What we need is the ability to use our compass WITH the map. This is already possible in arma 2, so I don't know why it isn't possible here. I would also like to be able to make marks on my map with a pen. What we DONT need is some kind of easy mode cheat system that leaves waypoint markers on our hud, or something on the map that shows your exact position. This would make things WAY too casual. Don't like it? learn to land nav.... That being said, PROPER land navigation and azimuth shooting isn't really possible with the current system.

CCSD (Chernarus Creapy Stuff Division) Black Forest Infestation Investigation:
crazykage posted a topic in General Discussion
As many are not aware of the existence of the CCSD (arousing some confusion in the thread that birthed this investigation), and also to centralize information found on the issue, as well as to provide a location to provide more information as it is found in an organized fashion where it can be easily found without sifting through dozens of posts, and lastly, to give the issue greater exposure to the survivor community, I, CO leader of the CCSD (alongside Rydekk), have created this topic to serve all these ends. For more information about the origin of the CCSD, read this thread: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/168707-the-ccsd-chernarian-creepy-stuff-department-needs-investigators-for-the-radio-transmission-mystery/?hl=ccsd CCSD Investigation of Black Forest Infestation: Mission: To investigate claims by many survivors of being attacked by hitherto unheard of groups of zombies localized to a forested area, namely Black Forest, rather than towns or cities, and if true, to ascertain weather or not this phenomenon is unique to Black Forest, or if it is in fact a widespread occurrence (other infested forests or areas not typically associated with the threat of zombie infestation). Background/History: The phenomenon was first brought to the attention of the CCSD by codename "Windowlicker", in this communique: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/173247-ccsd-investigation-request/ Further communications from the survivor community revealed that not only was W.L. NOT the first to discover this, but that it has also been true for some time, yet somehow escaped broad community awareness, despite others having brought the issue to light in the recent past, but for some reason not seeing the issue gain much exposure. Current: Investigations carried out by myself, Jonah_Hobbes, and testimonials from members of the survivor community have confirmed beyond doubt: BLACK FOREST IS INFECTED. What is more, is that the infection area is not simply localized to the area of the roads and the few buildings in B.F., but is in fact wide-spread throughout the B.F. area. Exercise extreme caution when in this area. Relevant data: After exploring the area in and around black forest on several servers, I have reached the following conclusions: 1: Black Forest IS IN FACT infested with the dead. 2: I encountered and killed roughly 15 of the dead on the first trip, 20 on the second, and 17 on the third. On subsequent trips, I focused more on trying to pin down a general area of spawn, rather than hard numbers (failed to do so). 3: Approximately 1/3 to 1/2 of the zombies I encountered where either on, or nearby (within 100 meters) the road that passes through black forest, and in particular, the area around the "T" junction. The rest were found scattered around hill tops, and occasionally wandering in small open clearings. I can CONFIRM that they are not simply spawning on or near the road or the few buildings in the wood. They can and DO appear throughout the rest of the area, more than 150-250 meters away from the roads. What is disturbing about this is that it is impossible to know just how many may be there. My earlier attempts to count the numbers only account for those that I encountered. Further, about 3/4 of the deep woods encounters were a result of me being spotted first. They seem to have heightened senses of smell or hearing, as many chased after me without any direct line of sight, while I was not aware of them until they growled or were so close that I could hear their shambling footsteps. MANY times I would slay one, only to turn back to go on my way and find a second only feet away. Often they seemed to come after me one after another, attacking me from behind as I dealt with the threat to the fore. Traveler beware: It is very easy to find yourself ambushed. 4. I CANNOT confirm the existence of any "horde", as I failed at any time to find more than 4 or 5 in one area, and even then they were somewhat spread out. It seems likely however, that one group might wander into another, or two groups might spawn nearby each other, creating the illusion of a horde. Also, if running near the T junction, it is possible a survivor may attract several zombies form the nearby tree line, and be unaware of them giving chase until they stop farther ahead when encountering another group. Then the first group catches up, and the survivor finds himself surrounded (I was able to force this to happen with a little deliberate effort). Regardless, the possibility of a genuine horde cannot be totally dismissed just yet, and horde or no, it can be safely said that no part of black forest is safe (do not log out there!), as BOTH the road/buildings, and general forest are infested. 5. I also took the opportunity to explore Lesnoy Khrebet, the small wood just west of black forest. While there I DIDNOT encounter a single zombie, although I DID find a rather mysteriously placed radio tower, which was just uphill from the ruins of a small camp (ruined fence/wall, small outhouse shack, and an empty fireplace). Note to the CCSD to further investigate this site with radio equipment (which I lacked at the time) in the future. I hereby dub the site "Camp Lesnoy", at coordinates 083-078. Summary: TRAVEL ADVISORY! It is highly recommended that any survivors avoid this area at all costs. There is little to nothing of value to be found in the area, and it is occupied by scattered groups of the dead. Due to the dense foliage and low visibility, and the dead's heightened senses of hearing and/or smell, they can easily detect you before you can detect them, resulting in survivors accidently drawing unto themselves more and more dead as they pass through the area. If you MUST pass through, it is recommended that you do so quickly, do so armed, and do NOT stop to rest (log out). You may find yourself being attacked in your sleep (while stuck after logout, or while stuck during login). Further data will be added as it is acquired. That is all. ___________________________________________ PHOTOGRAPHIC EVIDENCE: Here we see two zeds, one to my front, one to my left. After taking picture and dispatching them, I was attacked by a third from the rear. An example of one of the dead found in an open clearing, right smack in the middle of the forest. After dispatching this one near the top of a hill, far from the roads and buildings, I was attacked in sequence by 3 more. Spotted a 4th as I was moving down off the hill. The campsite and radio tower in Lesnoy Khrebet, coordinates 083-078 EDIT: all of these images were taken from my first trip. Subsequent trips were much the same. ______________________________________________________________________________ LAST REPORT FROM INVESTIGATIVE RANGER JONAH HOBBES CCSD Agent Jonah_Hobbes reporting in Due to an increase in eye witness accounts of this phenomenon. I restocked, checked my map and proceeded south to (091 075). At approx (092 074) I made first contact with 2 Infected near the fork at the path. As I continued towards (091 075) I encountered a further 2 Infected and shortly afterwards another for a total of 5. Once I had established that there were no further Infected in the immediate area I then involved myself in a short and quite stressful engagement with my pursuers. Thankfully I managed to dispatch them all and presently the Infected pose no danger to travelers in the Black Forest on this server. This encounter poses a worrying issue. Are the Infected now establishing themselves into groups? This concept leaves me aghast. Fellow agents of CCSD, as CrazyKage suggests we must investigate further afield. Although I dare not think it, I believe this is not an isolated incident. Over and Out. Its futile. I started a thread about "why I kos (outside of defense or necessity)", stating that for me, it wasn't about the killing but about the hunt, and asking other players to talk about their reasons. I stressed that the thread was a non judgment zone, and asked those who had a problem with kos to agree to disagree and not flame.... So guess what the topic degraded into (even after I asked a SECOND time to get back on track)? No, it wasn't a flame war of kos vs non kos....not even that. It turned into a hateful debate about what is most important in life....something about having kids, seeing your enemies driven before you and hearing the lamentation of their women, and NOT having kids in favor of partying all the time...god the internet is dumb... As much as I dislike the fact that the devs are 99% non-existent in the OFFICIAL forum, that thread made me ALMOST understand.

This is great news! It means a solid leap of progress in the right direction. This is a problem as ancient as the original dayz mod itself. If a few new issues arise as a result of this (framerate drops, etc.), I wont mind. Now....if they could JUST get around to eliminating randomized ballistics in favor of a more skill based shooting system... -
Same. Ive lost a medkit, and 2 protector cases on 2 separate occasions (2 protectors gone after a log in follow a game crash, and then los a medkit some time later)

Why I kill other players (outsided of defense/necesity):
crazykage posted a topic in General Discussion
I feel the best way to explain this is with two quotes. One, from Ernest Hemingway: "Certainly there is no hunting like the hunting of man, and those who have hunted armed men long enough and like it, never really care for anything else thereafter." And secondly, is the quote from Gunnery Sergeant Carlos Hathcock, who is referencing the above quote: "He got it right. Its the hunt, not the killing..." What about you? *I made this not to talk about the right or wrong, but the reasons why. Don't derail my discussion with hateful, derogatory, or off topic responses. If someone DOES post such a response, I will ignore them, and hope that everyone else interested in this discussion does as well. Remember: "Be polite, be professional, and have a plan to kill everyone you meet."- 133 replies

Foregrips - What Should They Do And How Should They Do It?
crazykage replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
wait wait wait wait WAIT! "using...on the rifle for at least four years"...."issued a rifle"...."grips with the pop out bipod...utter wank".... WHAT!?!?! I am dumbfounded.... While I will agree with you on the matter of the pop out bipod grips being garbage....the verbiage and choice of words just now....YOU ARE MILITARY! If not, then at least law enforcement. So what is your deal? Why do you go around insulting everyone that cites military knowledge, insulting them and the organizations they are so proud to be members of? Are you a liar? Or are you a hypocrite? OR are you one of those people who belongs to a particular branch or organization and thinks that just because you are in it, yours is the only one whose shit doesn't stink? Or are you JUST a troll that gets off on inciting people to anger? I am legitimately curious as to how you justify this hypocrisy. -
master chief is a navy rank. I am a Corporal, which would be outranked by that anyway. Don't give me a title I didn't earn. And actually, I'm not angry. I could care less. I stopped caring what you thought when it became abundantly clear that you had no intent to engage in intelligent discussion whatsoever. Your a troll. On the internet. What you think has no relevance to me at all. So by all means, keep it up and get banned. Then you wont be wasting space on this forum anymore, and I can sing Queen's "Another one bites the dust". EDIT: and yes, I AM better than you. And I DO know it. U mad bro?
-
no. hes just a troll that deliberately contradicts people with background knowledge about firearms in order to turn around and insult them when they cite the reasons for their knowledge (such as military service), and occasionally posts sarcastic, anti American comments. Ignore him. Eventually he will try too hard and get banned (he is literally on his last warning).

Why I kill other players (outsided of defense/necesity):
crazykage replied to crazykage's topic in General Discussion
I.....I sense something....a great, dark wave of negative energy.... ....it is coming. Cool down fellow survivors...lets not let this devolve into a brainless slug fest. This is NOT a place for judgment. BACK ON TOPIC PLEASE! What is it about killing other players in game that you get enjoyment from? WHY do you get enjoyment from it? -
Obsession? Why do people on the internet always try to put words in people's mouths or feeling in their words that aren't there. I do not have an OBSESSION. The fact that I want to see some realism (BALANCED realism for the sake of gameplay) in game in order to make it more entertaining (ie, the elimination of random and unrealistic dispersion) does not equate to obsession. It would be more accurate to say that my desire for in game realism stems from having extensive experience and training with actual firearms. Second, EVERY Marine is a rifleman first. EVERY Marine receives combat training, ranging from weapon marksmanship, forced endurance marches, land navigation, and basic infantry tactics. Its just that those who are ACTUAL infantry MOSes receive more in depth training. And in my case, I may not have seen actual combat, but I WAS deployed to a combat zone (Iraq), and no, I didn't just stay "behind the wire". I got to have the distinct pleasure of being assigned to an infantry unit that was guarding Camp Fallujah during the time when that base was being torn down before being given back to the Iraqis. While there, I did plenty of guard duty, and several patrols around the perimeter of the base. Not having seen combat does not mean I have not done any "real soldiering", as you put it. And lastly, don't knock airsoft. During one of my more interesting and fun training exercises, I got to "play" as the OPFOR forces (terrorists) in a MOUT (military operations on urban terrain) town. We used high powered airsoft guns designed to have the same look, weight, and feel of the real thing (these things could leave you with welts worse than paintball). While it may SOUND like fun and games (and it WAS fun), it is a legitimate training exercise. It was during that training that I learned to properly clear houses in a combat environment, how to move from point to point, etc. etc. So, in conclusion, I think you need to USE that brain housing group your mommy and daddy gave you when they exchanged genetic molecules one night (and judging by your level of maturity, that night was what? 6? 7 years ago?), and think REAL hard.....SQUEEEEEZE the blood out of that rock....and let the next statement that flies out of your wide open, mouth breathing suck hole carry a small amount of wisdom and intelligence. To think, I even tried to be very clear that I meant NO offense when trying to inform him.....

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED! US Marine Corps Corporal, Rifle Expert 3rd award (consecutive. 5 times in total). Shot with M16, M16-A4, A2, and the M4. (no combat experience, I was a lowly, hard working air winger). I also fired, during special training events on multiple occasions, the 240 G, SAW, .50 MG, and a MK-19 on one occasion. I own a Sig Sauer 2022 SP pro series 9mm, and a Savage 111 30-06, in addition to having fired my father's Savage Tactical .308, Bushmaster 5.56 AR, Mossberg 12 gauge, Marlin 30-30, Smith & Wesson M&P .45, Barreta 9mm, and a "Masters Arms" knock off version of the Mac 10. Your logic doesn't follow. The people who complain the most, in all likelihood, do so BECAUSE they DO know whats what. No offense meant. Just sayin....

"I KILLED THEM ALL!" Oohrah! ...and beans. EDIT: also, I thought it was hilarious when you heard the ghost zombie growl and turned to look back....lolz

2000 meters? Are you NUTS??? What, you think ur Carlos freakin HATHCOCK? in all of recorded warfare, only 7 people have achieved a confirmed kill at 2000 meters or greater. Now, I will grant you that dispersion is bullshit. I constantly complain about it. Call it one of my "pet peeves". But even the typical military SNIPER (not your average grunt) cant pull off a shot that far. Only the most elite, god-like shooters in the world can claim that kind of ability. So, while I WOULD like to be able to hit a target with a well aimed, SKILLFUL shot at ranges of 4-500 meters without random dispersion sending my bullet willy nilly, 2000 meters is a BIT much of an expectation.... Unless it was a typo and you meant to say two HUNDRED, and not two thousand...in which case I completely agree with you....

Hit detection is still absolutely abysmal.
crazykage replied to FrostDMG's topic in General Discussion
It wasn't a joke. Aside from other minor issues that will be fixed eventually, and the dispersion, I LIKE the current build. Don't put words in my mouth. And if you see blood come out and he still walks away, then there ISNT an issue with hit detection, but rather with damage infliction. Obviously you HIT him, or blood wouldn't be spurting. So, yeah. -
I have no fear of green mountain. I have nothing but success when I go there. I have not once had a single issue. However, I have caused many people visiting green mountain to fear it. Every time I have found a person or persons there, I have killed them without them EVER seeing me. I once annihilated an entire group of 5 people. Two were in the barracks, two on top of the tower, and one at the base of the tower. Thus far, my luck has not worn out when visiting GM. So you see, its not green mountain you should fear, but rather you should fear weather or not I am there....

I have, on occasion experienced the herky jerky sway bug with an M4, a Mosin, a Crossbow, a blaze, but never with pistols. I cant consistently reproduce it. Sometimes it goes away mid session. Sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes a relog fixes it, sometimes it starts up imeadietly on login. Don't know what causes it. Not certain of any particular way to fix it. But its there, and its ridiculous. Impossible to predict. And eventually to be fixed. Not a problem for me. Its alpha, I expect issues like this to crop up now and then. Shit happens. But one thing. ONE thing currently in game that irritates me to no end: RANDOM DISPERSION. Im not MAD at the devs for creating it or not fixing it yet, but I am glaring at them, in a figurative sense, hoping they will fix it soon.
-
Hit detection is still absolutely abysmal.
crazykage replied to FrostDMG's topic in General Discussion
randomized dispersion is incredibly infuriating...I really wish a dev would give us a sign, or update, or SOMETHING to indicate if and when this will be fixed or worked on. But the devs don't like to talk to us here. Just twitter and reddit. which I hate with a passion (twitter and reddit). Oh well. Rest of the game is spot on for the most part IMO. -
all of which require, btw, that you either find a stone randomly (difficult), or ALSO have a pick axe to mine one, which is then used to sharpen back to damaged status. Once that's done, you can chop down two more trees, until you need to sharpen again, which again requires the stone. Unless you are willing to carry one with you, which takes up a ridiculous amount of inventory space. Frankly, I think they should just increase the durability of the axe significantly, and just do away with the sharpening nonsense. Fire axes and splitting axes just don't wear out that fast.
