Good morning/afternoon/evening everyone! I recently posted a very short survey to gather peoples feelings on the entire "can incident" and how people feel the community developers are doing. I let the survey run for 24 hours- thank you everyone who contributed! Below you will see the results! 793 respondents 363 from reddit 290 from dayzmod 105 from opendayz 35 from other (4chan, outside referrals) Overall, how did you feel about the naming convention of new feed items in DayZ? I liked them. 15.26% total: 121 Didn't bother me at all. 23.58% total: 187 Okay, but could have named some of them better. 19.04% total: 151 I disliked them. 23.33% total: 185 I absolutely hated them. 18.79% total: 149 Did you see any gameplay issues being brought on by these names? (multiple choice) I thought the names were unprofessional and/or looked bad for DayZs reputation. 42.12% total: 334 They broke immersion for me. 32.66% total: 259 They didn't break immersion for me, but I see how it could bother others. 23.08% total: 183 I wanted items named after me. 1.13% total: 9 I see nothing wrong with the item names. 31.65% total: 251 Other 9.21% total: 73 Other comments were evenly mixed good and bad.Do you think the developers have "lost touch" with the community? Yes, they seem to almost ignore the entire community. 3.66% total: 29 Yes, they are out of touch with large parts of the community. 27.11% total: 215 Yes, they lost touch with a minority. 17.15% total: 136 No, they are doing just the same. 35.44% total: 281 No they are doing better. 16.65% total: 132 What have I personally learned? Well- it seems that both good and bad comments are pretty equally distributed across ALL the communities. It would appear that Reddit is not just "hating", nor are the official forums full of "fanboys". In fact a slightly higher percentage of official forum participants disliked the cans in game- HOWEVER- a slightly higher percentage of official forum participants were happy with the developers ability to communicate. Surprisingly, I also learned that the 4chan participants tended to put far more insightful information in their comments- with half of their comments maxing out the character limits. It would seem that overall- people were rather unhappy with the addition of the named cans in game; whether it was distasteful or it genuinely affected their gameplay. It would also appear that the community overall is split almost down the middle as far as satisfaction with the Developers. I will let you all take this information in- and of course it should only be taken at face value. But nearly 800 participants I believe gives a decent representation of everyone's minds. Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns! Original survey post here: http://dayzmod.com/f...ke-this-survey/ EDIT: I have opened the survey up again for long term collection! Go ahead and get your voice in! I will post long term results Saturday night! https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/MHB79BM

My sampling 100% fits the objective and subject of my survey. What do you think my survey is a survey of? The issue at hand was the "major" communitys tearing eachother apart because they all assumed the others wanted something specific, my survey proved that was not the case. My survey is completely indicative of that. There is no bias- the survey is open to everyone in the target demographic.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margin_of_error Read it up. Essentially says the larger the sample, the lower the margin of error. This was a TRUE randon polling of viable particupants (active people on the forums) and a snall SELECTION of people has a greatly increased chance of bias- either accidental or intentional. My 800 participants would put me at an *average 3.5% margin of error. whereas your proposed 150 would be closer to 7 or 8%. Scientific polls do not go through a lot of trouble figuring out margin of error. It is a simole mathmatical equasion based on level of confidence, and sample size. Looking at the results I can ascertain a 95% confidence level (whick literally almost all surveys and polls are) leaving me at roughly a 3.5% margin of error. As we speak now none of the stats are even a whole percent different- over 200 participants later... well within the 3% i roughly estimated at the start. Now since I had to prove myself to you, prove yourself to everyone else by showing what led you to "assure" me that poll margin or error calculation is a lengthy process, and provide source that proves my sampling is bad.

Liquid, I think he meant the BI doesnt give him 100% freedom with everything. DayZ is a BI copyright, and a BI product now. Although Dean may be the "man in charge", he is still only the lead developer (And a bit of a PR faceman). He still answers to someone else who ultimately gives him direction. The game is being developed on BI money now, so naturally they will keep a strong hold on the development process. We as players and potential customers will benefit from real QA, whereas that wouldnt be practical otherwise. Essentially it is a symbiotic relationship where they (DayZ and BI) benefit off eachother- However I cant believe BI needs DayZ more than the converse.

Some people are never happy. It happens, I dont take offense, some people are naturally un trusting.
-
I have a pdf that I could share, but theres no way for me to post it here... let me see if I can upload it somewhere.
-
One of the issues is the "man with the plan" would reach out to all the community sites. Reddit, dayzmod, twitter, facebook, even 4chan. The current devs don't even try to do that. Dean arguably posts on reddit more than here.
-
This man... genius. There is a missing PR link somewhere in the system, and as I said- the nod to the people was a great idea, just not executed well according to the majority. There was a step missed in the development process where a proposed idea was never proposed.
-
Also, having opened the poll back up, I have had nearly 200 more respondents so far, (25% more) and not ONE of the results have tipped either way even a full % point yet. We will see what it looks like at the end, but this honestly looks like the real results.

I have the survey set to ignore duplicate IPs and MACs. There are no accounts involved. The only way to submit multiple times is to either go to a totally different house or go through a proxy, which the survey has a public proxy list filter.

To be fair, those "randoms" are also players, and are apparently the majority. The poll was open to everyone, the only reason that the dayzmod.com "community" had less say was because either less people are active on the dayzmod forums than reddit, or less dayzmod forums people care enough to have their voice heard. I actually technically posted the poll on dayzmod.com a few minutes before reddit. You claim dayzmod.com forums are ther "real" community, when it would appear that the community is either less active, or cares less. A "random selection" poll has always been proven statistically to have a larger margin of error both due to the fact of a significantly smaller sample of people, and a larger percentage of people who don't really take the survey seriously.

If people dont know how to answer a question, I wouldnt say that is the surveys fault per-se. I understand how some may see a bias, But it is a false perception. Would you like to to have two options of "I liked it" and "I really fucking liked it"? Ultimately they are the same literal answer just one is more passionate. There are no more facts being conveyed. However, if someone disliked it, I wanted to know WHY they disliked it, not just "I hate that crap". At any rate, I left an "other" option and you can see quite a few people used it- sadly many of them MISUSED it by not expressing anything other than slander. TL:DR No matter how you make a survey, some people are going to "go full retard".

I know the horse has been beaten. It is long past dead. Bloody. Just a lump of mush. But I am genuinely interested in your guys input. Im seeking an unbiased result of what everyone thinks about the recent "issue" PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not discuss the issue in this thread- it is ONLY for discussion about the survey itself. I posted this earlier but since it was locked due to mods worrying about it being a horrific circlejerk like all these other threads were. ONLY discus the actual survey itself. This survey was also posted to Opendayz, 4chan, and reddit. please spread the word and get as many participants as possible! Let your voice be heard! So far I have 500+ respondents. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/MHB79BM

An honest man! Lol, some people had big issues with it. Much of it stemming from the fact that it just doesnt fit in the game. I know that I, personally look at every item I pick up, and I could imagine quite a few others do to. Lots of people play th game to get as involved as possible, not just to pew pew zombies and people. To each their own... eh?
-
Attention! I opened the survey back up just to see what a "long term" poll will look like. go ahead and vote now if you like, I will post the results of the long term poll Saturday night! https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/MHB79BM

We all just don't like you! My first thread was posted in suggestions, it was lock and moved to general. Later in the day, i posted another thread in General that stayed as the very top post for a couple hours, Actually, that post is still on the first page. I tried to get the word out as much as possible, and as I said 290 people took the survey from the dayzmod forum link- so I think I at least had partial success. I'm sorry you didnt get to voice your word. Cest la vie, I suppose.

That is the problem with EVERY survey. This is why I say take it for face value. Typically, surveys allow for a 3% margin of error, to assuming 24 trolls only posted negative things- that will not skew the results any significant amount. Yes the second question is "subjective", but I wanted to see what peoples issues were (if any). You can still see that only 31.65% of people actually thought there was nothing wrong with the food. That 31.65% most likely isnt going to check any other boxes- meaning that leaves ~68.35% of people who are distributed among the REST of the answers based on %/(.3). Math is too much for me right now, but essentially* almost 70% of the people at least thought it wasn't perhaps the best of ideas.
-
There was food added to the game 2 days ago that the majority thought was named inappropriately. Essentially I believe the most thought the name didn't fit in dayZ. They were named after prominent community members and forum moderators- this was done with good intention, but perhaps is just the wrong way to give a nice nod to those who dedicate their time to dayzmod.

Check my post, I actually posted this survey on the forums here TWICE, both times inviting EVERYONE to participate. I also posted the survey on 4chan, reddit, and opendayz. If you didn't participate, it is on your own accord. This is in no way biased. The questions MAY be a little leading, but not really, all people had to do was answer truthfully- and I left an "other" comment box for comments that didnt fit in any of the answers. I read ALL of them, all of which were a mixed bad of yes/no (with a couple inappropriate "bronyf**/whinyB****" comments. As I said, all survey results should be taken for face value, but this is as unbiased as a survey can get. IF anything, it is biased towards "I like the food" due to the fact that everyone who didn't have anything negative got lumped into one number. Especially the second question was to see to what factor (if any) people did not like the food. The fact that almost half the people alone said they were unprofessional or looked bad says something. I am not siding with either group, and I am keeping my decision on the matter confidential as with everyone elses answers on the survey. But please dont turn this thread into another "circle jerk" because that is where this conversation is going. To everyone else- I greatly appreciate the thanks, and I thank everyone for participating- and SPECIAL thanks go out to moderator Inception. for his professionalism in clearing an issue up!
-
I posted a survey yesterday to try to squash some of the hate being flung around about the removal of the food from the latest update. Essentially it turns out that most people didn't like the food, it wasn't just a reddit thing- just reddit complains more loudly than the dayzmod forum people.

Results are in! http://dayzmod.com/f...results-are-in/ Stop on by and let er rip! You weren't supposed to call my bluff,,
-
Fine, then you aren't invited to the after party!* *After party may or may not actually exist
-
As a reminder, if you see anything that may seem off about the survey itself, let me know! Id really like to improve on my survey administration skills... That sounds pretty lame now that I think about it...
-
Tomorrow morning 7am est or at 1000 respondents, whichever comes first!

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/MHB79BM Here is a link to a survey I already posted on the forums here. I already have 500 respondents (aiming for 1000) And a little over half are from here, a little under half from reddit, and the rest from 4chan and opendayz. Please give HONEST input and be brutal. I want the community to see what the breakdown of like/dislike is and get a good idea of overall satisfaction! Make your voices heard in an unbiased manner!
