20 words or less: Very Low Humanity = Flies/Crows
lodestar replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
YES, definitely. Maybe not the flies, but having the crows following the player around is a good idea. -
Just put on the ghillie suit. What are my chances?
lodestar replied to patluk@sasktel.net's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm on day 5, hopping between my favorite 1.6 server and the 1.7 server my friends play, without any problems so far. I'm with the ghillie suit, but I played up to day 4 before on camo. I always wait a few minutes before logging out, including never logging out in a rush to avoid death, although I killed Arma 2 on the task manager when I got in unconscious and bleeding once. Stayed off until medics arrived, and no problem. -
As long as you can have something holding the lever in place, a grenade could be used for traps in countless manners, it doesn't have to be something taking lots of inventory space, and grenades are uncommon enough already. You put a grenade under a body or a weapon that holds the lever in place with its weight, pull the pin and run away. When someone picks up the weapon or move the body to search for loot, booom!

Is it really serious? Oh my God, what's next... militant atheists asking to have the churches removed?

Is this a joke?

I've been using the ghillie suit for over a week with the same character, no problems so far. -
A grenade itself could be used, with no penalty for space, but there should be a small risk the user itself triggers it when using the pack. Users wouldn't use it routinely, but when severely wounded.

Rough models for the green pouch items.
lodestar replied to billyangstadt's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
they are both .45 ACP' date=' that's why they look almost identical [/quote'] Makes sense, but put in that context, it would be better if we could find boxes or blisters of ammo and fill mags and jet reloaders with them. -
Need Medical Assistance? We can help.
lodestar replied to Dr Wasteland MD's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yes, these guys are the real deal. I enjoy playing the lone wolf and I try as much as possible to not put myself in the kind of situation I might get killed, but sometimes it's a real tragedy, you do everything right and still get in trouble. I usually carry plenty of medical supplies on my backpack, but today due to three bugs/glitches in a very unfortunate sequence of events I ended up injured, bleeding, leg broken, and with no bandages and morphine. I called Dr. Wasteland on Steam, he sent me Dr. Feckless who helped me promptly. -
Rough models for the green pouch items.
lodestar replied to billyangstadt's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Do all pistol magazines have no model? 1911 mag is a small ammo box with yellow/green markings. .45 ACP is yellow/red. Using a similar system for others could help a lot and little to no extra modelling would be needed. -
Items recreated if removed from inventory while looting meat
lodestar posted a topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Date/Time: 06/02/2012 and 06/09/2012 What happened: I gut an animal for meat, and when I started to loot the meat I realized I didn't have enough inventory space in my backpack. First, on 1.6, when I tried to drop stuff "on the animal", without moving my inventory target to an empty spot on the ground, the items would not be removed and would be created on the animal. For instance, I had one stanag mag, then when I tried to drop it I created a new mag on the animal, then I could pick that up again, ending up with two mags. Each attempt would repeat that and I could "create" as many mags as I wanted. A week later, on 1.7, I did the same thing again to check if it was fixed. I dropped meat and stanag mags the same way, and picked them up again, trying to put them in a full bag from the animal meat pile. Apparently it didn't happened at first. I played for some time but didn't touched my bag. On the next day, when I logged in, my bag was full of raw meat and stanag mags. All other items disappeared and were filled with meat and mags. Where you were: On the fields NE of Stary Sobor What you were doing: *Current installed version: Beta 93586, DayZ 1.6 and 1.7 *Server(s) you were on: Bashurverse 2 (1.6), US 16 (1.7) *Your system specs: *Timeline of events before/after error: -
I think they are interdependent, and the lower bound is the development and hosting model. If it's studio development and servers, I'd prefer it to be a one time purchase. I'd hate if the game starts to incorporate carrot chasing mechanics in order to maximize monthly signatures and play time for profit, like happened with WoW and other MMOs. If it's community development and servers, I'd glady pay a montly fee up to $15 in order to have quality servers and a better experience, as long as I can stop playing for a few months without losing my character. I guess studio development and community servers joins the best of both worlds. I'm totally against free to play. That ruined a few good games.

removing bandit skin transition is a fail
lodestar replied to Greenny's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
In the south coast cities people are often too trigger happy because they run into each other too often, but if you go north, the game is a lot more interesting. Find a place and get to know it better, instead of running all the map. After a while you'll learn where people come from when they go there, what they are looking for, etc. It's simple to have them in your crosshair while hiding and ask in chat for them to identify their name and what they are doing. Remember, the game objective is survival. It's not killing, it's not getting good gear, cars or anything else. Survival. If right now people are running amok killing each other, your chances of survival will decrease if you put yourself in that situation. The game barely started, things will change again many times. Adapt or die! -
In Arma pins can be removed by anyone. I guess DayZ has no change regarding this.

DayZ has become Deathmatch / Team Deathmatch
lodestar replied to underpaidorphan's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I can say one thing for sure. After you have good gear and equipment, hunting bandits is one of the most interesting things to do, much better than being a bandit. A few days ago I had a lot of fun tracking a bandit for some time until I found him, set a trap and he fell for it. This kind of thing could be documented and further developed by the community, not by in-game rules and mechanics. People keep complaining the game turned into a DM (which I disagree, it didn't), but there was a large influx of new players who never played Arma and aren't used to the kind of simulation enforced by it, which is a game of patience and persistence. If we clearly document things that can be done, of what else you can do after getting good gear and supplies, besides becoming a PK, people will find that interesting and do it. Many are joining due to the hype and think it has to be played like everything else. Maybe having starting professions would help, but a wiki page documenting "roles you can assume" in game would too. I've been RPGing as a hunter, so I basically hunt animals for food and watch things from far away, and I haven't been killed for a while. Right now most people have no idea how to play it, so they do what they know. It's that simple. -
DayZ has become Deathmatch / Team Deathmatch

Well... I've been playing Arma 2 for a few years but I've played DayZ for only a few days. I haven't seen how it used to work before and I got the bandit skin thing a few days before it was removed, yet I think the game mechanics works nicely now, despite all claims that it became a DM. I personally love how the mod is working so far, letting players decide the morality rules in it, because that's what the game is ultimately meant for. To introduce artificial rules in it will make it unrealistic, and so far DayZ is the most realistic game I've seen regarding this human aspect. If people are killing each other, then you just have to be extra, extra careful and not put yourself in a position you might get killed. That has to be part of the game too, and it's what makes it great. If you want a second chance, or if you want the right to commit mistakes, there are plenty of games like that. After I learnt enough of the game I haven't been killed by other players a single time. I'm extra careful, and I love playing it like that, because it feels real. I do play solo most of the time, but just because I don't trust other players to tag along and do something stupid. That's also part of the game and I love it. One of the best moments I had in the game so far was recently when I was looking for some supplies in a supermarket. I was picking up some stuff in a rush and by mistake left the front door open and my back turned to it. Someone else rushed in, I dropped to the floor immediately, and they too, behind a stand. My heart raced, their too, and it was awesome, for a game. I never seen that kind of tension arising in any game. Actually, I've not seen it in any medium. When I started telling them to not shoot, another guy came in and I thought, F***, but not for a second I was angry with the game rules. I realized it was my mistake. I rushed to the next room and they didn't shoot. We announced each other on the chat, I said I would go back there walking with my gun down, and we worked it out. They could have shot me, and maybe I was lucky and someone else would, but this kind of good faith pays in the long term. I could have just run to the back door, or tossed a grenade I had and it would be just like DM, but we worked it out as human beings and ended up helping each other for a while. That kind of thing happens in game, and it doesn't have to be explicitly enforced by game mechanics or rules. Sure, it would be nice to have more stuff that needs cooperation, new content, but not new rules. So far I've only seen this mad-max pvp people keep talking about in the big cities, and I just stay far away from them as much as I can. If the objective is to survive, that's the smartest thing to do.
