  2. CCSD BLACK FOREST INFESTATION INVESTIGATION (CONT.) ONGOING: While it has been confirmed that B.F. is in fact infested, more remains to be done. It is necessary to continue to explore B.F. for the purpose of acquiring any further relevant data, as well as to further corroborate the validity of the fact. Therefore, all members of the community are encouraged to report past or present findings, either confirming or denying this issue. Survivors are NOT encouraged to investigate B.F. themselves, as this is extremely dangerous. Report only on past findings. If you investigate on your own, you do so at your own risk. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. Further, as stated previously, it is necessary to determine if this is a phenomenon localized and unique to Black Forest, OR if it is in fact a global issue. Some recommended areas that seem likely candidates (remote areas typically not associated with infestation): Green mountain Lesnoy Khrebet (just west of black forest) [recently checked by myself; no signs of infestation detected. more investigation required] Dubina Rog Windy Mountain (also the forested area just south of windy mountain, which is the location of a strange statue and ham radio, if I recall correctly) Klen, and surrounding forest Black Mountain Ostry (Thoroughly explored all roads, structures, and surround forest. No Infected detected) Coordinates 103-025 (Area appears to be nothing more than an old pine tree farm. No infected detected) Devils Castle and surrounding forest\ UNRELATED: "Camp Lesnoy", at coordinates 083-078. Further investigation for infestation required, as well as the need for a radio crew to check for signals in this particularly suspicious location, as noted in my original report in the first transmission. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ This concludes my report on all current data. More corroborating reports can be found in the original thread, that while lacking in details, at least lend to the validity of CCSD's current conclusions (http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/173247-ccsd-investigation-request/page-3) Good luck, and stay alive people Kage out.

    Aliens!

Saw this exact same thing once while investigating claims of zombie infestation throughout the area of black forest (conclusive evidence proves this to be true). One female zombie was running towards me, down a hill from the tree line. It seemed to trip on something and just fell down and disappeared a few moments later.

I doubt would happen. But we can dream. As a side note (and shameless promotion of the group), the CCSD is still recruiting members. Send me a message including a steam id, and I will process your application as soon as I can.

Here we see two zeds, one to my front, one to my left. After taking picture and dispatching them, I was attacked by a third from the rear. An example of one of the dead found in an open clearing, right smack in the middle of the forest. After dispatching this one near the top of a hill, far from the roads and buildings, I was attacked in sequence by 3 more. Spotted a 4th as I was moving down off the hill. The campsite and radio tower in Lesnoy Khrebet, coordinates 083-078 EDIT: all of these images were taken from my first trip. Subsequent trips were much the same.

After exploring the area in and around black forest on several servers, I have reached the following conclusions: 1: Black Forest IS IN FACT infested with the dead. 2: I encountered and killed roughly 15 of the dead on the first trip, 20 on the second, and 17 on the third. On subsequent trips, I focused more on trying to pin down a general area of spawn, rather than hard numbers (failed to do so). 3: Approximately 1/3 to 1/2 of the zombies I encountered where either on, or nearby (within 100 meters) the road that passes through black forest, and in particular, the area around the "T" junction. The rest were found scattered around hill tops, and occasionally wandering in small open clearings. I can CONFIRM that they are not simply spawning on or near the road or the few buildings in the wood. They can and DO appear throughout the rest of the area, more than 150-250 meters away from the roads. What is disturbing about this is that it is impossible to know just how many may be there. My earlier attempts to count the numbers only account for those that I encountered. Further, about 3/4 of the deep woods encounters were a result of me being spotted first. They seem to have heightened senses of smell or hearing, as many chased after me without any direct line of sight, while I was not aware of them until they growled or were so close that I could hear their shambling footsteps. MANY times I would slay one, only to turn back to go on my way and find a second only feet away. Often they seemed to come after me one after another, attacking me from behind as I dealt with the threat to the fore. Traveler beware: It is very easy to find yourself ambushed. 4. I CANNOT confirm the existence of any "horde", as I failed at any time to find more than 4 or 5 in one area, and even then they were somewhat spread out. It seems likely however, that one group might wander into another, or two groups might spawn nearby each other, creating the illusion of a horde. Also, if running near the T junction, it is possible a survivor may attract several zombies form the nearby tree line, and be unaware of them giving chase until they stop farther ahead when encountering another group. Then the first group catches up, and the survivor finds himself surrounded (I was able to force this to happen with a little deliberate effort). Regardless, the possibility of a genuine horde cannot be totally dismissed just yet, and horde or no, it can be safely said that no part of black forest is safe (do not log out there!), as BOTH the road/buildings, and general forest are infested. 5. I also took the opportunity to explore Lesnoy Khrebet, the small wood just west of black forest. While there I DIDNOT encounter a single zombie, although I DID find a rather mysteriously placed radio tower, which was just uphill from the ruins of a small camp (ruined fence/wall, small outhouse shack, and an empty fireplace). Note to the CCSD to further investigate this site with radio equipment (which I lacked at the time) in the future. I hereby dub the site "Camp Lesnoy", at coordinates 083-078. Summary: TRAVEL ADVISORY! It is highly recommended that any survivors avoid this area at all costs. There is little to nothing of value to be found in the area, and it is occupied by scattered groups of the dead. Due to the dense foliage and low visibility, and the dead's heightened senses of hearing and/or smell, they can easily detect you before you can detect them, resulting in survivors accidently drawing unto themselves more and more dead as they pass through the area. If you MUST pass through, it is recommended that you do so quickly, do so armed, and do NOT stop to rest (log out). You may find yourself being attacked in your sleep (while stuck after logout, or while stuck during login). Further data will be added as it is acquired. That is all. EDIT: will follow-up with visual surveillance footage shortly.

back from school. will log on and do some exploration of B.F. zombie horde anomaly.
  9. Why? Because. Also, they look cool. I especially would like to see a black variety. Then I could wear a black cowboy hat (do these exist, or are they all the same color? if not, they SHOULD), black sunglasses, and carry a 357. Then, I would change my game name to "Mysterious Stranger"....

The more the better. Corroborating evidence from multiple sources will help us get to the truth that much quicker. But we must also assume the possibility that this phenomenon is NOT exclusive to black forest. Other likely candidates? Green mountain Lesnoy Khrebet (just west of black forest) Dubina Rog Windy Mountain (also the forested area just south of windy mountain, which is the location of a strange statue and ham radio, if I recall correctly) Klen, and surrounding forest Black Mountain Ostry Coordinates 103-025 (strange wall/fenced in area north west of ostry) Devils Castle and surrounding forest\ All of these seem likely candidates for this phenomenon, and may be worth checking into to discover if it is exclusive to black forest, or a global event.

Closer inspection of the DayZDB map shows a few objects in the vicinity of black forest that may or may not yield clues: 091-075: Small structure close to a road, but not connected to it. 097-075: Structure on the road at the entrance to black forest 090-073 & 091-073: This road has two buildings, and what appear to be fences or walls as shown on the map. All of these structures will need to be investigated, in addition to a thorough search of the surrounding woods (in the event that anything new was added in that DayZDB has yet to update). What we may have here is a possible lead on some sort of locus or focal point for the beginning of the infestation. If the dead in this area are in fact, more advanced in some way, they may have been there longer than other "standard" dead. Perhaps this is the origin point? All assumptions and wild guessing, but only time and investigation will truly tell the tale.

Just went to DazDB map to figure out where it was. I knew that afterwards I ended up in Gorka. After looking at the map, a chill went down my spine: The area I was in at the time was the black forest....

As a side note, I HAVE noticed earlier today after the recent update (and before encountering crashing issues) while running along dirt roads deep in the hills and forests, several zombies standing or walking nearby. There were no structures or buildings nearby where zombies typically only spawned around before. This particular observation was made shortly after the servers came back up, in an otherwise empty server....

  15. Im really concerned. I don't know how serious these blue screen crashes im getting are, of if they are even being caused by the game rather than my hardware/software trying to run it. im going to give it a rest for a while and see what happens as news about the update develops. I have homework to do anyway....
  16. I had 3 servers In a row give me an authentication timeout before I had even made it fully into the game. Add to that that the game has crashed my AMD Display drivers into a crash/recover loop that BSODed my computer twice (1st time was after 15 minutes, second was after 10, approximately). Yeah, not sure what's causing it, but I wasn't getting BSOD's before the update. The lag would cause crashes or disconnects, but not a straight out blue screen...

    Book suggestions/wishlist:

If there is already a suggestion thread about this, I didn't find it using search. If you are aware of said thread, link it or something, and ill repost there. Otherwise, here I suggest you post any books you would like to see added to the game. Even if there was no way in hell it would ever make it due to copyright, etc. Just any book you would like to see in game. ME: James Clavel's "Shogun". also: The entirety of the "Chronicles of Thomas Covenant" series, by Stephen R. Donaldson. (I would murder/maim/massacre every person playing the game to have a character owning the entire collection.....)
  18. As said OP. With time, you will have zero trouble navigating your way around. First, you will start to recognize certain locations as you spawn at them over and over. Next, you will remember what towns or buildings or whatever lay nearby and in what directions. Eventually, you will begin to recognize that certain structures spawn certain types of loot with certain frequencies, enabling you to gear up and feed yourself with greater speed and efficiency. Eventually, you will develop a sort of "stomping grounds", an area you frequent consistently due to constant deaths from lack of experience (or bandits). As you expand outward, you will become familiar with more and more areas. Eventually, you will even begin to recognize the Cyrillic road signs, even if you cant read them (example: I know that "Cobop" means "Sobor", indicating I am either in "Starry" or "Novy"-"Sobor"). And one day, you will realize, that you essentially know the finer points of the map like its tattooed to the back of your hand. Besides, you can also use this excellent tool: http://dayzdb.com/map/chernarusplus#4.070.039

Dog Tags good or bad idea ?

I fully support KOS, or rather those that choose to do it (I don't always, but like to be able to). But this, I think, would encourage it even further than is necessary. Stat tracking of any kind that tracks K/D should stay the HELL out of DayZ, IMO. KoS is fine, but its nice to know that other forms of interaction can be looked forward to. IMO, a K/D ratio would only make more players treat this game like it is a standard shooter, and nothing more, rather than a game with shooter elements.

    Blood Bag

BRILLIANT!!!!!! I would SOOOOOO play as a medic more often if the role could be fleshed out more. And this is one EXCELLENT first step that could be made in that direction! I would also like to see medic tools: scalpel, tweezers, stitching thread/needle (removal of bullets, stitching up wounds, etc.), which could be stored in a medical BAG (like the med kit, but bigger). I like to imagine the medical bag as having a large internal inventory space (16 or more slots), while taking up 2 full rows of backpack space (2X5?). The tradeoff being, of course, that only medical items could be stored in it, and that its large internal space is offset by taking up a lot of space in the backpack, which would discourage players that are not dedicated medics to avoid it in preference for the smaller med kits. OP, if you like that suggestion, why not add it to your OP. I would REALLY like to see the medical aspect of the game expanded, and just your one suggestion caused my brain to flood with ideas, this being one of the more practical ones.... ALSO: blood test kits need to be more common, or reusable (maybe cleaned with bleach or tincture to enable reuse?)
  21. I understand your frustrations, OP, but frankly, I and many others would say no to these ideas. You will, with time and experience, learn the lay of the land (I rarely need a map) and the theory of gameplay. You have a unique position: You haven't played the mod (I assume by your post), which means you have little to no background knowledge of the game, and have JUST started S.A. This means that for you, the adventure, discovery, and learning have just begun. Your first eventual success (healthy, well fed, decently equipped character) is not far behind after that, and with that, your first taste of adrenal fueled fear as the paranoia kicks in and you begin to jump at every sound and shadow. Then a chill down your spine as you hear the report of a rifle, the disappointment of the death screen, followed finally by a sense of slight relief that the paranoia and fear is OVER, and you can start fresh. Its a brutal game for a beginner, OP. It can be brutal for the more experienced too. Welcome to the jungle....

    Alternatives to the ballistic helmet

if someone already proposed this, then I apologize, but support the idea. If not, I claim all credit for saying it first: MARPAT covers. In the US military, our Kevlar helms can be wrapped in a digi cammo cloth that is woodland pattern on one side, and desert pattern on the other (or other patterns, depending on the branch). Along the rim of the wrap are little loops through which Velcro straps (which are themselves part of the interior of the helmet) are inserted that hold it in place. It would be awesome if we could find different patterned covers: urban, woodland, naval, flat (solid color, not cammo), etc. As well as maybe different pattern types (splotch, spatter, digital, etc.).

This game needs trench coats? Yea or nay?

this makes me sad. I r disappoint. The POX on you for telling me this Knar! The POX! It may well be true, and you may have meant no harm, but the POX ON YOU ALL THE SAME!!! (sorry, been reading james clavel's shogun lately...) EDIT: Just got another idea for the suggestions.....
  24. hey. you never know. It could happen. For all we know the game is ready: cars, loot respawn, moar zeds, bases, and everything else, and the devs were just going to surprise us all... :)
