Consolidated Weapons/Equipment suggestions
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Copied and pasted from my post in the ACRE support thread, as it's relevant here also: -
Regarding Teamspeak - that's not something Rocket or the devs can control - if people want to use Teamspeak to effectively work as a team or just to talk bollocks to each other while they're playing a game, then they're going to do that no matter what you add in-game. However, Radios could potentially add a lot of flavour to the game for those players who aren't part of a regular team but are interested in working with others. It's difficult to deny the appeal of finding a battered radio as a lone player, scanning the airwaves and coming across a faint voice desperately asking if there's anyone near City X, as they've broken their leg and don't have any morphine. Particularly if side chat is removed from the SA, it'll be a way of sharing information across a wide area.

'Trust no-one' - is that really good advice?
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to Target Practice (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Nail on head. Communication and body language are two hugely important things in establishing contact with someone you've just met - it's a lot easier to justify shooting a mute avatar charging at you and pointing a gun at your face than it is to shoot a guy who's laid down behind a tree 30 or so metres away who's telling you that he's not hostile but that he's got his gun pointed at you just in case. -

But will they? Making one hell of an assumption, I'm going to assume that I'm a fairly typical survivor. I won't go out of my way to link up with people I don't know, but if we stumble across each other in the woods, I'm not going to shoot unless I'm pretty confident you're about to shoot first. If I wanted you dead, I'd shoot you the second I laid eyes on you - I wouldn't take the chance that while I'm waiting for you to turn your back, you might get suspicious and open fire first. I think there's also mitigating factors like what equipment someone's carrying and how tempting it might be to others. If I've got an M4CCO and Ghillie suit and bump into a guy with a Lee Enfield who wants to team up, you can be DAMN sure I won't be turning my back on him until I'm 100% confident he's not just looking to upgrade his gear from my twitching corpse. Likewise, if I'm visibly unarmed and run into a guy with an AS50 in a supermarket, I'm probably not going to be too worried - odds are, I'm simply not enough of a threat for him to worry about killing, as long as I don't get too close or try to take anything he's after. -

Why is everyone shooting on sight today?
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to ishootcats's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I actually went the other way today - was a fresh spawn, so figured I had nothing to lose by going to a Fire Station in Elektro. As I got there, saw a guy with an AK going in before me, so I announced on Direct Chat I was unarmed, just looking for early-game loot like maps and hatchets and was going to be coming in behind him. When I found an MP5 on the top floor, I offered it to him first out of politeness - he declined and simply asked that I didn't pick it up until he was out of the courtyard outside, which I complied with. So yeah. The last place I expected to find a reasonable and friendly survivor was the fire station in Elektro. Next I'll be finding friendly snipers on the NWAF! -
Limited Capacity Testing has begun.

Would there not be some kind of NDA issue there? I don't know for sure, but I know in the past when I've done a bit of closed beta-testing, I've had to agree to some serious non-disclosure terms. Guess it's down to the individual company, though. -
You, sir, have already got the hang of things. :P

Disscussion (hopefully an idea) about "non-regular" playing
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to thejarofflies@gmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Haha, you could probably hide a bike in an attic, although I'd pay good money to see someone trying to get it up and down the ladder! And yeah, that's quite a power nap - imagine the breakfast you're going to need after that one! I look forward to seeing you ideas - don't forget to not call those mothers afterwards! :P -
No. You are not squirming out of answering my question under the pretence that you're some kind of enlightened being who's trying to pass on his infinite knowledge and wisdom to a bunch of troglodytes who simply can't grasp the mere concept of what he's trying to say. I have been MORE than polite with you throughout this thread, and I have given you every chance to explain your reasoning without once being rude or aggressive, but I've had enough of your wriggling. Answer my damn question, man: Apart from to make the game easier, what is your reasoning behind wanting to re-add peripheral dots? If you're having trouble understanding the question, I can probably find another way of re-phrasing it, but in all honesty, I'm pretty sure that you simply realise that you've been backed into a corner and that you don't actually have an answer. The way I see it, you have a few options here. You can either: 1) Answer my question with a sensible, logical response (which is all I've wanted from you), and we can discuss this like mature, adult human beings. 2) Put your e-peen away and admit that you didn't really think the suggestion through and that maybe you were wrong. 3) Ignore this post/continue to try and give the impression that you're somehow above answering questions from us mere mortals and that we couldn't possibly comprehend what you're thinking anyway. Two of these options are perfectly fine responses, and you'll have my (and presumably most of the folks reading this) respect, and assuming a satisfactory conclusion is reached, we can just let this whole thing pass under the bridge and get on with other stuff. The other option will show you up as a blowhard who likes to talk the talk, but when push comes to shove can't actually back up any of his arguments. Ball's in your court, buddy.

Well, it's an open invitation, so by all means throw me an add on Steam - the more the merrier, as far as we're concerned - means it's more likely there'll be someone around when you want a game, I guess. :) -
No, I'm afraid your original post isn't clear enough to answer the specific question I asked you. However, I don't mind asking it one more time, as I'm sure you have an answer for me that will clear this up: What specific reason (other than to make the game easier) did you have for wanting peripheral dots re-enabled? That's all I'm asking you - I don't think it's an unreasonable question, and seeing that you have masses of experience in DayZ, I'm sure that your reasons are well-thought-out and perfectly valid. I'm simply interested in knowing what they are so that I might consider them myself and make an informed decision based on all available evidence. :)

This would support quite a lot of anecdotal evidence I've seen and read as well - the 'instant death bullet' where a guy gets shot once and immediately falls down dead is pretty much a TV/movie-perpetuated myth for anything short of a headshot or a 50 cal round - there's been a fair few instances of people (including police officers) shooting someone once and then being surprised when the victim returns fire several times before shock sets in.

Disscussion (hopefully an idea) about "non-regular" playing
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to thejarofflies@gmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The key difference for me is that goggles are something that can be put in a backpack. For the sake of a hypothetical argument, let's say when a player logs out and their character vanishes from the server, 'in character', they're just hiding themselves really well and going to sleep for however long it is until the player logs back in and they 'wake up'. Presumably, wherever that character goes, anything they're wearing or carrying will go with them. You can't do that with a car - you can't hide a car in an attic of an abandoned house or up in a tree or something like that - the best you can do is find a nice out-of-the-way spot somewhere and hope no-one finds it, which is the way it is, and pretty much the way it should be. -
I never said you called me an idiot. I said you were calling someone who disagreed with you an idiot, which undermines your position, as it's typically something people start to do when they run out of counter-arguments. Surely showing some kind of proof of why you believe he's wrong is a more effective counter than pointless name-calling?
-
...I thought that was kind of self-explanatory. I was wondering out loud whether it was even worth bothering continuing this discussion with you if you're just going to call people idiots because they say something you disagree with. I then asked you if you actually want to discuss the topic (in which case I'll stick around and do so civilly) or whether you want to just hurl insults at people with opposing views (in which case I'll just leave).
-
Direct chat generally works within a set radius (I seem to think it's 40m or so, but someone can probably confirm/deny this) - if someone's outside that radius, they won't see/hear what you've said. Don't forget to use the comma and full stop (period for US) keys to switch what channel you're in, as I think it defaults to the 'group' channel, which isn't used in DayZ.
-
No, please, indulge me. I'm genuinely not trolling or looking for a reaction - I really am honestly interested in what your reasoning behind re-adding peripheral dots is (beyond making it easier to see things you would normally miss), as I can't think of one myself. That's all I want from you. :)
-
You know, I was kind of wondering that myself, especially now you've resorted to calling people idiots because they're disagreeing with you. Do you want a discussion about this, or do you just want to throw insults around?
-
Wut. Anyway, internet pedantry on my part to one side, what exactly IS your logic behind wanting peripheral dots back besides making the game easier? Because I can't see any other reason for them, but maybe I'm just looking at it wrong.

Beat me to it.

How does being able to spot someone in a bush 250 metres away while running at full sprint have anything to do with weapon balance?
