    Bows, bows and bows.

Bow mechanics will obviously be improved in the coming months, especially with a new animation system that allows them to be fired on the move and smoother animation transitions. I mean, I don't think we need most of what OP said but at least a compound bow at some point would be nice. Plus you yourself are a strong advocate of having the game be less focused on firearms and military grade clothing and more on improvised/survivor like equivalents, and having some form of pre-apocalypse manufactured bow would allow for that immensely. So I'm not sure why you disapprove of having at least one bow.

    Less Military. More Apocalyptic. (Clothing)

Wat. If anything (and I don't agree with this either) it should be military guns that spawn at helicopter crashsites while their uniforms and combat gear spawn in the bases. I mean, the most likely possessions you're going to find in the barracks are... clothes. Several of the other military buildings would also have plenty of uniforms. Don't know why they would only spawn at helicopter crashsites. I mean, did they just decide to take all of their uniforms and carry them around on helicopters for no good reason? The spawns just need to be toned down. Moving them to only crashsites wouldn't even make any sense.

    .44 Magnum Revolver

.44 Magnum doesn't really bring anything to the table that .357 doesn't. I mean, the vast majority of guns that are made in .44 Magnum nowadays usually have a nearly identical .357 analogue. Hell, this Smith & Wesson Model 27 looks almost exactly like the Model 29 he showed previously, so if they really want to go Dirty Harry style they still can without needing to add a new ammunition caliber. I'm not saying .357 Magnum is very realistic either, but it's more believable than .44 Magnum and is used in a considerable number of Eastern revolvers. For the choice of a magnum cartridge .357 was obviously the best contender. Desert Eagle wouldn't make sense in any real context. I mean, it is used by Polish GROM special forces, so technically it makes more sense than some guns we have now, but the aesthetic feels really out of place, not so much the gun. The only good reason to add .44 is for more guns that .357 already has covered. Otherwise, it's just unnecessary and the work needed to implement it wouldn't be worthwhile.
  4. Chaingunfighter

More weapon break downs (Like Trumpet)

That specific breakdown of an AK wouldn't really do anything to make it fit in a backpack better, as it still has the same length. Specific guns actually designed for easy breakdown like the M4, Blaze 95, and IZH-43 I could stand behind, but I'm not sure how much the devs want to go and revise their models to do that (especially considering the Trumpet has no attachments where the M4 does. And the IZH-43 can be sawed-off, removing the need for breakdowns.) AKs specifically I think should be limited by their current form. You want to store it in a backpack? Get an AKS-74U, or you're carrying it on your back/in your hands. With AKs being, and likely to remain, the most common assault rifle platform in the game it'd be breaking the balance to be able to carry one around with free will.

    .44 Magnum Revolver

I don't see the point. The caliber isn't very realistic to the region, it doesn't really bring anything new to the table gun-wise (basically just more redundant revolvers and lever actions), and it wouldn't perform differently enough to the standard .357 Magnum cartridge to make any difference in the game. Plus, nearly every .44 revolver that really matters and would be acceptable in the world exists in .357, so the workload to create a new caliber just because is unnecessary. And if they really feel the need to do another lever-action rifle they could do a lot more with something like the Winchester M1895 which fires an actual full power rifle round, rather than just a slightly more powerful magnum cartridge. Your exact points are some of the reasons why we don't have a large amount of calibers, especially ones that are just thrown in for no good reason. I mean, difficulty probably has little to do with it but the devs seem to agree on the fact that adding new ammunition calibers should only be done if it actually offers something new. .44 Magnum doesn't do anything significant you can't do with .357, it'd just be a different class of the same weapons with more damage but harder to find ammo. I'm all for caliber diversity but I'd rather they make ones that would make a difference, like 7.62x25 and a split between .308 and 7.62x54R. Desert Eagles exist in .357 Magnum as well, so there would be no need to add a new caliber. It doesn't matter, though, the Desert Eagle is way too out of place and it's made worse by the fact that it is very largely represented in modern media and thus feels even more out of place.

1911 & Makarov should not have suppressors

The most recent experimental update has pistol suppressors that spawn almost everywhere. Additionally, it seems as if the 1911 and Makarov are now able to use them, unlike before where it was just the FNX45 and CR75 that could use them. As versatile as that makes the other pistols, I still believe that suppressors should be left to the smaller set of weapons. Why? Take a look at these; That's the 1911 and Makarov. Now take a look at these: Both of them have a threaded barrel which would allow for a suppressor to be attached. The 1911 and Makarov do not have these, so it makes no sense that they can use one that clearly requires barrel threads to be added. ^ Would not attach to the 1911 at all, Makarov is unlikely. Besides the fact that it is just incorrect, it sort of removes some of the grandeur of the former pistols. Having the ability to mount a suppressor was a serious factor beforehand and now basically every pistol can use one, so it is no longer a consideration players have to make, and I feel like that's detrimental to the game. Regardless, I understand that it's early and the devs might just be testing to see how the pistol suppressor works in general, but in the end only threaded barreled pistols should use them.
  7. Chaingunfighter

1911 & Makarov should not have suppressors

If they wanted to they could add a threaded barrel to this model and then it'd be perfectly fine with mounting a suppressor. It's just really damn odd for the current version to have one. Ideally they'd add a threaded barrel to the current variants and add a classic style 1911 that spawns as a civilian weapon, with the tactical one being a military spawn.

Guns you can't wait to see in DayZ?

You just happened to post your response right as I posted mine, that's why I was quick to respond. Thompson if it were added would be like that, I'd just personally prefer it weren't. .22LR Nagant would be fine, I guess.

Guns you can't wait to see in DayZ?

Yeah, the Greasegun really fits that apocalyptic improvised feel, despite not being too realistic on its own. It seems like it would fit in with guns like the Blaze 95 and Repeater; the real guns they're based on wouldn't be common in Chernarus but they don't feel wrong given the setting. UMP-45 would definitely be the most realistic one, though, so long as it's a helicopter crashsite spawn. I'd also be okay with a MAC-10 if they decided to go with it. I also really want to see the Agram 2000: They're Croatian modified variants of the Beretta M12 SMG (which I'd also be okay with.) After using these in limited conflict they basically sold them all off and they ended up on the black market, and are now a popular choice with criminals and rebel groups across Eastern Europe. Seems like it'd be a nice Eastern equivalent to the MP5K, being a more common spawn with more magazine variety at the cost of not having rails.

Guns you can't wait to see in DayZ?

Only NATO guns we have are the M4A1, AUG, FNX45, and Amphibia (and M67 Grenade, but that's not a gun.) For some reason the MP-133 with pistol grips also spawns at NATO crashsites but it's not at all a western weapon. I feel like they could do a bit more to at least make NATO into an actual faction, rather than just some random helicopter crashsites that have a few rifles and pistols that are technically western. There's nothing truthfully special about these crashsites like there was in the mod, which had the chance for some truly rare guns. We're going to need real high-end level stuff like an M249 or M60E4 to finish that list up, not just two ARs. The first two are more realistic than both the AN-94 and AS VAL, though I'm okay with both of those. Yeah, all of these recently announced guns are actually quite awesome. Model 70 is great because it's the first real full-power cartridge hunting rifle we'll get. I mean, yeah, the Mosin has that role too but it doesn't feel like a hunting rifle in the same way that the Model 70 does, and the CR-527 is more of a brush gun/small-game rifle with the 7.62x39 round. The other guns, likely hunting rifles but possibly mil-spec ones like the SV-98 or M24 are also very cool, and no matter what will bring a lot more to the table. The FN Trombone is also nice, and I'm super excited to be able to break it down and use it as a purpose-built backup rifle. It also adds to the small list of .22LR guns which has been need of improvement for awhile. And, the fact that it's a pump-action rifle is cool, too. (Something that bothers me is that we don't really have any true low-tier weapons in the .22LR category; the Sporter is decent and the Trombone seems like it will be as well, and the Amphibia is high-end military equipment with an internal suppressor. While I know it's likely to have more purposeful and widely used guns at this stage, sometime in the future it'd still be nice to have a bolt-action .22 rifle, revolver, semi-automatic pistol, and maybe a survival rifle like the AR-7 that doesn't need to be broken down.) And even the .45 ACP SMG sounds nice, though I hope it's a UMP-45 and not a Thompson or something like that. (I could live with a Greasegun just because it has that guerrilla feel to it, but I'd still prefer it not be that.) The SMG category could use a buffer, with the MP5K being the only one used and PM73 essentially a legend it's been needing additions for awhile.

Light Machine Guns and WW2 guns

Mosin isn't really canonically converted in the game, it's just that they haven't gotten around to making 7.62x54mmR and .308 as two separate ammunition rounds. As for the machine guns, most of those are fine, but the MK48 isn't really necessary with the M240 and M249 and is less realistic. The PKM, MK48, and M240 aren't LMGs, though. They're general purpose machine guns (GPMGs) because they fire a full-sized rifle cartridge rather than an intermediate round like the RPK, PKM, and M249 do. KAR-98, MG34, MP40, and Mauser C96 are acceptable, but the MG34 would be far less realistic than an MG42, which in turn is less realistic than the modern MG-3, which additionally uses 7.62x51mm/.308 rounds rather than 7.92x57mm which is unlikely to be added (unfortunately means KAR-98 is unlikely, too). MP40 and C96 can be added without a new caliber. The Gewehr 41 and MKb-42 were much less common than their later versions (G43 and StG-44) and there's no real reason to have them, especially considering caliber limitations. The Soviet WW2 weapons would be great but if I recall the Nagant revolver has been specifically declined because it fires a specific cartridge.

    Is the AUG worth finding?

No real reason to use it over the M4 now, unless you're having a hard time finding optics and really need a scoped AR. As a whole it's mostly the same as the M4 performance wise, and it uses all of the 5.56 mags as well as the suppressor, so most of the (meaningful) attachments work fine. The built-in scope is only okay, though, and heavily outclassed by the ACOG optic (plus the irons on top aren't usable) so I wouldn't bother. In the future the AUG will have swappable barrels (including an HBAR MG barrel with a built-in bipod) as well as an optional rail for regular optics so it may actually be better than the M4A1 in some regards, so don't lose all hope yet. It's a great weapon overall, just not at its full potential and outclassed by the M4A1 and AKM for the roles it uses now.

    Barret 50. cal?

A bolt-action .50 like the KSVK or AW-50 would be fine with me so long as they're super rare and hard to use. The only reason I really see any reason to have one is to give alternative uses for 12.7mm ammo if they ever decide to add HMGs like the M2 or DShK for vehicles, otherwise I think we should just stick with .308 and 7.62x54mmR snipers... there's plenty you can do with them, especially on a map like Chernarus. 10/20-round DMRs like the M14 and SVD, and bolt-actions like the M24 are more than enough for your sniper needs here.

A New Tier Of Weaponry, Police

Skorpion is a must have SMG, but it still doesn't really feel like something you'd see police using as their main SMG, as the compact size means it's basically a machine pistol for all intents and purposes. I think the PM-98 Glauberyt would be a good choice, as it's a Polish 9x19mm SMG and was designed specifically for police usage. The predecessor PM-84P also works equally as well. This would be a purely police spawn. However, best it would seem to just make the PM-73 the police SMG and use the ones below: IMI Uzi (Mini and Micro work as well) - Rebel cache, maybe NATO spawn as well. This appears very similar to the PM-98/84P so I figured this'd be better on its own. Steyr MP34 - WW2 side-loaded 9x19 SMG, would also be rebel cache spawn. The Sterling L2A3, Sten, MP-18, MP-28, and MP-35 series all work equally as well, and the Sterling could work as a military SMG in addition to guerrilla one. PPSh-41 - One of the most iconic Russian weapons, clearly a must have. SA Vz. 64 (This is a Vz. 61 but the 64 was essentially the same gun in .380) - Subcompact SMG/machine pistol, police and military spawn. HK UMP-45 - NATO helicopter crashsite weapon, just to have a .45 caliber SMG. Bizon-2-02 - .380 ACP variant of the Bizon, would act as the Eastern crash site high-capacity SMG. 8 SMGs seems like a reasonable number to have by release, of course we may have more or less in actuality. The MP5K and UMP-45 would be the rare, modular NATO helicopter crashsite spawns, the Bizon would be the Eastern crashsite SMG of choice, the PM73 and Skorpion would be general Eastern police and military SMGs, the Uzi/PM-98 would be a purely police weapon, and the MP34/other SMG and PPSh-41 would be rarer guerrilla weapons.

A New Tier Of Weaponry, Police

The PP-19-01 Vityaz SN makes sense to me as an Eastern-bloc special operations type SMG equivalent to the MP5. Rebel caches sound like a good idea, always being random spawns in unorthodox locations, as remnants from the war. They could make these spots interesting by having them be actual spawn locations for the sawed-off IZH-43 and Mosin, as they seem very criminal esque in nature. Additionally, they would be acceptable spawn locations for guns like the PPSh-41 which seem like large requests, and it'd be more balanced than finding them at civilian locations while still making more sense than having them spawn at police stations.
  17. Chaingunfighter

A New Tier Of Weaponry, Police

Yeah but the Amphibia itself is (or at least, has been) used by US Navy SEALs, so despite being a poor choice compared to the regular version it makes the most sense being a helicopter crashsite spawn. It's hard to really justify having at all but it's an interesting weapon gameplay-wise and the fact that it's internally suppressed is a quality that balances the rarity anyway. PM73 would be fine as police loot, though I still think more should be done in the way of Eastern SMGs in the future. MP5K for now can remain police loot but in the future hopefully we get other SMGs that better fit the role, because the MP5K compared to even just a regular MP5A3 seems like something you'd see NATO special operations and helicopter pilots using, rather than any Chernarussian police or tactical teams. Doesn't really matter personally, as the MP5 series is general enough to be used anywhere, but I do think that in the future every weapon type should be represented across all spawns (except for places it obviously shouldn't be, like machine guns and explosives spawning in civilian houses.) Speaking of the M67, I'm not sure why it was added at all. I mean, I know it was added before the RGD-5, but the two grenades perform identically as far as the game is concerned. Seems like the only reason was for variety, though Chris did talk about wanting to create "kits" for all of the factions from ArmA 2, and considering how simple a grenade is to model maybe they just decided to have different ones for the two factions. I'm not complaining, though; it's just somewhat weird.
  18. Chaingunfighter

A New Tier Of Weaponry, Police

FNX-45 and M67 should really be west crashsite only - there's no real reason the CDF would have them (maybe M67s but I feel like the RGD-5 better represents the "East" grenade while the M67 represents the "West" one.) You also forgot the Amphibia, which is reasonably included as West crashsite loot. Regular MP-133 should also be included with regular civilian loot, while the pistol grip variant stays fine as is (should be removed from the West helicopter crashsites, though. Don't know why it spawns there.) And if they move the PM73 to police stations then the MP5K would be better off as crashsite loot as well. It's not end-game tier but it makes more sense that way. The AK-101 still, IMO, only makes sense as a special forces (East crashsite) weapon. AK-74M still falls under that category if they change it in the future.
  19. Chaingunfighter

A New Tier Of Weaponry, Police

Wasn't really intended as bait, just to make a point that police forces using effective military-esque equipment is common on the world stage. And it wouldn't really make a difference whether they had the equipment or not, it's just more effective at keeping them safe. All that would be different is you'd have corrupt/bad cops breaking into people's houses and shooting people with non military weapons and situations where good cops/ones who are trying to stop a legitimately bad situation are much more poorly equipped and have to put their lives on the line. The political validity of no-knock warrants and keeping police officers safer are two completely different ideas. Back on topic, I can agree with having flashbangs be a police spawn. Perhaps they should add larger police stations for Cherno and Novo that would accommodate tactical teams and thus allow for high tier equipment spawning so the smaller ones can still be a good place to find weapons but aren't just an easy way to grab an AK or MP5.

    Mauser C96

.380 variant has likely not been produced beyond prototypes and demonstration versions either, it's just the fact that it's nearly identical to the real Bizon that makes me prefer it. Obviously the 9x18mm version is the only truly realistic one but because that caliber won't be implemented (anytime soon, at least) .380 is the best option. Mauser is probably best as the 9x19 variant if they choose to add it as such, as the C96 was never really designed to shoot 7.62x25mm. You can certainly do it, but because the Red 9 was specifically designed with 9mm in mind it'd be more believable than having a bunch of 7.63 Mausers that only use 7.62x25. I mean, if they want to make it a 7.62x25 gun that's fine by me, but if 7.62x25 is meant to be a niche but powerful civilian/criminal caliber then I'd prefer they have fewer guns that use it, and the Tokarev + possibly CZ-52 would be enough in the form of pistols. Winchesters wouldn't really be any more or less realistic than other lever-action rifles, because you just don't find too many of them in Eastern Europe in general. (The Rossi R92/Repeater wasn't a bad choice for what it was, though.) Despite the fact that they were sparsely used, a 7.62x54mmR lever-action rifle would be very unique. Plus, it has a 5 round internal magazine capacity, so the accuracy and round power would be "balanced" by the Repeater that has double the mag capacity (actually 11, but I digress), and by the Mosin which would be more common and has access to the PU scope.
  21. Chaingunfighter

    Mauser C96

I tend to throw the PPS and PPSh into the same bowl because the PPS is basically just a slow firing PPSh built completely out of metal that isn't compatible with drum mags. Would be pointless to have both IMO and the PPSh-41 would be better for gameplay and make more sense. TT-33 would obviously be the must have weapon if they were to add 7.62x25. CZ-52 would be a cool addition but when considering everything it's very similar to the Tokarev. Yes, it's got better iron sights and is just generally a higher quality pistol but both of them are 8 round pistols with a marginal difference in accuracy, so you can't really say the CZ-52 would be much more than just increasing the variety of 7.62x25 guns available. (I have no problem with that.) The SA Vz. 24 and 26 are basically the same gun - one has a wooden stock and the other has a metal folding stock, and they're otherwise the same, so they wouldn't need both. This gun was actually standard produced in 9x19mm (SA Vz. 23 and SA Vz. 25) but if they added 7.62x25 I'd have no problem with the Tok variants of these, they fit the setting well enough. Bizon is another but I'd prefer they did the .380 ACP variant if they planned on adding it - it still uses a near identical 64 round drum which is the iconic feature of the Bizon, rather than a 35 round magazine. Two mid-end SMGs (PPSh and SA Vz. 24/26) are more than enough for a caliber I'd expect was meant to be a niche role. C96 is very likely to be the Red-9 at this point, based on dev comments, so I doubt a 7.62x25 version will happen. .357 can still use a few more guns for variety, but I agree that unless they want to add something like a Desert Eagle or AutoMag semi-auto pistol there's not a whole lot they can do that would be a whole lot different. 7.62x54R would have the SVT-40, SVD, Mosin, and PKM as the base firearms, but there's more they can do; the Winchester M1895, which I actually support having as an alternative to the Repeater - the SV-98, a bolt-action Eastern sniper rifle, - the DP-28, a very unique machine gun - and the PM M1910, a rarer vehicle/tripod mounted base weapon. 5.45 will, of course, need the RPK-74 to bolster it, and I wouldn't mind having an AN-94, AK-12, AK-107, and/or AK-105 to bolster them with some rarer ones, but there's a pretty unique German hunting rifle called the SSG-82 that uses 5.45x39mm rounds, and also some variants of the Saiga rifle use it as well (They don't need to be added, though, as 5.45 might be intended as a strictly police/military caliber.) .380 is limited but there are plenty of ones that could top it off. .30-06 has never actually been confirmed and only mentioned a very small number of times (specifically by Dean, who isn't on the team anymore.) Were they to add it I'd hope they mainly focused on civilian hunting rifles with the Garand being a really rare gun. I am biased, though, and love the Browning M1919 (not the BAR, don't care for that), so I wouldn't complain if they added that either :P. It isn't really necessary, as long as they split .308 and 7.62x54mmR into two separate calibers they'll have plenty of civilian and military rifles available and .30-06 would in essence just be a civilian only caliber - pointless, if you ask me, but I'm not on the team so I can't speak for anyone.

A New Tier Of Weaponry, Police

In a lot of places you'd be surprised how similar the military and police are in terms of equipment. I mean, here in the United States there's already a lot of controversy over giving police departments MRAPs and armor handed down from the US (mainly from those who are overly worried that better protection for cops means we're becoming a police state, but I digress.) In Africa, Asia, and South America (and Mexico for a notable North American example) it's extremely common for police officers to openly wear AKs and other assault rifles. Eastern Europe is not really any different save for the fact you'll also have a standard patrol force likely included, but for the most part the cops get a lot of hand me down AKs and re-painted military vehicles and the largest difference is their legal abilities are different to those of the military. In the U.S. we just have that "tier" of patrol cops who are armed with a sidearm, and sometimes a shotgun or semi-automatic rifle in their car, as opposed to other countries who either go full out or don't arm regular patrol cops with firearms at all. But basically with the amount of firearms we have now you wouldn't really see that much distinction in loot spawns at police stations vs military ones; the rifles that spawn make sense. Once we get more dedicated military rifles like the SVD or FN FAL I'd presume they will only spawn at military spawns, but for now what we have works (Except for the MP5-K. That shouldn't be a police spawn.)

A New Tier Of Weaponry, Police

It should really be mixed. Of the weapons in-game, I'd prefer it go like this: Civilian-only Spawns: Crossbow, P1, Derringer, Magnum, LongHorn, CR527, Sporter-22, Repeater, Blaze 95, Mosin 9130, IZH-43.Civilian & Police Spawns: MP-133 Shotgun.Civilian, Police, & Military Spawns: Makarov, SKS (limited in mil spawns.)Police & Military Spawns: AKM, AKS-74U, CR75, 1911, PM73 RAK (could also be East crashsite only)Military-only Spawns: AK74, RDG-5 Grenade.East Crashsite-only Spawns: AK101, MP-133 Shotgun with pistol grip.West Crashsite-only Spawns: Steyr AUG Automatic Rifle, M4A1, FNX-45, Amphibia S, Flashbang, M67 Grenade.Shipwreck-only: Flare Gun.Obviously that's up to some variation, but right now I think most of the guns are general enough that they are either clearly civilian, crashsite, or general enough that they'd be used by both the military and police. We definitely should have some specialized police only weapons and more ones that are only a general military spawn.

    DayZ Vehicles MEGATHREAD

This... several of the bigger cities like Nov or Chernogorsk would definitely be more than capable of supporting a few modern cars. The rest of the region seems like it'd be too poor to see too many modern cars around with any degree of significance, but it'd still be possible and should be represented. Also, HMMWVs need to be a military vehicle in the game, considering the wrecks they have lying around.
  25. That's unlikely to be the case - we'll get a fair share of all kinds of guns. The Road is a good movie, but I don't think the pace of DayZ will ever be slowed to the point where one bullet is all you have for the entirety you play, otherwise we may as well just delete half the loot we have now.
