VictorM need not have been involved for it to have been a hoax Attempting to focus on WHO is broadcasting the signal (if not the game itself) is pointless, because the perpetrator could be simply changing their name/s every time they do it. Making it impossible to track who is in what server at the time a broadcast is detected. Hoax or not, Im having fun. Its something to DO. Instead of just running around in the woods aimlessly from one loot zone to another.... -
Hatchet as an alternative to axes (idea proposal: discuss)
crazykage posted a topic in General Discussion
Heres my idea as I see it: Player could find in game a rare (quite rare, in fact, for reasons I will explain below) melee item: a hatchet, which could be used as an alternative to the fire axe or wood splitter. The advantage: Item takes up only 2 (vertical) inventory slots, and thus can be stored easily in your backpack or other inventory, instead of on your back, which would free up the space on your back to carry an additional firearm (some combo of mosin, m4, shotty, or other long barreled gun added in later), without having to drop the extra gun on the ground any time you put something else in your hands (this advantage is why the hatchet should be a rare find). The draw back: Unless the hatchet is stored in pants or shirt/vest pockets, it cannot be equipped to your tool belt (it can be stored in your backpack, but to put it in your hands, you will need to move it to an inventory slot that is NOT your backpack). Once it is equipped, it can be used against players or zombies. As a further tradeoff, the smaller, lighter weapon with a shorter reach would require two hits on a zombie to drop it, like the wood splitter. As it is smaller, it would also be less efficient at harvesting wood than the fire axe, and would require significantly more time to do so (this feature is entirely dependent on how wood harvesting is eventually implemented). That's what I have so far. What do you folks think? NOTE: I do realize that other aspects of development are far more important at this time. I propose this as an idea for EVENTUAL implementation. Not right now. -
The most profoundly important question ever asked to rocket
crazykage replied to alleycat's topic in General Discussion
You answered your own question, OP, without realizing it. Just like us in game, he spends all day running. The only difference is that he does it in an office building yelling at developers, while we run from town to town yelling "friendly! friendly!" or "F2! F2!". -

This pretty much sums up the current situation^. Until it is PROVEN, my operating assumption is that this is a hoax. A good one. Consider also the fact that it only seems to appear in mid to hi pop servers. If even ONE other person is in the server, they could be responsible. And its not even possible to correlate names of those present (in server) during a "broadcast" due to the newly implemented name changing system (otherwise it might be possible to track who is responsible). I will believe it when I see proof: I hear it for myself, in an otherwise empty server. However, although I cannot confirm the authenticity of the broadcast, NEITHER can I say it is not legitimate. -

still there, in server. nothing. only me an one other person in server atm. The fact that the broadcast faded out as they moved away (got out of range) and that this has, thus far, only been detected on 2 servers, leads me to think that this is in all likelihood a hoax. but im still sittin here, listening to my transmitter....lol. UPDATE: OK. Just sat in the Civil Warriors server from just after 20:00 until restart. Nothing on the transmitter. And I was pretty much sitting exactly where thrasher was in the video. As in thrasher's description of events, after the restart, the server was in daytime. At no time did I receive ANY signals, on ANY servers, during this entire play session. At this juncture, I am not willing to rule out the possibility of a hoax. -

we haven't yet ruled out the possibility that it is a hoax. It COULD be a broadcast from another player. in which case, its still REAL, just not an in game easter egg. -

scanned in several servers now, all times of the night. Nothing Now in the civil warriors server. its nighttime, about 20:00. nearby the same location as the one in the above stream. nothing as yet. Edit: I ended up finding a pristine radio. So if there is a transmission, I SHOULD hear it. just a matter of when? -

Look guys (no cheaters, not you. I'll get to you in a moment...). You are NOT going to convince these cheaters that what they are doing is wrong. They are NOT going to change their world view because you explain it to them, no matter how eloquently and intelligently you tell them. You would have better luck explaining the moral consequences of bullying to a bully, in the hopes the bully would change their ways. Like trying to tell them that the reason they pick on others is because, deep down, they feel weak, and need to feel stronger. The bully would just spit in your face, right? I only responded to this thread to point out to the OP that "NO, not everyone who plays this game has a total lack of integrity when they do so, just because YOU don't." AND to tell him not to try and bring me down to that level. For you, the cheaters, yes, I understand there are "grey areas". Doing it ONE time, or to learn about the game, or because you trekked 500 miles to get to "X" spot and found it had been looted, so you hoped, etc... these are minor sins. But combat logging, ghosting, hoping (to "gear up fast easy mode" as the OP put it), hot spawning (whatever the fuck that is. Never heard of it until today), is an exploit. The only difference, in my eyes, between this and using an ACTUAL hack, is the fact that its free and there is no third party program or script. You are still CHEATING to gain an unfair advantage over others, that is NOT a part of the intended game design. You can say whatever you want. HOWEVER you want. NOTHING will change that fact. And anything you say to yourself to convince yourself otherwise is a lie you tell yourself to justify your actions. So go ahead and give me shit about my "soapbox" or whatever. I have fucks to give, but you cant have them.... -

does anyone know if a Badly Damaged Transmitter works? I found one, but that's its condition. concerned I wont be able to find another, better one in good time without server hoping. I don't mind hoping to scan for a signal, but loot is another thing. -

Im about to break a few rules, all in the name of science. Gonna log in (ill be a fresh spawn, haven't played since I was last killed while investigating the elektro signal) and do some looting till I find a few basics (pack, fire axe, food, etc.). once I have that Im gonna find me a transmitter, and go to elektro... Its here that ill be breaking the rules a little. While in elektro, im going turn on my transmitter. If I don't hear anything, im going to hop servers. Turn it on again. Repeat. This way, I can test if the broadcast occurs at night, at day, hi pop, low pop, ect. Ill be keeping track of what servers I join, and what the time is (server time) and the population at time of test. I will report back on my findings... -
You know what, I just want to sit down and say a few things.... Rocket, Thank you. Not just for SA, but rather for starting this whole thing back in the beginning with the Mod. SA is awesome, but not as good as what the mod evolved into. But it will get better eventually. No, I want to thank you for being the one to start it all... I have only ever played two games in my entire life that gave me an ACTUAL adrenaline rush. One of them was EVE Online. The knowledge that the last month of effort to get the isk together to buy and properly equip that Navy Issue Megathron might go to waste if it gets destroyed in this fight.... Or that your Capitol class freighter, loaded with BILLIONS of isk worth of assets is under attack, and your backup is 10 minutes away and might not make it in time to save you...things like that produced in me a real rush of adrenaline. But NO game I have ever played, other than DayZ, has been able to ALSO inspire a sense of true, genuine fear. Weather that fear and/or adrenaline rush comes because you are sneaking about, and suddenly hear an extremely loud advertisement for Mucinex because of an open internet browser, OR because you were looting Cherno, and thought you were alone, but weren't sure, so you sneak around anyway and suddenly *CRACK* a bullet hits the wall at head height just in front of you, and you suddenly have an urgent desire to get the FUCK out of dodge AND shit your pants at the same time.... Is this the greatest, best balanced game ever made? No. Is it the most original? No. Does it have the best graphics or animations? Certainly not. Is it even the most REALISTIC? NO NO AND NO. No one aspect of this game or its design stands as better than any other game. But something about it can inspire in me a sense of dread, fear, anticipation, adrenaline, remorse, regret, and of course, TRIUMPH! And the game isn't even in BETA yet. So thank you Rocket. This is truly, the best game I have played, to date.

Was killed at the electro power plant fire station while trying to investigate the "electro signal" Ran through and around all of electro twice, and detected no radio signals before being killed by a probable gamma exploiter (PROBABLE, not 100%). This was at nighttime. -

I love it when exploiters and cheaters try to justify their shit. I BELIEVE you op, when you say you don't think you did anything wrong. I just don't agree. YEAH. I hopped in the beginning, to learn about the game. See new buildings, new town layouts, find buggy places that I want to avoid (like castles, where all the loot spawns on the ceilings, and is unreachable). At no time did I do it to "gear up fast easy mode", so that I could gain an advantage over other players. I get it. You like the game. Its fun. Its entertainment. And you think cheating to heighten YOUR entertainment value while taking it away from others is ok. Its totally cool op. Your opinion. Your entitled to it. I just thing your fucking wrong, and that abusing an exploit is not ok. If you don't LIKE that I don't like your world view, you can kindly....nope. I wont say it. Ill get admin kicked for another day. -

One time? well it is what it is. Nobody is perfect. I don't claim be. Im not saying I am a better human being than you because I play a fukin VIDEO GAME with integrity. Im simply saying that cheating, in any form, be it an exploit, or a game hack, is pathetic. Its not a personal attack on you. As for your opinion of me and my high horse? I care. really, I do.... http://i.imgur.com/XPYwi.gif -

crazykage replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
Its my opinion. How I feel about it. "I" think it IS pathetic. "I" have a higher standard. But that is MY standard, and I do not expect or require you to adhere to it. And if you think I AM being judgmental, then maybe you should take a look at yourself. Afterall, you would have no need to feel judged if you had done nothing questionable... -

crazykage replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
No op. I haven't once combat logged. Not even while trying to investigate a mysterious radio broadcast in elektro (just now). So no. NOT all of us are on your pathetic level of exploit abuse. SOME of us can play a game fairly and with a sense of integrity. I DID server hop quite a bit in the beginning, but only so I could get a sense of the game and where loot spawned, and with what frequency. Never once did I do it to gear up and hunt bambis, or anyone for that matter. All of the characters I hopped with ended up dying when I tested walls on multi floor buildings for clipping issues. So NO. I am NOT on the same level as you. Im not JUDGING you per se, but just asking you to not bring me down to your level based on some wild assumption that just because YOU don't play with integrity, that everyone else doesn't as well. -
couldn't find that server in the browser. Was on a night server. Got back on, and did another scan of electro. Got killed at the power plant fire station. EDIT: Oh, and I also didn't hear anything on the radio, once again. EDIT EDIT: Im normally not one to bitch about KOS, but this one kinda irritates me. I was trying to investigate shit. Thanks, whoever you are. Gear loss is gear loss. But now it is impossible for me to continue to check into this thing. Ive been running around the countryside all week, and haven't seen a single person. Was hoping to find something to DO. Thought I had, but you killed me. And there wasn't even that glorious sense of fear, shock, and the adrenaline rush to go along with it. Just *bang bang.....bangbangbangbangbang. followed by a deep sense of disappointment. In retrospect, to make matters worse, I am FAIRLY certain (95%) the killer was using the gamma or some other visibility exploit to see better. Because that server was PITCH black for me. Could barely make out the horizon well enough to move around.

Update: Logged in. Attached fully charged 9v to my transmitter (worn condition, so SHOULD be working). Tuned to 87.8, turned it on, and switched from direct channel to 87.8 chatbar. Nothing. Walked through elecktro, starting at sniper hill, passing the power plant, through the city proper, then out and onto opposite hill. Received no transmissions, stopped three times on the way to scan all frequencies. Nothing. OP, where EXACTLY were you when you received the transmission? EDIT: wasn't on the same server, but if this is an actual IN GAME easter egg, one would think it would not be server specific.

I am currently JUST outside of electro, and I have a transmitter. I will log in shortly and confirm this.
