Turn off avast's shields temporarily (video below) and see if DayZ commander works then -

Try disabling Windows Firewall Go to your Control Panel → System and Security → Windows Firewall → then on the left side find and click "Turn Windows Firewall on or off" and turn it off from there. -

I'd have to agree with lok Your best times in DayZ will come when you are completely new to the map. I'd just stay away from maps (in game and external) for a bit and explore all the foreign parts on your own, you won't regret it ;) -

Could also work for checking if gas mask filters work or not. if you can smell things when wearing the mask, then the filter is expired Most or all filters will probably have expired though

It's their game, they can put whatever restrictions on it they like PvE servers kind of ruin the point of the game. it allows people to explore the map and items without the danger of getting killed by another survivor; in my eyes, that is cheating

It's based on the czech republic. Quite literally, actually. They took an area in the czech republic and modeled chernarus after that, so the places you see in chernarus technically exist in real life (for the most part) -
