Patch 0.35 coming today, when do we get the patchnotes?
crazykage replied to Odahviing's topic in General Discussion
The servers are all down right now. Maybe its being applied as we speak? On that note, when do they expect the servers to be back up? -
So, earlier today, I logged in on top of this industrial building (brown one that is not enterable, has 2 ladders). After a few moments to let the desync go away, and reorganize my inventory, I prone and start scanning the area. LOW and behold, running out in the open, coming from the small military base south of NWAF, I see a tiny black speck moving across the field in my direction. I quickly pulled out my sks, zeroed it to 200, and waited for him to get closer. He was maybe 50 feet or so away from the main road, when I opened fire. I missed the first shot, but the second and third hit, I think. He stopped running, turned in a circle, and then did the strangest thing: He just sat down. Not crouched, but SITTING. I finished him off then, and looted his corpse. He had a ton of sks ammo and a nice pristine storage box, which I took. I drank all his soda, ate his apple, and took the bag of rice for later. I had no need for the rest, so I hid his body and ran back to a hidey hole to play a rousing game of inventory tetris, shortly after which the game crashed and I called it for the day. But my question is, WHY? Why did he just SIT DOWN? He made no attempt to escape, return fire, take cover (not that much cover was available to him). Why?

Server hopping has gotten worse. (actuall analysis, not a whine thread)
crazykage replied to crazykage's topic in General Discussion
.... At what point EXACTLY, did I say ANYTHING remotely similar to "crying"? So my opinion is just that. Even if it IS based on factual observations, its still my ANALYSIS of what I have OBSERVED. No, it isn't a college level dissertation. But every claim I make is based on a long period of, yes, undocumented, observations. I didn't make it up. I came here to encourage discussion and debate about a perceived issue. I NEVER claimed to be the be all end all authority on the matter. But YOU come in here, waving your dick around, acting all snotty, start slinging insults, take what I say out of context, and generally do everything possible to act like a general ASS. "BOOHOO LOOT IS HARD TO FIND, NEW PATCH MUST BENEFIT SERVER HOPPERS. SOURCE: I SAW IT ON SOME SERVERS." NOTHING that I have said at ANY point in this thread comes even remotely close to sounding like this. My OP specifically said at the end that I LIKE where the game is going, and encouraged the devs. This is YOU. This is YOUR SHIT! NOT mine. OWN IT! THIS is YOU coming into what was otherwise a polite discussion for the sole purpose of shitting all over it by trying to make me out to be some kind of child. And now, yes, I am pissed. Because frankly, I am sick and tired of this shit being allowed to continue. I reported several needlessly insulting posts in this thread, and NONE of them were removed. This entire forum is filled with more of the same: childish adults (presumably) that feel the need to SHIT on everyone and every thing they don't agree with what somebody has to say. Moderators. Please lock this thread. It has degraded into pointless shit slinging. -
Thank you, zeroy. THAT, I can respect. That being said, I am done defending this issue. I cannot possibly state my reasons more clearly, more eloquently, or more intelligently than I have already. Yet some people refuse to either accept a difference in opinion (without slinging insults, that is), or simply cannot cross the mental hurdle to understand my view point. So, from now on, I will simply say this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbIR51_J_qY OHHHH! The tears of unfathomable sadness!! MmmmYummy! Yummy gais!

No, it isn't just your opinion. Its opinion couched in insult. There is NOTHING "douchy" about what I do. it isn't a "douchy" way to play, its simply A WAY TO PLAY. I enjoy interaction with players. I thought it was hilarious when I got held up by 3 guys who handcuffed me and sprayed bleach in my mouth. But I don't want to limit myself to ONE play style in a, what was the word? Oh yeah....SANDBOX GAME! Personally, I have ZERO interest in trying to be a bandit, picking on fresh spawns by making them do "silly" things. I would much rather engage in very serious, potentially lethal, combat. and even then, not at all times. If you get to call me a Douche for playing a sandbox game the way I want to, then I guess its ok for me to call you a lovey-dovey pansy pussy for wanting everyone to play along all NICE and SWEET and letsallbefwends. But hey, that's just my "opinion",

I have thoroughly explained my reasons, here in this thread for KOS. Either you didn't read the post I made on page 2, or you simply don't agree. Which is fine. But yes. I KoS. Not even very often. But yes. I do it. And I THOROUGLY enjoy it, for reasons stated earlier. I GENUINELY look forward to the day that I hunt another player, and he turns the tables on me, killing ME instead. Then I can finally say "HELL YEAH! Someone BEAT me at my own game!" Its boring if you always win. You loose the sense of challenge...
-
nope. edited for delete. I have no interest in responding to your childish attitude, or continuing to debate with it. Ignore list is a wonderfull thing. I think im going to start seeing a LOT of white bars in this forum...
-
please read the last paragraph of my last post on page 2. I think you fail to understand why people do this sort of thing, or at least, why I in particular do it. Read it. Go on. then you might understand that it is about more than simply "ruining your day". Ruining your day, in fact, has NOTHING to do with it....

I was fully aware of the logout timer mechanic prior to this post. I was NOT aware of what character actually DO after the player logs out. I WAS under the impression that they just STOOD there. Having never seen a player log out until this moment, and being unable to see what my OWN character does, I was not aware that sitting down was the action in question. It never ceases to amaze me how people on the internet can be so vain, vicious, insulting, and intolerant, consistently lacking in an intelligent manner of speaking. Also, "fan boy"?

Ok, I see a lot of heated.....discussion....going on here. Words like "CoD", "douche", "butthumper", and "pumpernickel". I feel the need to say a few things: Number 1 is that PvP is the single most exciting thing about this game. The knowledge that at any moment, with just ONE tiny mistake, or EVEN just a simple case of bad luck, you can loose it all (and start all over again, rinse, repeat). If all you want to do is gather food and camp in the trees, you are playing the wrong game, IMO. But play how you like (so long as you don't dictate how I play either, and yes, that includes killing you). Many fail to realize just how boring the game would be without it. And do NOT try and use the zombie argument on me, I AINT BUYIN IT! YES, the game needs, will eventually have, and I look forward to, more dangerous and more numerous zombies. But this can go one of two ways: A: The zombies, despite increased threat, continue to be a backdrop to the game, a foundation or excuse for the circumstances, while the focus continues to be on the human interaction (be that interaction conversation or bullets). Similar to the show Walking Dead. The show isn't about the ZOMBIES. They are just there. A constant presence, and constant excuse for the story to take place the way it does. B: The zombies become an even bigger threat than other players. No matter how well the AI is programed, it will NEVER surpass the level of intelligence and deviousness of a human controlled player. They would have to be so challenging, so strong, so numerous, and unbalanced that dealing with them would become a constant source of irritation and rage. Ever played a game that had a difficulty setting so hard as to be nearly unbeatable? How is that achieved? The game's programing has to make it so unfair that the game might as well be cheating (and in the case of games like Total War, the game LITTERALLY does). That is the ONLY way a program that isn't a billion dollar super computer can "outsmart" a human opponent. And beating that system can be infuriating. This kind of gameplay does not belong in DayZ IMO. Number two is that KoS does not necessarily imply a lack of roleplay. I often (but not always, its a game) consider my actions in game to be a reflection of how "I" would react were I in the exact same situation. Consider: I wake up, washed up on the beach of some strange place. Last thing I remember was a sinking ship. I am hungry, thirsty, wet, and cold. Every thing I see indicates civilization, but nobody is around. Which is eerie as all fuck. I wander around, and eventually stumble into my first zombie. A corpse. Walking. FUCK THAT KILL IT WITH FIRE! I gather my wits, find what I need by scrounging, but I am still confused about what happened to me, and to this strange place where everything is in Russian. I don't read fukin Russian! Then it happens; I see another HUMAN BEING. As I am about to call out to him, I watch him get attacked and beaten to the ground, handcuffed, robbed, raped, then shot in the head before his molesters leave. yup. THAT just happened. When I eventually find a gun myself, I resolve to trust NO ONE. THAT shit will NOT happen to me. Later I see another player: he has valuable stuff I need. He is nearby. I don't know him. He might be a threat. I KILL HIM. Welcome to the jungle baby. If I ever DO trust someone, it will be someone I know personally, or highly circumstantial, and even more highly difficultly earned. And 3rd: No, not every kill is an act of honest rollplay. I am a US Marine. And, IRL, a decent shot (3rd award expert {consecutive}, 5 times in total). I was not infantry, but nonetheless still easily learned and understood the basic infantry concepts. Nonetheless, I was am not infantry, and never saw any "action" (just worked my ass off on the airfield, tearing up AM2 matting and operating arresting gear). As a Marine, instilled to a degree with a nature that revels in conflict and struggle, and as a skilled marksman, I have always wanted to go hunting. But the only "hunting" I have ever done involved a fishing rod (yep. Fishing is still hunting). I would LOVE to one day get a license and take my 30-06 savage 111 and go shoot a deer. Or bear. or moose, whatever. I would thoroughly enjoy the whole affair: the stalk, the hiding, sneaking, waiting in anticipation, taking the shot. But money and time have always gotten in the way. But you know what comes reaaaaaaaallly damned close? Playing DayZ. Here, I can pick my weapon, scout out my hunting grounds, zero the weapon with some well aimed practice shots, stalk my prey, lie in wait, take the shot. And whats more? My prey could EASILY suddenly become my hunter if I do something wrong. Hell, just as in real hunting, I could do EVERYTHING right, and still get blasted. The pure rush of attempting to outwit and kill, yes, KILL another human being, capable of the same level of higher thought as me, is amazing. AND I don't have to worry about real world concepts like morality, empathy, the law, or the outright fact that I would never gain any actuall pleasure from literally killing a fellow human being. But in DayZ, it is possible to pit my wits, cunning, skill, and luck against another human being, and guess what? No matter how it turns out, both walk away from it un harmed. Do you grasp my meaning here? I don't mean to sound sociopathic, but there it is folks! This, for me, is fucking exciting! Its not to troll you, or make you miserable, or ruin your experience. Its because I revel in the challenge of outwitting my fellow man (woman?) in a life or death struggle, in which nobody actually gets hurt! GAAAAHHHH!! Its so AWESOME! Ok I gotta go. I got a serious urge to fukin stalk and kill someone right now. In game of course....

crazykage replied to crazykage's topic in General Discussion
I apologize for jumping the gun on you earlier, i seem to have misread the "inflection" of what you said. You are right, in that this was not a true, legitimate "ANALYSIS". But then i wasn't trying to write a college masters' degree level dissertation on the subject either. I simply took what i have seen and experienced since the implementation of the timers, and formed an idea of what was going on based on logical assumptions formed from my understanding of how people play the game, how and why they farm loot, and what happens when they do (the cascading effect i pointed out earlier being an example). Basically a sort of "If "A", then "B', and if "C,D, and E" also, then must but "XYZ", thought process, if that makes any sense. Its true that there are a lot of assumptions here, but most are based, if nothing else, on logical thinking. Maybe i WILL do as you suggest, but i doubt i have that much time. I would LIKE to tho... -

crazykage replied to crazykage's topic in General Discussion
Ok. I am NOT doing this. I am NOT going to continue to feed attention to these people (this simply being an example). If you disagree, fine. Give me valid reasons, or a well though out rebuttal. Tell me WHY I am wrong, make an argument, and do it in an intelligent manner that is not rude or insulting. This kind of attitude is what is ruining this community. If you have nothing constructive to add, and cant do it in a respectfull manner, I refuse to argue with you. For fucks sake, put some THOUGHT into things, instead of shooting me down for doing EXACTLY what we should all be doing: working with the devs to make the game better. -

crazykage replied to crazykage's topic in General Discussion
Who are you talking to? ME? Server hoping was NOT fixed. Combat logging and ghosting was. I "bitched" about nothing. Merely commented on my own personal observations of recent events. I knew this was going to happen. I hoped it would take a little longer, but here it is. Why is it that whenever someone tries to talk about or discuss something in an intelligent and thoughtful manner around here, someone feels the need to enter into it in a manner that is either trollish, insulting, or both? Ignoring for a moment the manner in which you seem to be rudely attacking my views on the matter, NO. I do not have EMPIRICAL evidence. I didn't record anything, or take notes, or make any videos. NO, it is not an OPINION, but an observation of events and an assumption formed thereof, and NO, it is not just my experience (others have stated in this very thread that they share, to some extent, my experiences. If my "analysis" seems "simplistic", as you so rudely point out, its because I DONT have any empirical data to quote. You agree with me that server hoping is a problem, yet in the same sentence shoot down my views on why it is happening. Why? You failed to mention YOUR views on the matter, but have no problem in telling me that I am wrong, and in a manner which is somewhat snarky. Unless you have something to contribute yourself, don't agree with me then insult me and tell me Im wrong. It is uncalled for and unnecessary. If you don't agree with something i have said, there is a proper way to tell me so. -

crazykage replied to crazykage's topic in General Discussion
See the edit I made in my post above for my response on heli crashes. As to the rest: More locations for mil loot and lower probabilities will only increase the number of locations hoppers or farmers have to choose from, and lower probabilities will only increase the length of time they will have to hop and loot. Which, as I said above, causes a cascading effect of higher risk, therefore higher rates of death, therefore more frequent hopping, therefore more players encouraged to hop. As to longer server switch time penalties, this STILL would not stop loot farming or hoping, and in the end would only punish everyone else that switches servers for honest reasons (lag, disconnects, crashes, etc.) Making good gear spawns spread out randomly prevents players from knowing where to go to get them, which forces us to spread out, rather than converge. Again, I think this would negatively impact the overall experience. Currently, it is a thrill and a rush to go to military zones, knowing that other players may be on their way, or there already, or even waiting in ambush. Take away that fear factor, and the greatest appeal this game has is gone. I said before in a thread thanking dean and the dev team, that NOTHING about this game stands out as better than any other: the mechanics are clunky, the graphics are sub par by modern standards, etc. Its the genuine adrenal rush I get every time I hear a fence rattle, or see a player in my scope that makes this game one of, if not THE, best I have ever played. Recently, I made a thread about having aced another player after he logged out. I had EVERY advantage over him. He stood NO chance of beating me. Yet as I was scoped in on him, my heart rate accelerated, my palms got sweaty, even my trigger finger was getting jittery. I DO NOT want that to go away. Forcing players to converge on certain hot spots enhances this, and increases the frequency with which it occurs. Player stat tracking, while a creative idea, I think is a bad thing for this game. It could potentially punish players who have done nothing wrong. And if extended to track things like K/D ratios, would negatively impact this community. I am continuing to try to imagine a manner in which respawning loot could be implemented and not abused. I DO want to play on a private hive, but I would also like to play in public hive from time to time, and not be forced to constrain myself at all times to the rules of a single community. Yeah, sometimes, I just want to go out, find a gun, and kill someone. I LOVE hunting my fellow players in this game. I mean actually HUNTING. Its a rush like no other to be able to try and seek out, outwit, and KILL another, intelligent, conscious, thinking, plotting player in such a huge environment. Something I could never do IRL, due to empathy, morality, law, etc. -
Server hopping has gotten worse. (actuall analysis, not a whine thread)
crazykage replied to crazykage's topic in General Discussion
I also understand that this phenomenon is by no means all inclusive (that is to say it is the case everywhere). Nor does it make playing the game "impossible", just more difficult. There is a certain amount of bad luck involved as well. But now that I have had a chance to mull over what I and others have said here, a new thought occurred to me: Respawning loot will NOT fix the issue. No matter how the system is implemented, loot farming in some form (be it hopping servers, or looting an area and coming back later) will always exist. I cant begin to imagine a way that respawning loot can be implemented, that players will not begin to, at some point, learn how it functions and how best to abuse it. Timers, ratios, some sort of value system (say, for example, common items have a low points value, while ammo and guns are higher points respectively, and each building or otherwise "zone" has a maximum value that cannot be exceeded), all of these things could be eventually figured out, and players will abuse them once they know how they work. The only thing I can think of that would prevent this, is either having EVERY server on a private hive, or to only play on private hive/whitelist servers when they are implemented (the later being something I look forward too, personally). EDIT: while I WOULD like to see a return of heli crash sites, I would NOT like to see this be the only means of obtaining weapons or other military loot. If other, civilian weapons could still be found elsewhere, it would not fix loot farming, it would only make CERTAIN items rare. And if it was the ONLY means of obtaining a firearm period, I think that it would negatively impact gameplay. In general, your average player would not be armed with a gun, and would therefore be of little threat, detracting from the fear caused by the constant risk current player encounters bring, which is NOT something I want to see go away. I really enjoy the fact that every player I encounter (with the exception of bambis) could be heavily armed and dangerous, and waiting for me in that bush just up ahead. -
Server hopping has gotten worse. (actuall analysis, not a whine thread)
crazykage replied to crazykage's topic in General Discussion
What with all of the discussion on the subject here in the forums, and with having played the game and understanding the mechanics of it, it isn't hard to imagine (pre timer mechanics) how to best "loot farm". Added to that fact that I did it myself quite a bit when I first started playing, but rather than to gear up fast, I did it to learn about the game, and what types of loot spawn in what buildings, as well as to test walls, ladders, and stairs for clipping issues. When I was doing this, I generally only took what I needed (and filled those needs very quickly), and left everything else untouched. I didn't stockpile ammo, or farm weapons or attachments (food and sodas only in general, and only if I needed them). I also made sure not to use those characters (they died a lot, usually to deliberately clipping through walls) I hopped with in any kind of interaction with other players, be it friendly interaction or combat. This was a while ago, and since then I have not hopped, although I DO generally play on low pop servers (unless actively seeking player interaction, and even then I stick to servers that aren't full). I don't do this as a more "honest" form of hopping (not actively switching servers, but still safely gearing up on low pop), but rather because I cant stand the poor performance of the game on high pops, what with lag, latency, issues picking up items or dropping them, pulling out weapons, opening doors, etc. Not to mention the constant flood of player sounds (opening cans, eating, reloading) that I hear in hi pop, but are far less common in low pop. -

crazykage replied to crazykage's topic in General Discussion
"Well...if server hoppers are now in the big cities, the chances that they get killed more often are bigger, so in fact, no problem for me." True, they are forced to expose themselves more, and as such, the rate of death increases accordingly. But this just makes the problem worse. Every time that hopper dies, he then CONTINUES to hop, increasing the rate at which towns are cleared out. This is a CASCADING problem: Hoppers hop, die, hop more. Loot is cleared out in towns, other players forced to hop if they want to gear up, more towns are cleared out, etc. I have literally observed DOZENS of low pop servers in my favorites and history list repeatedly getting cleaned out shortly after restarts. Over and over I see players appear in the player list and disappear within 10 minutes. Rarely do I see another player stick around for more than 30. As far as rocket's comments about respawning loot and zeds, I was aware he had said something about them coming soon fairly recently. I am simply urging it forward. Do not misunderstand this as a complaint. Im not whining because I cant find 4 storage boxes, ammo can, TTsKO set, ballistic helmet, gas mask, pistol, revolver, rifle, and enough ammo to fight a war, and all of it pristine. This is just an observation, and nothing more. -
Loot vs. server hoppers = main problem in DayZ-SA
crazykage replied to timedance's topic in General Discussion
On a more positive note, has anyone else noticed that certain areas are a little more "fleshed out"? I have noticed that some areas have new fences and objects. Example: berezino, by the schoolhouse, inside the industrial park by the coast, there are new fences and log piles. The whole area looks less empty now. Ive seen more examples of this elsewhere, where before there were just buildings, now there are new static objects in the world in some places that make the place feel less empty. Anyone else? Im going back to the game to try some more servers. Maybe ill break my streak of bad luck. -
Loot vs. server hoppers = main problem in DayZ-SA
crazykage replied to timedance's topic in General Discussion
lost my character due to lag. Respawned. No problem, its the nature of the game. Ran to berez: cleaned out. Not even rotten fruit. Just a ton of pants and batteries. Eventually scraped together an improvised backpack, moto helmet (badly damaged), and a pipe wrench. Server restarted. Great! ill just log back in, and have some fresh loo... *im in Kamyshovo, and a zombie is in my face. Now im bleeding. (hive didn't get the last 2 hours of character). Logged out for a smoke break, came back, still bleeding, bandaged, ran to elektro instead. Again, totally cleaned out. EVERY door open. ZERO items (with the exception of blue jeans and batteries). I hoped to another server to see if I could get some better luck: NONE. 5 minutes later, in a different server, I manage to find a single black t-shirt and a badly damaged fire axe (axe was lucky find, clipped into the floor). Everything else? Gone. Just pants and batteries. Occasionally, a flash light. I switch servers again. 5 minutes later, I get in, empty. No players, AND no loot. (every server up to this point has been 1 to 2 players population). Just batteries and pants. while running down the street, my game freezes for a second, then black screen "you are dead". Character is reset, run back to elektro (different server), find it partially looted. Get myself a shotgun and 2 rounds, then killed by the only other player in the server because his lag was slightly less bad than mine (I died while he was behind a wall. Was going to round the wall and kill him, but just as I approached the corner BANGBANG, THEN he comes around the corner, I see his gun move from recoil, and THEN I died). New spawn, new server, new 5 minute wait, I try berez again, and AGAIN, find NOTHING but pants and batteries. I cant even scrape together enough gear to make a trip inland. Cant find food, weapons, clothes (or any other storage). Its all gone because people are fucking hopping non stop. FML. This morning has been an exercise in utter futility... -
I don't feel or intend to express being high and mighty. And I DO feel that the kill was totally legit. Had he been in the town already, or right beneath me, I would have let him go un molested in the name of fair sport. But he was running, full tilt, from the military base, in the open, towards the little town I was in (Vybor). I doubt very highly that he cleared that rooftop, ran to the base, AND ran back. And even if he had cleared it, you cant just assume it stays empty after you leave. And, as I said before, I WAS lucky. That time around I had the better position, luck, situation, etc. Tomorrow I might be the one under the scope. Ambushes can be, and are, everywhere.

This kind of attitude, NOT KoS, is what is ruining this game's community. "So somebody shot at me, and now im gonna lose all this digital stuff..." Cry some more. Then use derogatory and hateful terminology that expresses a lack of tolerance for the lifestyle choices of another human being. Im not the one ruining this game.
-
I feel I should be clear about this. YES. everything you say is true, but also lacking some context. I missed the first shot, but subsequent shots all hit (as far as I know. I only know the first shot missed because the dirt kicked up behind him). Considering dispersion being what it is, I would say this is decent shooting. Not great, but decent. The skill came in my choice of positioning. Read Sun Tzu. Terrain and knowledge of it is everything in combat. I had been camping this spot for a WHILE now (on another one of my "hunting trips"). Last night I spent several hours patiently waiting for prey on a high pop server, and saw NO ONE. I logged in today expecting much the same, but as LUCK would have it, a mere minute later prey finally came to the watering hole. In combat, TECHNICAL skills (shooting, etc.) are just as important as TACTICAL skills.

Can this thread PLEASE be moved somewhere else? Its taking up space in the forum, pushing other discussion away, and for what? So the op can brag endlessly about bambi kills, gym workouts, and post pictures of himself. The whole thread is just a constant "LOOK AT ME, IM AWESOME!" troll fest. OP CANNOT claim it is an attempt to challenge other players (like my cobra commander skit I tried to do), because he STILL will not post the server ID. OP is nothing more than an attention whore. Please move this to somewhere more appropriate.
