punching potentially hurting your hands
Chaingunfighter replied to Roshi (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
You can still walk around with a fractured leg, too. It's not like in ArmA where you're forced to do the slow crawl whenever you move no matter what. Your abilities would just be impaired; more shaking on your guns/melee weapons, less damage on melee and risk of further injury, etc. I'm not sure what they could do to make your driving worse, though, but it is possible to drive with a fractured hand, so that may not need to change. -
Player stats seem to be slow to update, so with all of that constant raining my guess is that you just got hypothermia very quickly and the game failed to tell you, because it happens in less than 10 mins IIRC. Granted, I haven't had any problems with warming up on the fireplace, so that may have been unique to your situation.

Well then it just becomes a question of how much brightness & gamma should be limited, because it's quite arbitrary at that point. Regardless, people with brighter monitors will always be able to cheat to some degree because they could still set it higher than intended. Just like with 3PP, so long as it exists and the camera allows you to see your body away from your eyes, no matter what they do to limit it people will be able to peak, even if it's extremely limited.
-
Well, the difference between the two is the (subjective) difference of how impactful each group is - people that abuse their gamma/brightness settings are really only getting a slight advantage, and it becomes detrimental to people that need higher gamma and brightness settings to see because of their monitor. Unlike those settings, hacking very rarely has legitimate means and a major negative impact on regular players, so there are comparatively fewer downsides to implementing an anti-cheat system than there are limiting game settings (because, as I said, there really aren't any legitimate players getting kicked by the anti-cheat [though false positives do happen, no doubt], whereas adjustable brightness and gamma is a necessity to a good number of players.)

Improvised camo backpack + color variations of the Plate carrier
Chaingunfighter replied to jayfkay (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
I'm sure that this will happen at some point, because with the new color system (that the dying you can do in barrels showcases) they'll be able to change the color to anything they want - green, gray, black, brown, whatever. It would definitely be nice, mainly because the tan color just doesn't really work in most parts of Chernarus (though I like variety - having some "out of place" [in color, not realistically] camouflage like the winter hunting clothes and desert uniforms is great.) -
Hunting Scope for What Gun?
Chaingunfighter replied to youngjediknight's topic in General Discussion
Right now it's pretty much something you take only until you find a better gun, although the sawed-off version is a decent sidearm. Attachments are still being ironed out and as we've seen they're still adding more, so some day we might be able to do more with it. Remember - It's a single shot 7.62x39mm gun though, it's not meant to be all that great. -

weapons with attachments taking up more room
Chaingunfighter replied to billyangstadt's topic in Suggestions
the PM63/73's stock is retractable. I don't think changing their position is a planned feature, because they'd also have to do it with the MP5K's stock, the standard M4A1 stock, 3/5 of the AK stocks, and the UMP45 stock. However, I don't think it's an unreasonable feature to have certain attachments affect the weapon's size. If it happens it'll probably happen later in the game when all of the attachments and weapons are completed so that they know exactly what needs to be modified and what can be left alone (like the Mosin 9130, because you're not fitting one into a backpack) -
With you on this. Namalsk had them and it was absolutely awesome on Namalsk, but that's where it should stay. I really just can't see it fitting in with the way Chernarus is now, especially considering there's no hint of nuclear conflict at all. I'm completely down for mods to have this, but it just wouldn't work in the vanilla game.
-
Well, yeah. You know there's a problem when half the time criminals are caught and "dealt with", it's by off-duty officers who just happened to be there, and the rest seems to be by the military police force. And when that's still not enough so they deploy soldiers and special ops in poor areas because it's that bad. I wish you good luck in your country, because even though it's very nice in many places, you can't be too sure anywhere. But anyway, this is a bit off topic. Brazil =/= Compensators :P
-
It's a shame because Brazil's extreme gun regulation has done almost nothing to stop people from getting them. I remember watching some video where Brazilian police seized like 11 different Glocks from someone's car at a traffic stop (and that probably wasn't all they had, either)

Supressing voice-chat outside of Dayz (Skype, Mumble, TS3, etc.)
Chaingunfighter replied to S3V3N's topic in General Discussion
Well, technically if we're going for realism then everyone would need to learn to speak Russian (or Czech) and only speak that :P -

Chaingunfighter replied to S3V3N's topic in General Discussion
How reliable would that actually be, though? If they had a helmet or really any kind of headgear that obscures that region at all, it'd render your detection method useless because you couldn't see it. Also, having the program running in the background doesn't inherently mean that it's in use, so you might have some guy on his own that looks like a TS guy and you avoid him, when in reality the process was just not dead on his computer. And, of course, it'd still mean the devs would have to find every possible outlet of outside communication on your computer and account for that, and with all of the ways that exist it's pretty much impossible to be sure. The reality is that it's not 100% impossible to do something about it; of course there are ways to deal with it. It's just that it gets to a point where the amount of work you're trying to justify to fix the "problem" (that many agree is not a problem) outweighs the benefits, and the amount it actually does to stop the problem can't really be quantified because of all the ways to bypass it. -
As Gews posted, there's an X26 Taser coming. As far as I'm aware there's no such thing as a "Taser Sniper Rifle." There are specialty weapons like the X12 Shotgun, which would be okay, but also redundant because we have one coming as is.

Seems like a lot of people aren't actually answering what OP was asking. Quite a few of the buildings aren't to scale with the player model, and although you can enter them the size of furniture relative to your character shows. Unfortunately the problem with this is that the vast majority of buildings on the map were designed in ArmA 2 and not made to be enterable, so in order to keep the map the same they had to modify existing models. There aren't really any good solutions to the issue because it's relatively minor. Making major changes to either would cause problems; buildings would all need to be reset and adjusted with their scaling changed and changing the player model itself would require everything to be changed.
-
Maybe for certain individuals, but really; anyone who's actually looking for it won't be stopped by such a screen. It only really helps for those who accidentally stumble upon it, and it's far more likely for kids to happen upon random websites on the internet then it is for them to accidentally pay $35 for a Steam game (and keep in mind, it actually does have age verification.) Regardless, there are going to be kids playing the game, no matter what you do. You might only experience the constant deathmatch and KoS side of DayZ, but that doesn't make it any less of a sandbox. Even if "everyone" makes the same choice, they're still choosing. (It's not nearly everyone anyway - I've had plenty of nonviolent, interesting encounters with people.) The big difference between DayZ and regular shooters is that you actually have to work (though right now it's really just spending time, eventually it will be difficult) to become well equipped and being killed actually has consequences. In Call of Duty and Battlefield you're handed all of your stuff, you have instant respawn, and action is constant and instantaneous. Granted, I agree that spending your entire time playing DayZ just to deathmatch in clan battles is a waste, but it's not the same as other games. I'm not completely opposed to the idea of taking care of something that's supposed to guide you morally; my problem comes with making it mandatory, especially the way you suggested it, where you are absolutely forced to protect this child every time you play - if they die or you kill them, you automatically die / if you kill another person, their kid attacks you, and if you kill their kid, their kid kills you, and if you defend yourself, you kill yourself later. It's forcing a complete PvE gameplay style on everybody all the time, and to most people it'd just be a liability rather than something they cared about. The idea of having dogs, horses, and other tameable creatures has been discussed and is part of the future plans as far as I'm aware. Like I said, I'm not against the idea, and I think it'd add another layer of gameplay with tradeoffs, where your dog per say has a keen sense of smell and of course will defend you, but you have to feed and protect it, and it's optional (you have to work to get it, rather than being forced to protect it from the get go.) If it's a survival simulator then the base game should revolve around mechanics of the individual; in a real world scenario plenty of people would go rogue, abandon their sense of morality, and certainly not everybody would be trying to protect kids, even if they were a good person.
-
'underaged kids' is an oxymoron :P The most they could do to "verify" that children were playing is to include some DoB system and as has been seen they never make any difference. And if some person just quickly clicked through the age verification system, would they then not be allowed to change their character? It's a semi-interesting idea to allow people to play as children, but it'd most certainly have to be 100% optional. Also, what the fuck? No. What kind of "sandbox" would DayZ become if you were forced to protect some incompetent AI character? I don't think anyone would want to play a game where that was forced upon them, especially if it meant they were guaranteed to die if they made any choices at all (with the amount of glitch deaths that happen to players in DayZ, imagine what it'd be like with AI)

Well, PvP is just the concept of you, the player, in competition with other players to complete the goal of the game, which in the case of DayZ is to survive as long as possible. So long as there are limited resources and players can deal damage to each other, PvP will be a thing. Generally most people associate it with the "shoot everyone you see, organize clan deathmatches in Elektro, etc" crowd - I'm not too fond of that specifically (though if that's how people want to play then so be it, there's really not much that can be done to limit it other than reduce resources anyway.) However, the concept of players generally being the main threat to your survival is absolutely something I support.
