It'll penetrate your skull but wont leave an exit wound, it'll bounce around in your head.

Well, the Ruger and the Pistol is .22 Caliber. It's not the most powerful weapon, it's also very quiet. Seeing as in DayZ the guns go for a more realistic approach, with weapon damage, range etc etc. a .22 in real life wont even go thru your head. It won't leave an exit wound. Anyway just shoot the zombies in the head, it'll one shot them. Might not do much damage with them to the body tho. Since you know, it's a .22 Caliber

I did read it first, but since I didn't see any "Hosted by" I was unsure of what to do

Since I'm not sure where to report this (Server doesn't have any "Fragnet.net or gameservers.com" in it. I hope maybe I can get some guidance here, or maybe OP can add this server to the list Name: (Public/3PP:ON) - 113953 DayZ (Public/Veteran) - [DAOS] ONLY IP: 195.122.134.186:2302 Link to Server on Gametracker: http://www.gametracker.com/server_info/195.122.134.186:2302/ Anyone that can guide me to where I report this? I can't figure out who is hosting the server if its gameservers or fragnet etc.

DayZ Sound Design Test - Part 3 Final Added
Markiee replied to fortran's topic in General Discussion
Nicely done but I'd just like to add something, if you are shooting a gun, the birds in the area would have flown away, so there wouldn't be any noise coming from them :) Otherwise great work -
What I would like to see, besides Direct Communication is a "Yell" option. Direct Communication right now is about as loud as a normal conversation. Which is fine by me, it should be as is. But there should also be an option to "yell" As in the radius in which you hear the person is larger. To simulate you yelling, might even attract zombies if nearby. Direct Communication = Normal Conversation Loudness and Radius (as is now) Yell = Larger Radius and may attrack zombies too

I'm not complaining about TrackIR. Seriously, it as a example as to how stupid this argument with "REMOVE 3RD PERSON NOW PLZ" is. Removing support for TrackIR would be just as stupid as removing 3rd Person View. I got nothing against TrackIR, or people using it or whatever. It was just an example as to how some people argue over how bad 3rd person is, and how dumb it would be to argue for the removal of TrackIR. So once again, nothing against it, was just an example :)

I was pointing something out, in the same way as you did. I have no problem with TrackIR I won't get it, don't care if others use it. But I was making a argument against it the same way you do towards TPV.
-
Except you have to buy a TrackIR in order to use it. Third Person is already in the game, so everyone has the same advantages of Thrid Person, they don't with TrackIR. Your counter-arugment is not much better...

Rocket said : Cannibalism will be eventually part of the game

That's dark. I imagine food will be even more rare in the future, hopefully I wont have to eat human meat to survive. Hopefully -
when did being friendly become bieng a sucker
Markiee replied to gannon46's topic in General Discussion
Dude, that's some dark, evil stuff. Would actually laugh at dying as a sacrifice rather than shot to death. You play as like the pshyco's of dayz, kinda like the werid pshycos in Dead Rising that sacrfice people for something. Not calling you a pshyco or bad person or anything. But pretty fun story non-the-less, brings some spice to the world of Dayz I would say -
If we are going to remove Third Person view. Lets also make sure people cannot use Track IR, because that gives an unfair advantage towards those who doesn't use it, and would have to hold down ALT or double click it in able to use it. Cause that would make total sense, right? They can look around in a combat situation without being hindered by it, but someone without TrackIR wouldn't be able to do it as smoothly at all
-
However, in real life. I would be able to peek over the edge to look directly down from the rooftop, in DayZ/Arma you can't do that. Only with 3rd person is that possible

This happened to me, I got stuck on the Please Wait screen. I didn't click exit but I had to wait about a minute to get into the game. Once I got into the game my character broke his legs, even tho I was on flat ground away from everything. Luckily I had morphine so it wasn't a big deal, but be ware that, even if you stick thru the please wait screen (which doesn't always work it seems) You might be joining in with broken legs

That is true. Seems like a neat idea however. Could be interesting to see how it plays out. I mean the spraypaint has to be used for something right? I don't think we'll be able to paint walls with it :P
-
This is true, As long as it is not too customizable like making your own emblem. Simple colors would do. Maybe even spray your balistic helmet a certain color (if you use the helmet of course) Seeing as SprayPaint is going to be added (I think it is) It's a cool idea. Maybe limit it too bright green and colors that might hinder your ability to blend in with the envoirment so you would only use it when moving in a town for easy identification of your friends, but have to remeber to take it off once you are out and back into the woods?
-
Play it like someone is always pointing a gun at you. Always try to avoid crossing open fields. If you are looting, don't let your guard down too much, always look around you. If you have to fire your weapon, always expect that someone will come and investigate, change positions quickly. And expect that you might run into someone flanking you. If you see someone say, a guy that you know killed your friend etc. Someone you know is a bandit. Do not shoot unless you know you can hit him. If you shoot and you are not sure if you can hit him or not, you might just give away your possition and get shot in the process.

I feel this is part of the game, not really knowing. So you gotta communicate with your friends like "Is that you coming up on the right of me?" or "Are you going into the Red Building?" Etc etc. Communication is key, but the whole not knowing is something I like, means you gotta make sure you work together with the people you play, let them know where you are where you are going etc etc.

Something like that could work, but I think you should be able to switch shoulders, not in game but in menu only. So you would have to log out to switch shoulders. So that it can't be abused. Or something similiar to how it is now, but putting the camera a bit further down and close to character. At least when your weapon is raised crouched and prone. I think if you lower your weapon/running while standing obviously. It should be as is, so you can admire your character or when running. But then again, Hardcore mode, isn't it basically Veteran except FPS only? So there will be something for everyone.

I like switching between thrid and first person. When I'm running I usually use Third Person, it's also cool to get to see your character once you've gotten some good looking gear. I'd like to be able to see my character But most of the time when I am in a town/village or in combat or clearing a house I am in First Person. I feel it's more responsive and easier to spot people in first person than it is in Thrid. For me, I use thrid person just because it looks cool to see your character when running and such. And having a peak at your new found gear as well. A way to combat you looking above walls and around corners could be to put the camera a bit closer to your character when in Third Person. It is still not very effective to peek corners and above walls in Third Person in Standalone anyway, but putting the camera closer to the character and a bit lower to the ground, would remove this ability almost completly. Maybe also if you have your gun raised you go back to first person. If the camera was a bit closer and lower, a lot of the peek around and over things would be gone. Still would be there to some degree but would be nearly gone. Maybe when you go prone the camera is really close and low, and crouch somewhere between Standing up and Prone? Also there will be a hardcore mode that only uses First Person, so removing it from Veteran... Don't see the point.

How to open a can of food without any tools
Markiee replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
You can open cans with a Splitting Axe / Fire Axe but you lose some of the contents. You can also use a bayonett or a screwdriver to open the cans. So there are already other options besides a can opener to get those cans open -
Me and my brother started playing DayZ about 2 days ago. So we have always been teaming up and trying to survive. Took a while for us to understand how zombies work and all that. But eventually we figured it out and its way easier to search towns for food now. Anyway, yesterday we were checking a Hunting Pass (Don't know exactly what they are called) in the forest, so decided to check it out. Saw another guy run in open in the field. Wrote over Direct Communication "Friendly?!" And got the reply yes. We had the advantage in the situation, we had the cover of the woods. He was in the open. I had a DMR and my brother had an AK-47 Kobra something (had a red dot on it) that we found in a Military Camp the night before. My brother also had a gillie suit that we found in a castle. Turns out this guy we met needed blood. And we had 5 blood packs after raiding the hospital (Hey don't judge me! We needed the blood to survive) Anyway, I offered to give him a blood pack, so my brother took position up in the woods to cover me in case it went wrong. I walk out of the woods and we meet up. I give him his blood, we chat for a minute "What are you doing around here?" to which my reply was "Looking for some tires to fix our bike" Then I started walking (not running) back into the woods, slowly. He drew aim on me when I was halfway up in the woods. So the situation got tense, my brother had aim on him the whole time. But he never shot at me. He ran away and that's the last I saw of him. To me and my brother this was the most exciting and tense experience we ever had in the game. Sure the zombies are scary at times. But it's the other players that scare you. Can you trust them? Do you shoot when you have an advantage or do you meet up and risk being killed? It is really tense every time you see another player. Most of the time we avoid them. I have actually killed 2 other players on sight. Not in a row. But when we were checking out a military base and Elektro. I feel bad over it, but in the situation you are so scared you rather just shoot them than they shooting you. Especially if you have the advantage of being behind them and not being seen by them. But most of the time we ask "Friendly?" And the first couple minutes are tense, then you start to trust each other, not much but a little. And you walk your own paths. TL;DR: Me and my brother saw a guy running open in the field, my brother covered me from the woods while I gave him a blood pack. It was tense, he drew aim on me. but didn't shoot. Made it super tense.
