    Bandit stories

I had a fun encounter with a couple of bandits about an hour ago. I'm a fairly new spawn, but have a Mosin and 20 rounds from looting Berezino. I'm running south along the coast to Elektro, and I stop to check out the factory between Nizhnoye and Solnichiy. Inside, I see two stripped bodies, and get super paranoid. Just as I start to leave, I hear a voice from outside: "Come out and put your hands up, or I WILL kill you!" I wouldn't surrender to a bandit because it's more fun to go out fighting, plus I'm hoping that they don't know I have a Mosin, so I go prone and aim at the entrance where I came in. My heart is pounding. A bandit with a gask mask and an M4 comes into view, and I shoot at him. It looks like a hit, but he quickly goes out of view. After shooting, I immediately start retreating upstairs, hoping to get him from the roof while he's bandaging. If I go outside to finish him off, he could be waiting with the M4 out. I'm in one of the rooms at the stair landing, when the bandit sprints in with his fire ax out. I shoot him, and there's a pause when I'm not sure I hit him. Then I keep shooting, and he goes down. I loot a pristine long range scope (second time I've seen one of these) and a bunch of ammo. As I'm leaving the factory, I see another body and I realize that there were two bandits. The guy I initially shot died, but he went out of view so I couldn't see him. The one who came at me with a fire ax was his friend. This is what I love about dayz. There's no kill confirmation or anything like that, so there's often a lot of confusion in firefights. It makes everything so much more intense. Anyone have stories about an encounter with bandits?

    My friend, the psycho

players with starting gear or close are a threat I wouldn't shoot them right away, but I wouldn't turn my back either I've been wearing a pristine ballistic helmet and still been knocked out by one hit to head with a baseball bat
  4. when you're wearing a helmet? especially a ballistic helmet just to be clear, I'm talking about a blunt object, or even fists

    Item Conditions: Which Actually Matter?

ruined melee weapons still kill zombies in the same number of hits

    Item Conditions: Which Actually Matter?

I've noticed no difference with most items
  7. more like I don't enjoy shooting everyone i see this may have to change in the future
  8. either a ballistic helmet or a motorcycle helmet will more or less fully protect against fists as for the hardness of a blow, an ax will apply more force than a baseball bat
  9. neither will guarantee anything if you're hit hard enough both will make it very unlikely however
  10. yeah, it's ridiculous how deadly new spawns are
  11. we're not talking about a gunshot here, bud. We're talking about a baseball bat or comparable blunt object
  12. the probability of losing consciousness when being struck in the head is far greater without a helmet than with a helmet yet it's pretty reliable in dayz
  13. with a helmet? plenty
  14. I wasn't your posts are terrible ??? if you hit a helmeted person in the head, they are very unlikely to be knocked out what's the point of a helmet if it doesn't work?

We NEED some way to identify heros and bandits.

the problem with marking bandits is that it would make no one want to be a bandit. Bandits would have other bandits AND everyone else gunning for them, whereas non-bandits would only have bandits gunning for them. Very unfair. The way to reduce KOS is to change the way the community plays, by choice furthermore the argument that "realism is unimportant because there are unrealistic things in the game" is extremely flawed. The advantage of the game is that we don't have to deal with the boring, tedious realistic bits. This doesn't mean everything should be unrealistic. Specifically, if you instantly knew who was a bandit, it would remove the tension and drama in the game... you would know who to trust instantly

    Colour not returning.

when this happens to me, I eat/drink a lot and then find a safe place to go afk while I heal

Turning DayZ into a real survival game

honestly most of these seem unnecessary. I really dislike the idea of adding emotions or mental states to the game personally, I think the main thing that needs changing is difficulty. Food should be much rarer. Zombies should be far more plentiful. Currently workable strategies like ignoring/outrunning zombies should be less effective. Currently, the game is extremely boring until you get some guns and start looking for other players (either to help or murder). For dayz to be truly successful, just surviving needs to be challenging and engaging

Should we be able to carry two rifles?

the argument that "X feature in dayz is unrealistic, so nothing has to be realistic" is stupid
  19. noblue

Should we be able to carry two rifles?

yes I am extremely physically fit what about you?

Should we be able to carry two rifles?

in terms of realism, yes you should be able to. If I can carry a fire ax and an M4, I should be able to carry a mosin and an m4 this will be even more true when they add smaller rifles, like the SKS however, I like the tradeoff currently required. I like that snipers are less effective at close range, and players with M4 are unable to do much at long range

    Excited for Shotguns!

though shotguns in real life have a longer effective range than shotguns in games, they still have much shorter effective ranges than full length rifles and carbines since survival is the goal in dayz, range is extremely important imo

    Excited for Shotguns!

I don't think a short range weapon is really worthwhile as your primary weapon (at least if you have other options) hopefully the sawed off version will count as a sidearm
  23. I hope they add guns found in civilian areas currently, the difference between geared and not geared is whether you've visited a military area. This is sort of dumb imo

    Don't bother buying

I don't bother with unarmed/melee-only players, and I try to avoid other armed players I only shoot if an armed player shows undue interest, or I bump into someone at close range.
