Will dayz sa succeed or fail

DayZ will be at least a modest success. (Hopefully more). 1. Many people don't play the mod. They are waiting for SA. So they aren't bored yet. 2. Many people stopped playing mod due to disliking change/changes with the mod. They are waiting for SA. 3. Many don't play the mod as much as they used to, but will support the SA and Dean for the work he did/is doing. He gave us a great mod for free! 4. Many people still don't know about DayZ. They don't follow the mod scene or alpha releases. There will be fresh people buying it. New PC users every day, etc. 5. Word of mouth will be positive. 6. Less hackers. More reliable servers, etc. 6. Maybe redundant, but when it's available, even if just on Steam, more will be aware and take the plunge. I follow the SA updates and think it is looking good. With a good base game, the team can release new patches with new content. I am glad that a poor game wasn't released to cash in on past hype over the mod. I'm patient.

Back after ~1.5 years, how is DayZ?

You will never find antibiotics again. Go and try.

    DayZ 1.8 Feedback

Bug? Sorry if this is old news but more than once I have gone from running or crouch running to a crawling position and out of nowhere I've gotten 3 simultaneous bleeds instantly. Once it happened in an industrial area and once in the woods. I don't know if it was on the same server. But this happened in 1.8.x vanilla.

    DayZ 1.8 Feedback

Is this supposed to happen now?: I logged out behind a house in a village and when I logged back on, no loot at all. Nowhere. I logged out just outside Elektro and when I logged back on, no loot at all. AT ALL. I checked the entire city. I've found loot when starting...I use random spawn. Don't get me started on choices... But it seems, as above, when I log on by a town, the entire town has no loot at all. I even waited long enough for respawns. Anyone else having this issue??? It makes it useless to stop and restart a session apparently.
  5. I've been choosing random spawns. Personally, I don't like the new spawn choice. Why was this even done? No need for it in vanilla at all imo. Just add more random spawn points.

Facts of patch 1.8 - loot is nonsense

OK. My take on food: 1. There is seemingly too much food for hunger purposes. 2. If trying to raise a blood level, there actually isn't enough. No matter how much I eat, even protein items, I can't get my blood to regenerate at all. Are there numbers for blood regen with all the items including new (milk, stew, pork, etc.)? I'd like to see the numbers.

    DayZ 1.8 Feedback

OK. I've played more and here's three things I've found/want to restate: 1. Bleeding out seems way too fast now. See number 2. 2. I thought there was too much food at starting areas (I use random spawn), but I've changed my mind. No matter how much I eat, I don't see any blood regeneration. And I do make sure not to eat too fast. 3. I can still lie and watch three zombies all entering a cabin right after each other. And if I enter an empty cabin, I can get two zombs entering behind me that I did not see outside. This is number three because I realize that flares could help. I posted previously. I do like a lot of 1.8. But the blood thing is my biggest concern.

    DayZ 1.8 Feedback

I didn't care for the last two patches and basically stopped playing and played more of other games. (not other mods...I only play vanilla). But this patch is very good imo so far in my experience. I LOVE the swapping melee with firearms mechanic. Now, even with a rifle, we can still use a hatchet/bat/crowbar to remain quiet. Seems like I bleed out faster now? Not necessarily a bad thing mind you. But see below for my experience with blood regeneration. I don't know if I have gotten a virus yet. Haven't gotten any coughs. But is there a HUD notification for when we have been exposed? I read the notes but, if there's no notification (and maybe there is), how do I know I need to get on the ball and find antibiotics? I see there are three stages, but my question is are these noted on the HUD? I realize that in real life you wouldn't know if you've been exposed, at least not right away. Haven't crafted anything yet but the loot seems interesting. I've seen bricks, crates, duct tape. I'll have to look for a write up on what can be crafted. The new inventory is very nice. Much easier to load and change bpacks. Loot spawns are nice now. Easier to find food and drink than guns. Makes more sense imo. Maybe too much food? Drinks seem about right. I'm finding 6 foods to about 1 drink. I don't know if antibiotics are more "plentiful". I played 14 hours of 1.7.2 and never found a one. (This was the main reason I stopped playing.) I hope they are. The previous patches made the game into "find antibiotics" or bandit for them. Health regeneration for solo players seems slower. (again, maybe I had a virus as well?). I had no red left in my hud icon and ate four cans of beans, a can of stew, and pistachios but my level didn't raise at all. At least not visibly. I still remained in the b/w heartbeat state. I'd still like to see solo players able to get some regeneration from self-administered blood bags. Maybe just make the regen higher for player to player use? I haven't noticed the "ant lines" of zombs entering cabins, which was present before and made cabins impossible to loot. And before, that usually meant tin cans. So basically, to put it simply, I'm playing Dayz again. I've seen many such comments on youtube, etc. I think this patch is great for the game. The last two patches made me feel that a new player would just give up. I would have. But this very good now.

Inside train station. Bandit ran in. I zigzagged outside the front door, to the left, and waited to shoot him with my handgun. Sure enough, he came out. But I had my "throw" on and threw a tin can at him instead. I died.

    Finally found antibios then......

Yep. The mod has changed from a survival simulator into playing hide and seek to find the antibiotics. What fun...
  11. I encounter those problems, but usually when I use a server from another country. I'm in the US so I search for servers including "US" in the server name. I've found about 15 servers that I use without problems. I'd use one of the 3rd party server programs. I use DAYZCOMMANDER. My Arma is on Steam. Daycommander makes updates easy.
  12. You are a troll. You don't address the real issues we have and just try and make "clever" remarks directed at those of us that aren't blind to real problems.
  13. I don't mean to be mean. But the fanboys, in this thread, like any thread talking about the latest patch, say "harder is better". The problem IS NOT that the game is HARDER. Like I've said before, playing solitaire with a deck of 46 cards would ALSO be HARDER. That doesn't make it right or playable or fun or a good simulation. Nobody said the game "should play itself" but obviously 1.7.7 had some...issues. THAT IS WHY THE HOTFIX came out SO FAST! Not because people want an easier game. I don't mind a harder game at all. But it must be "BALANCED". And yes, newsflash, even "hard" games need to be "fair". I told many people not to buy Arma to play DayZ mod based on 1.7.7. It was in my opinion broken and extremely unforgiving to NEW PLAYERS. I told them to wait for the standalone. I've been playing DayZ for a good long time BUT I can TELL when a patch is overall BAD. I could make ANY game "harder" without being fair. Example: Add 6 ghosts to Pac-Man and make the power dots only work half of the time. Or take them away altogether. THAT WOULD BE "DIFFICULT" but unfair to new players. Unfair to any players. They think everything is a pissing contest about their epeen size. If you can't see why 1.7.7 was bad, then I'd just as soon do without you. Because, directly or indirectly, you would continue to ruin the mod by accepting CONTRIVED DIFFICULTY. If you don't know "contrived" then look it up. In a dictionary. Thank god that not everyone is a developer. THANK GOD! Should ALL LOOT BE TAKEN AWAY? That would be more "difficult". That's kinda what many here are accepting. Sure, a real apocalypse would be nearly unwinnable. But this is a game. Should I assume many here would like to play "knock down the brick house with your heads"? Because that would be difficult too. READ WHAT PEOPLE ARE WRITING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We aren't saying the game should be EASY. We are saying the game needs to make sense. You all must be crying your eyes out over 1.7.7.1. NEWSFLASH: It's still harder than it was and in 16 hours I've seen no antibiotics ANYWHERE. Not in cities. Not on farms. Not in industrial areas. That's insane. I'll probably find a GPS before I find antibs. People here, who seem to think the more posts you have makes you a "real player", need to remember: YOU ARE A VOCAL MINORITY. NOT THE MAJORITY. Oh, and KLESH, if you think Rocket meant he wants the SA to be an unplayable mess...use a dictionary and look up what he said. I'm pretty sure he meant that it will have a learning curve and be somewhat "involved" as far as mechanics go. Meaning it won't be Bejeweled. He didn't mean he wants zombies to knock you down from a mile away or glitch through walls or make essential loot nearly vacant. Trust me. His investors and even he want the game to be playable. This is a business and not a charity for the epeen braggarts. And I think you need to investigate the word "balanced". I think you are confused.
  14. OP is right. Game risk/reward needs to be balanced. And I love those "in the know" who say Rocket wants the SA to be "inaccessible". LOL. I think you misunderstand the meaning. He doesn't mean make the game "unfair". No one would play it. He'd be the worst businessman in the world. 1.7.7 broke the mod. 1.7.7.1 is moving in the right direction. "Balanced" in the game world does not mean "easy". Go read up on it. If I'm playing a board game and my opponent gets up and punches me in the face, that is "unfair". Unfair doesn't make a good game. All the hardcore epeens need to realize THERE IS A REASON that 1.7.7.1 came out so fast. Think about it.

    Fix the hosptials?

I agree with OP. 16 hours in and I still have never found antibiotics. Not in any of the buildings, including hospitals. They simply need to spawn more. I mean before, if in a city, I'd go and get a pack just to have a complete inventory. But never got sick except once when I didn't boil water. Sickness goes up. Antibs go down. Doesn't make a lick of sense. Since in 16 hours I've never found them in either an urban or rural environment, I usually end the game. Am I going to find them after 17 hours? Maybe. But that is a sad sad ratio. They shouldn't be everywhere. But they should be somewhere. There should be someplace to go with a good chance of having them. Am I going to hunt and eat for 17 hours straight just to find them? Finding antibs is like a gps used to be.

    Zombies in Starysober

Um. The OP addressed 1.7.7+ zombie spawning. I can find more zombs in a one enterable house town than I can in Electro. I often see two lines. TWO LINES. Of never-ending zomb spawns that BOTH end inside the one enterable house. This makes the house unlootable. I don't think this was intended. There is a problem. It ruins the game because it is "unrealistic" to the game world. Zomb spawns should make sense. That's all we are saying. Zombs camping loot is retarded as well. It COULD happen, but not to the degree that it does. You can try waiting at these high spawn areas, waiting for the five visible zombs to all enter a building and leave, but OH, HERE COMES FIVE MORE! Repeat.

    1.7.* Infection WIP Update

Still think antibiotics need to be more available. Simply, we used to have almost zero sickness and lots of dependable resources. Now, tons of sickness and almost zero resources. I've logged 14 hours into 1.7.7.1 and have NEVER seen antibiotics. Might as well just get rid of them all together. Simply, playing "bleed out" is only so much "fun" for so long. I used to play, in earlier patches, characters through until their dying breath. Now, with sickness, I just walk away from the game until I die. Or find some zombs to finish me off. Is this what was intended? Because it seems that way. I can keep looking for antibs, but why? When after 14 hours I've never seen them. Was that intended too? I did the "eat any animal I find" thing and kept looking, but that only works when you have a knife. Oh, but those rarer now too. I don't mind "difficulty". But increasing one mechanic, sickness, and taking away resources at the same time, is just contrived "difficulty". I can't wrap my head around it. Do one but not both. This is my opinion. It won't change. So please, no epeen comments.
  18. If memory serves, I'm getting it with a gun i.e. handgun. Get hit and can't run until I get hit again.
  19. Zombie spawning, especially in small villages, is still ridiculous. The never ending spawn lines all heading for the one or two enterable buildings is just silly. They act like army ants heading for a sugar cube. This isn't "harder". It's just obviously a bug. It wouldn't be so bad if hatchets weren't so sparse. Make the game harder, but don't take away necessary gear at the same time. This is contrived difficulty solely for the sake of difficulty. It doesn't make the game more realistic or a better simulation. It makes it a tedious and unfun experience. And I love survival. Sigh...and I guess I need to make this clear as well: I'M NOT A COD KID. But this new gameplay HAS made me more apt to KoS. In a real apocalypse, as food and liquid become more scarce, people would start killing to survive. Are small towns SUPPOSED to have more zombies than Cherno? Risk/reward is still damaged. Let the epeen responses commence...

Will the SA Ever Feel like This?

I think more enterable buildings will add to that "learning dayz" feeling you speak of. It will feel more real once you can enter most structures. So will small changes to the map, like more northern areas to explore. Looting cars will be neat. I think the more options for clothing, helmets, etc. will increase game immersion as well. I know the early SA won't have vehicles, but I never really saw the point of them. Except for biks, atvs and motorbikes, as going off road feels more like "dayz" to me. I really liked when boiling water was added to the game. Just that one small mechanic made a lot of difference IMO as far as game immersion. I like the new combining ammo and flares as well. Haven't gotten to dig a stash yet, but I like where that is going. New content will be pumped into the basic SA with updates. This excites me. I hope there will be something that pertains to hunting. I often like going into the woods to survive in between my runs into higher pvp areas for other supplies and gear. But,as we've seen, added "difficulty" needs to be balanced. Creating zombie superheroes while then placing less axes in the game is moving the right side UP and the left side DOWN. It created a disparity where there wasn't one before. Zombies camping loot is still a big problem. I won't get into more of my 1.7.7 feelings. We are discussing the SA here I know. But if the SA remains balanced while adding new "difficulties", I think that the learning curve will still be satisfying. I'm still learning new ways of confronting and defending myself against bandits. Like today, I forgot to "f" off of "throw" and when a bandit surprised me in the train depot, I got away. But I waited outside to shoot him in the head, and I threw a can instead. LOL.

    To Everyone Complaining About 1.7.7

I don't doubt that. I'm not sure how long you've been playing, but there certainly are KoS snipers and killer bandits. Judging from the way the latter are geared, I'm convinced that they are gearing on lower patch servers and then playing 1.7.7.1. And it's worse getting shot now, because of the work and time spent surviving. All that time just to get shot. I also suspect they are getting off on it more, because they know that we are trying harder. As people get used to the new zombies...hopefully loot campers will be fixed...there WILL be more KoS. Supplies will be the name of the game. I was NEVER KoS...never had to be...but there are now times that, if I had at least an axe, I'd go for the kill just to get that extra bandage. The new play has made me that way.

    To Everyone Complaining About 1.7.7

Tek, don't let these "dayz was too easy" guys get to you. They can't or won't admit the game has immersion breaking behavior now. All they care about is getting rid of the "cod kids" and they lump us all into that group, disregarding our valid points. They make every excuse they can to "EXPLAIN" away any issues the patch has. They will continue to make silly comments like we aren't good enough players. As if that has anything to do with broken zomb behavior and contrived difficulty. IMO ignoring problems and loving a patch with those problems makes them fanboys who think dayz is theirs and they don't like it being a popular game. For them, it's like a band you liked when they are "unpopular". Then they write a hit and get all kinds of new fans. They want everyone to know that they liked the band back when it was "unpopular". They don't like the new song and the new fans OR the new band. And no matter how bad a new song is, it's ok with them as long as the new fans move on to something else. In this case though, we aren't moving on. WE WANT DAYZ TO BE THE BEST IT CAN BE. And that is why we "complain". We don't want a game with so many issues that new players can't play it. Let alone find an axe. PS: The game is more of a KoS NOW than it was. With loot spawning in a weird way...240 ammo in a barn but no axe...people now want supplies more than ever.
  24. What an intelligent post! I agree with PongoZ: Liking a bad patch does not make you "hardcore" or a "man". It's posts like yours that aren't worth the space they take up.
  25. But zombies should not BE ADDED. I should alert all the zombies WITHIN HEARING. If I shoot a gun, obviously all the zombs within hearing should run at me. But it should also take them different amounts of time. They shouldn't all arrive at the same time when they were different distances away. If an area has 12 zombies within hearing, 12 should attack me when I shoot a gun, say a mak. 24 shouldn't show up just to punish the player. AM I making sense? I think you are missing what I am saying. Simply, shooting a gun should not CREATE zombies. It should attract zombies.
