do people actually want a complicated medical system?
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to dgeesio's topic in General Discussion
It's going to be a controversial one, because whether we like it or not, the folks who like to run round Cherno and Elektro blasting their guns aren't going to like any addition which makes it harder for them to be a lonewolf rambo. Look at the mod - blood bags and morphine were the two medical supplies for a long time, and a regular question was 'why can't I just blood bag myself?'. On a strictly personal note, I love the idea, and I love the fact that it's going to dissuade the less committed players. It's not going to deter dedicated 'true' bandit players who ambush and rob rather than charge and kill, because if they need a specific medical supply or procedure, they'll just procure it at gunpoint (or find a friendly medic player). Having said that, I'd agree with TerrorViktor when he says that 'complex' and 'complicated' need not be the same thing, and one thing I definitely want to see in place before we add any more medical issues is a robust and clear needs/moods/status system. I don't mind whether it's text-based, icon-based, moodlet-based or transmitted by electric shocks through my keyboard, but there needs to be some reliable way of knowing what's wrong with you, because at the moment, even with this 10% complete medical system, even experienced players are scratching their heads. -
'Can't torch this'

I can probably help with this. AT THE MOMENT, you have one character across all servers. That's because all servers are linked in something called the 'public hive'. In the near future, the devs will release the server files out to the community, and people can start hosting their own private servers which act independently to the rest of the hive. These are called 'private hives'. What you do on a private hive will be completely different to what you do anywhere else. If you're in Balota on a private hive, log out, join another server, walk to Berezino, then log back into the first one again, your character will still be in Balota with whatever gear they had at the time. This is probably the best solution to your problem - wait for the private hives to come along, then play on one of those with your friend. That way, anything you do anywhere else won't affect that character.

Knocked unconscious after two punches

Yeah, I'll test that the next time I bump into Kichilron in-game. I use him as my own personal crash-test dummy. It's thanks to his paper-thin skull that I know how effective a surprise running wrench shot can be to players. :p -
Lost . . . but good?
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to foamninja's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yup, that's been one of the standout parts of the SA for me - being able to get properly lost again and not have the faintest idea where I am - my primary goal isn't to find X piece of gear or loot Y building, it's just to stay alive and maybe, just maybe finding out where the hell I am. :p -
Frequently Asked Questions and Useful Threads
Target Practice (DayZ) posted a topic in General Discussion
Okay, seeing the same questions popping up time after time at the moment, and although most of them are due to people not doing a quick search before hitting the 'new topic' button, if this helps save poor orlok's 'merge' button from further wear and tear, it's all been worth it. Q: Is it worth buying DayZ? This thread features a response from Rocket himself early on, explaining the state of things. Q: Can I run DayZ on my computer? This thread right here is the best place to ask. Q: I think I found a bug, how do I report it? Read this guide, particularly the bit about searching for existing reports, then follow the instructions it gives you. Q: My screen has gone all black and white, what's happening and how do I fix it? You're low on health. You need to get someone to administer a blood bag or saline drip on you. There's a conversation about it here that might explain the process for you. Q: Where's all the loot? I can't find anything. You're probably in a high-population area where a lot of players spawn. Try moving inland and away from the coast. Q: How do I use the bayonet I just found? Right now, that function hasn't been implemented, so it's just there to look pretty and open tins of beans (drag the bayonet onto the tin to open). I'll edit and update as new questions get asked/new useful threads pop up. -

Good job on making a tag that's too short for the forum search function to find properly, captain awesome. :p -
Knocked unconscious after two punches
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to Armonikills's topic in General Discussion
I think a couple of headshots with fists will probably KO you. Not 100% sure on that, as I haven't tested it, but I know for a fact that a headshot with a blunt weapon (that takes 10+ hits to the body to bring down a zombie) will one-hit kill a player, so a couple of punches to the noggin would probably be about right to knock you out. -
Hahaha, yeah, it's one of those amusing foibles you get sometimes. I think the reason is twofold - one, they probably do spawn slightly less than they should considering most households have one, and two, they're VERY easy to miss, particularly on dark/patterned floors - you've probably walked past three or four without ever noticing it. But yeah, believe it or not, they're actually more common now than they were before release - in my first week I didn't find ANY. Then I found three inside an hour. Prepare to find nothing but can openers for the next three days. :P

I blame the fact that blasted German made a FAQ without including any of the words that comprise the acronym FAQ! :D -

Bahahaha, how the hell did I miss this?! I even made sure to do a quick search before I started, just to avoid the inevitable irony. :D Oh well, I shall just sit here looking like a tit. :p -
Dean - Sort it out man. Losing your way
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to Thegoon84's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Ease up on the angry pills there brother. He has a different opinion to you, that is not a crime, and it's not worthy of telling him to STFU. Play nice. ;) -
Actually, you're the one that's being ignorant. At the moment, there is no way for privately hosted servers not to be on the main hive. That's what they're working on, and that's why the files aren't out there yet. As soon as they can make sure that private hives can actually run as private hives and not interact with the main hive, you'll be able to host your server and lock it and play all on your lonesome. I'm really not sure what part of that is causing you comprehension issues.

Yup, you've got an infection from a wound, I think. Disinfect a rag/bandage and apply. -

DayZ started life as an ARMA 2 mod. That's where it came from. A game with the scope of DayZ and what it's trying to achieve would likely be impossible in many other engines. There's a reason this is one of the first games of its kind. ;) I'm not sure why you're having graphics issues - I'm not getting any blurriness, and whilst I'd agree it's no Far Cry 3 or Crysis 3, saying it looks like a 2004 game seems over the top. As you said, I'm sure at some point a basic tutorial will be added, but that is a long, long, long way off yet. -
Practice in searching will make perfect (and save poor guys like me having to answer the same question ten times a day!) But yeah, to answer your question, if you and your donor have compatible blood types (you'll need two blood test kits to check this), a blood bag will refill your health and restore colour.

Yeah, AFAIK there's no danger of it going bad or anything like that. One way to find out, I guess. :P -

No, it's cool - if you don't know, where better to ask than the community forums? :) Yes, if the blood types are compatible, then that will cure your vision issue. However, you can't iv yourself - you have to get someone else to do it to you. -

Hehe, don't sweat the replies too much - sadly, over the past 48 hours, we've seen this complaint at least 20 times in a non-ironic/humorous version, so I think people are just on autopilot now. :p But yeah, come on guys, at least read the posts before you start with the OMFG IT ALPHA shit - OP was blatantly not being serious.

Potentially, yes. I think you can find saline bags in some hospitals, which don't require a 'donor'. :p But either way, you'll need someone else to administer them to you, so your best bet is finding a friendly player willing to do that for you. Good luck with that! :p
