Anyone else felt/noticed that their content gets automatically deleted on reddit?
Funkmaster Rick replied to zombieland78's topic in General Discussion
Last I heard, Reddit has some hardcore collectivist moderators, but not necessarily from anything like a reputable source. I don't use it much myself, so I can't really comment, just offer up food for thought. Incidentally, anytime you find yourself saying something like, "I get a deluge of downvotes the minute I step 1mm out of line," you've got to consider that most people don't feel the need to make a protestation of innocence when complaining about repression. The innocence is just conversationally assumed. Maybe you're stepping more than a millimetre out of line? Maybe they're collectivist assholes who are just keeping you down? Maybe your roommate figured out your Reddit password and is pulling a prank on you? Who knows? We don't. -
Players Of DayZ - Topics I've Seen And Discussion[Try Something New]
Funkmaster Rick replied to Vexatious's topic in General Discussion
DayZ is one of the few games that generates stories as well as gameplay. It reminds me so much of Dwarf Fortress in that one aspect that it astounds me sometimes. Admittedly, DayZ has some of the best fights of any FPS I've ever played, but if you're only playing it for the fights, you're wasting so much of the game. -
I know your statement didn't specifically rule this out, but I'm reminded of the tale from either Iraq or Afghanistan wherein the Americans were having trouble with this particularly mountainous area being used as a sort of base of operations. They couldn't see a non-costly way of assaulting it. So they sent in some guys at night with shovels and empty HESCO bastions. They filled them up and had a makeshift base overnight, which allowed them to assert control over the whole of the mountainous area they were concerned with. No heavy equipment required.

What movies/series/game would describe DayZ for you?

The internet is slowly killing all the old communications quasi-monopolies. Isn't it wonderful? -
Standing in ponds is the new falling through floors

Just so's you know, Mook, hyperthermia isn't fatal. The dehydration that results if you don't keep properly hydrated is, though. -

Just pretend they're already simulating life-threatening parasites in natural water sources. Wear a condom when you go swimming, kids! -
So these massive bases full of loot are hackers, right?

You say that, but have you ever tried bartending? That's literally the job most nights. =p -
The favourites list has always been buggy, so's you know. I frequently have to direct port into the servers I play on regularly, because they've never shown up in my favourites.

The reliability of the gun doesn't mean bunk if the primer on your bullet has degraded.

I think that's kind of the point of the coastal fog: to make PvP harder, and especially to discourage geared snipers from killing naked bambis all day. Since most bambi weapons have a much shorter effective range than most geared weapons, it essentially gives the bambis a chance to get within their effective range before taking fire. It gives them a chance. -

Shit, I'm a Flight Sim fan myself. I'd fly these things just because. -
Bullet damage or clothing ballistic damage protection bugged.

Makes me wonder if bullets can ricochet off the end of a ballistic helmet. -

I also play 1pp only. The comedy scenes largely come from interaction with clans and other mid-size groups. They... they get bored. -

Somehow shot you in the head? Then you don't know the angle the bullet hit you from, which means you don't know what else it was interacting with before it hit you. Are you even certain it was in the head? -

The Road is a good one. I've had lots of fucked up moments in DayZ that fit that movie, almost exclusively related to 12-year-olds trying to kill and/or torture me. -

A lot of people almost certainly just bought the game around launch time to get it at a cheaper price. They knew about the plan to raise prices as the game approached 1.0 And "It's alpha," is still a valid argument. -
He's got a mid-range rig at the moment. I'd even say upper end of mid-range.

You know, I'm really happy to see Hicks taking a more active role here the past few days for just this reason.

Worth taking a look at this game again?

I generally play lone wolf. I'm a fan of AK-74s for their versatility and penetrative qualities; they'll shoot through wood doors when you're breaching. Great for those tricky home invasions. Flashbangs were fun for a while, too, and when you can sneak up on three or four guys and flash them, you just have to do it. Most of the time, I'm not even looking for PvP, but it'll find me anyway. I do my best to assess intention when I'm watching someone, but from a distance. I've been burned enough to err on the side of caution. I frequently aim to evade and avoid, but sometimes that's not an option. And sometimes I think to myself, "This way this guy moves makes me think he'll shoot me if he can. If I let him live, there's nowhere nearby I can be totally certain I'm safe. Might as well take him while I've got the drop on him." Sometimes I kill for sport. Sometimes I'm a bad person on DayZ. What I actually like about the PvP, however, is the fucking adrenaline. You work for a good gear set in DayZ. You're invested the minute you make a significant step towards endgame. Shotgun? Backpack? Bomber jacket? Invested three times. When you're camping and waiting for someone to walk into your killzone, it can be fucking boring. It's not fun, it's mean and silly. No, what really makes DayZ great is when you fucking stumble onto somebody completely by surprise and you've got two choices: Show him you're human and hope to make a friend, or aim to be the first on the trigger and make sure you're walking out of this one. Welcome to DayZ, man, how's your day been?

Yeah, that's called 'emergent gameplay.' We're big fans of emergent gameplay and idea-swapping here. Not so big fans of the many mini-rants that show up on this forum letting us know all the things we shouldn't be discussing. Reinventing the wheel is how you get better wheels. -

Would it be possible to have linked subservers in a server?
Funkmaster Rick replied to exwoll's topic in General Discussion
Seems like it could be accomplished by having multiple servers on a shard and just banning a player from one of those servers when they die. But it sounds like a pain in the ass from the admin side, and groups will ultimately ruin it when one of their members dies and suddenly everyone in the group knows where their individual stash is without having been told during that character's life.
