Running and shooting can be effective if you need to move ahead to cover quickly while keeping an enemy suppressed, but otherwise you're better off firing from a fixed position, or at most walking. However, the point of these animations isn't to turn DayZ into a twitch shooter, but rather to make movement more fluid and smooth. I mean, ArmA 2's animations work well for regular gameplay, but DayZ's pace feels wrong when you have to sprint but then suddenly stop to step over a two foot fence or get stuck in toggled walk mode while under fire.

Yeah, by more quickly and efficiently I meant that mortars would be essentially useless to them when they can just teleport around or do whatever else they want with their exploits... I mean, hackers would still be a huge problem if the only weapons in the game were your character's fists. Hacking isn't something you should compromise on other features for, unless they would directly allow for it to happen. Server hopping is another issue entirely but like with guns ala the SVD and other rare spawns, we know that they're on hold and won't be added next update simply because they're a popular idea. Hell, whether or not this suggestion thread existed will probably have no effect on whether mortars actually make it into the game. Really the suggestions thread, to me, has always been an area where the community can go and get its ideas judged by the community, or submit ideas for modders to use. Granted, I'm sure it's happened more than once that the devs have used people's suggestions or at least been swayed in how people respond to them, but most of the time they have everything planned out.

Yeah... plus using mortars offensively is extremely difficult and ends up being more impractical than it's worth. The only thing mortars would really be good for is defensive scenarios and anyone server hopping would typically be on the move all the time. LIkewise, hackers would be able to kill people much more quickly and efficiently.

Yeah, it's basically an "agree with me or you're wrong" poll. Doesn't matter though, because these kinds of polls get the least actual information and demographics of any kind.

Results of killing (insanity, morality)
Chaingunfighter replied to threedogification's topic in Suggestions
There is no specific back story to the characters you play as.. we don't know whether they were drifters living alone their whole lives or people with massive families... and the only person who decides your backround is you. There would be people who try and keep what little there is left together, and there would also be those who acted on sadistic desires to kill. Yes, you could argue that those people are "insane", but that doesn't necessarily mean they only see through black and white or that some morality is causing them to feel guilty about it. It doesn't make sense. And then there's the fact that the game would have to be able to judge whether a killing was justified or not. I mean, what if someone really just was unlucky enough to get attacked all the time, but happened to be skilled enough to fight off the attacker(s)? Those systems simply would not work. -
Unfortunately this was already shot down because it uses a gun-specific cartridge. The only hope we have to see the Nagant at all (besides mods) is in some of the few re-chambered variants. However, people seem to flip their shit whenever the devs add anything that's not the exact realistic variant, so I wouldn't get hopes up for that, either.

I think we can all agree that military loot should and eventually will be significantly more difficult to acquire (through changes in rarity and challenges in getting to/toppling the loot spawns). However, that doesn't at all mean we should limit what and what not you can find. Sure, the majority of stuff you'll see will end up being civilian, but it'd be far more interesting if the military loot variety was higher, rather than lower.

Meh, this is the kind of thing where you either go full out and let people do complete customization or limit it extensively. I think having a wide variety of attachments and a good amount of spray colors available is probably enough to create the personalized gun. Tallies and whatnot would be cool but it would start becoming redundant and eventually you'd have people complaining as to why they can carve those into the gun but not designs of their choosing (and what's stopping someone from picking up a brand new AKM and carving 50 tallies into it?) With the vast amount of clothing and weapon customization options that are already in game, I'm sure people have enough to personalize themselves.

Honestly once you learn how to actually fly and land autohover becomes more of a detriment than it is useful. It's good for making a landing in a relatively open area where you're not paced to land quickly (i.e. being under fire or with enemies around), but if the situation needs a quick touchdown and dustoff or is in a compact area; you'd better be able to do it manually. As for OP, vehicle settings should remain the same as they are for the server. 1pp only servers should be 1pp only on foot and in cars. 1pp/3pp servers should be 3pp available at any time, including while in cars. If people want to mod in restrictions or make their own hybrid gamemode then that's fine, but I don't think 1PP-only across the board should be the default for every server.

Potental sawed off-able weapon: M79
Chaingunfighter replied to stielhandgranate's topic in Suggestions
No... it probably won't be implemented simply because the fish aren't actually rendered in the game, and thus spawning a group of fish after throwing an M67 or RGD-5 would simply be awkward to code. I don't think it has anything to do with being frowned upon, considering things like cannibalism and torture are not only available, but possibly beneficial to some parties involved. Granted you were probably being sarcastic and I just didn't pick up on it, but whatever. If they do end up adding it, I won't mind at all, I just think it's a waste of time and certainly not worth the extremely valuable explosives. -

Chaingunfighter replied to stielhandgranate's topic in Suggestions
You'd be surprised how bad an actual grenade launcher would perform... 40mm HEDP isn't too powerful compared to many other explosives. and add that to the fact that it's detonating in the water, you'll have a surprisingly weak explosion. Granted, it'll still kill all of the fish for quite a few feet, but 40mm rounds only detonate after traveling a certain distance, so you'd have to actively know where the fish were and be able to make an accurate enough shot to hit the group. It'd be fairly pointless, and definitely a waste of an HE grenade for how rare they (probably) will be. -

Chaingunfighter replied to stielhandgranate's topic in Suggestions
The RGM-40 is only really used by the Russian Ministry of Interior Defense. M79s are used far more often in Europe. Granted, I see no reason why we can't have both... one as a heli crashsite spawn and the other as a police/military building spawn, but whatever. Oh, and this can't be sawed off. -
Third Person View should be Over-the-Shoulder, NOT a bird's eye view.
Chaingunfighter replied to Rags!'s topic in General Discussion
That's not even the same kind of question question.... 95 people vote they are okay with the current candy selection / are okay with current 3pp 43 people vote they want Twix added to the menu / think 3pp should be over the shoulder 16 people vote they want some other kind of candy added to the menu / think 3pp should be different but not as suggested in this thread 47 people vote they don't think candy should be an option. / think 3pp should be removed. Yes, a larger portion of the people that voted there believe that candy should change. However, the majority also seems to be okay with candy existing in some form, and would not pick the fourth option. You're making a false correlation. -
Third Person View should be Over-the-Shoulder, NOT a bird's eye view.
Chaingunfighter replied to Rags!'s topic in General Discussion
Yes, but the majority of people still voted for the first option. Were the poll arranged differently or split up better then the data would be easier to analyze however it wasn't. Whether or not I'm "cherry picking information", it's quite clear that complete removal of third person is not the most popular idea. The majority do not advocate for third person being removed. Plain and simple. (and regardless, it likely won't happen anyway... the devs have shown that they prefer having the option and split servers) -
Third Person View should be Over-the-Shoulder, NOT a bird's eye view.
Chaingunfighter replied to Rags!'s topic in General Discussion
But that's false correlation, because it operates under the assumption that removal would be the best option since the largest SUB-group of the lower three options picked it. Most of the crowd in the two middle groups wouldn't necessarily want the option removed from the game, hence why they picked one of those two options, so don't try and argue that the majority voted to get rid of it... that's not at all what is being said. Otherwise I could just as easily turn it around to; "Keep 3rd Person in the Game" and "Get Rid of It" and you'd see that by an even larger margin people wanted or could at least tolerate 3rd person existing in some form in DayZ. Only the majority of the minority want 3PP removed, not the actual majority. -
Potental sawed off-able weapon: M79
Chaingunfighter replied to stielhandgranate's topic in Suggestions
I think it's safe to say that nothing like this would be implemented now... hell, why do you think there are M203 and GP-25 models in the files that aren't being used yet? Partially because they are attachment-based weapons, but mainly because loot centralization doesn't exist, and we have wild spawn rates. Plus; it's a grenade launcher, and only certain buildings seem to be affected by the largely increased spawn rates, so you wouldn't exactly be seeing them everywhere (assuming they were heli crashsite spawns.) Sawing off the M79 would be a lot less practical than the IZH-43 or even Mosin, because a regular M79 should be able to fit in your backpack anyway. Granted, you would take up a much smaller degree of space, but it's not like the M79 is some CQB weapon, and you'd suffer with incredibly reduced aiming, accuracy, and increased recoil, but I guess it is a possibility. However, yeah, the M79 is more practical than the RPG-7 to implement on a development perspective because they both use the same 40mm rounds. RPG-7s and M79s are two completely different kinds of weapons; there's no reason why we can't have both. -
Third Person View should be Over-the-Shoulder, NOT a bird's eye view.
Chaingunfighter replied to Rags!'s topic in General Discussion
But "changing" third person view wouldn't at all affect the "There should be no 3rd person option" voters. I mean, yes, removing 3rd person from the game would be different than it is now, but it's still not the same as revising it to make it work better. Either way, this poll is hardly representative of the entire community... yeah, you can get a half decent idea about it, but with only around ~200 voters from one area of the community in an entire game of thousands of players, you simply cannot say that it's accurate data. Which is why, honestly, the best idea is to leave it up to individual server admins to judge how they want to run their game;1st person/3rd person, 1st person only, or even 3rd person only, doesn't matter to me. Y ou can cry about how "buuuuuuuuuuut hardly anyone plays 1pp servers"... but, tough luck; there are plenty of people that do, and it wouldn't at all be more worthwhile to try and force an arguably larger percentile of the community to play one style simply because someone wants more people to play with. -
Cannibalism - Lets make it USEFUL
Chaingunfighter replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
Which is quite frankly ridiculous. However it only happened with the "official" mod; practically every other version of DayZ retains said models. -
By central I mean actually centralized, not server controlled. Meaning 100 SVDs across the game will only ever exist on those specific servers until a specific instance is somehow removed from the server. And that could end up meaning no one ever uses them because they spawn on empty servers or ones that no longer are actively played on.
-
By less do you mean less variety or just less spawning? (or dare I say removing stuff from the game?) Because I can agree with the second point, however I don't think that means we should cut out the variety of stuff available to those who are lucky enough to find it. As for the "regular survivors" point... why does that matter? You can still put on a military uniform whether you're a civilian or not. I can guarantee you if something post apocalyptic happens military surplus will see no shortage of usage even among "regular survivors."
-
Central item management won't work if there's no character persistence across all servers... otherwise you'd have instances of super rare items all being stuck on empty or low pop servers simply because they happened to spawn there. It's one or the other.
-
They do have a pretty good variety of eastern equipment though; the SPOSN tortilla backpack, SMERSH backpack, pilotka, tanker helmet, ZSh3 pilot helmet, Soviet Army Officer's cap, Gorka uniform, OREL uniform, TTsKO uniform, Gorka E helmet, and SMERSH vest are all a pretty decent selection of eastern/central European gear. That's not to mention the extremely wide variety of European civilian and emergency services (police/fire/paramedic) clothing there is. The only real western military gear is the gas mask, high capacity vest, and UK assault vest. The ballistic helmet is western-styled but it's pretty generic, and the boonie caps/berets represent both sides as well as civilians. What I would like is to see some actual desert/arid/snow camouflage for variety and possible future maps in alternate environments.
-
It would be pretty pointless if it didn't do that. I mean, otherwise you'd only be making yourself less enabled in CQB were it only aesthetic. Hopefully the bipod will work as proper instead of just reducing dispersion (though because it's a part of the barrel I doubt it will do anything until bipods are corrected)
-
Well, it IS a bullpup. However, it also comes with a built-in 1.5x scope and can of course be made into a support rifle. Really what it amounts to is that you just can't go wrong with the AUG :P. (Though unfortunately I imagine this will be reflected with it being very rare)
-
It's a 5.56x45mm AR, so typically it'll work best at medium ranges, just as most ARs do. Comparing it to the other 5.56x45mm ARs; the AUG has a 16" in. barrel, the M4A1 has a 14.5" in. barrel, and the AK-101 has a 16.3" in. barrel, so on terms of barrel length the AUG is longer than the M4A1 but shorter than the AK-101. In a sense, the M4A1 will still be preferable for CQB, but the AUG is still, by a fraction, better than the AK-101. This, of course, does not take into account bayonets, suppressors or flash hiders, which can greatly change the length of all guns (the AK-101 has a sizeable flash hider and based on what I've seen the AUG does not utilize the standard one so accurate measurements aren't possible yet.) As for ranged capability, the AUG as default is probably the best, as it comes with a 1.5x scope built-in (that will be able to be removed and replaced with RIS for other optics later on.) Additionally, the 16" barrel should theoretically make it more accurate than the M4A1, though it's impossible to say because it isn't ingame yet. An M4A1 with an ACOG or AK-101 with PSO-1 will still be a better choice for longer ranges, at least when compared to a regular AUG. However, again, the AUG HBAR variant has a 35.4" in barrel with included bipod, so it'll probably be the best and most accurate long-ranged support weapon in game at all (at the time of implementation.) All three have a 'standard' capacity of 30 rounds (by standard I mean that's the go to amount), with the M4A1 having 40 and 60 round mags. The AUG can come with 42 and even 100 round magazines, but they aren't confirmed, so as of yet the M4A1 also wins on total capacity. As for attachment diversity I can't really say, but I believe it'll be a little bit more basic for the AUG; swappable barrels, and swapping the default scope to a rail or m4 optics. For the most part it's a medium-to-long ranged weapon. Is it comparable to the mod's M16A4? Somewhat, in that it's a 5.56 AR with a zoomed optic. However, the M16A4 had a longer default barrel and a further zoomed in optic, so I wouldn't consider this a replacement for it. In my opinion though, it'll definitely be something spotters, marksmen, or support guys in a group won't want to gloss over.
