If the Streamers want to broadcast their location, they'd have to be pretty damned stupid not to expect someone to use that information to find them. You want attention? Well congratulations, you got it - now you can deal with the consequences of that attention. To claim that this is equal to hacking is an absolutely ridiculous statement.

Could someone from the Dayz team please answer me this?
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to DannyFilming's topic in General Discussion
That statement is.... Actually, I don't even have words for that statement. Are you somehow trying to imply that it's the devs' fault that they got DDoSed? -

Target Practice (DayZ) replied to DannyFilming's topic in General Discussion
Well, obviously again I can't speak for the devs, so giving any indication either way is going to be nothing more than my personal opinion, which won't help you answer your question much. However, as I said, these are all issues that the devs are aware of and have said they're 'working on'. I seem to recall them saying somewhere that they have a plan for combat logging, but just haven't implemented it yet - to be honest, I would imagine that's very low priority right now. The lag issue over the past couple of days was a DDoS attack, I believe, and the 'rubberbanding' problem was just one of those bugs that pops up in patches sometimes (and I think they've more or less fixed already). Optimization is going to be an ongoing thing, and it'll improve slowly and gradually over time - we're not just going to wake up one morning and suddenly find that we're running 60FPS in Cherno. -
Could someone from the Dayz team please answer me this?
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to DannyFilming's topic in General Discussion
The sensible answer here is: When they get done. There's a lot of stuff to add to the game, and these are all known issues (and have been since closed testing). I'm not attacking you when I say this, but if they're really bugging you that much, perhaps you're better coming back in a few months when things are a little further along the road, because while I can't speak for the devs (and know even less about game development than you do), I imagine they'll probably want to get a stable build together and then start adding features - no point optimising a bunch of stuff and then adding in something else that's going to be horribly optimised. Might as well get it all in there and at least vaguely playable and then work on fixing it as a complete package. You know how it is with patches and adding stuff - every bug you fix creates four more. :p -
Played a couple of hours then died and i have to start back? Wow really? Wtf
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to frankspec's topic in New Player Discussion
I'm not sure it's as much 'not reading the disclaimer' as it is 'not knowing what the DayZ experience is all about'. -
Will the team start working on standalone now?
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to swaxxerjr's topic in New Player Discussion
The team haven't worked on the mod for some time, as they've been busy getting the Standalone to the state it's in. The mod's been worked on by volunteer developers such as R4z0R, and I'm not sure if there's much point in continuing to develop that. -
I Know it's Alpha... But the 3 Biggest Problems Right Now Are.
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to PabloFajita's topic in General Discussion
Another thread starting with 'I know it's Alpha but...' All three topics have been addressed at length, and the devs are aware and have measures in place to resolve all three going forwards. Starting a thread saying 'I know it's an Alpha but... [proceeds to complain/point out painfully obvious]' doesn't help anyone or anything, and just makes it harder to find the less well-reported problems players are having, because they get lost amongst the threads of people complaining about things that have been acknowledged and are to be expected in a very early Alpha. -
Sick of random restarts
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to thequantum's topic in New Player Discussion
Was there a part of 'Alpha' that confused you? Honestly, the number of people posting 'I know it's in Alpha but...' and then reporting their frustration at something that's to be expected in a very early Alpha is getting ridiculous. Saying 'I know it's an Alpha but...' does not make complaining about relatively minor bugs/imbalances any less crazy, folks. -
Cheating/Exploting Player Hopping Servers
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to feadern's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
As I understand it, the devs are aware of the glitch and have a fix in place - it'll be arriving soon. :) -
If I buy DayZ SA in it's current form, will I get the full game when released?
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to Grachasaurus's topic in New Player Discussion
Come on buddy, use the search function. This question's been answered at least ten times. -
This new patch guys ...... myaaah?
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to Xequinox90's topic in General Discussion
Yes, definitely the worst patch of the three patches we've had in less than 2 weeks including over Christmas. :-/ -
Rolling Update Rev. 0.30.113925
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to Hicks_206 (DayZ)'s topic in News & Announcements
Unreal. If I could slap you two via HTTP right now, I would. Seriously, it is freaking Christmas. These guys have families and so on, yet they've managed to get an update out to fix some of the bigger issues, yet apparently that isn't good enough?! And people wonder why gamers have a reputation for being whiny and entitled. Ugh. :emptycan:- 299 replies

Removing all loot, adding 3k+ zombies
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to Novalis's topic in General Discussion
Shortly before the Christmas break, I seem to remember we were doing some testing on a closed server for something or other and just for shits and giggles (and science!) Hicks decided to double the number of zombies. Seriously, it was a freaking nightmare. They spot you from miles away, when they aggro they seem to alert others around them, and you can't lose them in/around buildings because they'll just run right through them to get you. It took me nearly an hour to find an axe, because I couldn't loot anything due to the two-mile long conga line of pissed off zombies behind me. :p Whilst it sounds fun, it was actually kinda frustrating, as it didn't matter how cautious you were, they'd spot you anyway. -
Cant fire pistol
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to CyberVillain (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Yeah, check the condition of the weapon and magazine. That might have something to do with it. If not, it might just be a bug, try unloading the mag, disconnecting, then reconnecting and loading it again. -
It's being worked on. Also, just because you didn't hear the shot doesn't mean that it was a hacker that shot you - there's a bug where gunshot sounds aren't travelling as far as they should.

Suggestion: Consume ENTIRE item
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to GrumpyGat (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yeah, pretty much this. I think the delay between 'meals' is probably down to clunky placeholder animations as much as anything though - hopefully that'll get sorted sooner rather than later. :) -
Third person view removal from SA discussion
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to lev's topic in General Discussion
I think the existing plan is the correct one - have a 'hardcore' hive where you're locked to first person for those that want it, and leave 'Vanilla' DayZ players with the choice. Personally I dislike the first-person view - it doesn't feel 'right', and I find that DayZ's controls are unwieldy enough when I can see my character in relation to his surroundings, let alone when I can't. I also don't have the kind of peripheral vision I could reasonably expect to have, which when dealing with enemies that are going to be running up to me from all angles is a considerable disadvantage. It's also something as simple as I just quite like being able to see my character while I'm playing. I think it's a little of both - it's difficult to argue against the fact that a third person camera is going to at least have the potential to give users an unfair advantage, but there is also a valid counter-argument that says 'no-one is forcing you to use first-person only. It's a handicap you've chosen to give yourself, and it's unfair to criticise those who simply prefer that view.' -
+1 to the 'blissful ignorance' club here. Never heard of the guy before, no particular desire to ever hear of him again.

This. Generally, if you're logging out within 5 or so minutes of being involved in direct combat, that (to me) is combat logging. Those players could very well have been following you and you logged out to shake them. (I'm not saying that's what you did, but it's what some people would do) - just because someone doesn't actively have you in their crosshairs when you hit Alt+F4 doesn't make it not combat logging.

Do we get given the full version...
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to macisbetter's topic in New Player Discussion
Yes, you buy now, you get the full game on launch, as well as access to the Alpha and Beta. You could have done a quick search and found this out, as it's been asked at least 50 times since the Standalone launched. ;) -
There is a part of me that desperately wants to believe that Rocket spends at least eight hours a day searching these forums for the terms 'Rocket' and 'Dean'. :p
-
Hey man, don't be a dick. Just because he's struggling to deal with the zombies without any loot doesn't give you the right to make assumptions about his skill level and start calling him n00b. We should be welcoming people to the community and the forums, not acting like pricks towards them.
-
If you think there's too many zombies in right now, you're in for a really nasty surprise in a few months time when they fix zombies and actually get the real number they want in there. :p Also, yes, you're going to have a hard time finding loot on the coast, because that's where everyone else is spawning too, and they've already looted the area. Try going inland and searching some of the less well-travelled towns, you'll find a lot more loot.

Before I kill you I send you a text, but can you see it ?

I can't remember what the ranges are now - isn't direct ~20m or so? -
Punch KO, one punch and I'm down
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to blurhitz's topic in General Discussion
I don't get the confusion here. If I'm walking past you in the street and decide to catch you unawares with a right hook, as long as that shot connects, you're almost certainly going to hit the floor, regardless of whether it's a clean shot or not. Whilst it might not knock you cold instantly, it's almost certainly going to leave you in a vulnerable position, dazed and on the floor, which would allow me plenty of time to jump on you and finish you off with follow-up shots. Whilst we should logically assume that none of the player characters in DayZ are professional fighters, anyone who's ever watched more than a couple of MMA or boxing matches will know that true, one-punch KOs are rare, it's the first shot that knocks someone loopy that opens the door, then the hail of punches that follows does the actual damage. In DayZ, it's probably reasonable to assume that the capability isn't going to be there for a survivor to rain down punches on someone they've just felled, so they just cut the middleman out and work on the basis that if the first punch knocks you down, from that point, everything else is going to be a formality.
