Urban Dead - An example for a good Zombie MMO
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to BlakkM9's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Indeed - perhaps once DayZ develops more of a 'metagame', there's a possibility of things like UD's bounty hunter/rogue's gallery system coming into play - particularly notorious bandits end up listed on an external, privately-run website, and dedicated 'bounty hunter' players spend their time in-game tirelessly hunting them down and killing them. It's never been officially implemented in Urban Dead, but it's become a huge part of the game nonetheless. -
Urban Dead - An example for a good Zombie MMO

As an UD regular (been rolling with the Garniss Border Patrol in Scarletwood since 2008), I can categorically say that the only thing UD and DayZ have in common is zombies. And even then they're the 'dead' kind of zombies in UD, so even that's tenuous. There's not much DayZ can take from UD, simply because they're such massively, massively different games with different playstyles and objectives. That's not to say one is better than the other, but simply they just don't have anything in common. -
Pinkie Pie and 1-800-screw-your-day-up hack
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to mofober's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
How dare they hack on no-CD key servers?! That these horrible hackers are going out there and ruining the game for those poor hardworking scroungers who refuse to be tied down by things like actually paying for a game makes me feel sick to my stoma... Actually, no, I can't do it. Fuck hackers, and fuck the no-CD key brigade. They deserve each other. -
As long as I can put goggles (doggles?) on it, I don't care.

Looking for UK based clan
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to sirpukealot's topic in Clan / Group Recruitment
Hey Luke. There's a few of us who like to hit DayZ of an evening when the chance arises - we're not all always around, but there's usually at least one or two of us, so it's unlikely you'll struggle too much to find someone to play with. Age-wise, we're in your ballpark. We range from (I think) the youngest being about 20 and the oldest are 28. We're all relaxed guys (and gal) who know what we're doing, and we play DayZ for fun - someone accidentally bumping into someone else and breaking their leg is more likely to be met with amusement and snarky remarks than rage and finger-pointing. Anyway, I'm not sure how formal an arrangement you're looking for - we're nowhere near organised (or in most cases competent! :P) enough to be considered a 'clan', and there's no bullshit with 'orders' or how and when you play and that kind of thing. We're all just regular gamers who like having a few friendly faces to wander through the forest with when we get the chance. If you're interested, please feel free to give me a shout either via PM here, or better yet via Steam (Jason051984) and we can sort something out. I did try to add you on Steam, but the only return I got for that username was a German profile that didn't own ARMA II and hadn't been online in the past two months, so I assume that wasn't you! :P EDIT: Oh, I forgot - we're not 'UK based' as such, as at last count we have 1 Spaniard, 1 Belgian, 1 American, 1 Brit and a Yorkshirewoman, but we all tend to be around at least occasionally during 'peak' hours GMT (2000-0200), so I assume that fits what you're looking for. :) -
A non-modified vanilla Dayz updated whitelisted European server?
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to mitor's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Any server that had this would likely see a lot of play from me. -
Problem is, in all honesty, it's not even close to a fair or accurate simulation thereof - on servers where it's still enabled, I can be running at full sprint, only to catch sight of a large grey dot on the right of my screen - I'll turn and look, and after much searching, I'll spot a 'monkey' zombie just loping around about 200m away. It's allowing me to see things I would have otherwise never have seen if they'd been directly in front of me, let alone on the periphery of my vision. However, I appreciate your stepping up and providing at least some kind of justification for the feature - if only OP had done the same rather than just claiming he was 'done' and 'wasting his time'. :)

Landing the An-2 Biplane in Devil's Castle
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to kippz's topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
Now let's see you do that with a can of Mountain Dew in your backpack... Seriously though, nice flying. I probably couldn't land a Heli in there, so colour me jealous. -
Where else can you ride a goat?
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to sgttrojan's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Well, it used to be the local petting zoo, but they don't let me go there any more. :( -
I can see it now...

I have a theory behind the strange behaviour exhibited on Chernarus recently. Zombie wizards. ^ Actual in-game screenshot. Think about it - how else are these zombies walking through walls, zig-zagging at speeds that would make Albert Einstein's nose bleed and making your weapons vanish when you try to put them in your backpack? It's zombie wizards, I tell you.
-
I have no problem with their speed - the only issue that really bugs me is that occasionally you get one that seems to glitch and stay stuck RIGHT behind you no matter what you do - I've watched over my shoulder as they 'rubberband' from about 10-15m behind to 5m behind in the space of about a second. I'm all for the game being challenging, and I CERTAINLY don't want to see zombies nerfed, they're barely a threat as it is, but I would at least like things to be fair.

'Trust no-one' - is that really good advice?
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to Target Practice (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Whilst an amusing story, that's not really anything to do with trusting folks you've just met - it's more about the merits of playing it slow and safe vs going full retard and thinking that more weapons will save you. Still, can imagine it was great fun to watch. :D You are of course correct when you say that you don't have to team up to succeed in DayZ - most of my characters are lone wolves too. It just seems silly to me that the first thing we tell anyone who asks is 'don't trust anyone', when in reality, most folks are unlikely to shoot unless they feel threatened or provoked, and therefore we end up in a self-perpetuating cycle of paranoid players who automatically assume that everyone is trying to kill them. -

Dumb ways that you have died?
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to fwisky's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I was once indirectly killed by a hog/boar. I hadn't been playing long, and I was crawling through a fairly infested village to get to a barn. Suddenly I noticed movement to my right and saw a large boar heading right for me. At this point, I had no idea if it was dangerous or not, but as I knew boars are nasty bastards in real life and this one seemed to be heading directly at me, I didn't want to take the chance, so I got up and ran like hell, attracting a shit-ton of aggro and eventually getting caught and beaten into a fine paste. -

Sounds like you walked into a zombie trap. They're sneaky like that - they put 3p1c L00t on the ground for people to find and then hide in nearby buildings and bushes waiting for a victim. Also, you know the walking through walls trick? Actually the work of zombie wizards. -
'Trust no-one' - is that really good advice?
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to Target Practice (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah, that's kinda what I'm getting at - I found myself giving that advice in another thread, then a short while afterwards I stopped and actually thought about my own experiences and how they didn't really merit such a draconian response. I'm wondering if it's simply something we're all saying simply because it's the de facto norm to do so, whereas the reality is actually a little less dramatic than it's made out to be. -
Is this rig good enough for ArmA II? or BF3?
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to privatewolf's topic in Technology/Programming
Sorry, my bad - the 560 is actually a little better than the 7770. Wasn't paying attention. :) -

Whilst I agree with a lot of what you're saying, I do think that approaching the game with that mindset removes some of the beauty of DayZ - that unpredictable 'human' element you get when you throw a living, thinking (well, most of the time, anyway), breathing person into the midst of your adventure. They'll say and do things that will utterly change the way your character progresses, and you'll experience things you've probably not come across in a game before. If you just go it alone, or go with someone who you know and work well with, you'll potentially be cutting out a huge part of the experience of what is a multiplayer game. Can't even begin to tell you how much I disagree with that! -

More RAM won't make any difference to your GPU's output. I'd certainly look at getting a better card than the one you have unless you want to be replacing it inside a year. AMD cards are generally pretty good value for money at the lower end of things - you can get a 7850 for around the $150-175 mark, and that would probably last you a good 2 years at least. EDITED - because I'm an idiot. :) -
DayZ - Really low fps. Help?
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to heath1056's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Indeed. If you're absolutely insistent on playing Taviana, then perhaps you're going to have to lower your settings a notch or two and try to stay out of Sabina unless you really have to. DayZ is in Alpha, and Taviana is an unofficial map, so that's pretty much a worst-case scenario as far as optimisation is concerned, so there might not be an awful lot you can do beyond lowering your settings. -

Target Practice (DayZ) replied to heath1056's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I'm running a 2GB GTX 670, 8GB RAM and an i7 processor, and certain parts of Taviana make my rig pretty unhappy as well, so I think it's a fairly universal thing. :) -
Looking for people to play with! Like a group/team. Very experienced.

Dumb ways that you have died?
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to fwisky's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Had a terrible spawn way out in the middle of nowhere, compounded by the fact I had a complete brainfart and ended up running the wrong way for five minutes before realising. Anyway, as I wasn't too concerned about dying, I was simply running down the middle of the road. In the distance, I spotted a vehicle. Figuring it was worth a shot, I waited until it was about 200m away and began to salute while hailing them on Direct comms. As far as I know, my corpse is still going up. They must have hit me at about 120mph.
