    Steyr AUG bipod

Nope - they're not the same. The bipod for the M4A1, AKM/AK-101/AK-74 with RIS, and formerly the Mosin, is an ATLAS bipod, meant for going onto RIS or specific mounts. The AUG teaser shown is of the Steyr AUG HBAR, which has a unique bipod that comes standard on the barrel. The regular AUG comes as shown; The initial implementation of the AUG will only feature the latter model. However, in the near future, the AUG will be able to swap barrels and other attachments, including being converted into the former image; the AUG HBAR. So no, it doesn't mean that bipods are back. However, it likely does mean that bipods will get worked on in order for them to be properly functional (hence why they were removed) since we now have a weapon-specific bipod.

    Crafting a ghillie suit

That I'll need to put a thermal optic onto the AUG :P Or to just keep a closer eye out when posing for screenshots
  3. For this to work you'd have to remove the respawn while unconscious function and add a 5-10 minute timer in order to respawn from actual death, otherwise people would just assume they're dead and respawn to run back and grab their gear again.

In the grass, slightly to the right and under Mr. AUG's elbow. I'll admit I glanced over it many times until I saw the rifle.

Steyr AUG: Use the A3 and not the A1 version

Not being able to use STANAGs is a perfectly fair downside considering the AUG comes with the built in scope and can still be made to use alternatives/into an H-BAR gun. But yeah, we can probably assume the AUG will be an A2 that just spawns with the 1.5x scope built in, essentially replicating the A1. Call of duty actually has pretty abysmal customization, IMO. I'd actually bet that most of CoD's attachments only "serve a purpose", whereas in DayZ you can put attachments on that only change the aesthetic for the hell of it. PayDay 2 would be a better example of something with tons of customization. But honestly, low-level customization of the AUG doesn't really seem like a problem to me. It still can't use STANAGs (as far as I can tell), and you have to find the rails or extra barrels in order to even begin the process of making it modular. The M4A1 will still be the go to super-customizable weapon, because practically everything can be replaced on the spot. The AUG will be a more specialized support weapon, and likely be much rarer.

    Firearms Ranking

That's a good point, when one weapon is actually a good gun but simply inferior to another. It is true that someone good with a 1911 or CR75 will almost always be more effective with an FNX-45, with a higher capacity than the 1911, more damage than the CR75, and more attachment variety than both. I do think we need some more pistols that can compete with the FNX, such as a Glock 17 (more ammo), or a Mark 23 (more stopping power, also badass laser module), as right now the ideal pistol sidearm is the FNX, or the Magnum for those who don't want to carry around magazines.
  7. I'll write up a few and PM them to ya to see if you prefer them
  8. Should probably be doing this in a PM but I'm tired. I would gladly help you do some of the descriptions for guns, and revise any existing ones if necessary. Hell, I could even write some descriptions for future weapons and whatnot if you'd like.

Probably a simple error people. You'd be surprised how easy it is to overlook missed values.

Steyr AUG: Use the A3 and not the A1 version

The AUG will come as an A1 standard, but you can swap the barrels and add rails in order to (presumably) use the M4 optics. "@KreiCarter we are currently planning on being able to change barrels and to add a rail instead of the built in 1.5x scope" - Chris Torchia, Twitter. And actually, the version he showed off was the HBAR This will likely be the standard model To be fair, the AUG A1 was the counter-terrorist's gun in CS:S, so that's really meaningless :P

    Firearms Ranking

The 1911 should probably be ranked higher - it's a lovely handgun. However, (on terms of current gameplay) it's inferior to the FNX-45 in essentially every way (smaller magazine size, and fewer attachments). As for people complaining about the AK-74 and AKS-74U being ranked low; it makes sense considering how new they are. We've only been playing with them in stable for a couple weeks and they use a brand new kind of ammunition that doesn't spawn too often. I'd expect later on that 5.45x39mm ammo will spawn more often and guns like the AK-74 will be more practical simply because of ammo availability, but as it stands it's a straight downgrade from the AK-101 and AKM, who are both better with more firepower and available ammunition. The AKS-74U, on the other hand, would be an excellent weapon were 5.45mm ammo not so difficult to find. I would argue that because MP5K mags are so hard to find, while AK-74 mags are available, the AKS-74U is a half decent CQB weapon. and to OP, the AKS-74U uses a rifle round; the damage is far better than the 9x19 MP5K and .380 PM73.

    Give civilian clothes some bonus?

Pretty much this; for the most part, military gear will perform much better in combat/hostile encounters than typical civilian attire will, that's why it's developed as it is. However, as you stated; civilian clothing can have its own applications, being lightweight and trapping less heat. And, of course, there are always specialized items which can work extremely well for some areas. All of this, of course, should be well represented. But generally I think we're taking the "no military gear" stigma too far when you try to apply unrealistic bonuses to things that shouldn't have them.

    Surplus Wehrmacht uniforms/helmets

I'm not quite sure how you'd be "supporting Nazis" You wouldn't even need to include the swastika; you could simply feature the standard gray uniforms with the iron cross. Most people probably wouldn't end up offended by that (considering it's still a symbol Germany uses today)

    Surplus Wehrmacht uniforms/helmets

I don't want to see any stuff in this game. Neither weapons, nor clothing/uniforms. Everything should be removed as well. My opinion.

Is MP5 OEM Buttstock back in the game?

You guys are both wrong. The "MP5-K" ingame is an MP5K Top is DayZ's "MP5-K", the middle is a Heckler & Koch MP5KA4, and the bottom is a Heckler & Koch MP5K-PDW. DayZ's MP5K is a moshpit of a bunch of different features; it has (or had) a PDW-stock, but it's attached in an unorthodox manner. Likewise, it's lacking the extended flash hider of the MP5K-PDW and has aftermarket RIS attached to it. Technically the stock shouldn't be spawning on the variant of the MP5K we have, but having it spawn around on its own as an available attachment is perfectly fine. They didn't name it the "MP5-K" because of copyright reasons (Using "MP5" is fine), they named it "MP5-K" because it is an MP5K. There's nothing about the MP5K that makes it "fit" more into the style of a post-apocalyptic world. In fact, standard MP5A3s/MP5A4s would be far more realistic and available, especially in a post-Soviet environment (The MP5K isn't unrealistic, but it's definitely not as realistic). I don't believe it was removed intentionally... I believe it's the product of a bug that it no longer spawns.

You can never really own an actual, authentic M4. However, if you've got the money and time, you could certainly make a legal gun that uses a pre-86 automatic AR-15 receiver and all other M4-type parts. It won't be a true M4 but you'll get the same experience. As for belt-fed machineguns; they do exist on the civilian market, they're just hella expensive (like any legal select-fire weapons) However, yes, it is true that most of us will probably never get the chance to own an actual M4 or get the funds to purchase old machineguns.

    Sturmgewehr 44

It wasn't really due to the SVT-40, but moreso because of the Soviet's vehement use of submachine-guns (ala PPSh-41s, PPS-43s, and PPD-40s) that drove the Germans to develop guns like the MP44. SVTs were pretty limited in service and by the time production went large scale, cheaper and more reliable rifles like the SKS were entering service, and even the AK-47 was on early development trials. It was basically because the German's doctrine mainly relied on slow-firing and low-capacity KAR-98s that drove them to look for alternatives, simply because practically every allied power was diversifying its arsenals; NOT because of any one specific gun. The statement that the "M1 Garand is the rifle that won the war" obviously isn't true (it wasn't the US alone that won, either), but it was definitely a crucial battle implement in the Pacific and Western half of the European campaign. But it seems to me nowadays Americans love old soviet guns, especially because they're reliable and readily available (for a rather low price.) No one's "crapping on" the SVT.

    Sturmgewehr 44

It'd be a cool and not unrealistic firearm... but impractical on terms of ammunition; the 7.92x33mm Kurz round is used almost exclusively in it. We'd honestly get more out of 7.92x57mm Mauser (the full sized version of the cartridge), and even then I'd still prefer to see "7.62mm" ammo separated into .308 and 7.62x54mmR before they think about adding another full-sized cartridge (and I'd still pick .30-06 before 7.92mm) If I do recall there are some re-chambers and modern reproductions in .22LR, but they're quite different from the actual gun, so it's not a great alternative.
  19. How about the Walther PPK? It's historically and culturally significant, a small-time pocket pistol, would be available in .380 ACP ammunition, can fit a sound suppressor, and is not too unrealistic either. Of course, they could also do the COP-357 Four-rounds of "pepperbox" .357 Magnum, with incredibly short range, and extremely loud noise, would make this a viable but risky alternative to the regular derringer.
  20. Wouldn't really be balancing them out... in fact it'd probably make guns like the P1 and Makarov fairly useless since they need a magazine to use the same capacity, and diminish the roles of guns like the browning hi-power. Granted it'd still be cool as an addition, given that it spawn very rarely in some civilian houses (or possibly farmhouses, considering how old these are)

    Machine guns in DayZ

Most LMGs wouldn't be too different than rifles with high-cap mags, save for being more specialized in their roles. At the very least, an RPK or RPK-74 (or both) would be reasonable. alongside an RPD. However, I see nothing wrong with including a rather advanced setup of MGs; M249s, M240s, M60s (Preferably M60E4), PKs, MG3s, etc. So long as setting up belt-feeds/large magazines takes a while, the weapons have realistic handling, weight, recoil, and environmental conditions, they're perfectly fine.

    Surplus Wehrmacht uniforms/helmets

Chris has a model of it, he'd been discussing whether it would be beneficial/realistic to add it since the 7.63x25mm Mausers were the most common and even those are pretty rare nowadays. Of course I say why not, as it's another gun to add to the arsenal (plus Mausers are awesome), but we definitely aren't in need of any more pistols any time soon.
  23. Chaingunfighter

    Surplus Wehrmacht uniforms/helmets

If they add Wehrmacht uniforms, they absolutely need these as a complement; 9x19mm Luger P08, 9x19mm Mauser C96 'Red 9', and a .380 Walther PPK (No P38 because we have the nearly identical P1) Maybe some of these to go along with em' 9x19mm MP-40 & Steyr MP-34 Also wouldn't mind an MG-3, the post-war 7.62x51mm variant of the MG-42

    New Helicopter Crash Sites

I'd love this, especially if we can find guns like the M60E4 and Mark 23 at the U.S. crashsites. This would allow the devs to tier the guns based on the helicopter crashsites themselves, not on simply guns that deserve spawning at crashsites (For example, you could still have Beretta 92FS/M9 pistols spawn at U.S. crashsites, even though they're not superior to the CR75 which can spawn in general military areas)

    PM-73 in Police Stations?

It is much more sensible and realistic to have the PM-73, as well as MP5Ks spawn at helicopter crashsites, but I've also always remembered helicopter crashsites for being places to find truly end game weapons. It's definitely between a rock and a hard place to make that decision. I'd say that, at least for now, swapping the MP5K and PM-73 would be the better decision, because the PM-73 is almost impossible to find, and the MP5Ks are fairly popular (whereas PM-73s are, for the most part, inferior.) so you could justify it as a decent-tier weapon for now. The PM-73 can still remain a spawn for the eastern helicopter crash sites, and I can imagine that the MP5K could still be a (rare) general military spawn, by allowing it to spawn in the hangars or air traffic control towers, air-related buildings. That way both of them still remain somewhat common and you actually get to see both of them in use.
