Epoch can cause huge performance issues depending on the scripts the server admin is running and the amount of objects in the database, also what are your specs/settings and do you or your friend have an SSD or HDD? SSD was the biggest performance gain overall I received plus depending on your hardware a mixture or high and low settings may actually increase your performance due to some higher settings offloading to your GPU instead of your CPU.

Depending on which mod you are playing and which server drastically affects performance. With how many custom additions, scripts, and the overall shitty handling of base building objects (not the fault of the mod makers, more the way createVehicle works) and server fps heavily factoring into client fps it will be extremely hit or miss server to server. Try around different servers and find a good one that gives you good client performance and stick with it if you can.

You need Arma 2 as well as Arma 2: OA.

I had almost zero desync playing yesterday, even got into a firefight involving 6 people in close vicinity and it was perfectly fine. -
Question regarding my Computer
FrostyKush replied to therandomredstone's topic in Technology/Programming
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.htmlIt is indeed very weak for a desktop, it's right down there with the mobile cards. -
Really bad performance (yes I've researched prior to posting)
FrostyKush replied to gooberz's topic in Troubleshooting
I would say an SSD is the biggest overall performance increase you can get especially for the 100$ they are down to for 250gigs, my suggestion would be to grab a samsung 850 evo, or the intel equivalent. -
DayZ won't launch at all...please help me...
FrostyKush replied to Greenbury's topic in Troubleshooting
Also had this issue a while back and deleting my dayz folder in my documents and allowing the game to create a new one fixed it for me. -
I believe it was the new active Battleye that made Windows XP stop working. As far as if it was originally in the requirements I don't actually recall. I don't know the specifics but I know from some of the hacker forums that there are some security holes in Windows XP that would have allowed for hacks to pass the active BE protection. I agree it sucks that you can't play anymore but with XP users being such a minority and it being a large security risk plus Battleye already having their work cut out for them having to do active protection on Vista, 7, and 8.1 I do understand the reasoning behind it.

http://dayzlauncher.com/is probably your best bet. Select a panthera server, it will ask you to download the required mods. Allow it to download them and then join the same server.

Disregard everything I said, I didn't realize this was for the standalone. I was thinking this was for the mod, I do not host a standalone server.

Also if you are running on a dedicated or VM you should have something like this for clean shutdowns to eliminate the possibility of the database not loading properly on restart (used to happen to me all the time with a forced close through a batch file).

<job id='3'> <day>1,2,3,4,5,6,7</day> <start>003045</start> <runtime>003045</runtime> <loop>-1</loop> <cmd>say -1 Only ask for an admin for things related to the server (Well known arma bugs do not count!!)</cmd> </job> This is what I use for it to repeat every 30 minutes and 45 seconds, works without issues. Try using this format and change the job id, timing, and obviously what you want it to say and see if that works. Edit: just realized I am running an older version of BEC and they do change the formatting for this every now and then, I'm running 1.601 for clarity.

Also how often do you want that message to run?

<loop>25</loop> should be a 1 or 0, trying changing that and see if it works

As was said many times so far you definitely need to change your thermal paste and give your cpu cooler a good thorough cleaning while its off. Most thermal paste is meant to be changed ~ every 6 months and any dust packed into your cooler will lead to temps like you are seeing which are wayyy to high by the way, you are probably doing serious damage to your cpu at 90-100 degrees. Doing the thermal paste itself is quite simple and there are many extremely detailed guides available, Arctic Silver is a very solid choice as far as thermal paste goes as well.

Will these buildings ever be enterable in future?
FrostyKush replied to AmazingAussie's topic in General Discussion
If not through official channels then with modding I'm sure we will see them opened up, on dayz mod all of the buildings were made enter able through dayzero's mod team. -
Follow my instructions here if you wanna play any of the other dayz mods http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/205145-tutorial-how-to-play-dayz-mod-with-163-of-steam-dayz-commander-and-dayz-launcher/

Turn off the post process effects option in game, should remove this plus give a small performance increase.

[Tutorial] How to play DayZ Mod with 1.63 of steam (DayZ Commander and Dayz Launcher)
FrostyKush posted a topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Updating to Arma version 125548 1. For people who have not added their copy of arma 2 OA to steam yet follow the instructions here http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?179732-Arma-2-Operation-Arrowhead-Update-1-63 2. Start Steam and right click Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead, go to properties then local files and then verify integrity of game cache. 3. Let this download the necessary files. Once it's complete start your game through steam and quit once you get to the main menu. 4. Some people may need to repeat this with Arma 2 as well. If you have issues after following the rest of this verify Arma 2's integrity as well. Using DayZ Launcher 1. Download DayZ Launcher here http://dayzlauncher.com 2. Click Servers at the top and choose a server to play on. 3. It will prompt you to download the mods that server is running, select ok. 4. Allow the mods to download then join the same server for which you downloaded the mods (or one running the same mods) Using DayZ Commander 1. After doing the Update to 125548 for Arma above just start DayZ Commander and use it as usual. Note: Many servers are having trouble updating because they waited til the last minute and many more have shutdown entirely due to the chaos for server owners over the last month. If you are having trouble finding a server you used to play on it is most likely the server itself if you can join other servers and play fine. Also anyone has permission and is encouraged to repost this anywhere they see people are struggling and asking for help. -
[Tutorial] How to play DayZ Mod with 1.63 of steam (DayZ Commander and Dayz Launcher)
FrostyKush replied to FrostyKush's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
No problem man, glad to help. 1.63 and the fall of DayZ Commander was a disaster for the mod, so many players weren't able to play anymore all of a sudden. Wish this was made a sticky so people didn't miss it. -
3-D models for optical sights with inner view (view-in-view)
FrostyKush replied to sunzh's topic in Suggestions
This was talked about by I believe Peter a while back, they said they are waiting on the new renderer and optimizations to see if this would be doable from a performance stand point. -
POLL: How happy are you with the buildings and map?
FrostyKush replied to ColonelBurton's topic in General Discussion
just a video I saw a long time ago that seemed relevant here, keep in mind this is compared using the arma 2 version of cherno ported to arma 3. There have been a ton of changes in the SA as you already know. With that being said I to remember them mentioning going through all the existing areas and touching them up as well as adding new models and variations of the buildings so they aren't so repetitive. Also with the new renderer I would imagine we will see a pretty big change in the way tree cover looks and the pure number of assets able to be used in an area. A lot of visual and map related changes are probably dependent on them seeing what type of real world performance gains they see and what they are able to gain from clientside optimizations. And of course all those awesome DX11 features like *fingers crossed* tessellation (seriously picture the current cities with tessellation http://eu.evga.com/articles/00561/images/tessellation.jpg) plus we should see a large increase of visual things like flora, denser forests, and they mentioned some time ago pending on how the renderer works out fog effects on the ground. Then there is always what modding will allow on the map editor side of things like making cities and villages more overgrown/abandoned, adding cities and various areas, as well as custom buildings like were made for the dayz mod giving even more variety. Of course a lot of this is dependent on how the renderer works out and client optimizations after the renderer is implemented so heres to hoping that works out well. All in all though after having a few thousand hours on A2 Cherno between dayz mod, arma 2 modding, and server development, and a few hundred hours on the standalone map I do like that the map in the standalone can still look unfamiliar to me in places because of the subtle changes in landscape and the higher resolution of the satellite map they used as well as the new areas. I am extremely excited to see what is done in the future and the new renderer in general and truly hope it works out well but ultimately only time will tell. P.S. sorry for the novel -
