cell phone system (similar to gta)

Doesn't need it - they utilize satellites, hence why hikers often carry a satellite phone in case of emergencies - they can be used practically anywhere. Granted, after enough time, satellites do lose their orbital path and need to be re-adjusted or replaced, but this takes years, especially for military satellites.

    Claymores/IED's/Mines

Why do you feel the need to capitalize almost every word in your sentences? Seriously, you only need to do it to the first letter and any proper nouns, "It Doesnt have to Be Like this All The TIme". Part of survival is inevitably going to involve killing others - including the placing of traps and other defenses, and taking out vehicles/infrastructure. We're not civilians, nor soldiers - we're just survivors, probably of various backgrounds (the avatar is intended to represent you) making do in the world. Some people survive by looting and scavenging, others live off the land, and still more take what they can from others. It's absolutely realistic to be finding explosives, grenades are standard issue gear in practically every military on the planet. Mines, claymores, and other explosives are also fairly common. Sure, I don't "need" grenades to survive, but with that logic we don't need AKs, or M4s, or anything but hunting rifles and shotguns (Why don't we just remove every gun but the Sporter-22, IZH-43, and CR-527?) How improvised grenades are any better/more realistic than military issue grenades is beyond me - it seems you just dislike the stigma of something being involved with military usage, not actually how realistic nor beneficial to gameplay it'd be. It's honestly doubtful that you'd have explosives and mines everywhere, even grenades as they are spawn incredibly rarely, and they don't see a ton of usage. But yes, it's understandable that people would place mines, IEDs, and other weapons at hot spots, like gas stations, highways, or major cities - just as is done in real life. You should need to be careful when driving in a high-traffic area, because it'd be quite dumb if all you had to worry about was some guy spraying an AK at you from a rooftop, rather than something that poses a real threat to your success.

US clothing, Vests and Backpacks at crashsites

It's actually no longer an AK-74M at this point - now it's just going to be an AK-74 with wooden furniture, and they've decided to keep the AK-101 as a separate weapon (even less likely than the 74M) The 74M I wouldn't say is any less likely than the M4A1 - both Russia and the US invaded, the 74M is the standard service rifle of the Russian Armed Forces, (regular AK-74s were also standard for the CDF), so I actually believe you'd find more AK-74Ms with polymer furniture than M4A1s, simply because of the region. It doesn't matter at this point, because the AK-74 that's being added instead is probably the most realistic AR lore and realistic wise, save maybe the AKM. (and either way, you can interchange the parts on the AKs to an unrealistic, but necessary degree, so you can really have a plethora of impossible/nonstandard AKs - say an AK-74 with the AKMS underfolding stock or an AKM with a side-folding stock)

US clothing, Vests and Backpacks at crashsites

The French Army Special Forces Brigade uses the M4 Carbine. (They also have the M16A2, Colt Model 727, and HK-416, which are very similar) Granted, it's not the M4A1, but most US military units also use the M4, the M4A1 is relegated to specialized units across the board. We can't have every gun ever made in the game, but this wasn't even suggesting adding guns - just standard combat uniforms, vests, and MOLLE gear, many of which are popular far beyond the US (even Ukrainian rebels have been seen using US surplus). I'm not saying we need to have full-on US special operations gear, but it'd be nice if they at least completed the context of US forces being present, because it's quite clear they were (even if not during the outbreak, there are still HMMWVs all over, and US helicopter crashsites.) US intervention in Chernarus did occur during ArmA 2, and it's been confirmed by the devs that said intervention did occur in the DayZ timeline. We're getting an AK-74, AKS-74U, SVD, MP-133 (in TWO variants, one of which is already in experimental), and other European firearms (like the AUG), I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for US guns. Asian weapons would be cool, especially some of the Chinese copies of Cold War weapons. I'm actually really fond of those Thompson copies, that, despite being of lower quality, were surprisingly popular in the east during their time period.

US clothing, Vests and Backpacks at crashsites

I love when people say "Go play ArmA", acting like that's a valid response to people suggesting anything not Russian. We have enough US shit in DayZ, we don't need more. If you want US stuff so bad, then play ARMA or something like that. But if a UN mission is sent in a post-soviet country, it might as well use French or German equipment. The only gear that's used by notable quantities in the US military is the M4A1, M67 Grenade, M84 Flashbang, and the generic ballistic helmet, and it's not like those are over the top items that don't exist anywhere else in the world. UN missions would use whatever the gear of the country the peacekeepers were from was, and oftentimes that means the US (Chernarus lore does have a US-backed invasion), so I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest standard US gear that spawns at helicopter crashsites (making it highly rare). And it's not like this stuff is spawning everywhere - the majority of items will still be Eastern European and items that otherwise fit the setting, but that doesn't mean to dis-include everything that wouldn't be common.

    Suggestions about Payday Masks

The only thing I'd really be able to get behind would be adding the Chains mask, simply to complete the set. It's already quite odd that you can find them given the environment, starting to add things like a Deathstroke mask would be going way over the top (not to mention DC would flip their shit over people using it in a non-DC game.) The available selection of masks could probably be increased, but they don't need any more that are explicitly from PayDay. Though I think the popular consensus on the forum would simply be to remove them from the game (not realizing that as a content creator, it's extremely frustrating to do something like that)
  7. Nope, definitely not fake. Like most weapons in DayZ, this was a weapon taken from ArmA 2: Operation Arrowhead, although this only spawns on custom mods, not on the "official" version. It's a gold .45 ACP Taurus Tracker 455, used by Col. Aziz, leader of the Takistani military at the time of Operation Arrowhead. The regular variant appeared in the official mod. Personally I see no reason to add it, but the Taurus Tracker would be a cool .45 ACP revolver (we don't have one yet) and it could be a homage to the mod, and possibly A2, if they incorporated a gold version. You'd still far sooner see a Gold AK than you would any other kind of weapon.

Some ideas for weapons and additions.

I doubt we'll see an M-200 Intervention, and the devs have expressed discourse at the idea of adding .44 Magnum, so don't expect the Anaconda. I wouldn't expect the KRISS Vector either, despite it being a personal favorite of mine. However, I do believe the AUG para would really augment the AUG well  (By the way, the S&W Model 22 is a .45 ACP revolver, not .44 Magnum)

    ballistic knife

The "Ballistic Knives" we think of were mostly made in the US and tested by the CIA during the 70s and 80s, there were no knives of that kind (knife launched) actually used by the Soviet Union (beyond experimentation), despite what Call of Duty and Deadliest Warrior have made some people believe. The only real use of these in Russia was by underground crime syndicates, but even these were just rudimentary and improvised - there was no real set design. However, the Russians did create a "ballistic" knife of sorts - the NRS-2. Unlike the spring knives we think of, the NRS-2 shoots out a 7.62x42mm SP-3 from the knife's handle, designed for emergency survival situations. These are still issued to modern Spetsnaz today as personal defense weapons, although in what quantity I'm not exactly sure. I could stand behind them adding these as an Mi-8 crashsite spawn item, though the fact that it uses a unique caliber is somewhat detrimental (they could just make it a one-time use thing). Beyond that, Katana67 made his point - firearms and knives simply work better when in their own roles, not combined.

Gold AKM for Loot Management System?

Now, before you throw a fit and yell; "THIS ISNT COD OR SOME FPS", just hear me out. With the new loot management system coming at some point, any object the devs choose to limit will only be able to exist in the set quantity on any server. (although no word on how it will affect private hives exists, but I digress) So, I was thinking, a good pioneer item for this new system would be; An AKM with a gold plated metal parts Those are some gold polished AK rifles (not sure if they're AKMs or AK47s) seized during the 2003 invasion of Iraq. As ridiculous as having gold-plated weaponry is, it seems to be very popular among different guerrilla or militia leaders across the globe. Hell, even ArmA 2 had an easter egg AKMS with gold plating. Similar to the 1911 Engraved, the Gold-Plated AKM would function identically to the standard AKM (Fuck Far Cry 2's 100x durability AK) and could probably accept all of the parts and attachments (Tacticool Railed Gold AK with a Bipod anyone? Gibonez?) There's nothing overpowered about having the Gold AK (in fact it would be more likely to expose you with its shiny colors) but it could be an awesome status symbol. I mean, being one of the 100 people in all of DayZ to have one would be pretty damn cool. It's not anything game changing like Thermal or NVG scopes, or DMRs, or GPMGs, or Rocket Launchers, etc, just a reskin of a pre-existing weapon. And they're very plausible for the game's setting. Something like this would be a great way to enter into the new loot management system, so we could really see how well it plays out without adding major game altering items. Opinions?

Gold AKM for Loot Management System?

Not sure exactly how far out that is.... Also, no, because the instant you suggest anything that's been built west of Poland, post-1991, has a variety of attachments, uses a round more powerful than 7.62x54mmR, is a sniper rifle, DMR, explosive, machine gun, or non-AK assault rifle, is not strictly civilian/low-end military, or is prominently featured in other video games (i.e. camos, like gold, and certain guns), people jump on the "This isn't CoD/Battlefield/ArmA/other!!!!" I'm (almost) completely certain that the devs won't add this, but I still don't see the problem with them, at least realistically speaking, if there were truly only a couple hundred in the entire game.

Status Report - Week of 13 Oct 14

I was just pointing out that they could've done far more with available guns like the M4A1 than they have. I never once stated that they shouldn't expand on other aspects or make universal attachments. The only optic I feel that's absolutely necessary would be some sort of CQB sight, like an Eotech, though others are welcome. However, yes, any gun with a 20mm rail system or mountable attachment should take them, just as the MP5K and M4A1 do now. Laser sights, while useful for helping you aim, are primarily intended to help mark targets, a use which would be no different in DayZ. In instances where the crosshair is gone, however, the dot could be more helpful than you give it credit for (not to mention you have to be pretty stupid to use a laser in an instance in which people could easily spot it) Like the flashlight, I'd assume you could attach it to the RIS of any available gun, I don't know why it would be M4 specific. People extremely overestimate the value of grenade launchers (and explosives in general), however powerful of an asset they are. Granted, I don't want it to be common, but an M203 shouldn't be so rare you never see one. The AUG is a 5.56x45mm weapon. Yes, there are 9x19mm and 7.62x51mm conversions (among others), but I'm assuming that because they've talked about adding the HBAR variant, and simply because it's the most common form, the one we'll be getting is the 5.56x45mm version. Steyr AUG rifles do have threaded barrels and are capable of accepting suppressors. The threads are slightly different to the AR-15's, but the difference is so minor that making a specific suppressor for each is pointless. Though very few guns actually have suppressors right now - the M4A1, FNX45, and CR75 are the only ones that can use them, so I don't get where you thought I was trying to say that every weapon in the game should have suppressors. And yes, I'm quite well aware of what DayZ is. I was simply pointing out that because they've considered going into depth with the AUG's modularity, rather than making them all separate variants, they could've done so with the M4A1 as well, which is part of another highly modular and universal rifle series. I'd reckon it's far easier to swap out a barrel on an M4A1 than it is to reconfigure an entire AUG, so if they're considering allowing that then I fail to see what's wrong with doing it to another weapon. Yes, they could still just make a MK18 and M16A4 and add them as separate rifles, I never said they shouldn't.

Fireaxe should not fit inside backpacks

For this reason precisely, we should get a combat axe, hatchet, or tomahawk, which can easily fit inside a backpack but is of course smaller than your standard fireaxe. Of course, most people just keep the axes in the melee slot, so I'd hope that the devs get rid of the slot system at some point, requiring a sling or rope in order to keep guns/melee weapons on your back, and giving people a reason to utilize handguns, submachine-guns, and other compact rifles/shotguns over just using the AKM, M4A1, SKS, or Mosin all the time.

Gold AKM for Loot Management System?

You should've uninstalled the moment you found out they had a customizable M4A1 (aka on release), then, because most of the custom parts besides the optics and RIS handguard are almost never found in notable quantities. They're justified by rarity, just as a gold-plated AK would be. Granted, I see no absolute reason to include this, because it offers nothing that we can't already have, and it'd be an essential downgrade to the AKM because of how it sticks out, BUT, it would be seen as a "status symbol", and if you saw someone who had one or found one you'd know that you're quite lucky, just like with Mountain Dew in the mod or, to a lesser extent, the Engraved 1911 now. The main reason I'd see it as beneficial is simply because they're just starting to test out the new loot centralization system (when I posted this thread it was still only discussion), and a gold-plated AKM would be a rather harmless addition to see how the rarity works. It's not an elite-tier sniper rifle, or rocket launcher, or machine gun, or thermal optics, it's just a cool, but impractical gun. As I said, use it as a pioneer for the system, so we can get an idea of what other weapons and items that will be incredibly rare would be like.

And actually work on effects like bullet drop, wind, air pressure, round type, and ammunition condition having them all substantially affect where the round will land.

So are rocket launchers going to be added soon?

RPGs are a direct-fire and man portable weapon - mortars can be carried but are far heavier and unusable until set up. Mortars require extremely precise measurements and accuracy in order to be used effectively - that's why nowadays they use GPS and tracking devices, which likely would not be present in DayZ. Rate of fire wouldn't really be significant considering rarity of ammunition would mean you'll only have a few at a time. As for practicality, you'd have even less incentive to take it until you'd reached a high status in terms of base and vehicle control, because you're not going to be able to use it on the fly. Granted, yes, for planned offensive/defense purposes a mortar could be more beneficial in the end, but that does not at all mean we should get them over RPGs, which are also more realistic. An RPG requires one guy, not four guys, and doesn't need coordinates. I'd say that's a bit more practical, especially post apocalypse when the technological advantages we have now are far harder to acquire.
  17. Chaingunfighter

So are rocket launchers going to be added soon?

Why anyone would keep a still functioning LAW in their closet is beyond me, though I'm assuming that it's a spent tube and is incapable of being reloaded. The LAW can only be fired once and there's no reloading, hence why it wouldn't be the worst weapon to add to DayZ (Or the RPG-18, Russian equivalent.) Not at all - RPG-7s and M72 LAWs are hardly designed to take on tanks. They can be used against them, but typically nowadays they're used as light anti-armor weapons (hence LAW) and thus mostly against unarmored cars/trucks or APCs. The RPG-7 is all over the place because of how common it is internationally but they're still typically used for lighter roles rather than actually taking on MBTs. They'd be "balanced" (though asymmetrical experience is one of DayZ's biggest factors, IMO) by the fact that they're heavy and cumbersome, their ammunition is large (and in the case of the LAW, you only get one shot before it must be discarded), they're relatively inaccurate (LAWs aren't too bad but they aren't exactly long ranged - RPG-7s have a tendency to fire wildly), they have a limited utility against infantry - even large groups (ironically enough, this is taught by ArmA, and group density is significantly lower in DayZ than in ArmA), and they're simply extremely hard to find and maintain. Unlike in ArmA, there are no "slots" for rocket launchers, so you're either going to be carrying it in your hands or on your back, and only want to use it if you encounter vehicles or are fighting against a fortified position. It's what sets them up as an endgame weapon - you'll have limited incentive to pick one up if you don't have a good setup already going, so they're not "OP" nor are they out of place, but they can still be extremely helpful for combating people of equal or higher strength with large bases and vehicle access. Probably not rocket launchers (to a large extent), so ironically enough, there'd be plenty of these leftover when positions became overran and evacuating troops only took what was necessary. Not saying they'd at all be common (they would be some of the rarest weapons in the game), but acting as if they'd cease to exist is simply false. RPG-7 still works, because it has wooden furniture :P Though to be fair, (typically) the people who want the AKM to be the highest tier rifle in the game want really low ammunition spawns, rather than high ones. Which is perfectly fine, it's just not a good reason to argue that "something shouldn't be present at all". As it currently stands, yes, adding super advanced military weapons is a bad idea. We know that the player system is still in the process of being overhauled, things like weight, stamina, and other conditions will start to have an effect on you. There's also features like the centralized loot system and management, and how loot itself spawns is still being worked on. However, I really would not have any reason to be worried about some guy running around with an RPG as it stands. The PG-7V rockets are going to take up a shit ton of space, you could probably carry four or five max in even the largest backpacks, and that's disregarding all of the other gear you'd need to hold onto (because who the hell is going to run around with an RPG as their main weapon?) People would be stupid to carry them in any significant quantities as it stands, where bases aren't really a thing and all combat is currently infantry based. The LAW would be a bit different, because you could carry that in a backpack (or on your back) and it's not going to use up nearly as much space nor be as heavy, but the fact that it's a one use weapon would mean you only fire it if you really need it.
  18. Chaingunfighter

So are rocket launchers going to be added soon?

Oh, no, it's going to be ArmA with zombies if they ever add one of these; Because you'd never find a single one of these anywhere on the planet. Or one of these; Anything beyond that I'd say no to, but there's nothing excessive about an RPG-7 or M72/RPG-18. I hate all of these "ArmA with zombies" comments, like having common military equipment in the game somehow makes the game into a different style. As to whether they'll be in soon, I doubt it, but at some point I see no reason why not.

    cutting down on snipers

Boy, are you in for a thrill when they start adding actual sniper rifles to the game. Right now they'd technically have nothing to remove.

Status Report - Week of 13 Oct 14

Yeah, it's just sad that we didn't get this level of detail with the M4/AR-15 series (not saying it can't change.) But it would've been awesome to be able to swap between 10.5', 11.5', 14.5', 16', and 20' barrels on the M4 in order to change the accuracy but at the same time profile. The M4 definitely needs a wider range of optics, a foregrip, some laser sights, and possibly an M203 to go along with the rest. I'm all in favor of the "Suppressor 5.56" working on the AUG. There's no real reason why it wouldn't.
  21. Who knows, maybe for variety, or just to prevent any drastic changes from happening to the already existing rifle. (They did say for now, so they may get rid of it at some point) I'm not saying it was at all necessary, but I believe in the end the decision to make the AK-74 spawn with wooden parts and keeping the AK-101 as a "party piece" weapon will probably be better than just having the AK-74M.
  22. Actually, according to a now removed forum post of the (as of yet unreleased) dev blog from October 13, they decided to make the AK-74 a wooden one, and keep the AK-101 as a separate gun with the polymer furniture. They've also discussed making the AUG modular, as they discussed - it'll start out as a carbine with the built-in optic, but it's possible that you can convert it into an HBAR variant with RIS for other optics. But yeah, you can just put wooden furniture on the AK101 for now.

Status Report - Week of 13 Oct 14

The AK-74 will spawn with wooden furniture? Awesome. The fact that we can keep the AK-101 is cool, too. Really excited for a modular AUG, though.
  24. Chaingunfighter

    more guns-

I meant in relation to the M1 Garand/M14 series, but yeah, that is true. I actually wouldn't mind seeing a Thompson in the game at some point, as most of the weaponry aid the US sent to the Soviet Union did consist of Thompsons, and they're one of the few US WW2 weapons used in significant quantities in Eastern Europe post-WW2. That, and there were plenty of licensed and unlicensed copies produced throughout the Soviet Union and her allies, so even those wouldn't be too bad.
  25. Chaingunfighter

    more guns-

Ruger Mini-14 would be cool, but only if they decide to make the .223 a universal round, because right now it seems like it'll be standard for rarer military weapons. They could still do a Ruger Mini-30, which is the 7.62x39mm variant, though.
