How to lower the ”shot on sight” mentality
wisper replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Demongroover nailed it with the ammo issue. Another KOS deterant is noise. If zs become harder and more noise sencitive, u will think twice before making yourself gun-loud... or use it to attract as many zs in your position as possible when cornered :p -
U find portable cardiographs, (yes they exist in every hospital). U combine them with gps/radio/army hud. U have an online update of friends' heartbeat, communication and gps location... as long as there is power, radio signal and a satellite over your heads... airsoft bonanza, (doesn't work indoors).
-
Does not! :p If u keep your pointer for 5secs over a target, it's not the name that betrays the position.
-
...In the end I think we all say the same thing, aka no extra bandit drawbacks, (other then the infection risk,) and more cooperation benefits. Myself am stuck with the permanent name issue, which I think is super important for players to know where they stand in respect to who they meet. This "reputation" is more vital then any hero/bandit skin and it was superbly well explained in its own topic two-three months back. The topic was Perma-identity by Mickhail.

Yep :p

U duct tape a grenade on the back and the pin arround the head, (like a harness). Then u tell the victim to run cause on the count of ten u open fire... sometimes I even surprise myself, sick...
-
Chris do u know how to skin a cat? Cause I have a dozen ways and the strongest is community. If a griefer works his/her way through enough players, it follows that they will shoot the griefer on sight and even band together and go out of their way to dispose of said bandid. That is why permanent names are so important.

Cool idea, if it can be done. If not, could u turn into a ghost for a minute or so to pester the living? Depending on the time u survived before your demise, the ghost could range from weak apparition to strong screeching-slapping banshee like b#$@.

As stated in the past, museum value in a game like dayz lies on the medieval exhibits. I remember the most prevalent idea was to find/create schematics that u could take to a workshop and make happen... My favourite would be the pole-axe. Imagine a truck with three-four guys in the back lopping z-heads with those ;)

Been playing arma3 wasteland lately and the one thing I want to see is more territory. Island is fine but by now is same old same old. So desert? Yes! Tundra, jungle, metropolies, farmland, north pole, etc? Yes to all! Need as much diversity as possible. Needs the player to say, "where shall I go today," not "shall I visit the third house on the right, I think I missed it last time."

Rewire battery in the car to give a jolt to whoever starts the engine. Pop a grenade, pin off, in the hood, so when they try to fix the wiring it blows in their face :)
-
My end game is to shave Hetstaine's head :P I think if u call it "achievement" instead, it will be received better,.. or not. Anyway, I like the basic idea and the hoard.

Perma-identity. Nickname is permanent. Nickname as face. Cover face - conceal nickname.
wisper replied to DZR_Mikhail's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I like the initial aproach (perma nick name acting as face) and the corrections (changable after 3-6 months, distance relative/clicking for name to appear). The question of introducing one self and thus revealing the name could lead to players assuming other people's ids just to smear their reputation, so... no, unless one can only reveal true id. In that case though, we should all have the ability to "tag" unknowns if they don't want to introduce themselves, (bet there are going to be lots of "a$#@!es" going about ;) ). My biggest issue is aesthetic. How do we explain respawning the same after death. Unless there is an underwater lab facility that spawns clones of immune humans in the infected zone, in order to collect data for a cure or aliens conducting their own experiment... My point is, there has to be a plausible explenation for this, and it holds true irrespective of the name tag, (but becomes more imperative with it). People say that it's a z game, how realistic can it be? In all successfull sf/fantasy endeavors, the common denominator is that beyond the original set that stretches what is believable, all other parametters remain true to what people should expect. -
Toxic gas is a good idea, but I don't see it combined with z infection per se. Perhaps radioactive spill from unatended nuclear factory/nuclear ammo dump? Or chemical contamination from nearby factory? If devs were to introduce both contamination types then u would perhaps need a full suit for the radioactive one, (plus geiger, etc) and just a mask for the chemical one? Also, what about contaminating the gear u bring along with u? Running water and showers will become important too, I guess, for decontamination. I can see it allready, people holding a point with running water and sending prisoners in the infected areas to get equipment unprotected :( Vests/helmets are cool to have as choices, as long as they affect movement accordingly. R they going to introduce ropes and ladders, or is the idea too complicated? (Asking it here because it's damn hard to climb anywhere while wearing a bulletproof vest.)

Nobody argues about pistol holsters, so this voting concerns rifles. They should be available and may I note that I have seen some fine examples of home made ones. The choice of wether u will forgo a nice big rucksack in favour of such holster should be entirely yours, but u should have such a choice to begin with. Anyway, with the average life expectancy being as it is, a backpack might not sound as important as it would be in real life... (with zs arround?)

What they taught us in the army about disposing guards is that u get a big rock, creep at them and hit them as hard as u can with it either at the base of the neck or the face. If bare handed, pick a rock.
-
R there going to be tunnels? I would like to fortify the two ends of a tunnel and make a tolls/base post... Be your frienly apocalypse troll :) As for underground bases, it should take a loooong time to complete, while ur exposed, making lots of noise and agroing all kinds of zs. By the time ur done, most everybody playing should know what u 've been up to. Come for a vist, drop a grenade or 5 down the hatch. Perhaps be able to empty fuel down there and light them up? PS- The surrounding land would look kaka after such works. Perhaps landscape sculptors/gardeners provide essential skills in an apocalypse...

No techno geek, so I don't know if it's feasable, but couldn't they provide map editor for locations that they are interested to expand? The community could work on it, play-test in private hives, then the best get officially sunctioned and added to. Wouldn't this also save tons of time and make use of human resources that is ready, able and willing... for free?!
-
I will. Promise :)

Not just spears, but all kinds of medieval goodies. A museum could prove invaluable source for shields, helmets and even more exotic weapons, like flails or halberds. Police can be the official sponsor for riot equipment also ;) Crafting yes, but it shouldn't be the only option.
-
The cool thing about messing with the inventory of someone unconsious is not what u can take, but what u can put, (grenade in one pocket, the pin up a tree :P )
-
Sorry, what I meant is helis or airplanes crashing to birds.

[SA]Who you were before shit hit the fan .
wisper replied to kalashinkov's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
J0hnm nailed it in respect to skill - respawn and how it should work in a game like dayz. ;) I have the feeling that kalashnikov is not talking about this though. It is the background story of your character, not the class or any skills. Where r they from, where r they going? I don't think this can be easy to explain. Even with a story, how can u explain appearing on the sea side, without any equipment, 5 years in the apocalypse? My super-duper solution to all this is that... wait for it... u were infected! But, your body faught off the infection over a period of time and u became consious of yourself again. Like this, u get to rediscover your character. Depending on your actions, memories of who u were could emerge as flashbacks. (Unlocked by repetition in a system similar to the one J0hnm describes.) As for kalashnikof's suggestion to look for a random other character, it's a good one and no, it is deffinitly not a quest. U get no reward for doing it, u might end up killing each other, (like some famillies do even today without the apocalypse,) or u might just ignore the damn thing. It will be there just in case u want to "flesh out" your character, like I like to do... -
I like! How about owl sound in the night too? What about air traffic/bird accidents?

Could it be possible to put a train in DayZ?
wisper replied to Poncho Villa's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
What about removing the tires from the weels and have cars running on tracks? Tunnels would offer possibilities too. Imagine a train acting as a mobile base or trade caravan. Watch Ryan's express for more inspiration ;)
