Got killed by 4 guys who said they were friendly, what a joke...
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to Miza's topic in General Discussion
This. If you're the kind of person who will give up at the first sign of something not going the way you expected it to, DayZ is absolutely not the game for you. In the mod, I've lost multiple-week old characters because I opened a gate while standing in the wrong place and it broke both my legs and left me bleeding in about ten places, so crying foul when you made the mistake of trusting two players you'd never met in an area renowned for the high number of hostile players isn't going to wash, I'm afraid. You died because you trusted someone you shouldn't have. What did you learn? -
Security Vulnerabilities fixed by Patch #2 and Character wipe
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
To be fair, 'I knew this would happen, but I ignored that and find it annoying, please fix it' is neither a bug report nor particularly helpful feedback. The developers are obviously aware of the issue and are obviously working hard on fixing it - whilst 'it's an Alpha' is not the shield from all criticism that some think it is, complaining about a known issue because you lost a few hours' play is hardly going to earn you an awful lot of agreement. -
I think you have a point to a certain extent. No-one (or at least no-one sane) is advocating the complete abolition of KoS behaviour. It's a valid playstyle, and as you say, it adds a level of fear and paranoia to player interactions that wouldn't be there otherwise. I think the problem a lot of people have is that recently (and not just in the SA, where there are obvious reasons for it, Alpha, incomplete, yada yada - the mod had the same issue) it's been too dominant a playstyle - it's easy to play that way and have one or two heavily-armed players able to dominate a city on their own. The easy availability of ammo, the relative ease of health restoration, and the general lack of need to travel to do anything means that any player with a gun and enough cans of beans could pretty much kill tens of survivors on their own, and that's starting to get away from the point of a 'survival' game. Sure, there should be some threat from other players, but there's an upper limit past the point of which DayZ simply becomes a deathmatch. I do agree that just as there are too many players running round like rambo at the moment, there are also too many players who need to toughen up a bit and realise that this is a survival game, and that part of that survival involves avoiding hostile players. Just because you're running round in nothing but your pants doesn't somehow make you immune from bullets - you don't get a free pass just because you don't have a firearm. You still need to take just as much care when moving around as you would if you had top gear. Don't come crying on here when you get shot because you were running through Elektro with zero fucks given and someone decided to give you a 5.56mm lesson in how not to gear up.

Mr.KoS, You're not a bandit..Shtap it.
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to Craux's topic in General Discussion
This. We need to work on the distinction between bandit and a murderer. A bandit generally doesn't kill unless they have to (or it would be funnier to...), and a murderer doesn't have the panache and style that many bandits do. Whilst both playstyles have their niche in DayZ (albeit in moderation), it's important not to confuse the two. -
I *think* it's a bug, although I've not seen anything official one way or the other. Either way, enjoy it! The Novy Sobor spawn is probably my favourite spawn location, as it's nice and central - you can go anywhere without having to walk *too* far, plus there's fewer idiots running round with M4s blasting anything that moves.

Can my pc run dayz standalone
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to MrDiggyDwarf11's topic in New Player Discussion
http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/154395-can-i-run-dayz-retail-post-here/ It's the sticky thread at the top of the very forum you posted in. Please read before posting. ;) -
terribad frames per second and disconnects
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to Khatolic's topic in General Discussion
That seems like an issue that's specific to your machine rather than an overall optimisation issue, as I'm running not much better than that (i7-3770 and GTX 670) and going like a dream on max settings. I assume the stupid stuff like drivers and everything are up to date and that you're not running at 4k resolution across 12 monitors or anything unusual? -
Tents has been asked several times, so I'd try a forum search if you want an in-depth answer on that, but I would assume that there are more pressing matters that need adding first, particularly as character wipes etc are going to be fairly common. As for a fire selector, I'd imagine it'll almost certainly find its way in at some point - presumably once a few more weapons start coming in.

Some questions of mine
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to DinicalPower99's topic in New Player Discussion
I haven't been able to find a solid use for the defibrillator yet either - it's entirely possible it just hasn't got a use right now, and that it will come later as the medical system gets more complex. I don't think some barns are set up to spawn loot yet - I know the two-storey ones with the red roof definitely don't - the others I'm not 100% sure on. -
Sunglasses to dilute the Sun
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to victusmortuus's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'll be honest, I was a little surprised when they didn't do this - all the neat little tricks and features they've managed to sneak in, I'd have thought this one would be a dead cert. Still, I suppose they've been busy with other stuff. :p +1 though -
I think there's a bug that explains that part too - the weapon sounds are too quiet at the moment, in particular the Mosin - I've been stood 50m away from a friend and watched him nail a zombie in the head with a shot. Never heard a thing. I'm pretty sure it's something the devs are aware of, and I guess they'll get round to it when they get a moment. But yeah, my first thought when I was reading that was 'sniper'. If you take out the 'not hearing the gunshot' thing, which can be explained away as above, it would definitely make sense.

Did I tell you guys how awesome the Novy Sobor spawn is?
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to Gth's topic in General Discussion
Novy is absolutely one of my favourite spawns. It's fairly central, there's a couple of towns nearby where you'll have at least a reasonable chance of finding half-decent loot, and it's well away from the carnage on the coast (which sounds like it should be a WWE pay-per-view). I would actually like to see a lot more in the way of inland spawns - they spread the playerbase out a lot further, and particularly with so many new players entering the game at the moment, it'll give them a chance to explore the world and get a feel for the game without getting shot in the face every ten seconds. -
Not a terrible idea, although it might be difficult from a programming point of view (or not - I dunno), as it would cover all your existing stuff. Certainly an idea worth thinking about for the future, though. Have some beans. :)

Mentor for mature players
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to madmaxm's topic in New Player Discussion
As a 'mature player', personally, I'd rather play with someone who understands that age and mature behaviour are not necessarily related attributes, particularly on the internet, as well as someone who doesn't promote stereotypes about players under the age of 22. However, as other posters have said, it's this guy's thread, he can offer to teach whoever he wants. Live and let live. -
A list of small complaints/issues.
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to Etherimp's topic in General Discussion
Come on dude, no need to be a dick. Yes, we all know it's an Alpha, but that doesn't mean that people shouldn't give feedback. -
It's ACE RIMMER SURFING A CROCODILE. Why on earth would I want anything else?
-
Though Alpha, why no items on the map?
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to roguetrooper's topic in General Discussion
1. Get off the coast. You're searching a town that's been searched a hundred times already. 2. There's a known issue with the clarity of the hunger/thirst system, and it's being worked on. Once you're inland, you'll find plenty of food and water, so fill yourself up (until you get messages telling you so) and you'll be fine. 3. Flashlights don't work without batteries. That's why you have a battery in your inventory. ;) -
Surviving way too easy for veterans
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to DerrocK (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
My tactic so far has been to get as far inland as I can from the very second I spawn. Unless there's something that has obviously not been touched (closed doors, zombies in area), I won't stop to check anything until I'm at least 2km inland. Ideally I'll come across a well or pond early on so I can drink a whole bunch, but it's not essential - even with this tactic, you'll have an hour or more to find a drink of some kind, and once you're away from the coastal towns, loot's much easier to come by. -
Dean - Sort it out man. Losing your way
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to Thegoon84's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So you're judging the masks on the behaviour of one idiotic kid wearing one? :-/ I've seen plenty of folks wearing the masks who were perfectly helpful and friendly. Also, I'm not sure how you made the link that the payday masks are dragging in 'CoD kiddies' and then in the exact same sentence proclaim that they likely haven't even played the game. The masks didn't bother me, and still don't. A certain type of mask does no more to break my immersion than BEING CHASED BY A ZOMBIE does. If I come across another player, my first thought is not going to be 'oh, he's wearing X mask, now I just remembered this is all just a game', it's going to be 'how much of a threat is he, and where can I go to avoid him seeing me?'. -
Surviving way too easy for veterans
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to DerrocK (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
There's an awful lot of stuff that's on the way - and that's just the stuff we know about. I'm sure Rocket has got plenty of plans in store that he's not told us about yet, too. I don't think it's so much a case of 'too easy' to survive, because I could run and find an enormous stack of beans and water, run off deep into the woods on the North of the map and survive more or less indefinitely - the current problem is that there's not really enough to do to justify putting yourself in potentially dangerous situations by raiding towns/buildings to go looting. In DayZ, if you die, it's almost always because YOU made a mistake - whether it was not checking the roof of that building for a sniper or forgetting that pond water is probably not all that hygienic to drink, your survival is inextricably linked to your ability to consistently make good decisions, not what gear you have. Sure, gear can help you get out of a bad situation, but it's unlikely to stop you getting into one. For example, let's say that hypothetically the next update introduces vehicles (it won't, as far as I know - they're quite a way off, but it's an example) - you're fully geared up, but now you've got something else to shoot for. So you start exploring towns for a car. You find one, it's going to need repairs and new parts most likely, so there's more looting runs to be doing. The more times you take that risk of going into a new town, the more chance you've got of making that one costly mistake. Maybe that mistake doesn't kill you - maybe you get away with a few wounds but nothing serious - but now you need to make sure you're healthy and that you're going to get that wound infected. Do you have medical gear? Do you have the right medical gear? The health system is going to get much more complex in future updates. More potential risky trips into towns. Also, don't forget that zombies are very basic at the moment - in time, they'll increase dramatically in both number and behaviour. Then there's the 'nutrition' system that's planned. A man can't (or shouldn't, at least!) live on beans and soda alone, so you'll need to find different types of food and drink to keep a balanced diet. The amount and variety of loot will increase exponentially as well - don't forget that right now, there's only four guns in the whole game. I don't know exactly how many were in the mod, but I'd guess it's well over 50. Then you've got new clothes, items, tools... there's going to be a lot of decisions to be made over what you put in your backpack and what you have to leave behind... So yeah, it's a bit 'easy' right now, but it's only because at such an early stage of the game the incentives to take risks aren't there yet. When those get here, they'll make things a lot more interesting - crawling through a town full of zombies, you know there's a bandit out there hunting for you and that you should turn round and go back to camp, but you saw a car wheel here earlier, and you really need it... but one wrong move and BANG! You go right back to T-shirt and torch mode. :) -
do people actually want a complicated medical system?
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to dgeesio's topic in General Discussion
It's going to be a controversial one, because whether we like it or not, the folks who like to run round Cherno and Elektro blasting their guns aren't going to like any addition which makes it harder for them to be a lonewolf rambo. Look at the mod - blood bags and morphine were the two medical supplies for a long time, and a regular question was 'why can't I just blood bag myself?'. On a strictly personal note, I love the idea, and I love the fact that it's going to dissuade the less committed players. It's not going to deter dedicated 'true' bandit players who ambush and rob rather than charge and kill, because if they need a specific medical supply or procedure, they'll just procure it at gunpoint (or find a friendly medic player). Having said that, I'd agree with TerrorViktor when he says that 'complex' and 'complicated' need not be the same thing, and one thing I definitely want to see in place before we add any more medical issues is a robust and clear needs/moods/status system. I don't mind whether it's text-based, icon-based, moodlet-based or transmitted by electric shocks through my keyboard, but there needs to be some reliable way of knowing what's wrong with you, because at the moment, even with this 10% complete medical system, even experienced players are scratching their heads. -
'Can't torch this'
-
I can probably help with this. AT THE MOMENT, you have one character across all servers. That's because all servers are linked in something called the 'public hive'. In the near future, the devs will release the server files out to the community, and people can start hosting their own private servers which act independently to the rest of the hive. These are called 'private hives'. What you do on a private hive will be completely different to what you do anywhere else. If you're in Balota on a private hive, log out, join another server, walk to Berezino, then log back into the first one again, your character will still be in Balota with whatever gear they had at the time. This is probably the best solution to your problem - wait for the private hives to come along, then play on one of those with your friend. That way, anything you do anywhere else won't affect that character.

Knocked unconscious after two punches
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to Armonikills's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, I'll test that the next time I bump into Kichilron in-game. I use him as my own personal crash-test dummy. It's thanks to his paper-thin skull that I know how effective a surprise running wrench shot can be to players. :p
