    The .51 character wipe

If every update means starting from scratch, it could take significantly longer for the devs to get feedback on changes and additions. Stop worrying about the jackasses who dupe or exploit the loot system; they'll get a cattle prod followed by liberal applications of brass knuckles shortly.

    Why...........(movement and avatar control)

Firstly, I think OP deserves a bit of an apology on this one. It looks like you're fairly new Cole, and while your question was innocent, you used a few buzzwords that turn some members of this community into raving lunatics. Namely, you mentioned CS:GO and CoD. These are big no-nos in this community. Sure, your comparison was useful, but as soon as you say CoD a good third of the community will write you off for even having heard about that game this one time. This stigma results from an on-going "debate" about kill-on-sight banditry, as one party might call it, and being a giant douchenozzle, which the other party might call it. Basically, 95%+ run around deathmatching in this game, and they like to blame CoD and other arcade-style shooters for that. They think having smelled the long-chain monomers from a freshly-opened package of Call of Duty from twenty feet away forever taints you and prohibits you from playing DayZ. So while your comparison was valid, you'll notice it's rankled a bunch of people. Sorry about that. Ignore them. Maybe try not to mention other games in the future; this community seems to frown on comparisons. Lots of fanboyism. Tread carefully. As far as I know, the dev team actually has a lot of plans regarding fluidity of control. They've recognized that almost nobody truly enjoys this clunky system of motion, but they're also committed to authenticity - in other words, they'll be making movement much more fluid, but you should always expect some manner of clunk. I think I heard they've looking to really focus on turning breaching (the act of entering a potentially hostile building carefully and safely) into a realistic tactic, and make cornering less of a hassle. So there's hope. But it's an alpha-stage game, so your patience on this particular point must be robust. You'll find that at least half of this forum community doesn't really understand what alpha means. Try not to be them. The half of this forum community that gets the whole alpha thing seems to be getting more and more annoyed at this lack of understanding.
  3. +1, I would like to know this as well.

What is it that makes the fps so bad? Engine? DX9?

Where DayZ is concerned, my GPU is its spurned wife and my CPU is its over-worked mistress. It just won't stop fucking the CPU, but won't give my GPU the attention it needs. Relationship problems are clearly why DayZ runs so badly.
  5. The second and last point are really the same thing - everyone's getting these desync issues from time to time, though anecdotal evidence suggests that a significant part of that depends on which server you're on. I've gotten the third issue once so far. Others I know have had it happen a couple of times. Throwing a full-pristine LRS mosin off a cliff and into the ocean is somewhat annoying. =3 Addendum: Regarding the melee changes, they take some readjustment but aren't game-breaking. The first-person animation definitely doesn't line up properly with the actual hitbox any longer, but it only took me half a dozen zombies to readjust. No troubles now.

[Being nice] Should I rob people for their M4A1?

Being nice gets you killed. Shoot him and take it, even if only to hide it in a bush a kilometre away and let it rot. Never give a weapon to someone you don't already know, even unloaded.
  7. Technically, it's his responsibility to produce a product that people want to buy. Current sales for DayZ suggest he's fulfilled this responsibility. Not that I'm trying to rag on you or anything! I just see that argument twisted a lot to suggest he should listen to the players more. I fear the devs ever listening to the vocal minority (or sometimes even the vocal majority) and seeing them sell out. OP's right: it's all about dilemmas.

PLEASE make the pig safe is unicorn of dayz

    Qu'est-ce que fuck, dude?

    Civilian mags in civilian places...

A lot of these arguments only make sense in the real world, and not necessarily in a zombie-filled world where people have already been surviving for years.

    Chem lights rock

I have a plan. Hire ten bambis. Make sure they have working flashlights, and a shitload of chemlights/flares. Have one person drop the bass followed by a spastic light-show. It's just like a rave, only with morphine sticks instead of MDMA.

    Fishing trip! :D

... the picture of you holding the carp. Can we beat people to death with raw fish, now? PLEASE SAY YES

The Apple selling business has really gone downhill.

Looks like they're giving you a discount on bullets, though. Any good grocer will tell you that rotating stock and dry items is the key to success!

    I need your guys opinion

If it were on Twitch, I'd say just keep shooting. I can't be certain as I haven't spent enough time looking for DayZ streams on Twitch, but it appears that those viewers are only interested in PvP with the occasional dose of shenanigans - it's always been one of the driving forces behind why there are so many bandits that banditry is the only consistently survivable play-style at the moment (aside from play-styles where you do not interact with other players at all). But if you're thinking Youtube... travelling bard. Fucking do it. If you do it well enough, you will become a god.

    Adding dynamism to gunfights

I tried to show a friend standing behind me some DayZ gameplay. He asked me if my character had ALS. </thread>

    Every server resets constantly

I've never understood the purpose of annoying someone if you can't even (at least eventually) see their reaction and annoyance. It takes a lot of blind faith to troll like that. I know VAC won't ban for this kind of an exploit, but I'm sure if the devs had some kind of tracker to see which players do this sort of thing (if they don't already), they might learn some interesting things. =3

    This is just unplayable now

No zombies there, sure. No reason a player didn't stumble across him in the thirty seconds since he logged out, rather than tracking him as you thought I meant. Standalone has only been public for months, but the mod came out a while back, you know. =3 Tactics and strategic thinking has remained largely unchanged throughout the DayZ franchise - the same skills are equal or nearly equal in usefulness, including one's thought process in choosing a place to log out.

PSA: A warning for magazines and open slots

Breaking things as they fix other things is a time-honoured tradition in game development. Do some players really still need to be reminded of what alpha means? No more updates? Somebody's mad, bro.

    Minimum Players to Start

Ignoring all the childishness and churlishness here, I'ma go ahead and address this idea on its merits and weaknesses. It would help somewhat to screw over the people who gear up on low-pop servers and then take their gear to high-pop servers to PvP. It would not address the issue entirely, though, as you'll always have some servers where the admin kicks everyone who isn't his friend off so his buddies can gear up there without having to actually defend themselves against enemy players. Even as servers stand now, with admins being able to do nothing except kick players and set restart timers, you can see this on a handful of servers. It won't go away without an entirely different approach. The biggest problem I see? Playing during non-peak hours would become almost entirely impossible. During off-peak hours, you'd be herded toward certain servers that are able to maintain their numbers during those times. This would give those server admins a kind of power that they really don't need, and I expect they would use it irresponsibly. Too big a risk, in my opinion. Not to mention the possibility of simply not being able to play because there aren't enough players online in your timezone right now. If your choice ends up being not playing/playing at 200 ping/grovelling to some admin who's mad with power, a lot of people would take the first option. =/

    make gunshots louder?

Shot report travelling farther would be really nice. But I don't think it should be realistic. If you can sometimes hear shots from a firing range 8 miles away... I would not want some in Kamenka to be able to hear my shooting in Kamyshovo. Firing a single bullet would risk drawing other players in from at /least/ a quarter of the entire map. It would be constant gunfire.
  20. Funkmaster Rick

    put the CAMERA

If they do this, make underwear removable. I want to leave pictures of my dick across their face on all the people I kill for whoever finds the body. I hope that counts as a new idea. =3
  21. Funkmaster Rick

Being able to tuck pistols in pants?

Rigor Mortis hit the main point - this manner of carry is not stable enough for anything more vigourous than a walk without some manner of holster or other stabilizer between the cheeks. In DayZ, you've gotta pack for marathon running. =3
  22. Funkmaster Rick

    Chambering rounds using "R" key,

I agree that swapping clips and re-chambering a single round should have some manner of parity to make it possible for players lacking clips to fire more than one shot in a fight before being forced to run away. Whether that should mean making clip-swapping harder or round-chambering easier is an argument with valid points on both sides.
  23. Funkmaster Rick

Make it possible for other people to access your backbag

I'ma have to go ahead and just stop you right there. Between having your dropped backpack reappear twenty feet away somewhere inaccessible, dropping your backpack only to find out the server shutdown while it was still on the ground, and dropping your backpack to just have it disappear entirely, I'm not sure I'd agree with you. That being said, the surrender option probably covers what OP is looking for. As long as we don't return to the mod days, I'm happy... I've certainly tap-walked up to snipers entirely silently and stolen their CQC weapon from their bags without them hearing a single sound till I'm shooting. And I can't be the only person who thinks this is just as dirty and deplorable a tactic as it is unrealistic and inauthentic.

    Skinning Animals in .47

Of the half-dozen friends I have who still play DayZ, we've only ever seen one combat knife in a combined 2000 hours of playtime, and it was ruined. I carry a machete for skinning, since it's the only pristine bladed melee weapon I've run across recently. It skins fine. It averages 80% per stack when preparing fishsticks.

can this build run dayz and the dayz mod

Ignoring the kiddies, the answer is basically: Yes your rig will run it, no your rig will not run it at 60 FPS. Rigs that routinely run Crysis with 60+ FPS will fail at DayZ. It's the engine, not the rig. Your GPU/CPU combination will probably average about 30 FPS inside cities (and you should expect sub-10 FPS drops every handful of blocks). With some optimizations and telling your card to over-ride DayZ on certain functions, you'll probably get it up to 45 FPS inside cities. You should still expect sub-10 FPS drops no matter what, though they'll be significantly rarer if you've optimized properly.
