Oh, we'll definitely see a shitload of those kinds of servers. They're lazy and easy to make. That's not what we're talking about, not at all. We're talking about how we'll be able to use the mod tools to facilitate much more interesting roleplay. And given that we're the ones talking about using these systems to do new and interesting things, stop telling us it's too ambitious. "Too ambitious," is a phrase for lazy people, edgy cynics, and faceless corporations.

A new fresh look to the airfield?

Good points, Whyherro. More overgrowth required.
  4. Gews, Veshcula - for what it's worth, it looks like the two of your have agreed that you're playing fundamentally different games with fundamentally different assumptions. Hey, it's your business, but I can't see anything productive emerging from continuing that particular branch of the conversation.

A new fresh look to the airfield?

I think the current storyline suggests that a large-scale evacuation took place, and that while a lot of supplies might have been left behind at the time, approximately five years have passed since the outbreak - plenty of time for any military base's supplies to be raided and emptied. However more buildings, especially office buildings, is a thing I'm totally in favour of.

Mini Game Scenarios rather than just Open World PVP

You know, I once briefly joined up with a roleplay group that had their own server. I had plans, man. It was way too early in DayZ's dev cycle for the plans to really be more than ideas on paper, but I still think the basic outline could be something truly epic and gratifying. The basic idea was to divide the map into imaginary zones largely focused around the villages - Chernogorsk is big enough it could run maybe a couple of dozen zones like that, a handful of square block. And then various groups, or even lone players looking to build a group from the ground up (or just do their own thing, that's cool too) would try to claim ownership. Like a less cartoony version of the various GTA games that have turf mechanics. I was thinking along the lines of keeping a running map of who controls what areas, and maybe having a weekly event wherein various groups try to attack/defend territory, with occasional events where you'd have to perform less combat-focused missions, like sneaking around to steal things, prison breaks, the whole shebang. Various territories might give various resources per cycle, and these resources could be used to 'improve' your territories, initiate special events outside the normal scope, influence weekly events (spend 10 machine points to get a truck for the event, spend two manpower points to add some barricades or something to an area, that sort of thing. I still have images in my head of one group faking a gunfight to draw another group away so a third party can storm their base and steal their cars. Scripting and modding brings a lot of really cool possibilities. I'd originally been thinking of basically encouraging the 'gangs' to gobble up and hold territory, rack up various resources, then expend those resources for strategic advantages during a bi-annual super awesome event thing of some manner I never really got around to figuring out, but with modding and scripting, it could look at Epoch's simple NPC system as a basis for improving territories, and I recall there being plenty of AI events on some specially configured DayZ mod servers which could play into such a system. Wouldn't it be cool if you could capture a hospital, staff it with NPC doctors? Perhaps charge some manner of fee for their use? Or collect a fuckton of ammo, hire an NPC vendor, and set conversion rates for various valuable items? The possibilities are actually pretty cool. It actually makes me want to see these mod tools come out.

    Best updated WIki?

There are a handful of other wiki-style information repositories for this game. None of them are regularly or reliably updated. It's often more fun to discover these things organically, anyway, but good luck finding what you need.

    Imagine if you will

It definitely should be that way. I can't say I'm hopeful, though; that's a lot of dynamic events, and a clever way of keeping these vehicles looking like background as many of them do now. It's also worth noting that many of what I'll call the non-active vehicles are write-offs, with rusted frames, broken axles, or basically destroyed engines. To even consider repairs for most of them would require access to certain kinds of metals (or their ores, and a smelting factory), fairly delicate machining (which itself requires somewhat sophisticated tools), raw rubber, and the strength (or a clever, strong pulley system) to mount/dismount an engine, and lift the vehicle up at least partially for underbody work. I really like the idea of being able to find a spare tail-light or electronic parts in these wrecks, maybe strip them down for things like the platinum or palladium in a catalytic converter.

    Uptime? What's uptime?

Uh, well, you see, that's where I disagree with you. In fact, I believe that that is exactly the point of alpha-stage development. You implement features. In beta, you fix those features so they work. It's alpha, so you should get over being disconnected every half hour. Because it's alpha.

    Steam reviews + player count

Man joins forum just to post thread drawing everyone's attention to some recent negative reviews of a game that's still in alpha-stage development but makes sure to let everyone know he thinks the devs are working hard and wants to see .60 hit stable quick so no sales are lost. Excuse me while I go check the pantry - I think I've still got enough tinfoil in there to make myself a nice chapeau.

    Uptime? What's uptime?

One day, people will learn how to read, and they'll suddenly understand that this game is in alpha, and it will be a glorious day, with beans and AS50s for everyone.

    When do you talk shit?

Jake's got the right idea. Shit-talking is a useful skill to develop for just such a situation. Pretty much everywhere else, it's juvenile and useless. That being said, there's an art to shit-talking someone comically such that even they'd acknowledge the humour. Unfortunately, the young ones are often inexperienced enough that they wouldn't know the difference.

    All alone?

Elektro and Cherno, I believe, are still fairly well populated, though you have to enjoy murder to really get the most out of those population zones. Zelenogorsk is generally an excellent one, as well as the area surrounding Myshkino. I run into people in Krasnostav fairly often, and I suspect most groups stash their bases in the woods in the NE section of the map. Kamyshovo is usually bumpin', though it suffers the same issues as Cherno and Elektro. I don't often run into people on the NWAF anymore, though I wouldn't say it's uncommon to see someone there. All the cities surrounding it, especially Vybor and Kabanino. Stary Sobor from time to time. That's pretty much the list these days. There might still be a bunch of PvP in Berezino, but I haven't felt like checking.

Eh, it's a roleplaying game. Sometimes playing barbie dolls isn't enough, and you need a dollhouse.

What notice will we get for 0.60?

One day you'll log into DayZ and it'll already be running .60, but I imagine you knew that.

Military Item Spawning has too many useless items

This is not true. I'll concede that irony can be more difficult to detect in a text-only environment if you're inexperienced with the culture in question. Good for you. I regret to point out that your study of history, while laudable, is irrelevant to the discussion. I am unimpressed by your stories of physical prowess, academia, and mating. You're doing an excellent job living out the definition of a pedant. Perhaps it's confirmation bias, but nearly every post of yours I stumble across on these forums involves you shitting on some person or concept. I don't see many positive contributions from your end. Unless you're living as an isolationist, which does not appear to be the case, all the learning in the world pales next to the most important lesson of all: how to get along with people.

Holy personality disorder, Batman. I'll let you in on a secret, mate. These numbers were a joke. No, really. Humour. We all spotted it immediately. Sorry to burst your bubble of righteous indignation. =/

Picking up your gear after you die.

The knowledge that you can comfortably assume anyone you've just killed is, in fact, running straight back for his body, and hoping to kill you when he gets there, is a bit of an immersion killer. The game needs something to change this, though what exactly that is I don't know.

About the new .60 performance comparison
