just a LITTLE more dangerous after patch? They seem to be much quicker to spot and give chase than before. Im not entirely sure tho, as it may just be that I was in an untouched town (nobody there since last server restart) and the town was just thick with them. But even so, I felt like they were just a little more dangerous than before...

just remember that "Cobop" means you are in either Starry or novy sobor.

I don't always play a medic, but when I do, I would like other players to be able to distinguish me from every other milspec kitted person in the game. Maybe either an item you actually find, like a helmet with a red cross on it, or a vest of some sort? (potential for abuse by evil doctors who perform medical experiments on hapless victims. Not that its an invalid choice of play style....) OR! Something that is earned by carrying a certain amount of medical loot (maybe a points value system for different items?), which causes a helmet/vest/helmet and vest to be worn by your character (which would offer the same protection as other helmets or vests). All of which is negated if you carry a firearm larger than a handgun? Thoughts?

I really was just poking fun op. No more and no less. And as for my signature, don't take that out of context. I rarely KOS, and if I do, its only when I am HUNTING, to which I add in a lot of preparation and ritual to make it challenging and engaging. My signature is more about the fact that I don't believe KOSing should be limited or punished in any way. I firmly believe that ALL players should be allowed to play however they want, and that INCLUDES killing a player the moment I see one for no other reason than the fact that I saw them, if I want to, which I rarely do at all (usually I lone wolf, watch, observe, and generally avoid player interaction at all).

I am very interested in finding one of these "fire guns" you mention. Pics or it aint real. Also, since when do stairs run away from people???? Again, pics or it didn't happen... NOTE: just poking fun, OP. I don't actually care that English isn't your first (or more likely not even your second) language. All in good fun...

Without the Murderer, what purpose would you have in helping bambis to protect themselves? Who or what do they need "protection" from? The zombies???? Don't make me laugh. Without that guy, your efforts are meaningless and hollow. Without that guy and others like him, there is no need for heroes such as yourself. No need for medics. No need for trading. Everyone can just peacefully run about and gather up every item in the game until everything everyone has is perfect and pristine, running from incompetent zeds that are somehow able to run through solid objects yet are still mostly incompetent. Can you REALLY not understand that without the threat of death and loss this game is no better than fucking FARMVILLE? Minecraft is a more rewarding experience: it takes thought and planning and vision to see your construct come into being. Without an PVP, and yes, that includes CoD kiddies spraying and praying like panicked 12 year olds that got their hands on daddy's AR, the game is NOTHING but a loot simulator. What in GODS GOOD NAME is the point in gathering all that stuff, if there is not a threat of LOSING IT? NOT ONCE have I died in this game to a zombie. NOT FING ONCE! HELL, the game's buggy PROGRAMMING is more lethal to me than about 90% of the players I encounter. No, I don't like it when some asshat hides around a corner and uses 3PP to see me coming down the street and blast me. Its cheesy and lame. I WOULD prefer that if a player kill me, he do so in a manner that requires intelligence, preparation, forethought, teamwork, or all of the above. But its still better than the alternative, and even though that guy hiding around the corner in 3PP was a douche, he is STILL part of the reason this game is so fun: actual fear and adrenaline rushes. AND lastly: Exactly. How YOU wanted to play this game. Stop being selfish.... EDIT: For the inevitable argument "its alpha, zeds will be more dangerous later on", I understand this. But I still don't think they will be much of a threat. No amount of AI programming will be as dangerous or clever as a human opponent. Think of it in terms of the Walking Dead tv show: The zombies in the show are almost a non issue. Sort of just THERE. A constant threat, but easily countered. The show isn't about the ZOMBIES. Its about the PEOPLE. Their interactions, growth, conflict, etc. DayZ is the same way, IMO. The zombie apocalypse is just a BACKDROP, an excuse or premise for the foundation of the game: player interaction. The multitude of possible outcomes. The stories we can create with one another. And a BIG part of all that is the players that kill other players.

Actually, I don't think the outbreak happened that long ago. Some of the street lights still work, which means electricity still flows. Most modern power plants are able to run automated without human intervention for some time, ESPECIALLY hydro electric ones (it is claimed by engineers that hoover dam could continue to function for a few months or more without any human input). Add to that the sheer PROLIFERENT presence of guns and ammunition, my assumption is that everyone went to bed one night, died in their sleep, and woke up as zombies. Otherwise, why would there not have been mass panic and looting right from the beginning? realistically, after such an event, there would be next to NOTHING to find in heavily populated areas.

Because, all the dead people that didn't have damaged brain housing groups got up and started walking around.... We are all infected. Didn't you know?

My rebuttal: I say keep the gun spawns where they are at currently. I searched the entirety of NWAF and found nothing but a single revolver in the firestation. Once I finished searching at Bashnya facility, the server restarted. So I said fuck it and searched again. This time I found a single FNx45. I searched EVERY building at NWAF TWICE and found one gun each time. I LIKE that fact. What I do think needs to be adjusted is ammunition. I think THAT should be exceedingly rare. Finding a single 5.56 under the desk of a barracks should be a gift from God. 7.62 should be rare, but not quite as rare as the 5.56. Pistol/revolver ammo next most common, while shotgun should be yet more common (slugs being rarer than buck), followed lastly by the most common: 22 lr (should be fairly easy to find, and only because it would be the perfect hunting round for when such is introduced, while being fairly unreliable at taking down a well equipped player). I seriously think that if you find a single 5.56 round somewhere, than it must be your birthday (consequently, the accuracy of an M4 would also need to be improved). This would force all players to consider very carefully the consequences of firing a shot at another player, and even force them to reconsider the value of even CARRYING a gun in the first place, knowing that ammunition is scarce, and the extra inventory space could be used for something else. Consider: M4 is highly accurate, and an empty mag can be attached to the gun. But ammunition is quite rare. Being held up by a player with an M4 becomes a game of calling their bluff. What if BOTH players have M4s but no ammo? A standoff ensues as both players weigh the odds of getting shot as the swap to their axes. Rare ammunition would be rewarding for the KOSers because the effort of finding ammunition and pulling off a successful kill will heighten the experience (for those who "hunt", like me), while deterring the type of KOSing wherein players treat the game like little more than a sluggish game of CoD, spraying and praying about like panicked 12 year olds that got their hands on daddy's AR. Player interaction will be enhanced severely as fewer players would be willing to shoot off their hard earned ammunition unless they REALLY had to, or REALLY wanted to, forcing them to engage opponents in other means, and most importantly, with more INTELEGINCE.

Updated map tools for users. Small news update.

So if the M4 spawns are to be decreased dramatically as civilian weapons are added then...
crazykage replied to Jezza93's topic in General Discussion
Not necessarily. plenty of people have survived multiple gunshot wounds, and done so for long periods without serious medical aid. its all very dependent on caliber and location. A 5.56 bullet lacks the FPS and stopping power of a 7.62, yes. But if I HAD to take a bullet, I would much prefer a 7.62. Why? a 7.62 is much more likely to punch a neat entry and exit hole, not stopping inside the body, which is far more survivable. A 5.56, on the other hand, could hit me in the shin, and wind up lodged in a lung due to the fact that the bullet has a tendency to tumble on impact, and in the human body, will bounce and ricochet off of bones. The sheer amount of massive internal damage from a single bullet could potentially cause a man to bleed out very quickly. 22. caliber bullets are so small as to be nearly useless for anything larger than small game. Some people have been shot at nearly point blank range multiple times in the head, and not one shot was able to penetrate the skull. 9mm has a tendency to not be able to efficiently DROP a target, but in the long term, tends to be lethal because the bullet has a nasty habit of not having enough velocity to exit, which in terms of gunshots, is very bad. Whereas 45s tend to do the same, with the added effect of causing a LOT more damage AND being able to DROP a target quickly, but also tends to be less accurate due to higher recoil (which is irrelevant to experienced shooters, of course). But ANY caliber is potentially lethal if it hits the right spot: the heart is near instantaneous. The spinal column, depending on how high up, is an obvious one, resulting in either incapacitation or death. The lungs, while very serious and not survivable without advanced medical aid, will not necessarily take someone out of the fight IMEADIATELY. And of course the brain is rarely survivable, even with modern medical advancements, however there have been reported cases wherein military personnel have been shot in the head (even so far as to have lost brain matter), yet been able to continue fighting for some time after. One of the men, I forget his name, on the seal team depicted in the movie "Lone Survivor" had this happen. Reading into it, it turns out he was shot 14 times, and once in the head. He continued to fight after all that before finally succumbing to enemy fire. Point being, that surviving a gunshot is VERY possible. Even if you only survive for a short time, you are not necessarily immediately out of the fight. -

Actually, I have. In my time in the Corps, I routinely put 10 out of 10 shots in the black at 500 yards, and with iron sights, not them easy mode ACOGS. Whats more, I have also shot a civilian version, and found myself to be just as effective with it as with the military variants. I have ALSO shot the A4 version in burst fire mode. So I know that at 100 to 200 meters, it is still accurate in burst fire. AND I have played arma 2. So I can say, conclusively, that the M4 in DayZ SA is NOT as accurate as it's real life OR its arma 2 counterparts. Even when firing a single shot, I still find my groupings to be horrendously under par at relatively short ranges. Be more careful in the future when throwing out the CoD or BF cards. Playing either of those games does not necessarily indicate a lack of knowledge, or misunderstanding thereof, of military life, tactics, equipment, or culture. -
The CCSD (Chernarian Creepy Stuff Department) Needs investigators for the Radio transmission mystery.

^True. Although I have my suspicions about C1 and his/her possible accomplices. And none of this discounts the possibility of an actual developer made, in game broadcast. At the very LEAST these events may lead to their later creation. -

Epic successful troll, victor. In terms of scope and effort, it was a class A achievement. It garnered an impressive reaction and attention. And, provided entertainment to those involved, rather than irritation or annoyance, as with most trolls. I said this before, and I will say it again: Even if a player IS responsible, if it is a hoax: I DONT CARE. It gave me something to do. And whats more, it may have (I certainly hope so) provided some inspiration to the devs to ACTUALLY put something like this in game. See how much attention a "fake" brought? The community came together to investigate, share information and tools, formed ideas and conspiracies and even INVESTIGATION GROUPS. If you guys (devs) don't put in some sort of secret or secrets for us to discover, puzzles to solve, I will be sorely disappointed. Thanks again Victor. You may have started something that becomes MUCH bigger later on, if the devs are smart. -

if we do that, we may never know the truth. I think it best that we withhold fire unless fired upon. -

undoubtedly, it is a player. But we must see this all the way through. We MUST see how deep the rabbit hole goes. Who knows? Maybe C1 is a dev, and the "reward" will be something cool. Or it is a trap that even admiral ackbar couldn't get us out of and we will all die. So what? We go back to the coast and gear up again for the next mystery. We still haven't solved the circumstances of the ENS broadcast. -

Absolutely. Its too bad the recording cut out at that last moment when he turned the transmitter off and back on (not to berate him or anything). If the message is repeating, maybe we will be able to decipher the full message! And as always, anyone interested please message me with your steam id or profile name so I can send you an invite to the official steam group.
