Disconnecting While Unconscious Shouldn't Kill You!
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to t1337dude's topic in General Discussion
I agree with what you're trying to say, OP, but the fact remains, it's far more likely to be abused by cowards taking fire, finding some temporary cover, quickly bandaging any of their buddies that are unconscious and then hitting alt-f4 than the current system is going to cut off genuine players who are victims of a random crash (I'm sorry, but I don't believe that people who rarely experience crashes are in the minority - if you look after your computer, there's no reason it should randomly crash/restart without warning barring some kind of serious issue). If you've had this happen to you twice in 70 hours of play, you are either desperately unlucky or you are a terrible player, because you would have to spend a ridiculous amount of time being knocked unconscious. :p But yeah, my point is, whilst it's a noble thought, it's too open to exploitation by cowards. -
Disconnecting While Unconscious Shouldn't Kill You!
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to t1337dude's topic in General Discussion
If you have a poor internet connection or a computer that crashes frequently, that is not the fault of the developers and/or the other players. Sort your own stuff out that end, because the developers have enough to do without having to work around a pretty small minority of people who for whatever reason are unable to sustain a stable internet connection/computer. Generally, for all the other pluses and minuses of the Alpha, the executable itself has generally been pretty stable without a tremendous amount of crashing. That only leaves server crashes and restarts, which aren't tremendously common, and you'd have to be pretty unlucky to have one hit the very moment you went unconscious. But shit happens sometimes, and if that's the worst thing that happens to you in any given week, then you're doing okay by my reckoning. Simply put, the potential for abuse is way too high for the tiny number of legitimate situations that this could help. There are way bigger fish to fry right now. -
Yeah, to be honest, you probably wouldn't need to bind much - 'stop right there' 'yes' 'no' 'don't shoot' and something along the lines of 'please wait, I'm mute and I have to type'. I'm sure you'd be able to find someone who'd record those soundbites for you. :)

Yeah, like others have said, it's going to be a challenge, and there are going to be times when it's a disadvantage, but it's by no means impossible. There are tons of groups out there who would happily have you on board. I'd offer to join you myself, but I'm honestly not really playing an awful lot of DayZ at the moment, so I wouldn't want to accidentally give the impression I was avoiding you! :p But you don't even necessarily have to join a clan or anything that formal - there's no reason you can't just put a post up in the 'recruitment' forum explaining your situation and saying that you're looking for a bunch of people to play with who don't kill on sight. That's what I did when I first started playing, and I've met a couple of really good friends that way, who I've moved onto playing a wide variety of games with. Believe it or not, there ARE good people who play DayZ, they're just hard to find in amongst all the assholes. :p

Tired of being pushed around? I can help!
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to Kalibyr's topic in General Discussion
Right, so I'm going to assume that was a response to my question, which was 'Will you ever ask for any kind of material reward in return for your 'services'?' The very fact that you have once again attempted to clumsily dodge the question leads me to believe that not only will you do so, that it is likely the primary reason for you offering the services. If you truly had no intention of ever asking for any kind of reward, you'd be able to easily answer that question in the negative. Instead, you tried to hide (unsuccessfully, I might add) behind hyperbole. As several others have pointed out, what you are doing is against the forum rules, and I've reported the thread accordingly. I'd recommend that anyone considering this 'offer' think very carefully about whether you want to do business with someone who is apparently so allergic to the straight truth. -

Target Practice (DayZ) replied to Kalibyr's topic in General Discussion
Sorry, looks like this post was a victim of 'new page syndrome', so I guess OP missed it. A concrete answer to this question (IE: 'yes, I may ask for some kind of material reward' or 'no, I will never ever ask for any kind of material reward') would pretty much clear the whole thing up. -
Tired of being pushed around? I can help!
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to Kalibyr's topic in General Discussion
So, you can unequivocally say that under no circumstances would you ask anyone who wanted your help for anything material (be it money, games or other non DayZ-related stuff) in return for your 'services'? -
Tired of being pushed around? I can help!
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to Kalibyr's topic in General Discussion
This could all be cleared up if OP was a little less cryptic and explained exactly what it is he wants in return for these 'services'. Unless I missed it, whilst OP was quick to accuse others of assuming that he would be asking for money, it doesn't look like he's outright said that he wouldn't ask for money. At the very least, he is being deliberately vague and evasive, and that's enough to make me wonder exactly how legit this is. Ball's in your court, OP - you can clear this up very easily, just by telling us what you're doing this for in public, rather than by email. -
Accusations of CQF DDOS attacks
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to coltonlong's topic in General Discussion
Pssst. No-one cares. No, seriously. No-one cares. This is an internet drama between two groups 90% of people here have never heard of. It doesn't need god only knows how many threads about it. If people were really interested, they'd go check out your website or something, but all you and this guy are doing is perpetuating some petty game of tit-for-tat and using these forums as a medium for it, causing more work for the already overworked staff, and more shit to trawl through for the community. Neither of those things is going to enhance your community's reputation. -

Wow. Calm down there, Captain Hostile. They're just making a suggestion - no need to get all 'sandy vajayjay' on them. -
Disable leg break.
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
Yup - Mercules has nailed it here. How do you think they're going to iron out the bugs if they have no way of finding them? When people start reporting the glitches that are breaking their legs, the devs can start fixing them. It doesn't matter if it's now or six months down the line, those bugs are going to have to be dealt with at some point! -

'Your mom' jokes? What is this, 1996? Jesus dude, next it'll be TV dinners, mother-in-law gags and MC Hammer references. Get some new material. -

Actually, the proper procedure for if you have a problem with a moderator's decision is to take it to a 'green' member of Staff. Or you could just create a useless thread crying about how those mean moderators are always stopping your fun. That'll work too. -

Yep, welcome to permadeath. If you die for any reason, that's it, you're back to the start with a bandage and a torch. There are no teams or factions besides those you make yourself (either with your friends or those you encounter). The way people manage it is generally by being exceptionally careful, particularly in and around the spawning areas, because it's where a lot of the lazy deathmatchers run round looking for people to shoot. Get yourself away from the coast as fast as possible, and look to gear up in the smaller towns and villages inland. Be careful and plan your moves and routes before you make them. Don't just blithely go charging up to people and making the mistake of assuming that because you're friendly, they are too. It's safe to assume that the majority of players will shoot you on sight, either because that's the only way they know how to play, because they want to be SUPER COOL like all those streamers they watch, or because they're working on the (not unreliable) assumption that if they shoot you first, they don't have to worry about you shooting them later. It's a dog eat dog world in DayZ, so play smart and you'll live a lot longer.

He's not being an asshole, he's perfectly right. You paid for early access to a game that is a long, long way from completion. You were warned many, many times about that. Yet apparently that still didn't prevent you from coming on here and crying your eyes out because parts of the game are incomplete. Posting a ranty, crying thread on the forums and calling those that explain the situation to you 'assholes' does nothing to resolve the situation other than annoy your fellow community members - if this is the height of what you have to contribute to DayZ and the community, I'd rather you didn't bother. You want to spend time registering on these forums, arguing with people and bitching and whinging in this thread about bugs, but spending 30 seconds registering on the bug tracker to help report and log the occasions when it's happening is a waste of your oh-so-valuable time? Solid logic right there.

35-50 fps on my system and hardcore lags!?anyone have same issue´s
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to survivor85's topic in General Discussion
I'm running an i7-3770, a GTX 670 and 8GB RAM, and I'm getting about 40-50FPS at best. To be honest, I'm just chalking it up to 'Alpha, will be optimised later'. ARMA games have always been pretty iffy performance-wise - they'll work fine on some machines, then run like a dog on ostensibly much better machines. -

Is there a sequel with the funny bit coming? -
I'd argue the opposite - it teaches them that they should automatically shoot first and ask questions later, meaning that if you happen to bump into them when they're geared up, they're much more likely to blow you away rather than just let you be (or even offer help). Of course, having said that, the idiots that will run up to a fully geared player with their fists raised? Man, shoot those guys all day long, because you know what kind of player they're going to be once they get a gun in their hands. :p
-
I think you're right - or at least partially right. There are a lot of other factors to it as well. Sadly, no-one wants to listen to reasoned debate and hypothesis on here at the moment - they'd all much rather cry about how the nasty mean people keep shooting them even when they ask them not to, or brag about how elite their skills are because they shot twelve unarmed players in the face in ten minutes the other day. Welcome to a popular game community on the interwebz. :(

Yet another player who doesn't understand that just because you're friendly doesn't mean that the other guy is. It also makes me wonder about the kind of mind that is shot time and time and time again by players he encounters, yet still runs up to them like he just don't give a fuck, desperate to say hello, then comes on here and complains when he's shot again. DayZ is a survival game, and that means that you have to adapt your tactics in order to survive. Keep getting shot by players? Hey, here's a thought - why not avoid players or stay out of sight until you can be sure whether they're friendly or not? Believe it or not, I actually agree with some of OP's points - there are WAY too many assholes and KoS players in DayZ right now, and it's having a negative effect on the experience for many players, but there's also a limit to how much blame I'm willing to lay at the feet of the community and how much blame I'm going to put on the player for doing dumb stuff.

so i had a blast so far but this is killing my fun
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to brumey's topic in General Discussion
Whilst I admire your willingness to fight a lost cause, the sad fact is, the vast majority of people who are logging in and out at airfields are almost certainly going to be server hoppers. Yes, there's a small likelihood that it's just an unfortunate player who happened to get forcibly disconnected whilst in one of the biggest loot hotspots on the map, but honestly? You're trying to make it sound like that's something that happens all the time. I'm not a KoS player, I will only shoot first when I personally feel that there's a reasonable chance of the other guy being hostile. In OP's situation, I would absolutely shoot anyone logging in at an airfield, because the ratio of legitimate logins to server hoppers is so low that it's not worth taking the risk. -
Simple question about the early access
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to Jochendude's topic in New Player Discussion
I apologise to a certain extent for my exasperated reaction, however, it actually takes less time for all concerned had the OP done the sensible thing and actually searched the forums for the answer to his question. The annoyance is, threads like this one asking a question that's been asked a million times before clog up the forums and cause more important discussions that can actually help the game move forwards to fall off the front page. Whilst I once again apologise for my response, particularly as I usually pride myself on being welcoming to new users, courtesy is a two-way street, and new users should also extend that courtesy to the rest of the forum by at least doing even a cursory search for the information they're looking for before posting. Now let's just let this thread die - by replying to it, we're just bumping it back up the forums again and pushing legitimate discussion back down. -
Simple question about the early access
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to Jochendude's topic in New Player Discussion
Oh for the love of... Do a search before posting. The question is not only answered on the Steam page itself, there's been about a hundred threads with people asking the exact same thing. YES. YOU GET THE FULL GAME.
