tried to log in, failed to connect to several servers. when I finally found one, I logged in buck naked and all my items gone, mere ghosts of items on my toolbar. I figured id say fuck it and run to berez, which is nearby, and re gear. After all im healthy and hydrated. I accepted the loss of my items and moved on. JUST as I got to the outskirts of berez, the server restarted. I logged back in, rolled back to my starting point from before, again with no items, and now I have broken legs. Healthy, hydrated, no items, no legs, at least an hour away from the nearest point where I can suicide. FML.

side note: I know I didn't get robbed on my last log out. I quit playing last night immediately after a server restart..

What sort of player are you on DayZ? *QUIZ*
crazykage replied to Flagella's topic in General Discussion
I checked it out, but didn't complete the quiz. Some of the answers are too cut and dry; "you see another player, do you kill him? or do you not kill him". EVERYTHING I do in this game is ENTIRELY circumstantial. Just today I killed a bambi running in my direction. She had a kiddie backpack and a wood splitter. I DROPPED her like a sack of bricks without warning or hesitation. Not even a minute later, I see a black guy down the street on the other side with a can of beans in his hand. I stopped and ADSed on him, and he stopped DEAD in his tracks, then ran away out of sight. I made no attempt to pursue him. Just let him go. 5 minutes and further down the road later, a fresh spawn (Tshirt and pants, no items) is running in my direction. I stopped in the middle of the road, and dropped a soda and an orange for him. He ran RIGHT at me, and past me, ignoring my offer. Having angered me by spurning my kindness I allowed the guy to run away until he was 300 meters out, before I gave him a different gift, force fed through the back of his neck(no really. I was actually irritated with the player: here I am, a fully geared week old character, giving a bambi food, and trying to be a nice guy, and he just runs RIGHT past, doesn't stop to talk, interact, NOTHING.). This kind of quiz cant offer me enough options that would enable me to answer the questions honestly. -
I've got it. The reason bandits wear military gear!

aahhh, let the poor little spoiled rotten, grabbastic, unprofessional, chode-tastic twat nuggets with shit for brains have their fun. Its probably the only place they are getting it. And one day a few brain cells will mitose out of the shit in their brain housing groups, and grow into an actual, functioning thinker. And then they will realize that they are nothing more than spoiled rotten, grabbastic, unprofessional, chode-tastic twat nuggets with brains that grew from shit. And that will be the day that they look back on their worthless lives in shame, and realize that they are worthless wastes of space on this earth. And THAT will be the day that their testicles descend, and they take the first steps towards becoming a man. And that's how men go through puberty. Ladies and gentlemen, this public health announcement is brought to you by: The United States Marine Corps. Semper Fidelis. god bless chesty puller.... -

well, its said that carlos hathcock, founder of the marine corps scout sniper program, used to wear a white feather in his cap, as a challenge to the Vietcong snipers; "here, let me make it easier for you" sort of mentality. But I aint no carlos hathcock. And I prefer to remain hidden and stealthy. -

It just occured to me: We are all playing HUNGER GAMES!
crazykage posted a topic in General Discussion
Consider: Huge arena filled with dangerous traps (zombies, ladders, wall clipping, desynch deaths, etc). Scattered about are weapons and food. Contestants all enter the arena from pre determined points. They enter unarmed, hungry, and thirsty. Brutality is evident everywhere. Some players refuse to kill others unless in self defense (some not even then), and team up with others who feel the same way. Most players will kill other players willingly, and some form alliances to better there chances of success (the careers). We've even got a master of the game in the form of Dean hall, directing his team of developers to change and alter the game and its rules as we play it, all while watching us do so.... -

I REALLY hope the devs see this, and it gets them thinking. Without some kind of modular system like this, and with backpack scarcity on the horizon, it will be extremely difficult for a player to carry all the survival tools available in game. We have no use for them now, but eventually cooking pots, matches, wood, stones, tools (and whatever else is added in later) will have functionality. A system like this forces the player to search long and hard to find all the necessary components, but if successful, the hard work is rewarded with significant amounts of freed up inventory space. Just think: if you had a place to attach your canteen (two slots), a knife (two slots), a pistol holster (4 slots), a mag pouch (4 slots, but only for magazines), a med kit (4 slots), and a butpack (4 slots, universal storage), all that would free up a total of 20 inventory slots. The trade off is that, with the exception of the universal storage of the butpack, only SPECIFIC items can be attached, and to do so requires the belt and the gator clips. -

Server hopping has gotten worse. (actuall analysis, not a whine thread)
crazykage posted a topic in General Discussion
Ok, so quick disclaimer: this is alpha. Yup. I know that. Not here to whine, just to point out an observation. Since the recent implementation of the logout timer (remaining in the world for 30 seconds) and the server switch timer (increased log in delay for switching servers), I have noticed a trend. While these mechanics are necessary (and may need tweaking, but that's not the issue), and recently benefited me personally (combat logger did his thing, and I killed him), I think that the effect they have had on server hoppers specifically has made the situation worse, rather than better. First, what do I mean by hopper? I don't mean the guy that ran 50km, found an empty town, hopped, looted, and continued playing. When I say hopper, I mean the guys that log in, find a good loot zone (generally millspec loot), loot it, either log out on the spot or in a bush nearby, join a new server, loot it, rinse and repeat. Before the implementation of the timer mechanics, this was a very fast and easy way to "gear up". Now, that hopper that used to loot the facility at bashnya (hill north of NWAF with a single barracks/prison building. secluded spot rarely frequented by regular players, but commonly looted by hoppers) can no longer do so with any efficiency. It takes too long to switch servers constantly, just to loot a single building. Instead, hoppers have, I think, switched gears. Now, instead of sticking with a single building, or small loot zone like a military base, they have spread themselves out to towns. ESPECIALLY those that have any building that spawns ammo, guns, or gun attachments (berez, elektro, cherno, zeleno, etc.). If a town or other "place" has even ONE piano house, school, office, or barracks building, you can safely assume that it is being targeted by hoppers. NOW, instead of being focused on a single building, they find it much more efficient to hop a town. This way, they gather a lot more material for their effort, and the timers become less of a hassle. I have personally observed, since the implementation of these mechanics, near empty servers (less than 4 players) having a restart, then rejoin them only to find the next town down the road emptied out less than a few minutes later, every door open, and the one other player in the server with me is gone. I have observed low pop servers (I often play on these, for reasons I wont get into, suffice it to say it has to do with game performance issues on hi pop) player lists for long periods, noticing that a lot of players join, (and where before, when hopping, they would disappear from the list within a minute or less), and then leave generally within 10 minutes or so. Just enough time to search the key areas of large towns and cites, especially if you KNOW what to look for and where to look. This is not something I am only just noticing, but rather something I have been seeing since the implementation of the timer mechanics. It is only NOW affecting me because of the loss of a 2 week old, heavily geared, salty bastard of a character. Now that I am once again a low tier gear character, I am find it extremely difficult to equip myself with even the most basic equipment. I REPEATEDLY find myself looting a town on an empty server, to have ONE player join, and happen to be in the same town, who usually kills me... The implementation of these timers, has, I think, forced hoppers to essentially spread out, and claim wider territory. The end result being that even LOW pop servers are looted out within only 15 to 20 minutes after a restart. This IS an alpha game, I know, but this CANNOT continue. Even without the recent performance issues, this is resulting in a very poorly balanced experience. How am I to test anything out, when I cant even find it? I do not suggest removal of the timer mechanics (they are a must) but rather urge the developers to implement loot respawn soon. On a more positive note, I like the direction the game is going thus far. Issues like this are to be expected, and are by no means a deal breaker for me. Also, I have noticed a rather stealthy addition to the ambient static objects in the game, making certain areas more fleshed out. Such as the addition of massive hay piles near some of the farm buildings (elongated ones with the animal stalls inside), or the industrial park in Berezino (the area where the schoolhouse building is found) having walls and fences added in, in addition to more lumber piles (I think). These areas look and feel less naked now. Good work with that, and keep it up!- 86 replies

You jumped the gun a bit, didn't you ;) ? I DID say to come back when I was finished editing the final product. This picture only shows the LBV, to which EVERYTHING else I mentioned above would be attached. What I am suggesting is not in the game AT ALL. -
Do a lot of people not know about the anti combat logger mechanic, or WHAT?
crazykage posted a topic in General Discussion
So yeah, while playing today, I encountered several people, and every single one of them (except the first) sat down when they realized I was nearby. The first player I encountered was at the jail cell barracks in the Chapaevsk apartment complex (the one closest to balota airfield). he was inside the jail cell. As I opened the outer doors, I saw the open jail cell door, and imeadiately pulled my magnum. I walked inside, pie-ing my corners like a good marine should, and I saw him proned inside the cell. He was reaching for his gun (mistake. had he remained defenseless, I would have just turned around and left. As it was, I did what I did because I didn't want him to shoot me in the back), but I killed him by placing, ever so gently, 6 .357 bullets inside his skull. As I turned around, a SECOND player blitzed right past the jail door. Since my magnum was empty, and my mosin is not the best close quarters weapon, I switched to my axe to give chase. Just around the corner, right next to the stairs, there he was, in the process of sitting down. I walked around to his front, spoke to him, tried to provoke a response. If he was just sitting down to indicate that he had no hostile intent, I would have let him go unmolested. But he gave no response. Just sat there, unmoving. So I poked his face with my fire axe to see if THAT would get him to move. It did. He laid down, and kindly allowed me to peruse his inventory, taking what I wanted. After hiding both bodies, I left. Just down the road, I found another player running down the road towards me. As I was not on the road myself (I run off to the side, in the trees), I pulled my rifle, and stepped out onto it, rifle UP, but not ADSed. I made no move to point at him or otherwise appear hostile. Just stood there, in plain view, slightly off to the side of the road so as to not bar his path or imply that this was my intent. I was HOPING he either turn and go somewhere else, or approach slowly and not pull out a weapon so that we might proceed with interaction. INSTEAD, he popped a squat right there on the pavement. So I approached, thinking "Maybe he is simply trying to communicate that he has no hostile intent.". But like the second guy, this third guy failed to show in any way that there was still somebody home. So, I decided this was a good opportunity to check and see if the blade on my fire axe was still sharp. It was. An hour or so later, I was in Vybor (stopped off at the green mountain facility first, it was totally ransacked), and saw a guy inside a building. I approached the building, and from outside, called out to him. I received zero response, so I pulled up my magnum, and proceeded to clear the building in the manner I was taught during my MOUT training in the Corps. I found him sitting in the corner, facing the wall like a disobedient child whose parents had told him to sit in the corner and think about what he had done. I tried to speak to him, but to no avail. So I decided to see if my magnum was still functioning. It was. Next stop was the NWAF, and a rather stupid mistake on my part was thinking I might try running across the open field. I had failed to see the guy down the strip to my right at first, but I did notice him after I was already standing in the open. Good news was that I had used enough foresight to draw out my Mosin beforehand. When I DID see him, I immediately crouched, turned, and ADSed (this is NWAF. If I see you, Im not gonna fuck about with friendliness. If I think I can take you down with little risk to myself, its going to happen). I snapped off a shot right at his head. He seemed to go down, but a moment later I realized that the lucky bastard had ducked my shot!!! I realigned to take another shot but I stopped. "Is he??? NO WAY!" Yep. He had sat down. Right there, in the middle of the tarmac, he had just parked his ass squarely in the open. He was only about 100 meters away. I KNOW he saw me, rather than just happening to decide that this was a good place to log out for the night. I decided that this was an excellent opportunity to do some practice with my mosin, so I ran a little farther away, crouched, and gave his skull a present which was delivered at muzzle velocity. Between all 5 of these players, I obtained enough ammunition and equipment that exploring the rest of NWAF was a moot point. I left the airfield and began my return to the southerly areas before logging out. Every single one of these players was armed with a rifle at minimum (the first guy I killed preemptively had a pistol). All of them had ammunition. All of them could have easily put up a fight if they had wanted to. And all of them, excepting number one, sat down the moment they saw me or I revealed myself. Am I that terrifying? Or do a LOT of people STILL not know that when you log out, you stick around for 30 seconds? I mean, I encountered FOUR combat loggers, IN A ROW! Also, why are people so cowardly? TL/DR: I found 4 combat loggers in a row today. All of them could have put up a fight and stood a chance. All of them died for their shameful cowardice. -

Within 6 months this game will already be better than the mod, AND IT STILL WONT EVEN BE IN BETA! God I love this game. I CANT WAIT to uber skill shot someone with a bow, then slowly walk up to their corpse and go "shhhhh"....... and I thought I loved to go hunting in this game before..... -
Nah. The cure is to kill them before they kill you.

crazykage replied to crazykage's topic in General Discussion
Wrong. In hunger games, the tributes are thrown into the arena with no weapons. They can make a run for the cornucopia and try to get one, but they risk becoming a casualty in the ensuing melee. In battle royale, the children are all handed a duffel bag at the start, some of which contained weapons. Others had binoculars or something else potentially useful. One even had a crossbow. -

AHEM. Firstly, I apologize, but I have not once heard anyone make the same connection. Secondly, twilight is utter garbage. Hunger games, while still a novel trilogy written specifically for the teen audience, is actually a very good story, complete with a rich history, complex present, believable characters that develop in interesting ways, a complex plot with good twists, and a moral that is relevant to the time in which it was written. Thirdly, twilight is utter garbage. -

crazykage replied to crazykage's topic in General Discussion
Naw. Let em stay oblivious until they eventually correlate the data in their brain housing groups that shows a connection between a "character reset" and logging out while a player is nearby. Frankly, im enjoying all the free stuff. I maxed out my ammunition for my mosin, 357, and FNx, with the first two guys. Now I just drink all their sodas and eat any fruit they might have. I KoS under very specific circumstances ONLY, and most of these people would not have been killed by me if they had stuck around. But no. Instead, they choose to show ZERO respect for the game, their fellow players, and themselves. So I show ZERO sympathy and kill them all. It would be different if I saw another player log out, and I knew he was unaware of me. I mean, yeah, you could argue that it was his mistake for logging out while being oblivious or being followed. But as far as I am concerned, THAT player did not disrespect me or the game. He played, for all I know, played honestly, and was done for the time being. I can respect that, and not punish him just because he had more important things to do. But I haven't seen this yet. Just a bunch of cowards. -

The bodies had valuable loot items I couldn't carry, didn't want, or didn't need. I take what I DO want or need, then dispose of the body so that nobody else can come along, find that guys rifle that I didn't take because I already had one, and shoot me in the back with it later on. Edit: I also do something similar to any M4's I come across. I take the butstock and iron sights off, and dispose of them in some bush somewhere a few hundred meters away. You could still use it, but not with any efficiency.
