    Brick's 1.7.7 Review

1.7.7: I agree with Gibonez... Zombies in ultra small villages (with one enterable cabin) are still spawning in congo lines and every single one has to enter the house making it simply unlootable. They just keep spawning. This is way out of whack. A totally small group of houses and MORE ZOMBIES THAN CHERNO!?!?!?! Spawning by these houses and being unable to loot a house, which probably just has nothing or tin cans, is unrealistic and immersion breaking. What to do when aggros chase you into the woods? I think from now on, when I can't lose a zombie, I'm just going to see how many I can get and go find a bandit to dump them on. Or just some poor sucker. Even dogs lose interest after a while. It's too unrealistic not to be able to lose zombies. I won't even repeat what I think about infection and lack of medical supplies. Even if you find antibiotics or morphine, you'll only find one. Then what. Use it and your back to playing the death simulator that this patch has created. Harder is one thing. Unbalanced is another. It just feels broken. Melee still busted. Crowbar still stops working sometimes. Please adjust zombies to realistic numbers. They're harder now. We don't need an endless line of spawns in a one house town. EDIT: spelling

The problems I've found so far with 1.7.7

I've listed what I don't like and what I think is unbalanced about 1.7.7. However, I must have been playing on servers with some zombie spawn glitch or something. The amount was simply ridiculous. Now on a different server(s). Less zombies. No where near as bad. However, I was fighting off zombies, IMO agro'd zombies alert far too many now, and my crowbar stopped working. I just got the click. Didn't have enough time of course to try rebelting it and rearming. No other weapon to switch too either. So, I still feel the viral zombies are OP (5-6shots with an m16...really?). Good luck with melee. Melee is broken and getting swarmed is simply not fair if the mechanic doesn't work right. The melee "sweet spot" needs to be enlarged.

    DayZ Mod 1.7.7 Patch

I always avoided pvp. I don't want things to be easy. I love more complicated survival. But I don't want to lie down and wait for 12 zombies to all enter the log cabin before I can loot tin cans. Zombies can: Hit now, hit while running, follow you forever, "sense" you when you are hidden, knock you down, knock you down while they are lying down, can lie on loot, infect you with one hit, take 5-6 shots with an m16 to die, spawn like rabbits on Viagra, and signal others so that if you accidentally agro one there will soon be 12 following you. AND loot has been lowered, no backpacks, and lower rate for melee weapons. Too much. Too unbalanced. The idea might be good, but the implementation is lacking. IMO not a good patch at all.

Thank you SO SO much for this patch

Some of us were ALREADY checking small towns. Now the small towns have more zombies than Cherno!!! I've mentioned this before, but nobody ever addresses it, they just say "Love the patch. Love it all. You can't play!". So again, I've had to wait in the bushes for 12, that's "twelve", zombies to all walk down the street toward me and all go in the log house. That is not a change for the better. Small town spawn rates are too high. There are other problems I've listed elsewhere. My point here is this: The "I love this! It's like the old days" types will shout it from the rooftops, maintaining their "hardcore" status. They will also tell me why I am wrong to not like the patch. They will call me names. I hate to break it to the "real" players, but enough people don't like this patch, more every day, that there will be changes. Don't worry. You can still play 1.7.7 until the end of time if you want to.

Well, according to the "real" dayz players, I guess those of us who are disappointed are either: 1. Run and gunners 2. bad players 4. bambies or noobs 5. anti-survivalists 6. just WRONG Some like this patch. I do not. Others do not. Some love it. But taking an "I was here first kid" kind of attitude regarding gameplay is silly. None of us own the game. Let's just accept that this patch is divisive. Compromises will be made.

    DayZ Mod 1.7.7 Patch

I don't mean to be flip, but this patch has ruined the game for me. Make it harder, count me in. Make it unfun and unbalanced with horrible risk/reward? Not so much. What was a zombie survival simulator is now a death simulator. I'm a super cautious player, but even with all the crouching and crawling around, zombies keep spawning at ridiculous rates, mostly in small villages (how does that make sense?), and converging on my position. All the proactive moving around, in some areas, is hopeless. I had to wait while 12 zombies, one after the other, all went into the basic house on the edge of town. Then it's run in, loot the tin cans, and get out before I get trapped in there by the next wave. Not even remotely entertaining or satisfying. The strong zombies should not be the increased virals. Zombies on the ground should not be able to knock me down when I run around them. Zombies should not sleep on piles of loot aka empty cans. When I first got sick, I hunted meat and made my way to Elektro. It took a bit of time. Oops. Nothing in the hospital. This only encourages KoS as medical supplies are so rare. "Hardcore" players will say good, that I'm not good enough. Or that this is like the old days. Really? This unbalanced patch is like the old days? Simply, all of the zombie related changes, from making them harder to ditch to making increased viral zombies tougher than the others to making them all enter empty buildings, is too much. Add the lack of loot, starting backpack, and difficulty in consistently finding hatchets after spawning, and it's much too much. This does not improve the odds of the standalone doing well. If I were to pick up dayz now for the first time, I'd think it was a nice experiment, but I'd not have the passion that I have garnered for it so far. I hope this is not what the standalone will be like as I was until now a pre-purchase day 1. I know patches are followed by patches that patch those patches. But for me, I'm rolling back pre-1.7.7 until a new patch is released. PS: The game doesn't feel "scarier" to me now. It just feels unbalanced and unfair.

The game you seem to want, a death simulator, will fail in the marketplace. And I hate to surprise you, but the developers don't want it to fail. It's their living. Changes to 1.7.7 will come quickly. A hard game can be balanced and have a realistic risk/reward. If you like it unbalanced like this, then fine. But a great number, as more update to the latest and greatest, will not. Others here, who seem like competent players with their own playing styles, are not enjoying this "new" experience. Still others will continue to say "I'm so hardcore I don't even notice the difference. This is like the old days." Give it some time. I doubt this patch is like the old days. If a game has to lose its "fun" to keep its cred with the "hardcore" audience, then maybe the rest of the audience is right. To

There are about three of these threads going now. I can't rewrite the same thing over and over. But, I am all for difficulty and making the game more involved with surviving. As an earlier person stated, I can go days and days avoiding bandits and zombies. That's just how I play. Cautiously. Getting a good character in and out of pvp areas. And I agree with the earlier post that this patch is just silly. You don't leap from a to z. Either make the zombies harder and leave loot alone or vice versa. Not both. Then, on top of it, add inevitable sickness no matter how careful you are, and again, taking away the usual cure spawns. I have no problem having infection and killing meat and working my way to where basic gear is and hopefully a cure. But when you get infection from the first hit...come on. Maybe some here are the greatest to ever play the game. This game is for the way you want to play. Now it is crawl (which is fine with me) until you are seen from seemingly nowhere (as zombies often spawn like rabbits on Viagra) and run for five miles or get infected and put off dying as long as you can and STILL DEAL WITH KOS HACKERS. And crouching in these high spawn areas is not enough, I am even crawling which I don't mind doing, I like to play cautiously and intelligently, but still a spawn will inevitable see me no matter how stealthy I am. I'm not alone on this thread. This is not even entertaining anymore. It's not that the "zombies are harder"...it's that the game is completely unbalanced now. Not even remotely balanced. A crawling zombie can knock me down as I run around him? Really? And now they congo line into the small houses. Trust me, I can sneak, but even if you can get into one of these houses unseen, you will get trapped before you can leave. There are more zombies in villages, an insane amount, than in larger towns and cities. Simply, you don't increase an enemy five-fold and then take away loot on top of it. If you like that, fine. Good for you. But I am reverting to 1.7.6 and am now not going to be a SA pre-purchase. The SA WILL fail if it is released like 1.7.7. I hope not. I really enjoy this game. People are sick of hearing about it from me. I love all aspects of Dayz, and maybe I don't know the "hard old days", but this patch is too much, not tested enough, too soon. I find it really hard to believe that I'm in the minority. The game needs to be good...not easy no. But good. And this patch is definitely something other than "good". I wasn't KoS before, but now, to get antibiotics, I will be. I used to just take one, rarely two, packs of antibiotics. Now, room permitting, I think I'd take about seven. It is not a zombie survival simulator...it is a death simulator.

The problems I've found so far with 1.7.7

There's a difference between being a challenging patch and being an unbalanced, unfun, unrewarding mess. Sure, crawl around as much as you want, good luck with that. Spend 4 hours to grind a character out only to get killed by a hacker bandit. Fun. Trust me, I love Dayz, I've never played CoD, I don't KoS, but this patch is going to be a problem overall with players. I was a preorder SA buyer for sure and the biggest fan of the vanilla mod. Now, if this is sign of things to come, I think I'll wait. SA will tank if it's like this and I want it to succeed as much as anyone. But on patch day, when I had to wait for a line of 12 zombies, in a small town, to all enter and leave a lowly cabin before I could loot tin cans...well...I got a bad feeling. EDIT: Ways I think would help balance this patch: 1. Viral zeds should not be the stronger ones. 2. Zeds need to lose "superspeed". If one sees me from 100m, I should be able to run away, keeping him at 100m. 3. Loot overall needs to revert to last patch. 4. Now that zeds are more powerful, amount needs to be dialed back. Not up. 5. All of this wouldn't be as bad if there was no hacking. I love survival additions and difficulty, but until hacking is limited again, the risk/reward of spending more time on a character is ruined. Encountered more hacking on secure servers AFTER this patch.

Going to the first village, not city, after respawning and waiting ten minutes as 12 zombies entered and left a cabin in a seemingly endless congo line is a little too much. I don't suck at this game. I am a friendly player. And I still feel the stronger zombies should not be the highly viral ones. The game feels unbalanced. Smarter zombies are good. Stronger zombies are good too. But to seemingly add MORE zombies at the same time, while greatly increasing infection chance, yet lowering chance of finding antibiotics is too one sided. Zombies can still run at superspeed, which is not realistic. After the patch, I've been crawling like a bambie again, but with zombies also changing paths now at will and numbering so many, it's inevitable that you will get spotted and infected. I don't mind getting infected, but cooking meet all the way to a city only to find no antibiotics is killing the risk/reward of this game. I don't mind it being more difficult, it's just very unbalanced against even good and patient players. I've always been a lone wolf and enjoy the survival aspect. Just with all these pro-zombie changes and the loot changes and the Z spawning in greater numbers, zombies still sprinting like Bolt, the Zs are slightly OP. EDIT: Just played two fresh starts. TOO MANY ZOMBIES. It's out of hand. Even small villages are now, oh, about 1000% harder than the NWAF was. I shouldn't see 18 Zs around one corner, ONE CORNER!, in a simple village.

What you guys think about the new update?

Making the viral zombies the toughened ones might not be the best idea. Leave toughened zombies in, but make viral zombies regular zombies. You can't make viral zombies superheroes and not expect everyone to get sick. Antibiotics spawn is "less than ideal." So zombies increase, are tougher, can cause infection with regularity, and yet antibiotics are now almost impossible to find? I got sick, butchered for food, and worked my way to a city, only to find the whole process was a waste of time. Not fun. Also, as a new spawn, I sat and watched no less than 12 zombies, one after the other, walk into the most basic house. That's kind of ridiculous. Zombies are more threatening now, we don't need MORE of them. Especially congo lining into cabins. The risk and reward is out of balance.
