How to downlaod and play
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to PremadeToast70's topic in New Player Discussion
I know what you mean, man. I spent half an hour last night shouting at my computer "play DayZ", and it didn't do shit. I'm gonna go ask for my money back. -
What the KOS whingers fail to realise
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to UNDERWORLD's topic in General Discussion
I'm not sure what mod you played, but zombies didn't change a damn thing. People were still running around Elektro with the AKS on full auto every single day - you'd still be shot in the face if you were unlucky enough to come within range of another player at the NWAF. Excessive KoS was nearly as much a problem towards the end of the mod as it is now. I'm not what you call a 'KoS whinger', even though I currently believe there's a little too much KoS going on - I still believe there's a place for KoS in DayZ, just maybe not quite as much as is going on right now. However, your statement simply isn't true, and the thought that something as simple as adding a few more is going to magically fix the problem just isn't feasible - there's a hell of a lot of contributing factors, of which this is just one small piece. -
The players of DayZ Ruin the game
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to notofthiswar's topic in General Discussion
The fact you use the word 'scrub' in a non-cleaning based context instantly makes any argument you have 50% less worth reading to more or less everyone. Act like an adult rather than an angry teenager who just got owned in Call of Duty, and maybe people will take you a little more seriously. As for the thread - I've said it a hundred times, but one more won't hurt: Yes, there's currently more KoS behaviour than is healthy in DayZ at the moment, although there are a lot of reasons for it, many of which will be addressed as the game progresses. However, there are currently bigger fish for the dev team to fry than game balance. The other issue at hand is the one that no-one talks about - the fact that a not inconsiderable number of players make the incredibly stupid assumption that because they're friendly, that somehow means that everyone else is also friendly. Just because you don't have any weapons doesn't make you somehow bulletproof, so maybe a good idea might be to NOT run round the streets of Elektro shouting 'friendly' at everyone you see. Any experienced player will tell you that 95% of the time, if you die in DayZ, it's because YOU made a mistake. Whether that mistake was walking through a known PvP hotspot like you're on your fucking holidays or something as innocent as drinking from the wrong water source without any antibiotics, it's very rare that you'll suffer a death that isn't of your own doing. Surviving isn't easy, but it's not supposed to be. Play smart, you'll live longer. -
1) Stop server hopping for loot. It's an incredibly lame tactic employed by bad players and it's completely against the spirit of DayZ. 2) I believe the spawn table was recently updated so that military loot is much rarer. So yep, those attachments are going to be harder to find. Welcome to the first step towards a more pleasant DayZ experience. :)

I clicked this thread hoping someone was suggesting they release DayZ for iPhone. 0/10, would not click again. :(

So I may jog on for a while....
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to bushwaka's topic in General Discussion
You'd be surprised how many experienced players share your feelings, OP. I've been struggling to motivate myself to play the game for some time, and the majority of it is that I simply don't enjoy interacting with 90% of the playerbase right now, and in a multiplayer game like DayZ, that does not make for a happy experience. Give it a few months for the hyperactive children to lose interest, and come back and check in. :) -
game unplayable after patching to the new version
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to Sweendawg's topic in Troubleshooting
My point still stands. It was made very clear from the outset that customisation on servers wasn't going to be available until a while after launch, so I'm not sure what your complaint is. The information was out there for you to find, you chose not to do that. I'm not suggesting it's not frustrating or annoying, I'm simply pointing out that the 'I'M PAYING MONEY BUT CAN'T DO WHAT I WANT WITH IT' argument is silly, because it was made clear that you wouldn't be able to do what you want with it (for a while at least) BEFORE you handed your money over. -

More fool you for spending 58 euros without doing adequate research. It's not exactly a secret that there are no private hives yet. Honestly, the internet would be a much less contentious place if people bothered to do a little research before spending money. -

Your definition of 'unplayable' confuses me. Use dat flashlight, champ. It's not there for decoration, you know. -
Had no idea I was in the wrong.
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to UnderWoods's topic in New Player Discussion
Yeah, for me that isn't 'true' server hopping. You were simply aware that you were inexperienced, aware that DayZ isn't exactly a welcoming environment for new players, and looked for a quiet place to get to grips with the fairly steep difficulty curve. A server hopper is a player who doesn't have the skill, guts or patience to actually go and loot buildings in populated servers, so instead jumps from quiet server to quiet server in order to get good gear, which he then (usually) uses to attack other players with once he's fully geared up and logs into a populated server. He's basically one step above the combat logger in the 'DayZ scumbags' list. You are not him, don't worry. :) -
Non-permadeath server option in the future?
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to minime1000's topic in Suggestions
Yeah, there is absolutely no way anything like this would ever ever ever be allowed as part of the main hive, for so many obvious reasons, so if it ever was made 'officially' possible (unlikely), it would definitely be limited to private hives only. -

Then the solution you're looking for is a private hive community, as someone's already pointed out to you in this thread. -
Non-permadeath server option in the future?
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to minime1000's topic in Suggestions
To take your argument to a somewhat illogical extreme, that's like me saying 'hey, DayZ would make a brilliant MOBA game - why not put that mode in? You wouldn't have to play it if you didn't like it - it wouldn't affect people who don't want to play it.' In situations like this, where a proposed change would make such a drastic change to the way the game feels and the players behave, it's not a case of 'well if you don't like it don't play it', it's a case of 'this is absolutely not what our game is' - if there's enough demand for something like this, someone out there will make a mod that does it, but it's not the place of the developers to enable things that make massive changes to the way the game plays just based on the whims of a very small percentage of the playerbase. Why bother? If I die, it's not going to matter even the slightest bit, because I'll just respawn with all/most of my gear. -
Yes, it's frustrating. Yes, it's been posted a thousand times before. Yes, saying 'it's an alpha but... [reporting something that's frustrating but known about]' doesn't help anyone. I do understand the frustration, but posting threads like this just make it harder to find the less well-reported issues, because they're buried under a hundred 'character reset' threads. If you know it's an Alpha, complaining about known issues is a bit odd. I'm not trying to be rude, and I accept that you're actually being pretty cool about it, but also try and understand the frustration this causes to folks who are getting kind of tired of saying 'it's an alpha, there are going to be bugs' fifteen times a day.

It's a big map. 30 people spread out over a map that size, and you're surprised you're not bumping into people every 30 seconds?! :-/

Non-permadeath server option in the future?
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to minime1000's topic in Suggestions
The issue people have is that the game you want here is not DayZ. As I said in my previous post, the tension and fear that go with the battle for survival are completely lost when you remove the penalty for death. Interacting with other players would lose the adrenaline rush and uncertainty, because even if they shoot you, you're not going to lose anything. DayZ at its very core is a survival experience. You want to take that out of the game, and turn DayZ into something it's not. It doesn't matter if it's squirrelled away on some private hive somewhere, what you would essentially be playing there is a mod of DayZ, because you have so utterly changed the core experience of the game that you can no longer really call it by its original name - exactly the same as the DayZ mod formed from ARMA 2. -
Non-permadeath server option in the future?
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to minime1000's topic in Suggestions
I can't ever see this happening, because permadeath is such a HUGE part of what DayZ is. Without that fear of death and having to start over from scratch again, you lose the 'survival' aspect of the game, which is pretty much what defines DayZ, even more so than the zombies. If I'm in the woods and not really paying attention to where I'm going and fall and break my leg, I want to have to make the decision between crawling for hours to try and find medical supplies in order to keep going or just giving up and starting again and having to gear up from scratch again. Permadeath is a defining aspect of the game - DayZ without permadeath isn't DayZ any more. -
Oh, my bad then - I knew that the pre-alpha test copies were given out via cd-keys, so I just figured that was the case.
-
Yes, I believe that DayZ still uses a CD-key system, even if you don't have the ability to view it through Steam. Sounds like that 'FPS booster' has nabbed it and someone's then bought it and got banned while using it. Whether Battleye are able to help or not, your friend is probably going to have to do a serious deep-clean on his system before he buys another copy/activates the new key. And be sure to have a strong word with him about being stupid enough to download something like that in the first place. That's the internet equivalent of taking candy from strangers, for crying out loud.

Suggestions for Alpha and Beta Dayz SA.
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to jpenk1990@msn.com's topic in Suggestions
Most of those suggestions were pretty solid ideas, but I dislike this one intensely, and have argued against it every time it's been suggested. Why? Because it's essentially useless. A) there's currently no 'stick to wall' mechanic, so such a thing can't really be done anyway without adding one, something which is going to offer next to no benefit, and likely be a lot of work. B) There's already a lean feature. C) It would be good for nothing more than burning ammo. At anything above point-blank range, your chances of hitting anything are about the same as your chances of finding the crew of the Mary Celeste partying with Elvis. Any sensible player is just going to stand there while you waste all your ammo and then walk in and shoot your freshly-out-of-ammo ass. D) The absolute last thing DayZ needs right now is 'more player to player combat interactions'. -

Blurry Vision after fighting
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to dayz1338's topic in New Player Discussion
Agree with Kichi here - I have to turn off postprocessing almost immediately, as the motion blur effect when turning makes me feel nauseous. Whilst I don't like disabling game features (especially if it makes it easier for me), right now it's the difference between being able to play and not being able to play.
