1. Don't get attached to your gear, your friends, or your life. 2. Don't cross into danger zones (open areas). If you MUST, or going around them is not feasible, do so as quickly as possible. Don't sneak. Don't crawl. RUN. 3. NWAF, NEAF, and Balota are all danger zones. Spend as little time there as possible. Move fast. Get in. Get gear. Get out. If someone IS there with you, they fall into one of two categories: friendly (not a threat), or unfriendly. If they are there, and they want to kill you, odds are they are not looting, but hunting. Which means they are already there, watching, waiting for you to cross their line of sight. So: MOVE FAST. The faster you move, the less time you are there, and the less chance you have of being spotted (on average). If you DO get spotted, you will be either creeping slowly along (pointless. Sniper was already waiting for you, and you gave him an easy shot), or you are running full sprint, and will be harder to hit. If he misses, you have been alerted to is presence, and can attempt to flee. 4. The bush in front of you is nothing but a bush. Except when it isn't. ANYWHERE could be an ambush waiting for you (read my sig). 5. If you become surrounded, take heart: You now know exactly where your enemy is, and they cant get away from you! 6. Retreating is just fighting in a different direction. 7. Use small backpacks. They provide a smaller visible profile, and a smaller target to hit. It also means that the asshole that kills you wont get as much gear. 8. If you don't personally know the person you see, they are a potential threat. Whatever you do to them or don't do, remember that, and be prepared to accept the consequences of your actions. 9. There is no spoon......or forks. ONLY KNIVES! 10. If you see an open door, it means someone has been there. 11. If you see a closed door, it means someone MIGHT have been there. 12. There is no cake. It was all a horrible lie. 13. Zombies spawn in Black Forest. 14. Do not run ON the roads. Run on the SIDES of the roads. Preferably, in the trees where available. 15. When cresting a hill, do so in the lowest profile possible (prone). Be aware of the flow of the terrain, and use it to your advantage. 16. The high ground lets you see all around, but also lets all around see you. 17. The ashwood bow, though awesome, is currently mostly useless. 18. Chernogorsk has a lot of high locations from which a sniper can easily hide. If there are no snipers, YOU can easily snipe from them. 19. Its fine to KOS. Just be ready for a large portion of the community to hate you for it. 20. Its alpha. Don't expect ANYTHING. Just have fun. 21. Quality over quantity: a single, accurate and lethal shot is just as good as the one that hit out of 50 poorly aimed ones. 22. Don't underestimate the usefulness of 50, poorly aimed shots in the general direction of your opponent. Suppression is a useful tactic in the right situation. 23. The most important thing in the game, more important, and more frequently used than any other thing, is water. Thus, ponds and wells are good spots to watch when hunting. 24. GO WEST YOUNG MAN!!! 25. Don't go near Lopatino. That's where I huntI MEAN LIVE! 26. Check behind you. OFTEN. 27. The weapon you want will never spawn. When it does, the ammo/items you need wont. The weapon you trade it for will follow the same rule. 28. If 27 turns out to be wrong, you have defied the laws of physics. The universe will immediately seek to rectify they wrong by killing you, either with a glitch, another player, or something else. Count your days, for they are numbered. 29. This is alpha. 30. This is alpha. 31. Don't get attached to your gear. 32. This is alpha.

TO: Caitlin and any other female playing this game, experiencing problems with the community:
crazykage posted a topic in General Discussion
I couldn't help but notice your thread about equality (which has now been closed by boneboys). I read your post, but not the rest of the thread. I knew full well what it would degrade into, and didn't bother (it took longer than I expected, but then again it wasn't a matter of if, but when). This will likely get closed as well, but I hope it reaches you and the rest of the females before then. Anyway, allow me to introduce myself, and tell you a relevant story (not about DayZ, but still relevant). It is a long read, but I assure you it is worth your time. My name is Tom. I am a prior service United States Marine Corps Corporal, Honorably discharged after 4 years of active duty and 2 1/2 in the reserves. Early in my service, in fact only a few weeks after completing boot camp, I was sent to Camp Pendleton for my basic infantry training. While there, a platoon of female Marines happened to be sent through the infantry course, which lasts a month, along with mine and 3 other platoons. All Marines, regardless of MOS (military occupational specialty) must experience infantry training, while those who are ACTUAL infantrymen experience a longer course. Near the end of the month's training, one of the last exercises was a 15 kilometer "hump", as we call it (forced march). This little jaunt across the base required us to carry our flak jacket, Kevlar helmet, rifle, and rucksack with all of our gear (all weighing just over 100 pounds). If one fell out of his platoon and got too tired to continue, they would be loaded into the back of a truck, and later would be forced to make the attempt again the following day (failing a second time meant starting the entire month over). I am a six foot, two inches tall gigantic freak of nature. I literally laughed as I marched the entire time, leaning forward and stretching out my legs in a massive stride that easily carried me the entire 15 k. I breathed the fresh air, enjoyed the scenery, and all around enjoyed myself. But I was mostly alone in that. You see, MY platoon was the last one in the line. As we marched along, first by ones, then by twos, stragglers from the platoons ahead, exhausted from the march, started to fall back, eventually so much that we passed them. But one person in particular caught my attention. It was a female Marine (the only female we had seen to fall out thus far). As the platoons behind her began to pass her by, I could hear shouts of encouragement (don't give up, oohrah, etc etc). The female platoon being the first in line, and ours last, I knew she had fallen far behind. But I was surprised to see her so long into the march. Not because I had been expecting her or another female to fall out sooner. But because when I DID see her, I was THEN surprised she hadn't fallen out sooner. As said, I am six feet tall. I carried my weight and my gear easily. But THIS Marine was, I swear, 4 feet tall. Carrying the same weight as me. On short legs. On a small, wiry frame. I could have literally picked her up and THROWN her with little effort. By now I was starting to feel a little fatigued myself, but I was nowhere near exhaustion. But this girl. This woman. This MARINE, had lasted that long, longer than some men twice her size, and was STILL going strong. I was shocked, impressed, and inspired all at once. I gave her a shout of encouragement as I passed, then continued marching and didn't look back. At the end of the march, we had reached the barracks (our stopping point), and were all sitting down in the parking lot, waiting for the last of the stragglers. One by one all the guys (none of the other female marines had fallen out) that fell out crested the hill to come into the lot. Lastly, the "pussy truck", as we came to call it (the one that picked up all those who could not or would not continue) pulled into the lot. I watched as the people inside all climbed out and joined us. The female Marine was not among them... So, I turned to look, and LOE AND BEHOLD! Like a scene out of a movie (I shit you not), just as the sun was setting behind the hill, who do I see crest it? The female Marine. Huffing and puffing, stumbling along, barely moving, but GOD DAMMIT SHE WAS MOVING! I let out a cheer for her, which was followed by the rest of the people in the lot. She crossed the finish line, and could have stopped there, but NO! She kept going, walking past ALL of us to get back to her platoon! Out of all the females, she could have been said to be the worst of them (none of the other females fell out), yet she still managed to put dozens of grown men twice her size to shame by shear willpower and determination. And, considering her diminutive size, I would go so far as to say that she was the best of all of us, because the challenge was far greater for her. I tell you this story because, for one, its fucking inspiring, and I love telling it. I also remember it vividly, because of the impact it had on me. But also because it relates PERFECTLY to your situation. In the Marines, male or female, regardless of size, race, color, or creed, you are expected to be able to do the same work as anyone else. You pull your weight, and you don't make excuses. -Being a girl does not entitle you to any special treatment. Not in the Marines, and not in any game. If you were not a girl, he would have called you a faggot. Or a Nigger. Or something else stupid, derogatory, and insulting. Girl or not, you will be killed, insulted, treated badly. Sometimes not.....depends on your luck. And the second reason this story applies to you is this: Having read my story (I hope you did) you must understand by now that I know full well that a female can and WILL achieve if they truly want it. I have no delusions about ANY person's capabilities in life. So, hear my words, and understand me when I say that what I am about to say to you is meant to INSPIRE, not insult: NUT THE FUCK UP GIRL! You need to realize that 90% of the rest of the world is DUMBER than you. They are all bass ackwards, grabastic, un educated morons that let fly with whatever crosses their empty brain housing groups to fly forth willy nilly from their wide open, mouth breathing SUCK holes. The other 10%? THEY are assholes. Notice that the other 10% includes you? Yep. You aren't any better. SMARTER? yes. BETTER? no. This statement is true. Yet I am going to hit you with a paradox you may not fully understand: YOU ARE BETTER THAN THEM. FUCK WHAT I SAY. fuck what THEY say. The only person that has the fucking right to judge you IS YOU BITCH! So the next time one of those empty skull mother fuckers thinks they have what it takes in their empty, shriveled up sacks to tell you otherwise, you say what? NOTHING! You say NOTHING! They aren't fucking worthy of the glorious fucking wisdom you hold in your head. You owe them nothing. NO excuses. NO reasons. NO apologies, AND NOT A GOD DAMNED WORD from your mouth. You are better, and smarter than they are, and stronger most likely. No amount of bullshit they throw at you can EVER bring you down to their level. They will treat you the same as they treat everyone else. If they treat you worse, then more the fool they, because they are bigots. And the only thing worse than a bigot is a zealot. So you can actually CONGRATULATE them! They have managed to be a slight step up from the absolute lowest of all human beings (and often enough, zealots are also bigots, so there's that...). So, Woman, I leave you with this latin phrase, adopted by the Marine Corps as our motto: SEMPER FIDELIS (always faithful). Be faithful to yourself, and give no fucks about what anyone else says. Good Luck. -Tom, Cpl., USMC, Hon. Discharged. OOHRAH. -
usufructuaries.....that's a new one for me. "One who has the enjoyment of something". I actually had to look that up. And I have a pretty sizable vocabulary.... Anyway, here's one that we have all no doubt experienced: Find weapon "A". Get excited and grab it. Find every item, ammo, mags, and accessories for EVERY other weapon, but nothing for weapon "A". Drop weapon "A" because you have found weapon "B", for which you have seen a TON of related items EVERYWHERE. Suddenly stop seeing items for weapon "B", but are now finding everything you needed for weapon "A", but not the weapon itself. DayZ....oh you....

Why don't the devs post content on the official forums?
crazykage replied to scriptfactory's topic in General Discussion
I think you are blatantly overstating or reading too much into my post. Perhaps its the lack of any kind of inflection in text communication? I don't know. But I assure you, this game, its development, and the lack of dev input, are the LEAST of my concerns in life. When I say it "bothers" me, I don't mean to imply I am tearing my hair out or crying myself to sleep at night. I mean it very slightly concerns me. So don't put words in my mouth, or in this case, add emotions to my words. But honestly, I think you KNOW that, and are just being a troll, playing the old "u mad bro?" card. -
Are people still only at NE and Berizino?

Why don't the devs post content on the official forums?
crazykage replied to scriptfactory's topic in General Discussion
No, THIS is, maybe, why. Because when people speak their minds, in an intelligent and non-toxic manner, a troll always comes along to shit on it with horrendous grammar, using no discernible intelligent thought, having no concept of how to debate in a manner that isn't insulting, and failing to explain in any way just what the HELL they mean or imply. Thank you shrub. you have enlightened me. Glorious epiphanies have been revealed to me, and I have seen the light. I almost cant blame the devs now, because you just reminded me, quickly, efficiently, and not moments after my post, just how asinine some people can be around here. If I didn't know better, I would say you very cleverly disguised ALL THAT in your simple, nonsense grammar, sentence. But I have a distinct feeling that would be giving you too much credit. -

Why don't the devs post content on the official forums?
crazykage replied to scriptfactory's topic in General Discussion
This bothers me as well. I HATE social media like facebook and twitter, and cant stand reddit due to it being a downright madhouse most of the time. I get wanting to reach out to a larger audience, but I find the lack of a presence in their own OFFICIAL forums almost insulting. We are the dedicated players (for the most part) that put up with all the issues of the game in its alpha state. We are the ones who realize we are TESTING the game for the devs (in exchange for a reduced price and the chance to play it early on, which is STILL fun even in its unfinished state). I honestly feel ignored. There is another game I play that is in alpha. Its called space engineers. Essentially it is minecraft in space. Awesome game, and whats more, is the devs are active in their own forums. ESPECIALLY in the bug reports section. One of the devs, Phand, is actually a celebrated hero for all her hardwork and dedication, constantly providing feedback between the devs on the bug team, and the players who go to the trouble to post their issues and upload world files and bug reports. On that forum, there is a real sense amongst the community that the devs care what the players think, and a real connection is formed. There is the honest feeling that the players can help shape the development of the game, and the knowledge that new, REASONABLE ideas, which are popular amongst the wider community, will at least be considered, and likely even be added at some point. When was the last time a dev posted anything in the ideas/suggestions thread? Said anything like "that's an interesting idea", or "we are actually already considering something similar", or hell even "WOW! what an awesome idea! This lit a fire here in the office and everyone really likes it! We are all amazed we didn't think of it ourselves" (admittedly a bit much). Of course, another thing that is awesome about SE is the development pace, with new content and fixes released weakly (Thursday is patchmass). But Im not concerned about the development pace with DayZ. Its a completely different game and what not. I just dont like the lack of ANY input here on the forums. I mean, WE are the ones testing this game for you. We DO enjoy it (most of us, anyway, me included). But throw us a bone here! Let us know that you give a damn what your most dedicated players think! But whatever. Not stopping me from playing. Not stopping me from engaging in discussion. Just get the feeling none of that discussion is relevant to the devs. But I could be wrong. Maybe they have their reasons. After all, rocket works in mysterious ways...(a joke. Sarcasm. I dont literally mean to imply deity ness) -
sucks. I spent HOURS finding everything I needed to craft the bow, then, with the thing taking up a massive amount of space in my inventory I searched for another several hours before FINALLY finding a single arrow. with the bow and arrow, I killed a boar in one shot. The arrow is gone, unrecoverable. The bow now useless. So, if you didn't already know, its pointless to use the ashwood bow, unless you get super lucky and find a shit ton of arrows AND ashwood stick AND rope. Then? yeah, you can be a super silent death machine that can kill ONE target very quietly before needing to open your inventory and manually reload (which, by the way, makes a "click-clack" sound, as if you are reloading a gun.). So, until this feature gets a little more fleshed out, its inferior to the crossbow. that being said, I would LOVE the damn thing, if arrows were more common or if they were craftable.... AND of course, this is just in case you didn't already know. If you did, then why the HELL didn't you tell me????? coulda saved me a few hours... *DISCLAIMER: This isn't a rage/rant. Just passing along information. So don't flame me with "ERRREAPLHA". I know its alpha. WELL aware of the alphaness, and all that implies.

Ive seen adds for an inventory editor when searching for information about a hack that enables players to steal items directly from your inventory by being invisible (which I heard about here). Could be this? Because I am certain that there is no golden paint or magazines. Did you get any screen shots?

I have an M4. Pristine iron sights and buttstock, worn handguard (all standard parts, no magpull), in addition to one 40 rnd mag and one 30 rnd mag (both full), both pristine. Lastly, I also have a stack of spare 5.56 rounds (20 rnds). I WANT a crossbow and lots of bolts. As many as you can get me. would also appreciate a compatible pristine scope. Crossbows being relatively easy to find, I would be willing to forego the weapon itself in exchange for more bolts. This is a HARDCORE character. PM me to make an offer. Don't bother contacting me unless you have one of the following combinations: scope/10 bolts weapon/10 bolts OR 20 or more bolts If you manage to find the bow, a scope, AND a few bolts, that is an instant "SOLD" in this little auction. If you can find Binoculars, I would also be willing to knock down some of my requirements. PM me to discuss details.

I don't understand the point of making any items rare at this point. Its alpha, we are supposed to test things and find obscure problems (say, for example, attempting to place an engraved 1911 inside an expanded carrier rig causes the server to explode). Why make ANYTHING rare? I spent HOURS tracking down a single arrow for a bow, JUST so I could try it out. I want to find out what kind of range and accuracy the thing has, so I can come back and tell the devs what I think, what is bugged, broken etc. As it is, I cant do that because I haven't seen more than a single arrow since the new stable patch was released. My point: How are we supposed to test new shit, if we cant find it? oddly enough, heli crashes are supposed to be pretty rare right? I have found 7 of them. SEVEN. And not ONE had an M4....chew on that for a moment....

........ I cant find them either......

Is it just me? Or did they tighten up ballistics spread?
crazykage posted a topic in General Discussion
I think they did! If so, I am officially stoked. I notice that my pistol shots don't go wide and miss nearly as often, unless I have been sprinting rather heavily, and even then POINT BLANK shots are still quite accurate (in the past, I have observed shots missing entirely from less 10 feet away, even in a rested, kneeling position. Not anymore. I also tried a few test shots with my mosin (pristine PU scope, compensator, bipod, and bayonet), and had no problems hitting what I was aiming for. But I also have to admit that I only took a few shots. Conclusively I can NOT be conclusive. I may have just been lucky. But further testing will reveal, I hope, that randomized ballistics is either gone (still tended to miss pistol shots at ranges of about 20 meters, but was probably due to having been recently sprinting), or can be compensated for by resting after a long sprint and having good quality attachments (which is fine by me. The way I see it, it "simulates" having to maintain your weapon). I will test further and report back with my results, but I would also like to hear the communities' experiences and observations. -
howdy fellow survivors of all playstyles! I don't know about y'all, but I am LOVING the new update. Some of my notes, observations, and general commentary thus far: Love that battle rifles like the M4 and the AKM are rare. As in SUPER rare. As in, I went so far as to server hop (Disclaimer: I've said before that I have done this in the past, and only in the beginning to learn the map and the loot spawns, and never allowed any character that had hopped to engage in any player-player activity, even going so far as to refuse to return fire if fired upon. I feel that justifies it somewhat) rather extensively and still was unable to find one. Managed to find all the attachements, including the drum mag tho. The new expanded carrier rig is a GODSEND, I happily traded my pristine basic rig for a badly damaged expanded version. Found 3 more as well, but none that were in better condition. Theres also some new camouflage utility clothing that has been added. Mil spec, not just another hunting variety either. A refreshing change for those who may be sick of the SSkO pattern. managed to find a crossbow, but only after a LOT of searching. Ultimately, I didn't keep it though. The rarity of the ammo, and the fact that it cant be stored in a pack, at ALL, (meaning it must take up the slot of your main weapon) makes it a not very viable choice atm. I would love to see this become a more common weapon, and to see the bolts be less scarce. But that's just me. I attempted to start a fire, but failed despite having 80 matches (the box was badly damaged). However I did notice some things: #1: Using the axe to chop down trees to gather wood damages the axe. And rather quickly. #2: Using the pick axe to harvest stones also degrades the tool. Also rather quickly. #3: placing stones in the fireplace seems to serve no purpose. Does it make the fire easier to start? prevent the fire from spreading? I don't know. Does anybody know what the purpose of using stones in your fire pit serves? Because it seems to not be necessary. I also ended up getting caught in a nasty rain storm, and got wet to the point that I was getting red warning messages about how soaked I was. As far as I can tell, however, it still had no effect on my character's status. Although this may have been because I was Healthy, hydrated, and energized to start with (maybe a higher resistance to damage/disease)? Can anybody confirm this? I was really looking forward to giving the binoc's a try, but thus far I STILL cant find a pair. How rare are those things? I observed one other thing, but ill save that for a separate topic, as it will require some discussion and further testing. What about y'all? any answers to some of my questions? Your own observations?

Ammo Calibration : Poll & Discussion
crazykage replied to stielhandgranate's topic in General Discussion
Further proof, IMO, that you know NOTHING about shooting IRL (will explain in a moment), and still fails to argue FOR the continuation of randomized ballistics in any logical way. Your argument thus far is simply that our characters are not military personnel and should therefore not shoot like one. Fine. But that does not take the following into consideration: -Our characters are (as stated by another poster previously) NOTHING. BLANK SLATES upon which WE THE PLAYER establish a background, history, lore, personality at OUR discretion. NOWHERE in this games forums, literature, or developer comments of any kind, does it implicitly state that our characters are anything otherwise (other than by players such as you). If nothing else, they have stated the opposite, wanting to not impose playstyles on the players, simply giving them the tools. What all this means is that my character is who "I" want him to be. Not who you THINK he should be. -Let us say, for the sake of argument, that my character ISNT, nor ever WILL BE, military. This does not take into account the following: Law enforcement, Hunters, Olympic ski shooters, gun enthusiasts, civilian militia, natural born "Carlos Vasilli Hathcock Zietzev" shooters, etc. To say that NONE of the player's characters have military experience would be unlikely (realistically). To say that none of them whatsoever have ANY experience or even background knowledge of firearms defies ALL logic (much like many of your posts I have seen thus far, which are chock full of logical fallacy). I am beginning to think you DO fall into the camp of players I mentioned earlier: your argument only makes sense (to me) if seen from a selfish perspective that wants to limit other players' ability to kill you in game. You want a simplified, LEVELED playing field. If I am wrong, prove it to me, and I will gladly rescind that statement. My argument is NOT selfish. I want a system that is challenging, balanced, realistic, and is FAIR to all parties. Randomized ballistics IS NOT FAIR to everyone. Its only fair to the victim that was outsmarted and/or outmaneuvered. And of course, all this is to say NOTHING about shooting zombies. I might want to play as a carebear type character one day, that wouldn't hurt a fly. But Im STILL going to need to shoot zombies, aren't I? Lastly, to return to the second half of the above comment and why I believe you know nothing about shooting IRL. The only argument I have AGAINST the statement is this: Most would NOT miss. ALL OF THEM WOULD!!!!! 20 civies (assuming all have no experience or knowledge) handed even a very GOOD rifle, and told to fire it in a standing position, would miss. ABSOLUTELY!!!!! That guy I mentioned, whom I taught to shoot? I didn't hand him the rifle, and simply tell him to shoot it from a standing position. THATS THE HEIGHT OF STUPIDITY! I explained correct sight alignment, sight picture, bone support, hasty and loop slings, proper handling, safety (was actually the first thing), breathing and trigger control, showed him good shooting positions (prone, sitting, kneeling [NOT STANDING]) and explained proper bone support, among a myriad of other tips and tricks learned from personal experience. OF COURSE A CIVIE would fail in the scenario you just depicted. NOBODY takes well aimed shots at ranges exceeding 50 meters from a standing position! We don't even do that IN GAME! Half the post supports my comment (none of it does. I argue emphatically against it, by explaining that shooting is not that hard, in support of my argument that even IF all of the characters are not military, that this STILL should not imply that NONE of them know how to shoot. A little practice, common sense, intelligence, and a source of knowledge is all it takes), a third is remarkable bravado (Marine. Comes naturally to me. But I didn't come here to brag, rather to prove a point. And there is NOTHING remarkable about my shooting skills. Compared to many in the corps, I could be considered merely mediocre), the rest absurd (Really? More logical fallacy. Stating a fact does not make it true. Fish can also be cats. See? Doesn't work. I honestly think that you KNOW you have no basis for a valid and logical argument, and are simply trying to push a selfish agenda in the hopes of leveling the playing field). -
Nothing broke me. I play the way I want to play, when I want to play it. If I want to play as a joe friendly medic, I will. That character will gear up, get the supplies he needs, and go help people. And if another player kills him, well, that was just the end of HIS story. Ill start a new character and try again. But this time he might not be a medic. He might be a bandit. Or he might BE a medic after all. And when that new character dies, his story is ended and a new one begins again. That's just how I do it. NOBODY, either in forums, or in game, is allowed to dictate MY playstyle. If something didn't work before, that's just how it played out that time. Next time around, I might try to go about it in a smarter way, but it doesn't mean that I will just NOT DO IT anymore...

Ammo Calibration : Poll & Discussion
crazykage replied to stielhandgranate's topic in General Discussion
WRONG. Wrong wrong WRONG! Firstly, ARMA isn't based on SOLDIERS, but the military, and simulation of military equipment and tactics. To say that the mechanics should be the same does NOT imply that the players are soldiers (and as stated by another poster, its all in the players head anyway. Maybe I WANT to RP as a soldier. Who are YOU to dictate that to me?), but implies that the GUNS are the same, function the same, DO the same things. Im honestly beginning to think that many of the people that support randomized ballistics are just mad that they get killed in game (comment not necessarily directed at you)or just cant deal with the fact that some people kill other players, whatever the reason. They want to have their carebear playstyle camping in the woods and scrounging for gear they will never use and not be bothered, and to hell with anyone who doesn't like to play that way. Further, who are YOU to say what the games intent is? Only the devs get to say that. Not you, not me. All we can do is debate. Establishing your opinion as fact like that is poor logic. Secondly, 100 meter shots SHOULD be easy. They are easy IRL. That's a single football field. If you cant hit a target from that far (irl), its pathetic. A man sized target at that range is quite easy to hit. Problem is, that in game, even at THAT range, randomized ballistics will take a well aimed shot and THROW it 5 feet left of my aim point. Don't even get me started about pistols. WIth those things, anything short of point blank range is a gambol. Lastly, do you know anything about shooting? Because this statement: "Clinch, prediction of recoil, and trigger pull all come into play, making the sight picture you see at pull little more than an estimate when the bullet leaves the barrel. It take years and thousands of rounds to overcome those issues.", is all wrong. I'll explain: CLINCH: NEVER clinch. Doing so "muscles" the rifle. It should rest naturally in position, with proper bone support, maintained while obtaining correct sight alignment and sight picture. Clenching the rifle results in forcing it into position and alignment with you, rather than the other way around. It also results in canting, which distorts the perceived impact point when viewed through the sights. One should wrap themselves around the rifle, rather than force it into what they think is the right position (I realize that might not make a lot of sense). Prediction of recoil: NEVER NEVER NEVER anticipate recoil. Pretend it doesn't exist. recoil has NOTHING to do with the trajectory of the bullet. By the time the recoil hits, the bullet is already out of the barrel and on its way. The reason why recoil DOES affect accuracy is because shooters anticipate it, and therefore try to compensate for it. Just shoot the damn thing. If you take a well aimed shot, the bullet will hit your target regardless of weather the recoil is an insignificant twitch or if its enough to through a fully grown man off his feet. sight picture you see at pull little more than an estimate when the bullet leaves the barrel: Wrong. Any good shooter can do a HELL of a lot more than an "estimate". I make keyhole shots on the REGULAR at 100 meters and more. At ranges, I frequently have shoot groups that are simply silver dollar sized holes in my target after firing 50 or more shots. That means I am consistently and intentionally putting rounds within an inch to half of an inch of the spot I aim for. And Im no Marine Corps scout sniper. Im just a lowly POG-tastic air winger that worked his ass off every day, and happened to be pretty damned good on the range. A REAL sniper could pull of the same at much greater distances. It take years and thousands of rounds to overcome those issues: WRONG! In the Corps, I only shot at the range 6 times, once a year (which means about one weak of daily shooting, once a year. so 6 weeks). I qualified expert 5 times. Once as sharpshooter (one step down from expert). And, more recently, I took my friend Nate to a 100 meter range with an AR owned by my father. Nate, at the time, had never fired a real firearm in his whole LIFE (with the exception of a 22., ONE time, when he was 12. Now he is in his mid twenties). I explained to him all of the fundamentals, a few tips, and a little bit of demonstration, along with a few minor corrections when he was holding the weapon, and it was enough to get him to establish an accurate, if somewhat spread out, grouping on a target no bigger than a human head. With just a LITTLE practice, that spread out grouping could EASILY turn into a nice, TIGHT grouping less than an inch wide. It took only two mags of 20 rounds each, one to establish a grouping and adjust the sights to his eyes, and a second to place that grouping on his target. SIMPLE. Shooting a rifle is NOT difficult. If you just understand or learn the fundamentals, and make a conscious effort to apply them as you shoot, you WILL hit what you are aiming at. Compensation for wind, gravity, and moving targets, and extreme range gets more difficult, yes. But its not as hard as you seem to be making it out to be. The fact of the matter is, that if I skillfully outmaneuvered my opponent, took a well aimed shot, and in every way resoundingly DEFEATED him, I do NOT want random CHANCE to dictate weather or not I succeed. And the same goes for my opponent. I respect my opponents enough that I want them to be given the SAME reward when they outsmart ME. BUT!!!! at the same time, NEITHER do I want it to be as simple as just pointing my crosshairs and pressing LMB. I WANT to be challenged in SOME way, with weapon sway, windage adjustments (to supplement the already present elevation adjustments), or some other well balanced, FAIR mechanic. Hell, if I had MY way, EVERY rifle you find would start with the sights misaligned randomly in some way, requiring you to BZO the weapon at some point in order to become accurate with it. After all, EVERY weapon, even those of the same make, model, and manufacturer are unique in subtle ways.
