    Weapon Sling

    Hi all, now straight to the point, it is obvious that in the future, more and more weapons/ attachments will be added to the game, i have seen an array of many proposed attachments the community would like to implement, however they are of the offensive kind(attachments that directly have and impact on the performance of the said weapon eg;grips), i have yet to see any posts about the possibility of weapon "slings" being added, some potential benefits of this would be: Being able to run at full speed with weapon still easily accessible since it is at the front side of the bodyA way of survivors being less threatening, as people will see the person has a weapon but is not actively holding it somewhat giving a message to the other player along the lines of "he could shoot me easily but hasn't" but still have the ability to raise their weapon if need be. Because lets face it, when attempting to interact with people currently, people assume just because you are pulling your weapon from your side you mean them harm(but usually it is only being pulled out because of uncertainty of the other players intentions,atleast for me), a sling would negate this mindset.A craftable item, could be made of clothes knotted together somehow (not sure if this would work, just a thought), of course their would be loot-able ones, a MP version for example, however a crafted one would add another layer of immersionStop potential robberies/murders, for example if you have a sling and are running in a certain direction, assume there are actual bandits,not kos'ers (unlikely i know) on your six, their first observation of you would be that you are harmless as you have no weapon in site, and then BAM, u turn around and attack them with surprise thanks to the weapon sling.It's Cool!   2. Title Says it all, judging from the latest gameplay footage (Gamescom) talk about your own personal opinion on where you think the development is headed (positive/negative). Talk about things were showcased in the latest build (weapons, attachments, medkits, weather, injury's). And lastly what you what you think should be prioritized above all else so it is in a working state for when the pre-alpha is released (weapons,geometry,animations,art,audio,AI(Zeds), FPS. Also i know there is a "Dayz Standalone Discussion" Thread, that is 50 somthing pages long but this post is more so focused on gamescom build, and what people think of it's current state. Personally, i think, since E3 (very mediocre) it's gone leaps and bounds ahead of its old build, as at that time the game looked really "clunky" somthing all arma 2 and dayz players are accustomed to (Picking weapons up, proning to running, standing up, weapon changing ect) it also looked like the fps had being optimized immensely since the last devblog, which imo is the most important aspect that should be concentrated on, as in dayz mod, fps can being a real pain, even for people with good rigs.     DayZ Standalone Discussion

    For the standalone, will there be a set amount of attachments a weapon can have, or will there be unlimited spots for which you can place attachments? For example will it be possible to fully kit an M4 with many attachments (Sight,Hanguard,Stock, Supressor,Grip/GL,Laser sight,bayonet ect, as i think if this is possible it will give the player something to accomplish, and make their own weapon unique, in a sense a "level" for the character, instead of having ACTUAL levels like other rpg games, as that would ruin the immersion. Obviously these attachments would have to be extremely difficult to find, possibly harder than the weapon itself.Post your opinions.

    hey, for the ramdrive section,if you want you could add when using ramdisk, it is not a necessity to use 4gb of ram, for example my ramdisk is 650mb, however that even is too much as dayZ-chenarus is 260mb big, in other words you only need to make it as big the file is, of course other mods are useless for this as they are of a considerable size,(4gb max for free ramdisk). but u are right on recommending atleast 8gb min of ram people should have to make an actual ramdisk, it also should be added for people with below 8gb or ram or less ramdisks shouldnt be higher than 1gb-1.5gb of ram as once the ram becomes a "drive" on it's own using ramdisk it cannot be used for normal system tasks (eg: running google chrome).it in a sense locks its usage only for exe's/programs "inside" the ramdrive itselfList of dayZ mods ramdisk is optimal for : Dayz:Chenarus:260mb Dayz:Epoch-550mb Dayz:Fallujah:550mb Dayz:Isla Duala:830mb Dayz Lingor:1.5gb Dayz:Utes: 250mb Dayz:Zargabad:250mb Dayz:+:250mb EDIT: I got these figures from play with six

Hey all, as we all know dayz, well arma 2 more specifically is a really poorly optimized game and doesnt run really well even on high tier hardware computers, but for people like me with basic/below average setups (DUAL CORE I3 550, ATI RAEDON5450 1GB, 4GBS RAM) get an absolute flogging when it comes to fps, now im sure almost all of you know about config editing/ramdisk/ingame options, but the other day i discovered a simple,easy tip by myself while tampering with stuff, this tip is power options. Power options basically is a set of preset options, 3 to be precise (powersaver,balanced,high performance) the difference between these is pretty self explanatory, however i will still go over these options in as much detail as i can. Power Saver: A preset option that's intention is to save power, but at the cost of decreasing system operational ability where possible (cpu power) making the pc more power efficient, but at the cost of speed Balanced: This is the standard setting which all people should have by default, this setting is a mixture of everything really, better than powersaver by a longshot but still lacks some operational ability due to preset options for the plan High Power: My choice, this option optimal for gaming imo, it enables the cpu to run at full capacity at ALL times with no limitations, the only downside to this is the power usage, however even with that negative it is worth it due to the fps boost Average fps on balanced: 15-20 sometimes 30 when in bare landscapes (around starry) whilst on this setting i lagged horrifically in and around towns/cities and forests Average fps on High power 25-30 sometimes even higher (35-40)depending on terrain/landscape, but on the whole ALOT more smooth and efficient, i barely lag in cites/forests anymore, of course somtimes i have massive fps drops, only for a second or two at a time,but for all who have played Dayz for a considerable amount of time, would know that this is a normal occurrence, and even happens people with very good rigs. i also would like to add that i am using the config tweaks/ramdisk to boost my fps further, but despite this i am 100% sure that since changing my power options to high performance has had a positive impact on my fps.     by all means, copy and paste this to your thread if you wish, i have no problem with that =)also, regarding improving it more, i am not sure, in power options (win7)there are plenty of advanced options to tweak it more specifically, however it is to my knowledge high power maxes out all these settings, with the most important performance based tweak being under the "processor power management" tab, under this tab there are 3 sub-tabs "minimum processing state" "system cooling policy" and lastly maximum processor state, the one that matters the most is the minimum processing state as in other plans such as "balanced" it is set too 5% meaning it only uses what it needs, what power options does by default is it sets the "minimum processing state " too 100% making it always running at full capacity even if it doesn't need too, resulting in higher performance, unfortunately that is the only "major" impact setting in the power options, there could possibly be more, but it doesnt really matter if one knows, because "high performance" maxes everything.

    ya, its that bad, the ak 74 is a hard weapon to use, not impossible though, in the right hands a decent weapon (headshots),however i would choose an akm/m16/m4 anyday over that garbage, i mean the damage blows (2.7k)

    everyones gotta understand zombies are already a threat always have being, always will, the reason people think otherwise is because they cannot run indoors,and once they can in the standalone i can assure you peoples opinions on them being "under powered" or "not a threat" will change very, very fast. IMO for me at least zombies having the ability to run in doors, is a major threat on its own.

    i know people will disagree, and have different opinions i respect that, dont get me wrong i dont want the game to become CoD, but arma2/dayz already has bullet drop/travel, imo adding wind is too much.

    i dont care about if it comes to console at some point, all i care about, and im sure many other people agree with me on, is the development and the release of dayz on pc, I dont see what the problem people have with it being released on console, i wouldnt buy it personally, but they are a company and the aim of a company is to make money, and today with a large community on consoles, there is alot of money to be made, so imo it would be foolish for them not to, and to the people wondering about the release date and how console will affect its "development speed" for pc, you need to remember that current consoles (360,ps3) are not capable of running a high demanding game such as dayz, to my knowledge atleast. So ask yourself why would they develop a game for a console which could not support it, sure they could develop it for next gen consoles but as far as i know the soonest one of those will be released is by the end of next year, also whose to say the new consoles could even run it?, i dont think sony and microsoft are going to be putting expensive, top of the line gpus into their new consoles, and not only that dean (developer of dayz) hasnt even mentioned console development of dayz has even begun yet, besides it would be stupid of them to start working a console port, when they dont even know whether dayz will be successful on pc (although im sure it will)

    i understand completely what you are saying, however making it too realistic would would take all the fun out of the game, as one person said before everyone would camp the hospital, and it would be such a big process to go to a hospital after being shot like twice just to get now i understand people have different views, and want as much realism as possible (i do to) but there is an extent that should go to. Because adding too much realism can ruin the fun. IMO

    yea agreed , it is pretty much impossible to exactly create the environemnts of an apocalypse, mostly due to no emotional repurcussions, as you are only killing pixels

    yea, it will take some time to get it tuned right, people need to accept that,im sure there is a good level of hearing/seeing that the devs will find soon, people have gotta realise that instead of complaining about it, they should start to give feedback, when i say feedback i mean detailed suggestions, this would help the devs in fine tuning it faster than it would take by themselves.

    yea,a basic scope would be a good idea, however either the weapon (lee enfield) or the scope should be nerfed to a relatively low drop rate, i would make the scope low drop personally, mostly because if a sight for the lee enfield was really easy to acquire it would probably become annoying with everyone trying to snipe eachother and make cqb in city's obsolete

    i see, yea, i agree with u on the whole "duct tape" idea, it would be nice to have some basic attachment(s) on civ weapons such as a flashlight
