This logout system seriously needs to be deleted
crazykage replied to dokibaxxi's topic in General Discussion
What I find funny is that the implementation of this system hasn't STOPPED combat loggers. OHHHHHH NOOOO. They still exist. The only difference is that NOW, when they do it, they stick around and pop a squat for 30 seconds. I wonder how long it will be before the general community of players finally becomes aware of the mechanic. Because I am STILL encountering combat loggers. Ran into 4 of them today. In a row. And killed every one of them for their cowardice. It shocks me that so many people seemingly still don't know about this mechanic. They see me or otherwise encounter me, and just sit down. And I kill them. Its happened so many times that I am beginning to think that the VAST majority of players are totally unaware of the development process, reddit, or these forums, and just play the game completely oblivious to any changes in the game until it slaps them in the face. I mean, c'mon! If you KNEW that you sat down for 30 seconds when you logged out, and you KNEW that I was nearby, WHY would you log out? Do you assume that I just wont fuck with you and let you disappear in 30 seconds! NO! Nobody would be that stupid. If you KNEW, you would run away, or put up a fight, or SOMETHING, to have a chance of protecting your character. But these people......they see me and just sit down! I really think they just DONT KNOW! -
Do a lot of people not know about the anti combat logger mechanic, or WHAT?

To answer your question, the link below essentially outlines everything you would need to know as a civilian. The military doctrine is much the same, with a little more complexity as it involves squad movements, rather than the individual. It also involves other techniques including flash bang suppression, non-entry point breaching (entering through the roof or a wall, using explosives, which defenders often do not expect), and other things. But the principal is essentially the same. Gradually clearing a room while exposing yourself as little as possible until you have either identified a threat or confirmed that it is empty. I should also point out that while I understand the theory and implementation, my actual "training" involved me being dressed in civilian clothes, equipped with a very powerful airsoft AK-47, running from building to building laying CO2 powered booby traps, and shooting at all of my fellow marines (I was on the "OP-FOR" team). Needless to say, I had a blast that day. LOTS and LOTS of blasts.....ah. Good times. -
are you absolutely certain that when you logged out that nobody else was nearby?

I think you mean Daimyo (high ranking lords that owned large portions of land). There was never at any point in time in Japan's history more than one Shogun. In fact, from the beginning of the Sengoku Jidai (age of the warring states) there was only one EVER; Ieyasu Tokugawa, who united all of japan under his rule. His descendants continued to rule the shogunate until the Meijii period, when the last tokugawa shogun returned the rule of japan to the emporer (who until then was little more than a puppet). The more you know.... Also, yeah, while I wouldn't want to see a katana in dayz (I don't think it would really fit with the location and all), I would disagree as to its effectiveness. Some stainless steel rat tail tang piece of shit? It would probably snap at the hilt after only a few swings and helicopter away. A real, full tang, forged blade would last quite while, if not forever if it was properly cared for. Even a relatively cheaper model would be quite useful if it was properly forged.... Ever seen Walking Dead? Think of Michone (spelling), the black chick that carries a katana. In the hands of a properly trained weilder, it would be just about the same IRL.

OK, yes, I did mis read that part at the beginning. No need to insult my intelligence over a petty mistake. So then my question becomes this: How do you justify being an asshole? The players who own these servers aren't allowed to enforce their rules, lest they have the server taken away. But that doesn't justify forcing your play style on them. If you literally are just doing it to be an asshole, and for no other reason, then there is no more debate. You ARE an asshole. At least you admit to it and don't try to cover it up, I suppose. Essentially, you are being nothing more than a bully, yes? I would know. I recognize the mentality, as I was bullied horrendously in my school days. I later joined the USMC and became a hardened, disciplined, trained killer, but that's another story. Whats laughable is that you aren't even being a bully IRL. THAT at least requires a certain level of physical strength and mental confidence to be able to pull it off without getting your ass kicked. No, your being a bully in a GAME! That only requires knowing how to click a mouse. I don't even find this insulting or offensive anymore. Now I find it petty and childish. Pathetic, quite frankly. But hey, if you are ok with being an asshole, at least you are honest with yourself about it. Better that then deceiving yourself into thinking your helping anyone by forcing your playstyle on them. Its funny, because I always used to respect the bullies more than everyone else, if only for the strange sort of honest integrity they had. It was everyone else that really pissed me off. They were to morally high on themselves to engage in bullying themselves, but it was totally ok to stand back and let it happen right in front of them. LOL. Society is so fucked up.

You are just further proving my point. You say to let loose, and play the game, not take it so seriously. But then you yourself ARE taking it too seriously by forcing your play style (batshit insane character) on other players, in a place they created specifically to AVOID you, in a game where there "is no society", and what not. Don't delude yourself. You aren't doing them any favors by showing them the "true nature of the game", a game which is a sandbox, and whose only true nature is what WE make it into. INCLUDING a friendly, cooperative environment. All you are doing is being an asshole and ruining someone else's fun. Now, if you were in a PVP server, and killed a player, and he or she bitched about it, saying that you should not be allowed to pvp, or that you should have some sort of punishment mechanic forced on you to control your playstyle, then that player is full of shit. But you are actively and deliberately seeking out other players in a PVE server, in order to shit all over their fun because you think your way is better. They made this "place" so that they could play their way without interference, and leave you to enjoy the game YOUR way in another place, without interference. They are not forcing their non PVP play style on you by doing so. You aren't some kind of savior, bringing the light of truth to them. Your being a dick, forcing them to play a GAME the way you want them to. Its no better than non KOSers asking for a punishment mechanic.

what is "glitchy" about it? Some sort of clipping issue?

EDIT: accidental double post.

The FIRST time I have seen anyone come up with a logical explanation (and a polite one) for why people should not respect the rules put in place by the renters of a server. There is only one problem I see with this: You cant PROVE that every player on a PVE server is loot farming. I don't doubt that most are, but you cant point the finger at EVERYONE and assume that is what they are doing. Maybe, JUST maybe, they are trying to immerse themselves into a world, and trying to find someone to team up with for some cooperative roll play. I have gone into PVE servers myself, looking for that kind of gameplay, and you know what happened? The first guy I encountered opened up on me. I dropped him like a sack of bricks, of course, but he started it. So when you join a PVE server and kill other players, you have no way of knowing if they ARE, without a doubt, loot farming. And even if you did, who made you the video game police? I still think its not right to join a PVE server, looking for a fight and showing ZERO respect for the owner's request that you follow the rules they aren't even allowed to fully enforce. Why do you feel the need to police these places, rather than just play the game your way on a server where it is "allowed"? I do however agree that what you have stated is the REASON WHY server owners are not allowed to enforce those rules. I just don't agree that it is an excuse to rudely enter their world and break them when you have other options available.
-
Am I the only one that KoS'es and actually respects those server rules? I mean, yeah, I kos occasionally. AND I know that server owners cant ACTUALLY enforce non kos rules unless they kick players, which can cause them to lose their servers. But when I am looking for some PVP action, I don't do it in a server that someone paid for where they are asking players not to. There are PLENTY of PVP/PVE servers out there, I don't NEED to go into one that is owned by another player that doesn't like that style of gameplay to do it. The way I look at it is, they PAID to rent that server, and I am willing to respect the rules they put in for it. Imagine you live in a society where there are no laws. And someone invited you into their home. Since there are no laws, you can do whatever you want. Even kill him. But would you actually do it? A bit dramatic of an example, I know, but its all I could come up with. Why do people feel the need to kill other players in a server paid for by another player that doesn't like that style of gameplay? I've said it before: I support any and all gameplay styles, and anyone that wants to play them, so long as they don't tell ME how I should play. I don't understand the mentality of people that join PVE only servers looking for a fight. What are you trying to prove? Why do you feel the need to FORCE your gameplay style on someone else? Of course, if you play in a PVP server, and get killed, you also have no room to bitch about it, because if you want non PVP, you shouldn't join a server that allows it and then complain when It happens. Why cant we all just.....get along?

DayZ Needs A Theme Song I Can Run To

Frankly, I don't want to see any kind of LAUNCHED grenade in dayz. It would detract from the overall feel of the game: gritty, desperate, run down. Having them in would, IMO, make it feel less logical. Yep. got a bunch of zombies over there. ill just use one of the 10 forty mikes I found under some dead soldier's bunk and *POOK! BOOM! Makes things feel to casual. Grenades, IMO should be limited to improvised devices, OR very rare milspec fragmentation devices. And I mean VERY rare. Lastly, I think many of you may not realize just how much random chance is involved when it comes to the effectiveness of grenades. Your typical M67 frag nade only has an effective kill radius of about 5 meters. That's not very far. Outside of that, a victim may very well find himself relatively unharmed, other than blasted out ears. They are not a reliable KILL device in open areas. Inside buildings, however, is another matter entirely. But yeah, I REEEEEAAAAAALLLY hope I NEVER see a yellow horse pill in game (40mm HEDP). I just think they don't belong. My opinion. Im entitled to it. As to the sks, that may have been their intent. Or maybe they just thought it looked cool. Who knows?

I dont understand why there is no AUTO RUN KEY!!!
crazykage replied to Bohannan (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
Just to give you guys a better picture of the "ideal" (imo) situation involving auto run. When I use the quarter trick, I am still at the keyboard. Left hand on "WASD", right on the mouse. I wedge in a quarter, and im off. Right. While on the move, I occasionally press ALT to take a look around, zoom in on a suspicious bush, see that zombie, check the horizon for known landmarks by which I navigate, look behind me, et. And I only need to press one key to do all that, meanwhile I'm still running. How is this "immersion breaking" or not realistic. IRL, I don't need to perform complex finger gymnastics to be able to run and do other things at the same time. I just RUN! I don't have to THINK about it. Its all muscle memory. Yeah, I have to constantly and consciously CHOOSE to keep running or to stop, but I don't think about it if I do. I just DO IT. And while the same could be said for holding the w key, well......its a game. Im here to have fun, and I don't enjoy CONSTANTLY holding w to run, and there is a LOT of running in dayz. Further, you know what's awesome? Right next to where I sit while playing is my K-cup brewer. The kind that uses k-cups OR coffee grounds. When im traversing a long distance, sometimes ill quarter it up, grab my water bottle, dump it into the brewer, stick a cup in and brew. Then when its done 30 seconds later, I double tap ALT, and take a sip from my piping hot coffee while I take a look around me while I run. All the while im thinking to myself: "What town/location am I going to next? I guess I'll go there. How should I approach it tho? *sip I guess I could try coming in through that one tree line and follow up by strafing the barn.... WHAT THE??? oh. just a zombie rabbit. almost spilled my coffee. *sip I really like how the sky box looks. especially at nighttime. I wonder if other players have noticed that the starts on the skybox form ACTUAL constellations like orion, Cassiopeia, or the dippers.*sip. what town is that? must be one of the sobors...yep theres the water tower.....*sip this coffee needs more sugar." All while still running. Im still here. just taking a moment to relax the fingers (lets face it, after a few hours, they get a little stiff. No, im not in excruciating pain, but its nice to be able to take your hands off the keyboard and pop your knuckles, stretch the arms and back and neck, without having to stop running), take in the sights, plan and plot out my next step, and drink my coffee. And the moment something noteworthy happens the cup goes down, quarter comes out and im ready to go. Now, I realize that some people would abuse this system by using it as a chance to walk away, running along as they take a piss, make a phone call, or whatever people do when they aren't playing dayz. So what? they don't hurt anyone by doing it. Its stupid, and will probably get them killed at some point, but that's not YOUR problem now is it? Thus far I have not seen within this thread anything to indicate or explain why there SHOULDNT be an autorun key, that was expressed in clear, intelligent language, and didn't sound insulting. To be fair, people on both sides of the argument have been slinging shit at each other. So tell me, detractors? WHY SHOULDNT there be an auto run function. Give me an arguable, defensible reason. -
What's the most bizarre thing you've seen in game so far?
crazykage replied to Johnny Depth's topic in General Discussion
Encountering a Player that is just standing there, no clothes, and bleeding. Attempts to communicate yield no response. The head continues to look around. Attempts to kill these strange folk only result in wasted ammunition/axe swings. Every hit impacts, and starts a new blood spurt, but they don't go down. 50 axe swings later and the character model has so many blood spurts that they don't fit on his body any more and they just spawn into thin air around him. Eventually, there were so many that I was essentially taking a blood shower. Seen it at least 4 different times. -
I dont understand why there is no AUTO RUN KEY!!!
crazykage replied to Bohannan (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
Just throwing in my 2 cents here: I think this game SHOULD have an auto run feature. Currently I use the quarter trick. But I don't just "turn on run" and walk away. Im still RIGHT THERE, hand on the keyboard, staring at the screen as I hold down ALT to look around me while I run. I do this because I get tired of holding down W non stop. No other reason. It just gets old. Now, that was my 2 cents. And those two pennies are WORTH something. They happen to be wheat pennies, and therefore have collector value... -
Well, sadly no TMZ guys were around, but I did end up getting contacted by a member of a group calling themselves the "UN Remnants" while I was there. They brought me to their own server, proceeded to help me out in game, and soon I was back up and running, short a small amount of food and an empty canteen which I traded to the very generous gentlemen for a new morphine stick and 2 full canteens. Very professional and helpful. These guys can be trusted....
-
Im in the TMZ teamspeak channel now to see if I can get some assistance at some point. Will be the first time I have used their services. Hopefully they will be able to help me.

I JUST had this happen to me. And wouldn't you know it? My pants, both morphine sticks, and both bandage rolls (all inside the pants) got ruined in the fall. BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!!!! lol

this would be awesome. not just monthly events, but a separate forum. I plan on doing multiple iterations of my cobra commander event...but first I need to find a way to make this game play with more stability. Just got out of a server that had BRUTAL stutter. -

crazykage replied to crazykage's topic in General Discussion
it occurs to me that this is better suited to "Orlok's random thread". I apologize for creating a new topic about something totally unrelated to dayz in my haste to share with the community something I found funny.... -
can confirm: also with moisin and sks 7.62 Really annoying when I have a full stack of 10 sks rounds, and a BOX of sks rounds. If I "dump" out the box, the 10 stack turns into a 5 and the box turns into a stack of 0.

this, folks, is some real shit. man knows what hes talking about.
