Awesome game, and its gone be more awesomeness !
need matches replied to Lectoor's topic in General Discussion
Welcome! New people playing is great. Many great improvements in the alpha already. Sometimes I want it to be perfect NOW. But I know I need to be patient. The SA alpha reminds me of first playing the mod in a lot of ways. I agree this is gonna be awesome as time goes on! -
I had this too. I didn't really notice it until after a while since using a bandage for bleeding. I figure it's supposed to be for low blood/pain. But maybe there is a bug?

Needing a can opener to open a can is pathetic
need matches replied to dayzhopeful's topic in General Discussion
Even though you can use "sharp" objects now apparently...haven't gotten to try it yet...the can openers should be much easier to find as loot behavior is adjusted. -
I know this is SA alpha. For me, outside melee works MUCH better. And I think the inside speed of zombies is very good. BUT, and I know this may change, zombies seem to know where you are even after getting two turns ahead of them. They seem a little too smart in this respect. Love the SA so far though!

READ THIS - The truth on the hunger/thirst issue

I'll just say this: We should begin the game fully quenched and full. I hope Dean and the team make this change. -
Opinion on the Standalone from a DayZ newcomer but longtime lurker (youtube/here)
need matches replied to SodapopVII's topic in General Discussion
I imagine all of these issues will be addressed. I kinda hate to say it, because different mod updates have changed my opinions in the past, but the SA alpha zombies behavior is great IMO. Sprint away from them by double-tapping "w". Run through buildings with multiple exits. Zig zag up hills so they have to walk. Melee is a WAY better experience when outside. Zombies no longer zig zag around like UFOs and they don't magically sprint closer to you from a distance anymore when you are running. -
Servers NEED to be searchable by game-time.
-
Believe it or not, the melee is WAY better in the SA alpha right now than the mod.

Keep it Hard....... a thoughtful request.

Agree, especially with server time issue. People, especially newbies, who have paid good money and taken a leap of faith to buy the SA alpha should AT LEAST get the same type of server time choice as in the mod. The way the alpha is now with loot and such, I feel that newcomers should have the choice of getting the BEST first experience. I like the SA. But I feel the daytime looks WAY more impressive for a first impression. And obviously it's the best way to learn the game. Night is simply too frustrating right now. -
Suggestion: Small choice of starting player gear.
need matches replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I don't agree. BUT I really think we should start out fully quenched. Not sure why the SA starts us out thirsty. -
DayZ Standalone download issues!!!!!!!
need matches replied to CommanderDayZ's topic in General Discussion
Sounds more like a Steam issue. -
Here is my take as a longtime mod player: Please don't give me that "use your flashlight" and "this is dayz" or "I'm hardcore" jazz. Let's not start another one of those "debates" here. Have some mercy on the newbies. They took a leap of faith in buying into the alpha SA. 1. People that have paid good money to support the alpha should AT LEAST get a choice of server times like the mod. 2. For first impressions, the game looks more impressive during the day. Give people a great first impression. 3. I'd hate to be new to the game and load up my first game ever and play night. ESPECIALLY when loot needs serious tweaking. Everything is picked over near spawns and REMEMBER that you start out thirsty now! For a newbie, especially in nighttime, the game is ALL about finding liquid. When you are new, you don't know where to go in the distance for loot. MY Point is that daytime is the best way to LEARN the game e.g. melee, learn what wells look like, learn where loot is, learn how to lose zombies, learn the map, etc. Tonight was my last try playing the SA alpha, in its current state, at night. Like I said, the loot issue makes it darn near unplayable. Did I mention that alpha supporters should get the same choice as the mod? I believe that newbies should get the most impressive first impression. Especially the way things are now, nighttime is not it.

Can't wait for loot spawning to be tweaked! I'll be so happy!

This game is going to be so god damn good a year from now.
need matches replied to koreanoverlord's topic in General Discussion
I'll be so excited when loot and hunger and thirst rates get tweaked. I'm pretty close to feeling able to recommend the alpha. I'm seeing lots of new players, so that is awesome. -
Short feedback after 13 hours of playing
need matches replied to sethz's topic in General Discussion
I'm happy with the alpha too. And the quickness with which the first update was released. I can't wait for more issues to be addressed with the next update. It will only get better. Not to gush like a fanboy, but I'm happy the game is selling so well. When I first saw the trailer in my FB feed, I was totally pumped. I bought it not more than three minutes later. I wish great success to Dean and the team! -
Server screen needs to include server time and also allow the filter to search for day/night. I am seeing people getting frustrated with just finding nighttime servers when they can only play during certain times of day. The server times need to "loosen up" and offer a variety of times, like the mod IMO. I feel bad for newbies being introduced to the game during nighttime. I'm a mod player and even I didn't like the SA nighttime when I first played. After some daylight playing and getting used to the game, I don't mind nighttime so much. Right now I think this is turning some people off when they should instead be having fun for supporting the alpha. I just think daytime gives a better first impression. My first mod play was during the day. And the day in the SA looks fantastic.

Me too Hells High. Haven't tried pond water yet. If pond water doesn't make you sick now, I'm sure this will be added. Then, if not already, the purification tablets will be necessary. Or you'll be taking a risk with getting sick.

For what it's worth, the inventory screen now has "temporary" thirst and hunger color coded meters. It's just to the right of the avatar model. Like others, I've found that once you have your fill of food and drink (the color coded meters will disappear), you'll be good for much longer. But yeah, I think the whole process needs tweaking. It takes too much drink at least, once you are quite thirsty, to be fully quenched. Four or five cans of soda is a little much IMO. And with loot spawning a little wonky, I just find passed over damaged cans of food. But I like the SA overall.
-
I feel bad for the newbies with loot being the way it is right now. I know this will be fixed most likely with next update though. But yes. I like the new blood. Newbies are very welcome IMO. The SA has a neat vibe right now. I've encountered the random axe murderer (wannabe) but the new buildings and towns and new players gives a fresh feel to the game. It's cool to see new people learning the game. There are a lot of people on the fence about buying the alpha (on steam forums). I tell them to do some research and of course be aware that this is indeed an alpha. But with another update or two, I think I'll be able to safely actually recommend the alpha to newbies.

i starved to death because i couldnt open my canned sardines
need matches replied to carsongif's topic in General Discussion
I died from hunger with 8 cans of food. :( -
All things considered, I like it. I like the controls which seem quicker. Daytime looks awesome. I love the load times! I'm just very excited overall. And I'm about to try the new update which addresses some of my issues. Like the health meters vs. the text messages and the can opener issue. And an update the next day is awesome!

Rocket: Could you pin an "official" thread on the Steam forum pointing here for update release notes? Or maybe post them on Steam? Right now it's just helpful users posting links to here in random threads
-
This happened to me the first time I played. I was "black girl". But after that, everything works fine for me now. My default stays where I put it and it is working between servers and after death.
-
Right now, for me, all servers seem to be on the same timeline. What about people that work well into the evening, they should be able to search for offset gmt servers. Note that I'm not advocating 24/7 day/night servers. I guess my question is, will there be more variety in server times in the future?

Dear Dean and team: I think there is some confusion regarding the new update on Steam. This could be cleared up by either "Officially" posting the release notes on Steam as well. Or at least officially posting a "pinned" or "sticky" note with the link to the info on here. Right now, on Steam, it's just random helpful users posting the link to here. I just think this would help get users on the "same page". PS: So excited to play the update!
