This is good stuff. I agree with OP, with the sole exceptions mentioned by gews. But still irrelevant, IMO. As said in another thread, there is just NO POINT until magical, nonsensical, randomized dispersion is eliminated or, at the very least, relegated to ONLY weapons that are not in pristine condition. -

Frankly, I find the entire debate completely irrelevant. Performance characteristics between these "similar" calibers IS roughly the same, but not EXACTLY the same. From a development standpoint, I get it, and understand why. And I am a gun aficionado myself. I could do without the exact, proper calibers in game, even if I would PREFER (in a perfect world where I get everything I want) to have the proper calibers put in. But that's not why I find the debate irrelevant. I could go either way honestly. I find it irrelevant because as long as we continue to have randomized dispersion I REFUSE to play the game. I continue to pop into the forums to follow the development, but I have stopped playing because of this. When I (in game) shoot a target and do so with proper aim (and, depending on the type of target, with proper, superior positioning), I expect to be rewarded with a successful hit. Be it another player, or a zombie, or just a spot on a wall I decided to try and hit. In addition, when another player does the same to ME, I EXPECT to be punished by injury or death for allowing myself to fall under his or her sights, either through inferior maneuvering, awareness, or even simply LUCK. That we still have this, and whats more, that some people actually want it to STAY that way, blows my mind. I just don't get why anyone would want randomized accuracy. Incorporate a mechanic, such as sway, that requires skillfull compensation, and/or sight elevation AS WELL as windage adjustmants, and then you will have skillfull shooting. I hate that it can be based entirely on LUCK, rather than actuall skill. Until (if) this is fixed, I just don't care. -
So, any word yet on when/if we will get realistic (not random) balistics?

Anybody? One of the major issues I have that is preventing me from playing right now is the random dispersal of shots seen with every weapon in game. It irritates me to no end that I can NOT establish an accurate grouping with my shots. I really hope that they at least PLAN to fix that, but if they don't at some point, I seriously doubt I will ever be able to bring myself to play this game with any frequency. When (in IRL) I shoulder a rifle for the first time, having never fired THAT rifle before, and not having the sights (be they iron or scope) already adjusted to my eyes and method of holding the weapon, I may not be able to hit the "bullseye", but I WILL have a tight grouping somewhere on the target, which I can then use to adjust the sights to move that grouping to the center of the target. In the military, we call this "Battle Sight Zeroing", or BZO for short (most of you are probably already aware of that, but this is for those that aren't). This is because even though the sights are not yet properly aligned to MY eyesight and weapon handling, the rifle itself will, baring any defects or maintenance issues or really bad ammunition, nearly ALWAYS fire the projectile in the same manner and angle if I take the time to take well aimed shots. I.E. If the weapon is fired once, and the bullet hits a particular spot, firing the weapon again from the EXACT same angle and position will put the second bullet through the first shot hole, or if not, VERY close to it (creating a wider hole, an effect known as a "keyhole"). Other factors, including air pressure, windage, and even humidity can cause deviation, especially at extreme ranges, but at ranges from 100 to 500 meters, the effect tends to be very slight, and in the case of wind, easily compensated for. Randomizing the shot groupings detracts from actual skillful shooting, and is insulting to the players; including those that understand the fundamentals of marksmanship, those that desire a more "hardcore" realistic experience, as well as those the more casual types. By keeping it this way, you remove the actual challenge of taking a well placed shot, and make a successful one based purely on luck. If I hit my target 300 meters away with a Mosin, it isn't because I took a good shot. Its because I centered my crosshairs on the target and clicked the button and got lucky that THIS TIME the bullet hit where I thought I was aiming. Many might argue that our characters aren't crack military troops with years of training. You might be right. But you might be wrong. Where does it specifically SAY that EVERY new spawn doesn't have some marksmanship experience at SOME point in his or her life? The way I see it, if the player knows how to shoot a weapon accurately, then so does his character. If the player doesn't, then his character doesn't, and must therefore learn by doing (which is EXACTLY what people in this situation WOULD be doing realistically), which would enhance the overall experience for them. Nothing should be handed to anyone. Knowledge should be earned, either by personal experience, or through research, or by experimentation. Christ, I came here to ask about any news about realistic ballistics, and ended up going on a rant....sorry.- 43 replies

So you mean to tell me that the great King of Heroes deems a lowly BICYCLE a worthy steed? Pah! For me, nothing less then a fully armed, and fueled AH-1 Attack Cobra, presented to me at the moment of my spawning, will suffice! *sarcasm. I agree. Bikes rule.

IF YOU AGREE WITH THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT, PLEASE SIGN YOUR SUPPORT BELOW. IF YOU DISAGREE, AND WANT TO HAVE THESE FEATURES, PLEASE REFRAIN FROM COMMENTING ON IT HERE. YOU CAN DO SO ELSEWHERE. THIS THREAD IS FOR THOSE THAT DO NOT WANT THESE FEATURES. To the development team: I and all those that sign their support below, specifically request that you do NOT implement any feature that involves nudity, scat, or piss. While realistic, we must at some point draw the line that borders between fun gameplay, and needles tedium. Furthermore, the addition of said features will allow for the possibility of in game behavior (which will almost certainly occur, and be uncontrollable) which is not only immature in the extreme, but disgusting and offensive. While it can be said that such acts would be no more or less offensive than murder, which is also part of the current system, I would argue that we are once again crossing a line into what is blatantly excessive and unnecessary. It is one thing to have a player shoot me in the head execution style. Death in entertainment media is nothing new. It is another entirely to have scat being thrown around or forced in my throat, or even simply being forced to endure a cheesy animation in which a player squats over me and "does his thing". I come to this game, even during its earliest Alpha stage, to have fun and be entertained. I do not come here for tits and ass (or dicks), to watch my character pinch off a loaf in a bush, or to have other players be enabled to play out bizarre and disgusting sexual acts on me. You and anyone else here, sans the mods, are not the "forum police" Everyone DOES have a right to expose their ideas, ME INCLUDED. And I DO realize this is the suggestions forum, and my suggestion, to the devs, is to NOT IMPLEMENT THESE FEATURES. They contribute nothing gameplay wise, aside from being a new tool for immature, disgusting, and depraved trolling. -
"Infection disease is a big deal in DayZ. A very big deal. It is likely it will be more of a fear than zombies themselves. It could even become a form of weapon." This is bullshit, no pun intended. If this feature is implemented, I WILL uninstall. Mr. Hall, MARK MY WORDS. IF you do this, you will accomplish two things: #1, a large portion of the player base, myself included, will stop playing the game (I WILL flat out uninstall the day this feature is released). These are the people that take the game seriously and play the game in a manner that RESPECTS the game and what it is/does/offers to us when we play. #2, You will have essentially said to the community, "I ENCOURAGE immature, sexualized, disgusting and depraved griefing." The few players remaining that are willing to tolerate this feature will soon leave in disgust, causing the entire (or vast majority of) player base to consist of a community that has NO respect for this game and what it has, until now, been about. This is a perfect example of taking realism too far. Ok, I searched, did not find. So here it is. We need some server restart warnings. I am really kinda tired of getting logged out involuntarily while climbing ladders, on the roofs of buildings, or in the middle of the tarmac of the airfield. I am also tired of logging into servers and having it restart 30 seconds later (just happened to me 3 times in a row). This suggestion isn't made in anger (frustration, on the other hand..), so don't attack me for "whining". I am aware that the game is in alpha, but frankly I think this feature is an absolute necessity, and should be implemented A-S-A-P. I would like to see, at minimum, 15, 10, 5, and 1 minute warnings before restarts. In addition, please make it so that server admins that initiate a server restart, also initiate a 15 minute countdown that CANNOT be avoided, or aborted. Sign if you approve. Beans are not necessary, just sign (shows approval/support and bumps thread for continued exposure). Signing your approval indicates not only your desire for this feature, but a request that it be implemented ASAP. SIGN DAMN YOU!!!

currently, ALL weapons have a random dispersion. Gews addressed this issue, which was acknowledged by Dean, and it will be fixed eventually, giving us more realistic ballistics. Its not just the dispersion either, but also trajectories and speed that is unrealistic.

Lets be clear here. I do not mean an EXPLOITER, that is to say, someone abusing a mechanic that exists in game. I refer of course to hackers, or script kiddies, or whatever. Minimum of 24 hours of game play required for answer to be valid. I base this exact time on the assumption that 24 hours is enough time to possibly encounter one. I base this assumption on absolutely nothing. I also have no means of preventing those with less than 24 hours of gameplay from answering the poll. My answer is no. And I have 173 hours of gameplay (jesus. I just realized that this means I have already played this game for an amount of time totaling to over 7 days).

Server name: CrazyKages house | Vilayer.com The server is based in Chicago (im in Michigan). Just bear in mind, the challenge basically means "here I am, come and get me." ANYONE can come, together, alone, one at a time, or all at once. Rules: 1: This is a fight to the death. If I see you, I will make every effort to kill you. You should do the same. 2: I WILL be recording. If you do not want to be recorded, don't come. 3: The event stops when I am dead, or when I am done playing (assuming I last that long). 4: You may come alone, or in groups. I will be alone. Do NOT come thinking to offer to team up with me. I will be assuming that everyone I see is hostile, and will act accordingly. 5: I cannot enforce this rule, but I CAN ask that those participating refrain from using any VOIP that is not ingame, in the name of fair play and sportsmanship. I do not have a radio on my character, so I will be unable to listen in on any one's comms. This event has begun. God help you.

I have decided to make this into another Cobra Commander hunt, which will be the premise of the event.
